Assessment/Assessment

Welcome to WikiProject Earthquakes, a collaboration area and group of editors dedicated to improving the coverage of earthquake-related articles. This WikiProject aims to enhance information on earthquakes, aftershocks, seismology, seismologists, tectonic plates, and related articles. For more information on WikiProjects in general, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and the Guide to WikiProjects.

Scope

[edit]

Please feel free to join the project and expand its scope in any necessary directions.

[edit]

Departments

[edit]

Review

[edit]

The review department of the Earthquakes WikiProject is the project's main forum for conducting detailed reviews—both formal and informal—of particular articles and other content within its scope.

Assessment

[edit]

In order to easily identify articles in need of attention, the assessment department have been implemented. These are generated using the optional class and importance parameters in the {{WP Earthquakes}} project banner on an article's talk page:

Add articles to the scope by adding {{WikiProject Earthquakes|class=|importance=}} and fill in the parameters.

Portal

[edit]

The portal department attempts to serve as a nexus for all Earthquakes-related Wikipedia materials.

Below are listed the highest article content ratings for WikiProject Earthquakes articles. Featured content, the highest rating, is considered brilliant and results from much toil.

RyRy (talk · contribs) Mostly baseball. But for earthquake related things, mostly earthquakes that have a lot of history to them. I mostly would like to create new earthquake related articles, and then nominate them for WP:DYK at Template talk:DYK. If you need any earthquake that you think has a lot of history to it, ask me to create it. Or of you want me to review an article for DYK, you may ask me also.
Haha169 (talk · contribs) 2008 Sichuan earthquake and working on writing/saving 2008 Chino Hills earthquake. Although I'm not a contributor to any other quake articles, feel free to ask me to leave a peer review or other "PR" type things, and I'll be happy to do so. Nominated 2008 Sichuan earthquake at WP:GAN, successfully promoted and became the fourth Earthquake GA.

Webecoolalasdair (talk · contribs) A university student in the United States pursuing a degree in geology and ultimately seismology. At the moment, I am not as active as I would like to be due to school, but am as much as I can be. I have always had a passion for the earth sciences and will do my best to contribute as much as possibleAt the very least, I intend to study earthquakes as a professional. I wish to improve upon existing earthquake articles, as well as make articles for historical earthquakes that are notable, have been overlooked by the rest of Wikipedia. These events are usually moderately sized, between magnitude 4 and 7, and may or may not be historical. These events are more likely to be forgotten about by most, but are of high importance, especially if they occurred in uncommon places, are significant to the epicentral region or the scientific community, or had some kind of significant effect distinguishing them from most other run-of-the-mill earthquakes.
GyozaDumpling (talk · contribs) I like seismology and geophysics. I edit all around Wikipedia but in the past year, my main focus has been earthquake articles.
Dora the Axe-plorer (talk · contribs) I joined the project after noticing some notable historical earthqakes didn't have their own article. I attempt to have all notable earthquakes in the NGDC database be covered. I don't have any experience studying earthquakes and their related subjects but reading scientific publications has really expanded my knowledge on them. Here's the list of my started articles.

FreeWikiFrog (talk · contribs) Interested in learning about earthquakes, loves all weather. Updating earthquake articles.
Moctiwiki (talk · contribs) I have been interested in seismological activity for quite some time since I myself have lived through them, notably the 2013 Bohol earthquake as well as the 2012 Negros earthquake. Articles created and to be created can be seen in my userpage. (Moctiwiki (talk · contribs))
Reego41 (talk · contribs) A seismology geek, interested in earthquakes since I was 8, really got my interest when I first heard about the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Have also gone through the 2020 Aegean Sea earthquake. Normally updating earthquake pages, but right now kind of inactive. Looking forward to later create some pages to contribute to the community.
Dwianto08 (talk · contribs) Interested in earthquake since i was 7, lived through the 2009 West Java earthquake. My interest continue when i heard news about two major event in 2018 which struck Lombok and Sulawesi. Updating earthquake pages, and sometimes create new pages historical event.
SamBroGaming (talk · contribs) Interested in earthquakes since I was young, lived through the 2010 Baja California earthquake. The 2019 Ridgecrest earthquakes reminded me about earthquakes, and I've been really interested since. Creating and expanding earthquake articles.
Quake1234 (talk · contribs) An autistic guy from Wales who's been interested in earthquakes since 2020. My most notable pages I created are the 2022 Taitung earthquakes and the List of earthquakes in 2023. I have created 40 main pages on Wikipedia and growing. Frequently editing, most likely between 10:00 and 01:00 UK time.
Borgenland (talk · contribs) Used to buy dollhouses as a boy only to test earthquake intensities. Got into the hang of editing earthquakes after the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquakes. I mostly focus on impacts and aftermath. Will hound earthquake pages for a month on my watchlist, but will continue editing if new info comes out.
TheNuggeteer (talk · contribs) Interested in all types of disasters, especially earthquakes. I will focus mostly on the article creating side.
Scoria. (talk · contribs) Interested in geological and meteorological hazards mostly in the Philippines
Panamitsu (talk · contribs) Interested in New Zealand earthquakes. I'm not that interested in seismology, but instead the effects and damage caused by the earthquakes, and emergency management.
