Notes
[edit]The footnotes need a cite to "-- Plymouth Colony leader Edward Winslow, 1621", or at least a mention of this letter as the source of many of the features of the traditional celebration. (Since it does cite Bradford, who is quoted on only one item.)

[edit]Is this the discussion section? customary to bring gifts or other form of reciprocity? Pueywei 03:11, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- That varies greatly from place to place and culture to culture. --Carnildo 10:19, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
What are soda cans and plastic water bottles doing on the table?
I really like the linked "very similar meal"; kudos to whoever put that one in. RSido 04:05, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

- Potatoes are definitely not native to North America, in fact, until Europeans discovered them and spread them around the globe they were completely unknown outside of the greater Andean region. This is a sign that this article needs some serious work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.20.24.121 (talk) 16:17, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Things to do.
[edit]- Merge this with the main Thanksgiving article. Neither is particularly long and it seems absurd to treat the dinner separately from the holiday itself.
- Citations. I removed a few things that were just incorrect in my experience, like alcoholic beverages not being a traditional part of Thanksgiving. Also, if you're going to assert that it is almost universally frowned upon for those under twenty one to drink at Thanksgiving in the US, you need to find some statistic to back it up. In my experience Thanksgiving is one of the few days of the year where families that normally discourage such things are generally okay with their older teenagers drinking beer or wine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.20.24.121 (talk) 16:33, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
And how about fixing this wretched sentence:
"In more recent years it is also true that as the wild population of turkeys has rebounded in most of the US, some will hunt and dress their turkey in the woods and then freeze it until meal preparation." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.183.177.184 (talk) 15:37, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Could some run a test on this article to determine if there exists any more ambiguous links?76.170.88.72 (talk) 04:14, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
Seems to me there should be a "desserts" section listing at least pumpkin and pecan pies. Truddick (talk) 18:16, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
Ham wars
[edit]I've noticed an edit storm of adding and removing ham. What's the issue? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Safety Cap (talk • contribs) 21:45, 24 November 2010 (UTC) Thanksgiving is all about geting together. It is all about thew love we share.
First Thanksgiving
[edit]I removed a poorly-sourced paragraph discussing what was served at the first thanksgiving. In reality, there is considerable debate and competing claims about when and where the celebration was first held - see the citations at Thanksgiving. Notably, most of the well-attested claims predate the 1621 one used here (which is actually one of the most weakly-attested, made worse by the fact that there are clear references to the holiday that predate it.) Possibly the paragraph could be replaced, but it would have to basically be written from scratch given how dubious the previous one was. --Aquillion (talk) 13:17, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Complete rewrite and sourcing done
[edit]The article has been completely reviewed and citations added throughout. The early section on the Pilgrims and what could be described as the "myth" of the Pilgrims' first Thanksgiving dinner is limited intentionally to a discussion of Thanksgiving food, not to when or where a "first Thanksgiving" occurred. Further improvement is welcome; the article could use good-quality photographs of mashed potatoes, southern cornbread dressing, yam or sweet potato dishes, and regional specialties. The sections on vegan and vegetarian options could be expanded. iMary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 21:54, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
