Heretic is an Indian Alternative Metal band from Kochi, India, formed in 2005. The band consists of Akhil Unnikrishnan (Vocals), Abhijit Namboothiripad (guitar), Hareesh Kumar (guitar), Kevin Paul Prichard (drums and percussion) and Benjamin Thomas (bass guitar). In recent years, Heretic has emerged as one of the most sought after bands from the bustling metal scene in South India, winning multiple competitions and performing alongside mainstream bands like Motherjane and Thermal and a Quarter.
History
[edit]Heretic is named after the eponymous mythical Greek character, who was burnt alive for voicing his opinion. The band says on their profile, that Heretic believes in speaking out fearlessly and thinking out of the box, and is unafraid to voice their opinion and stand their ground.
Heretic is a five piece Metalcore band, rated among the best bands from Kerala. Apart from being the runners-up at the prestigious Kingfisher Kerala Rocks Competition' 06-07,they were shortlisted among seven bands from all over India to play at the June Rock Out'07 festival at Bangalore.
Their next appearance was at The Great Indian October Fest'07 at Bangaloreplaying alongside famous bands such as Motherjane and Thermal and a Quarter. Other gigs include Yamaha RoXX, a rock show by Yamaha motors at Cochin University. In The 07-08 edition of Kingfisher Kerala Rocks, Heretic emerged as the Best Kerala Band and overall Second in the festival comprising of 42 bands. Reprised (2008-2011)
[edit]In early 2008, Heretic released a three track EP entitled “Reprised” for free internet downloads. The tracks included in the EP were Reprised, Bleed to heal and Slaves and the System. The band is now in the studio, recording their debut full length album titled “Ring of Colours”. The album is expected to be released in early 2012.
