The above WikiProject tag was added by one editor and removed by another. It's reasonable to guess that the remover was concerned either that non-Arabic names are in fact included, or that they not be; what the adder had in mind is not as clear.

In fact, the tag

  1. is appropriate
  2. does not by its presence imply the exclusion of non-Arabic instances of the name "Reza"

Although the name "REZA" is currently known as an Arabic name, there are some evidences proving that this name is originated way long before is was used by Muslims. According to the fact that "REZA" is mostly popular in Iran rather that other Mulsim countries, and besides there are few small cities around central europe named "REZA" (With different spell), which are all somehow related to Hebrews, it's suspicious that the word "REZA" has Hebrew roots. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.15.29.81 (talk) 23:38, 25 July 2007

Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew, Czech, and/or other

[edit]

Several people have been removed, perhaps on the basis that the remover decided that altho they bear the name Reza, it is not the Arabic name Reza that they bear.
In theory, there is nothing wrong with an appropriately named page limited to people with the Arabic name. Aside from an appropriate title, such a page would need to specify a meaning for "with the Arabic name", "with the Islamic name", or its substitute for that phrase. Then every name placed on the page would be removable if it lacked a reference (meeting the usual standards) establishing that that person's use of "Reza" met that standard for recognizing the Arabic name, or that they were given it by a Muslim parent or took it after conversion, etc. In the absence of such a criterion (and, common sense will dictate, until there is a consensus on it being the right criterion) removal of names other than for non-notability cannot be tolerated. In the meantime the meaning of "Reza (name)" is the obvious one, and the self-contradictory lead paragraph is no justification for removing anyone whose name is spelled "Reza".
IMO, the standard of notability is lower, for inclusion on the accompanying page, than for having a bio article: probably anyone mentioned in WP is sufficiently notable, and removal of names on Reza (name), if not accompanied by mention of their names in the edit summary or in a contrib on this talk page, should IMO be treated as sufficient cause for restoration -- except of course in cases where its addition was fresh, or unquestionable, vandalism.
