If you have a minute can you please see if you're willing to action this request. Thanks, - FlightTime (open channel) 00:04, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

FlightTime - Yep, I'll take a look at it right now - stand by. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:05, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
FlightTime - Copying what I said in your protection request: This isn't a situation where we should protect the article in order to address the underlying problems. We need to talk to the user about their edits and work with them so that they stop. If the user doesn't stop after being repeatedly asked to, we can take action for repeated disruptive editing. Protecting the article due to substandard but good faith edits by only one person isn't proper use of the tool here. Do you need my help with talking to the user and working with them to improve? Let me know if I missed something or if there's more to this that I should know :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:12, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

How do I make my statement more neutral, it is a given that cold tolerance would give skewed results since the tested groups innately have differing ability in circulation as well has the variances in muscle and fat build within age groups. The fact that the referenced articles only include cold pressure pain but not include electrical stimulation testing, pressure stimulation and ultraviolet inflammation testing only confirms this. But how do I write this in a way that is neutral, since clearly I am a bit biased on this matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zorkmcspork (talkcontribs) 02:31, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Zorkmcspork! Regarding your edit here to Pain tolerance, your edit was reverted because you added what seemed to be an opinionated comparison between the different methods available to relieve pain. I would go through, read, and make sure that you understand Wikiepdia's neutral point of view policy and what kinds of inadvertent things that cause non-neutral content to be added. In your case, I would avoid stating that one method is better than another and stick only adding facts and content that's stated in the reliable sources that I'm sure you located and will be citing ;-). If you have any more questions or concerns, let me know and I'll be happy to help you further. I hope my response has pointed you in the right direction and I wish you happy editing :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:12, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Odessa and Music

Hello. As I was reading your page on Odessa (Ukraine) I noticed a significant omission. For those of us who follow classical music closely it has always been a marvel how many famous performers have come from Odessa. The unusual amount might have made me "assess" that and thus you might "feel" that the addition is less than neutral. Truth is, if you know about classical music and check the list of additions their relevance in the world of performing is quite unusual. Even though I have donate to Wikipedia I hardly edit anything. This time, however, I could not let it go. You are welcome to correct spelling or "opinion" but I think there are some incredible truths here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ackermanle (talkcontribs) 10:32, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Ackermanle, and thank you for leaving a message here with your concerns. Your edit here to Odessa Oblast added adjectives that caused the content to reflect a positive viewpoint rather than a neutral one. Specifically, "Odessa has been the cradle of a siginificant [sic] amount of renown musicians. Some of the most eminent violinists in history were born here." read to me like overly positively-worded sentences where you call Odessa a location with many renown musicians, and that some of the best ones were born there. These are the exact kinds of words and phrases that you need to fix or remove in order to get it to the level of neutrality. If you have any questions, please make sure to read through Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and let me know if I can help you and I'll be happy to do so. Thanks again for the message, I hope my response helped point you in the right direction, and I wish you happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:28, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

How can I become

Hello User:Oshwah can you tell me how can i become Vandal Fighter. *HB* (talkcontribs) 14:55, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Horwayboys! Sure, of course I can :-). A great place to start is by reading Wikipedia's page on recent changes patrolling, as this is what "vandal fighting" is called and what it actually involves. Essentially, what you do is patrol Wikipedia's recent changes and from there, you'll learn to spot, identify, and revert vandalism and disruptive edits. This page will also link you to other relevant and important guidelines, as well as to really great tools that make patrolling and looking for disruption very easy to do. Check it out, give it a read-though, and let me know if you have any questions - I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you. Thanks for the message, and I hope that you decide to get involved and help us with patrolling - we can definitely use more hands in this area and I'm sure that you'd be a great addition to those that regularly patrol and handle vandalism :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:02, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
@Oshwah: I got a message from TeaHouse on my talk page. Can you explain me about it like what it is and what should i do. *HB* (talkcontribs) 16:20, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Horwayboys - The teahouse is simply a space where new users can go to ask basic questions and collaborate with helpers and get some extra assistance with getting started or understanding basic policies or how things work. There's nothing that you're obligated or have to do involving the teahouse; the message you received was only intended to let you know about it and tell you that it's a place you can visit should you need any help. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:30, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
@Oshwah: Thanks. *HB* (talkcontribs) 16:31, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

@Oshwah: How can i use wikipedia tool. Does i need to install them. *HB* (talkcontribs) 17:11, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
It depends on which tool you want to use. If you read through the page I linked you to, you'll see that this section lists a lot of different tools that are available. My recommendation for you, since you're new here and just getting started, would be to enable Twinkle and then either use Wikipedia's recent changes page or use something easy like Lupin's Anti-vandal tool to start patrolling. Before you can begin using Lupin's Anti-vandal tool, you'll need to follow some instruction on the page in order to enable it. You enable Twinkle by navigating to your preferences. This is what I'd recommend for you, as they're solid and easy tools and don't require any downloading or installation. Let me know if I can do anything else for you and I'll be happy to help. Let me know how it goes! Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:24, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Oshwah Please look into this page Huggle_(app) as it shows a message that this article has many issues and contains text written like an advertisement & most of the given references are inappropriate. *HB* (talkcontribs) 17:30, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

@Oshwah: I know Wikipedia:Huggle is an Anti-Vandalising tool but i was talking about Huggle_(app) that this article has many issues and contains text written like an advertisement & most of the given references are inappropriate. Hope you understood. *HB* (talkcontribs) 04:27, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Horwayboys - Ahh, got'cha... I thought you were looking at the different tools and accidentally went into the wrong namespace :-). It looks like the best thing to do here is to read through the article and improve content so that it doesn't come off as sounding like an advertisement when read. The second concern regarding the close connection isn't something we can easily address; that will come with discussion and feedback to the users involved, and so on... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:32, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Oshwah: I noticed that many anonymous users come and edit articles with false or impropriate information. Is there any way to stop them from doing that. How can one protect an article. *HB* (talkcontribs) 14:38, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Edit summary field.

How do I open the edit summary field? I had it opened only on my second try. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hoti Kubera (talkcontribs) 15:12, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Hoti Kubera! Welcome to Wikipedia! The edit summary field will always be directly underneath the main field where you type and enter changes into page content in order to modify it. Wikipedia has a help page here that will show you exactly where the edit summary field is and how to use it. In a nutshell: each time you make an edit, you'll enter a brief explanation of what you did into the field before you click "Save". What you really should do is go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial. Not only will it teach you about using the edit summary, but it will also teach you many more things that are important and that you'll need to know about. Go through this tutorial and you'll be set to go :-). If the new user tutorial still leaves you with any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. I hope your day is going well, I extend to you my sincere welcome to the project, and I wish you happy editing :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:19, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Comment not enough neutral

Hi Oshwah,

I understand you removed one word from my edit (i.e. "wrongly") in the page British Rail Class 374. I don't know if this word is neutral or not, but it is fact that Network Rail said they delivered the platform adaptations (cf. the link supplied in the edit), but it is fact also that they do not delivered -- as the platform is still not compatible to the new Eurostar train e320 today. This compatibility issue was supposed to be fixed on the 1st of April 2018, and Network Rail wrongly stated that they delivered the upgrade. Please reverse your change. KentTN (talk) 15:57, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi KentTN, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your explanation. Ahhh, okay I get what you mean now. I thought that "wrongly" in this context might have been an opinion, but if it was actually incorrect, then yeah by all means feel free to go ahead and put the word back. Thanks again for letting me know, and I apologize if my removal of the word caused any inconvenience or frustration. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:59, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi.

I just read your message about reverting the external links I included in the changes on the Charging Station page. I would like to know why you think the links were inappropriate.

Replacing the links with references which in turn includes the links (which is done for several of the entries in the lists in question, such as EVTronic) provides no benefit as is simply a level of indirection. The CHAdeMO page uses direct links instead of references that consist of links. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bartron67 (talkcontribs) 17:54, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Bartron67! Taking another look at the external links you provided, they actually seem okay. I'm sorry for the confusion - I see a lot of people edit these kinds of articles and add unnecessary external links with the purpose of promoting a company or organization in a sneaky way. I don't believe that is your intention. However, I did see this edit you made to CHAdeMO which added content about these same companies. I reverted this too, because it can be translated as being written as an attempt to advertise. We obviously want to keep content written to reflect a neutral point of view and I felt that this would compromise that. Why these two companies? Why only add external links to those? Surely there are many other companies that also provide this product. Let me know, and please don't hesitate to message me if you have more questions or concerns and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:41, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah. You were right about the my first edit. The links were intended to be proof of my claim that those companies manufacture fast-charging stations, and thus they should have been included as references instead of external links. My edit on CHAdeMO was not intended to be advertisement. I discovered these two companies during a search for charging-station manufacturers. When I tried to look up more info on charging stations and CHAdeMO on Wikipedia, I discovered that other companies were listed in the two pages in question, but not the two Canadian ones in question. So I added them. Before adding them, I looked at how other companies were included in that CHAdeMO section to see if adding them would be appropriate, and I did try to follow the same writing style. I only intended to state facts and never intended to express an opinion nor advertise them. Re-reading the section again, I still believe that my edit was inline with the mentions of other companies in the section. I don't see how my edit can be considered advertising, but the text about Princeton Power Systems or the European companies are not. Bartron67 (talk) 15:02, 4 September 2018 (UTC)Bartron67 (talk)
Bartron67 - I went ahead and restored the edit you made to CHAdeMO given your response above and your explanation. I apologize for any frustration and inconvenience that my revert may have caused upon you. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you. Thanks again for the response and I wish you a great rest of your day :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:48, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Najwa Karam Editing Article

Hello sir i am a journalist, my name is Maroun Yammine. Someone enter a false news about the number of the selling albums by the super star Najwa Karam, and her age. So pleas if you want to help me.

(talk page watcher) Hi, on wikipedia, you need reliable sources to support your edits, not the opinion of an editor. Even if this editor is personally well informed about an article, he/she needs to cite published material in order to edit properly the said article. If you need any further help do not hesitate, just ask. Cheers.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 18:42, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi there! Going off what Wikaviani said above, your edit here doesn't include any citations or references, which is an important fundamental of Wikipedia and an encyclopedia - to make sure that all information is verifiable for legitimacy and accuracy. Information and content that contains data is especially something that needs references, and your edit changing these numbers definitely needs one. If there aren't references to verify the current data, then remove it! It's better to have no data on Wikipedia on something than to have incorrect or wrong data. If you have any more questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. Thanks for the message, and I wish you happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:53, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

I see that you added content to Can you please explain this in more detail? Why are you putting this as your edit summary when you're removing content? This is confusing to other readers and editors when you write that as your edit summary - perhaps you meant to instead write, "moving data over to other article"? Edited page where my edit was rolled back.

Hi there,

I'm pretty new to Wikipedia editing. You rolled by an edit I made with Huggle on the page, Anastasia Has the Answers. I've been going through to add information to book pages (particularly book pages missing an ISBN), and I was going through that book's series. When I was reviewing the series I came back to that page and saw everything missing, and my assumption was that I simply overlooked that page, so I edited the infobox again. Right before I published the new edit, I noticed that I had made edits but they had been rolled back. I ended up publishing my edit but I did not include the external link that was listed as the reason for my original edit being rolled back. I realized after the fact that this might be seen as problematic behavior, so I just wanted to respond to let you know I wasn't trying to belligerently repeat an edit that was rolled back. If there is a problem or anything, please let me know. Thanks! B bradley26 (talk) 21:02, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi B bradley26! Nope, what you did was just fine. I only wanted to revert this change, not everything you changed. It looks like I accidentally did so, and I sincerely apologize for that. Luckily, you were able to interpret what I meant to do and your follow-up edit is perfectly fine :-). Thanks for the message and for letting me know about this... I hope you have a great rest of your day and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:06, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I accidentally clicked publish too soon and added stuff to the talk page. I'm not sure how it's particularly relevant to note that there was a proclamation in 2016 when there has been a proclamation every year by the President since at least 2007 starting with President George W. Bush:

Noted that Sonni Efrom lifted the phrase "Truth Decay" without attribution from a 1980 album by T Bone Burnett.

If you don't think I improved the article about Truth Decay, how can you possibly let the claim that he "coined a term" stand when it is obvious that he lifted the term. The term Truth Decay was used by T. Bone Burnett for his album and it was also used in a book with a Christian focus rejecting the insights of postmodernism. Claiming that he "coined the term" is patent falsehood. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.54.213.66 (talk) 03:22, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Right to Keep and Bear Arms

User Cimmerian Praetor keeps loading this article up with gun laws from the Czech Republic--including pictures now. The article is about countries that have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms, not about gun laws of the world. The article originally started out with a big jumbled mess of gun laws for countries of the world and--by consensus--it was pared down to just countries which did have constitutional rights to keep and bear arms. Now, with Cimmerian Praetor's off-topic additions, the article is once again becoming a jumbled mess. He has created his entry and used it in other places as cut and paste. A reader of the article would be hard pressed to understand how countries without constitutional rights to keep and bear arms are found in an article on the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If he wants to add this huge amount of confusing information, then he should take it to talk first. I am not a vandal; I am merely trying to keep the focus of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FEA8:88A0:184C:4452:DAE0:5057:A462 (talk) 04:56, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! After looking further back on the article's edit history, it's clear that this has been an ongoing dispute between yourself and a number of other editors involved there. Given the dispute as a whole and looking at it from "the big picture", I don't want to get involved with the dispute and I'll just leave it to you and the others involved to sort it out among yourselves. can togay wikipedia english

Hi,

I have tried several times to ad some precisions to Wikipedia article "Can Togay" ... all of them were removed. Some were notes on filmography (verifiable on IMDB https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0865557/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t45), some evident precisions (as to "years active", which can be verified from the article itself) and one biographical to which i added an external link (https://www.filmuniversitaet.de/portrait/person/can-togay/) as proof. What did I do wrong?

(edit conflict) DBigXray - I apologize if my initial response and push-back caused you any frustration. Like with all other policies and guidelines, administrators are also required to follow the guidelines in the revision deletion policy and not to rev del anything that doesn't meet any of the criteria. Doing so has led to bad things happening to admins in the past who violated the rev del policy, and I don't to want to violate policy - I had to make sure. Regardless, it has been taken care of and I'm happy to see that you're satisfied with the results. If you need my assistance with anything else in the future, please don't hesitate to leave me a message like you did here and I'll be happy to help you :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:11, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! I reverted the edits that expanded the article subject's name because I didn't see a reliable source cited to support that this was the person's middle name. Raghava_Lawrence

I saw you had reverted my changes to the article Raghava_Lawrence citing that I did not provide any reasons for my changes. In fact I had provided the reason on the talk page of the article before making the changes. The section in the article which i removed was in a way promoting unscientific and unhealthy view point by providing some shoddy references. It was no way adhering to the wiki standards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raviscn (talkcontribs) 15:11, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Raviscn! Thanks for leaving me a message and for explaining the edit. Perfect - thanks for using the article's talk page to discuss the issues and your planned changes in-depth - you're establishing excellent habits for becoming an experienced and long-term Wikipedia editor; keep up the good work! The reason I removed your edit was because you didn't explain your changes in the edit summary. These edit summaries show up alongside each page's edit history and help other editors to understand what you changed and why. When editors see that someone removed a bunch of content and without an edit summary explaining why, the chances are high that they'll probably revert your changes. You'll just want to use the edit summary to briefly explain your changes with your edits in the future (even if it's something short such as "See discussion on talk page"). If you do this with every edit you make, you'll not only be establishing another good habit that experienced and long-term editors practice, you'll also avoid inconvenience and confusion (like what happened with this edit). If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:37, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Article Homoeopathy

Hlo Oshwah, I want to ask something that in the article on "Homoeopathy", it is mentioned that "Homeopathy is a pseudoscience – a belief that is incorrectly presented as scientific" which is not true about Homoeopathy but it is mentioned their which gives the wrong impression on thousands of people who reach wikipedia to know about Homoeopathy And as per my knowledge, wikipedia is the most trustable encyclopedia. So this line should not be there.

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr A.P.S.Chhabra (talkcontribs) 21:09, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dr A.P.S.Chhabra, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions. Your edit here to Wart had a few issues that needed to be reverted in order to resolve them. First, your edit removed other content and added what looks to be an accidental insertion of text to the article. Aside from this, your edit also did not cite any sources in-line with the content you added - see this page for how to identify reliable sources and this page for how to add or cite them in-line with the content you're editing. Aside from this, your edit also contained statements that added your own opinion and analysis, stating that "homoeopathy [sic] is very effective in treating warts" (you also spelled 'homeopathy' incorrectly). Wikipedia's policies require that all content that is added to any and all articles must be worded to reflect a neutral point of view, so opinionated statements like this will be viewed as problematic when reviewed by other editors. Since you're new to Wikipedia and just joined us as a member of the community as an editor, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial, as it will provide you with guides, walkthroughs, and an overview of the rules and guidelines, how everything works, and where to click in order to find important pages and perform important basic tasks things here. Think of it like an interactive walk-through guide that walks you through how to do things :-). I recommend this for all new users, and those who take my advice and complete it usually say that it was of significant help. If you have any questions after completing the tutorial, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message, I again welcome to Wikipedia and hope you become a long-term experienced editor here with us, and I wish you a great day and happy editing :-). New Square

Hi Oshwah, An IP did some possibly 'good faith' POV damage to New Square, New York, but I can't undo it due to a good subsequent edit, regarding the Republican party wikilink, and there's too much to fix manually. Might you be able to perform some of your magic here? Much obliged. StonyBrook (talk) 02:30, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

P.S. The change to the Hebrew now translates 'New Square' literally, which is unsourced. The previous version had it as 'Skver Housing Project' or 'Skver Housing Development.' And 'Hasidic' is simply a qualifier of the larger 'Haredi' group. New Square is an Hasidic village. StonyBrook (talk) 02:51, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi StonyBrook! I apologize for the delay getting back to you about this! Sure, I'll be more than happy to help you - fixing articles and complicated matter are my specialty ;-). If you compare the article (see the comparison here) between the version before the IP user made those two edits and the current revision right now (the edit that Rodw made), only one internal link is different and it doesn't seem to be related to your concerns. Can you verify that everything has been fixed? Let me know. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:15, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
@Oshwah: No worries, I know you are a busy man. No, the problems haven't been fixed yet. Here are the problematic diffs. The diff cited above in your reply to me, the latest edit of the article, is a constructive one that unfortunately prevented me from undoing the IP edits in the first place. Yehuda kolko

Hi again, why am I getting a message that I can't move the redirect Yehuda kolko to Yehuda Kolko, with the surname properly capitalized? Is it because both already exist? StonyBrook (talk) 03:33, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Ok, I see that both exist. What's next, we leave the first one alone? Not my department:) StonyBrook (talk) 03:40, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) @StonyBrook: Yes, pages cannot be moved in the normal fashion when a page already exists, and has had more than edit, or does not redirect to the page you are trying to move. In this case, both Yehuda kolko and Yehuda Kolko redirect to Yeshiva Torah Temimah, so why exactly do you need to move anything? I'm asking because if the request is reasonable, I can move if for you, as I have Page Mover rights. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 03:49, 3 September 2018 (UTC)::
@BilCat: Good point. Now that I know a proper uppercase version exists, I will just go ahead and ignore the lowercase one. StonyBrook (talk) 04:13, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Lourdes - Oh that's fine, I don't mind at all. I only added the font and whatever because I've done it elsewhere and in order to say consistent, I guess... I didn't mean to emphasize anything toward you with the bold font or imply anything at all. Christopher Mason Powell

Hi,

I posted an article last night that I wrote for Christopher Mason Powell and would like feedback on how to revise the article to get it published on Wikipedia. I realize the links are not working or missing; however, Chris will provide the links to me prior to my resubmission. I have known him for over 30 years and can vouch for much of the information in the article. If there are other addressable issues with the article, please advise me so I can remediate.

Kind Regards, Veronica Stevenson — Preceding unsigned comment added by Christopher Mason Powell (talkcontribs) 04:54, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Christopher Mason Powell - Oops! I received your email just a bit ago and asked you to post your message on my user talk page. It appears that you had done so already here. My apologies for not catching that... I responded to your message below. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:35, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Page unprotection

Please unprotect the Social Democratic Party of Austria article, the "protection" is disruptive, I need to update the infobox, and I can ensure you that the imaginary edit war will not go on. Colonestarrice (talk) 10:42, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Colonestarrice - Have you and Damvile discussed the issue and come to a consensus regarding the content dispute and back-and-fourth reverting that's been going on there for the last week or so? I saw the discussion between you two at Talk:Social Democratic Party of Austria and added a comment to it, but I don't see any others. You're also welcome to add an edit request to the article's talk page in order to request changes that are non-controversial or unrelated to the dispute between you and Damvile. I'll be happy to review it and update the article for you while you two are working things out. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:36, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your proposition/invitation, but I would still like the protection to be removed if possible. As I said, I will not make any dispute-related changes until consensus has been achieved. Colonestarrice (talk) 17:02, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Colonestarrice - Thanks for the response. Please see my comment at the relevant discussion on the article's talk page here and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:50, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Good, I called the party and they confirmed that this is not their (current) party flag. I should soon get the confirmation per mail as well, how do I then use this as a prove? Colonestarrice (talk) 14:51, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Colonestarrice - I'd add to the details and information to the article's talk page. This cannot be used as a source in the article itself, but it will at least help you with locating one :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:53, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

And this will help me how exactly? So Damvile and Thewolfchild can say "I don't believe you", I get outvoted, false information remains, 10 points to Wikipedia congratulations... the party itself endorsed my version and this is not accepted? who should i ask next, God? Colonestarrice (talk) 16:22, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Colonestarrice - The policies and guidelines regarding references are listed here: Verifiability policy, Identifying reliable sources guideline, Citing sources guideline. Let's not shoot the messenger, here... I'm here to answer your questions and point you to the relevant policies and guidelines that will assist you. There's nothing beyond that I can do... everyone refers to the same Wikipedia pages when it comes to policies and guidelines. I may have many years of experience on Wikipedia, but I can't work magic and I obviously can't allow policies to be violated. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else and I'll be happy to do so. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:30, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Excuse my overreaction, you approached the whole thing very competently, Wikipedia guidelines and bureaucracy are sometimes just frustrating. Is there any other way to prove that the party endorses my version? Colonestarrice (talk) 19:52, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Colonestarrice - No big deal :-). I completely understand - it's not just frustrating... it's aggravating when you feel that you have correct information and something put the brakes on being able to use it. Well, okay, how did you contact this party? What physical proof or data would you provide if you were hypothetically able to cite it in the article? Let me know. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:57, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Well I mailed them and called them. They confirmed via phone call what I thought and now I'm waiting for the same response on mail. My Email address is a Gmail address and their official mail address is "direkt@spoe.at" which you can find on their website. So to answer your question: I could provide an Email. Colonestarrice (talk) 20:41, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Still there? I finally received the same per mail now by the way. Colonestarrice (talk) 12:22, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah, would you consider protecting the Roxanne Pallett article again? The previous protection ended this morning, just as she gave her first interview since leaving the Big Brother house, so there's been renewed interest in the article and another spate of vandalism. - JuneGloom07 Talk 16:39, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

JuneGloom07 - Sorry for the delay getting back to you! I took a look at the article, and the protection has been applied by another admin. Had this not been the case, I would have gladly done it for you. Let me know if I can do anything else for you and I'll be happy to help. Kind Regards, Veronica Stevenson Christopher Mason Powell (talk) 17:10, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Christopher Mason Powell, and thanks for leaving a message here with your request. The page you created on your user page was deleted because it met Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria under this section. The issue with what you wrote was because it was about yourself and and written in a manner that appeared as if your purpose or intent was to self-promote. I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you spend any more time editing or creating content, as it will provide you with very important guides and walkthroughs, as well as an overview of the rules and guidelines, how everything works, and how to make sure that the content you're creating or adding meets Wikipedia's guidelines. Think of it like an interactive walk-through guide that walks you through how to do things :-). This will be important and highly beneficial to you, as spending the hours upon hours of time writing content only to have them deleted just ultimately wastes all of your time. It's better to know and understand these guidelines and check if whom you're writing about is notable first and before you spend all of that time. We also highly discourage autobiographies and any edits to articles where you have a conflict of interest with the subject or topic, and these should also be covered in that tutorial. If you have any questions after completing the new user tutorial, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:34, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Piling on to that, WP is full off all kinds of rules. Per WP:MISLEADNAME, if you're not Christopher Mason Powell you can't have that username. Or share that username with him. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:04, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Gråbergs Gråa Sång is correct. I've added a notice along with some instructions to your user talk page as a new message. Please follow these directions in order to change your username to something else. Since you admit to not being this person, you cannot have the username of this person. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:17, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Is adding a navbox template to the bottom of a page a minor edit? —Eli355 (talk | contribs) 19:36, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Eli355! Since you're adding a template to a page, you would not mark the edit as 'minor' per this help page section. Let me know if you have any more questions or if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so :-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:38, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I'm Joshq1234 I want you to speak with this @GadgetGigi about his edits on his user page which violates U5: WP:NOTWEBHOST. In past I've nominated his user page for speedy deletion and one of the administrator deleted his user page. Few days after the deletion he again re-created the same thing. I warned him and he is doing his edits as usually. Recently i have nominated his user page for CSD and he deleted the tag and continuing his edits (test edits) on his user page.Joshq.JQ 20:31, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Joshq1234. I took a look at GadgetGigi's user page and the content appeared to be test edits. GadgetGigi just seems to be experimenting and playing around with graphs, colors, rows, columns, tables, and other HTML and wiki code. I didn't see any harm in what he/she was doing, so I talked to this user on their user talk page and we moved everything over to this user's sandbox and he/she's going to work in there. This should resolve this issue for everyone; nobody will bump into it on his/her user page and think that this is an attempt to host something, and GadgetGigi won't be inconvenienced with suspicions and concerns. We should be all set now. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you and I'll be happy to help. Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-). Doomtrooper

Hey, I've just found your message about the changes. I'm not used to edit Wikipedia, so I'd actually appreciate your help, cause you seem to be much more experienced with this. First, the game is called Doomtrooper, I provided you around 5 sources including the official website (link in the same article), so I have no idea what more you need. If you can do so, please also change the name of the whole article from "Doom Trooper" to "Doomtrooper", as well as one of the reference links, cause I have no idea how to edith those two.

I'd also entirely remove the comparision with a video game. Such things can be in an article about Mutant Chronicles, but what is the connection between a CCG and some arcade game? It's like a note about Donalt Trump in an article about bridge (card game) and trumps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.102.42.206 (talk) 00:26, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your request for help. Sure, no problem - I'll be happy to help you out. What we need to do is locate URLs and links to reliable sources, and then what we'll need to do is start a new discussion on the article's talk page here and state in your new discussion that the name of the article is incorrect and should be changed. You'll just list the references you found that support your argument at the end of your statements, and then save it. This will allow other editors to participate and either agree with you, or disagree with you and provide you with their proof. This is the best way to resolve this matter if the title of the article is wrong. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:32, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Doomtrooper

You seem to be a nice person, helpful and everything, but I tried to fix the article few times, you call it disruptive, the "process" is obviously more important than the "matter" for you, then you can either finish the process yourself according your rules or you can keep the article wrong, cause I - being a bystander - actually don't want to learn how to make the changes according the rules, how to register as an editor or whatever is needed. I gave you a hint what's wrong, I told you how to fix it, deal with it yourself. There is no reason to waste my time fixing things for others, if they want it wrong. I wrote the request at the page you sent me though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.102.42.206 (talk) 01:19, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

I'm sorry to hear that you don't want to join and participate with us. You're of course welcome to change what you believe is correct (which is what you were doing at first), but when you're asked to stop making those kinds of edits and they give you instructions on how to resolve this quickly, you don't get to respond and say "I don't want to do that - that's your job" and then continue to revert the article in a disruptive manner . You've ignored multiple warnings and a message from me with directions on how to get your concerns properly addressed. If you don't want to participate and help us, it's completely fine; someone else out there will undoubtedly read the article and if they also feel that it's wrong, they'll follow the correct steps. What you will not do is be disruptive, ignore warnings and messages asking you to stop what you're doing, and edit or behave disruptively. You can either remain as a "bystander" (as you called it), or you can edit constructively to a level of involvement until you feel that you've had enough and you can stop and quit at any time. If the disruption continues, you will be blocked from editing and will have no choice at that point but to be a "bystander". Either way, you make your choice... it just would be really nice if you could avoid making me have to make that choice for you. Please make a decision, and please stop repeatedly reverting the article. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:03, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

 • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or

Help with the Comedy Dynamics page

Hi Oshwah, thank you for the thanks regarding my copy edit for Comedy Dynamics. I am glad you did that, because I have a question about what I've done and I'd value your opinion. I am participating in the GOCE September drive, and had randomly chosen Comedy Dynamics as an article to edit. I spent several hours researching the company, and noticed that it was hard to find reliable secondary sources. It made me question the company's notability, but I didn't dwell on WP:NOTE issues because that wasn't my objective. Part way through editing I realized that one of the paragraphs in the Wikipedia article was copied and pasted from the company's website. It was Wikilinked and reformatted, but the words were the same. I edited it to remove marketing fluff and put it in perspective ("On its website, Comedy Dynamics states it has..."). After I finished all my edits and published changes, I realized that the talk page was previously deleted by User:Lankiveil per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Comedy Dynamics on 10 April 2015. User:ComedyDynamics (renamed User:ComedyGuy15) had unsuccessfully attempted to defend the article's notability. About six weeks after it was deleted, someone registered the account User:ComedyFan2015 and re-created the deleted article. User:ComedyFan2015 has been regularly updating the ‎Discography since then. My first question is, if copying and pasting text from the company website is a copyright violation, is editing the right way to resolve the issue, or should it have been flagged as a violation? My second question is, if there is reason to believe User:ComedyFan2015 is a sock puppet of Comedy Dynamics, should the Comedy Dynamics article be re-nominated for deletion? Thank you for your thoughts and guidance. Romhilde (talk) 06:33, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Romhilde! Thanks for leaving me a message with your questions. So, I took a look at the article as well as the deleted revisions, and I found that they're generally similar but there have been significant enough changes to consider them "different". The original AFD was closed over three years ago as well, so I wouldn't apply a G4 here. If you question the page's notability and your search for enough coverage makes you think that it isn't notable enough, nominate it for AFD instead of wasting your time adding content to it. You can't "save" an AFD; either there's enough sources that we can find on the internet to satisfy the requirements to assert notability, or there isn't. How well-written the article is will have no impact on the outcome of the discussion if done properly.
I took a look at the two accounts you ran into and felt the same way; their usernames are similar and they're both editing the same pages. However, I compared the two account's total edit histories, and the ComedyFan2015 account stopped editing in 2017, and the ComedyDynamics account just started editing recently. It's possible that the user lost their password to their old account, abandoned it, etc and moved to this one. So long as they're not using these accounts at the same time and for abusing them as sock puppets, there's no action to be taken with them except maybe enforcing the username policy and asking them to change their usernames.
Copying text straight from another website is obviously a violation of policy in regards to copyright. While changing some key words and a few phrases is a step in the right direction, the best thing to do is paraphrase using the reference. If you do this, then there won't be a question as to what you did was a copyright violations or not - it wouldn't be. If enough of the article text is a violation where deleting it all would render the content unreadable or completely useless, then yes report it. But if it's only part of the document (like a paragraph) and deleting it wouldn't cut enough content that it becomes a useless mess, then just remove the problematic content, or (even better) modify it and paraphrase from the source as I mentioned above. Not only will it eliminate the problem, bit we can keep what's fixed.
Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Like I said above, I strongly recommend that you figure out if this article is notable or not and before you touch it anymore. You'll be potentially wasting your time and spending it improving the article and for absolutely nothing in the end. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a happy time in the writer's guild project. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:55, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah, I wanted to say thank you for your response. I really appreciate the well-stated points and clear explanations. I gave the notability some thought, and ultimately nominated the article for deletion. I think it's out of my hands now, so I'm back to copy editing. =) Thanks again, Romhilde (talk) 04:07, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jojocrafty. Your user page was deleted due to containing content that solely discussed your involvement in projects not involving Wikipedia - see this section of Wikipedia's policy on user pages for an explanation of what we generally allow and what we generally don't allow on user pages. Please remember that Wikipedia is not a blog, web hosting service, or social networking service, and content added to your user space should be primarily on-topic and regarding Wikipedia-related matters. This is why your user page was deleted. If you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. For your attitude which never seems to sour, your efforts which never seem to tire, your dedication to a wide variety of thankless and unending admin work, your overwhelming contributions to recent changes patrol, and your bottomless well of kindness and helpfulness to your fellow users. You've proven yourself to be one of our finest and most valuable administrators, and your efforts here make a huge difference. The project is lucky to have you. Keep up the fantastic work, Oshwah! Swarm! Long time no chat, my friend! This is probably one of the most thoughtful and meaningful barnstars I've received from someone. It really means a lot to hear that my time spent helping people here, patrolling recent changes, wiping LTAs away before anyone knows that happened - all of that good fun stuff - means at least a little bit to someone out there. Thank you, Swarm, very much for taking the time to leave me this barnstar and for the very kind words. With a lot of the unfortunate events of very heated frustration and drama occurring lately around various areas of the project and at the same time, this is a flash of brighness in what's become darkness lately, and I hope that we pick ourselves up quickly and continue to look in a forward direction with a positive attitude and with the project's best interest in mind. I hope you have a great day, and I hope we speak again soon. Thanks again, and happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:23, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
You're too kind. Here I was thinking this would just be one drop in the ocean of barnstars you've already received. There's just no need, because you're a great, drama-free admin, and you never need input or feedback. I've always appreciated and respected that. Much of the time, you're an example for other admins including myself to follow. You're always a refreshing sight, and a calming influence. Anyway, it's a pleasure just to chat for a change. Things have gotten pretty dark around here lately, haven't they? Particularly in regards to the admin corps. I think I've seen more darkness and drama in the past month than in my entirety editing here. We've had feuds, blocks, resignations, retirements, edit wars, calls for desysoppings and bans, all between administrators I respect, and all over what seem to be fairly minor issues. I've even seen some of our calmest, most level-headed admins lash out lately. I don't know what's going on, but I hope it blows over quickly. It's users like you who will be essential in moving us forward in a positive and productive way. By the way, I've been meaning to tell you, I'm well aware that I opposed your application for CU last year, and I've never stopped regretting that. I've been waiting for the next round of openings for most of the past year, just to encourage you to re-apply. I don't know if you've done so, or if you're planning on it, but it's happening now, and if you do, you will have my full endorsement for CU and/or OS. I mean that! Swarm 09:08, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Swarm - Ahh, no worries about last year at all. You voted based on how you truly felt at the time and with the project's best interest as your first and foremost priority. That's the best mindset to have when participating in a discussion, and I hold absolutely no grudges against you at all for doing what you felt was the right thing to do. Oh yes... the recent incidents have indeed been very disappointing to watch. It was surprising to see some editors and administrators I grew to know as pretty decent and level-headed get sucked so far into into the drama, and I did a double-take when I saw the name of some of the admins who let themselves succumb to the immature and petty things that were being thrown at one another and start to pick up rocks to join in. We'll definitely move forward from this and the project will of course continue to operate and we'll recover - but we really need to grow a stronger culture that strives for a peaceful, calm, patient, positive, and level-headed atmosphere. For each editor that packs their bags to leave for good is not only a loss for us and the project, but it creates an empty spot that somebody else will have to fill. We'll just need to "shuffle" a bit to get comfortable again and press on, but our project is still strong and we still have a lot of genuinely good people here who are still with us and who will take the lead and help us do better :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:51, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Agreed! It's good to hear someone articulate these thoughts—reminds me of the sentiments I had before I was an admin. I genuinely wanted to make a difference on the project by spreading kindness, resolving conflicts, deescalating drama, and helping others. The admin backlog has completely carried me away from those goals and turned me into a high-strung cynic. I regret it, and that's probably part of the reason I admire your positivity and kindness so much. Anyways, I'll let you get back to it, but I look forward to seeing you around and hope our paths cross again real soon! Best regards, Swarm 04:33, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

RevisionDeletion request

[REDACTED - Oshwah] Dear Oshwah, thank you for sending me warning regarding my old username and I have already changed it to meet username requirements. As you might have guessed I'm quite new to wikipedia and really didn't know better and made some serious mistakes and did not follow general guidelines and seemed like I was vandalising a page I was trying to contribute to due to some content dispute. If it is possible, I'd really want to ask for your help to retract some of these mistakes on the captioned page history that I have made, I wrote some rather unnecessary and unhelpful "edit summaries" :

[REDACTED - Oshwah]

at this following edit times. I feel rather bad about it and I am slowly learning the editing guidelines and etiquette now, started communicating with other users constructively. I'm sorry that I'd have to bother you, but would really appreciate and like to thank you for your time for helping me out. Thank you. Tongtong2018 (talk) 13:11, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Tongtong2018! I'm happy that you got things taken care of regarding your username and that you're doing your best to try and learn things and grow as an editor on the project! Are you requesting this for a different language Wikipedia project? I can only perform revision deletion on the English Wikipedia - for requests regarding revision deletion at a different language Wikipedia project, you'll need to request it from an administrator there. Let me know if you have any questions or if I'm incorrect with my response here, and I'll be happy to make sure that you get the assistance you need. Direct Selling Association - Updating the Name of the Organization's Chairman (he information that's currently listed is two years out of date)

Oshwah -

I have posted all my edit requests on the Direct Selling Association Wikipedia entry, and I have also created an account for myself that identifies myself as a paid consultant for this organization.

You will note that the entry's Chairman of the Board was last updated in 2015 - David Holl is no longer the Chairman. If you follow this this reference link you will see that John Parker is now the chairman[1].

Also, the membership is now 130 companies - the membership number listed on the page is also out of date as you can see from the following reference link [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by BradReichard (talkcontribs) 14:54, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

None of the editors on the page have made the requested edit, and I don't understand if I ever even made a formal request. I wanted to know if this is the sort of edit I can do on my own - or perhaps you could make it for me?

Thanks for your guidance!

BradReichard (talk) 14:48, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi BradReichard - Did you add those edit requests by following the directions listed here and by using the edit request template? It looks like you might be missing that... let me know if this resolves your issue. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:58, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah - thanks for the reminder about requests for edits being made by paid contributors like me. I believe I did this correctly - I also included the links to the organizational site to verify the information's validity. Thanks so much for your guidance - Brad BradReichard (talk) 16:26, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Paulus -imprisonment (citation)

Hello,

The Feb. 2018 issue of World War II magazine had an mini-article about the imprisonment of General Paulus in the monastery in Suzdal, however, i cannot find the article online. I do not have the magazine, so cannot find the title of the article.

However, i've found another sources as well: http://www.go2war2.nl/artikel/4713/Paulus-Friedrich.htm

Canal street article

Hi I updated the text 1980s to the exact year as mentioned in the cited article which is 1987. Minister for Jobs and Industrial Relations

Good morning Oshwah, I have been making edits to the Minister for Jobs and Industrial Relations page.

I have not finished yet but you have reversed the changes. The changes I am making are to update the page following the announcement of the first Morrison Ministry: https://www.pmc.gov.au/sites/default/files/publications/morrison-ministry-announced-260818.pdf

Please bring back my changes because I don't really feel like doing the work twice.

Hi Wiki Editor 8456973256! The concerns with your edits were both the unexplained removal of content as well as failing to cite a reliable source. It looks like your explanation and the reference you provided here seem okay. When you return, can you let me know so I can help you with restoring the article? Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:25, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Why Are You Threatening Me With a Ban?

First, wikipedia sent me a notice that my article on EverCharge would be pulled and that I must defend it from baseless accusations.

After I did that now you are saying I am going to be banned if I attempt to defend it?

This whole process makes little sense. Wikipedia not only allows someone to say that my article doesn't fit notability standards without a shred of proof, just relying on that users say. Then you tell me I'll be banned for trying to address their accusations and defend my article.

What gives? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nagleess (talkcontribs) 22:33, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Nagleess, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and concerns. Wikipedia's notability guidelines are located here. It's important that you review and understand these guidelines before you spend time writing an article on something or someone. Else you may wind up wasting all that time to figure out later that the article subject does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines... and trust me, I understand the frustration. I warned you for being disruptive because you went to the deletion discussion and removed a bunch of content there. That's not "defending your article", that's being disruptive - especially as the creator of the article. This is why I reverted those changes and warned you. Please review the guidelines I linked you to, consider going through and completing Wikipedia's new user tutorial, and let me know if you have any questions about those guidelines. I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you a great day. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:39, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Reverting my edit.

Hello,

Dear Oshwah. Thank you for your message regarding my edit. However, The word architect should be entitled only to those who work in the buildings environment not anywhere else.

If you can, I would like to change also the title of the page to System Designer not system Architect. But, I could not find that option anywhere. Thank you.

P.S. My edits were constructive. People need to understand the difference and stop calling software designers; architects.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahkin88 (talkcontribs) 22:52, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Ahkin88, and thanks for leaving me a message here. I think that you should discuss your concerns on the article's talk page so that other editors can weigh in, discuss it with you, and come to a consensus. This will assure that the ending result reflects the most accurate and the highest quality content possible. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Updating the Medopad Wikipedia page

Hello Oswan

Hope you are well! I noticed that you look after vandalisation of pages and we are having problems with some inaccurate information being updated onto our page. We are hoping you can help us out.

We are looking to update the Medopad Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medopad

We have rigorously researched and sourced the new content, you can access it in a google document: [5].

Please can you advise us on the best way to update our Wikipedia page?

Thanks! Dmeadon (talk) 11:03, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dmeadon, and thanks for leaving me a message with your questions and concerns here. What vandalism are you referring to exactly? I don't see what appears to be deliberate or malicious attempts to damage the article. When you refer to the article as "our page", what does that mean exactly? Do you work for this company? Do you have a conflict of interest with this article subject? I haven't reviewed your Google document, but as long as you compile content and cite reliable sources, you should generally be fine. Let me know if you have more questions about this article and, when possible, what your relationship with the article subject is so that I can help you. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:54, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Question

Seeking advice actually; we have a slow-paced IP edit-warrior at USAF who refuses to engage and has now resorted to impersonation to add to the disruption. I've filed reports at UAA and RPP. Hopefully that will deal with the copycat account and protect the page, but is there anything else I can/should do about the IP user? Thanks - wolf 14:32, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Thewolfchild - Did you file a report at AIV? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:55, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
Nah, I didn't think it would count as actual vandalism, the admins there would probably call it a content dispute and tell me to go to ANI (the last place I want to go for anything). It's all good, the admin handling both the UAA and RPP dealt with it, hasn't been a problem since. Thanks anyway. - wolf 00:15, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Thewolfchild! Thanks for responding with the information and the update. I'm glad to hear that the issue has been handled, and I apologize for the delay responding to your message here. Problematic user

Hi, Oshwah. I just saw that once you were involved too in the illogical behavior of User:Huelam987, specifically in Elisabeth Ludovika of Bavaria's article. Maybe you didn't notice but some minutes after your edit, and even if you wrote on his talk, he undid again your edit [6]. This user always tries to impose files that he personally uploaded, even if those files are undoubtedly worse (i.e. same painting but worse quality) or apparently not so appropriated. You can find some examples of his recent edits in a message of help that I've just written of the page of another user User_talk:Miguelemejia#Marie_of_Prussia. I'm asking help to stop this unpleasant conduct, because I'm not a native user of En.Wiki, so I'm not really used to your help and administrator pages. Unfortunately in all these months, no one tried to really doing something about this problem, that I think it started on November 2017 in the article about Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz; where he tried for months and months to use this file (7 a derivative 1915 postcard) instead of this one (8 the original painting). I tried to start public confrontations with him (see for example the talk on Louise's page), but with no results and no reply by him. I thank you for your attention.--Kaho Mitsuki (talk) 14:36, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Kaho Mitsuki and thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns and request for help. Are any of these uploads still presently live? Have his/her problematic changes all been reverted? I see that You've left a very detailed message on Huelam987's user talk page with your concerns and kept a civil tone throughout - this was very commendable thing to do, and I thank you for it. If the user continues to make these problematic edits, I think the right thing to do is file a report at ANI so that the community can look into this and discuss it. It's always better to have more people examine something than less :-). Please keep me updated and let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be more than happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message and I wish you a great day :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:25, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

How to remove Page from showing in Huggle?

WP:Vandalize this I just came upon this page on Huggle, and it is a bit annoying, is there a way I can stop Huggle from showing it? Also, Should I do something about this guy? User:Lynchbrandon Lakeside Out!-LakesideMinersClick Here To Talk To Me! 14:42, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi LakesideMiners! There is a way to exclude pages from showing up onto the Huggle queue but we typically only add sandbox pages, fully protected pages (like the URL blacklist) that often draws false positives and doesn't need to be patrolled at all, and some talk pages. While this page is a humor page and is worded in a manner that pretty much welcomes vandalism, we should still have it patrolled in the event that unacceptable edits are added to the page that aren't welcome (such as harassment, threats, or serious violations of policy). If enough people agree that this should be added (I'll ping Petrb for input), I'll be happy to do so. I'm naturally hesitant to exclude entire pages unless there's a good reason to and if the probability of disruptive edits occurring on the page are extremely low. Once we exclude a page like that completely, then it opens the door for potential issues to occur and Huggle will ignore it and regardless of circumstance. The user you mentioned has been blocked as well, so it looks like that has been taken care of already ;-). Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks again for the message, and I hope you're doing well :-). Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:35, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

I'd like to ask you to remove the "Move protection" on the (now redirected) article. To be clear, I wanted to locate the original administrator, but User:Coffee has retired, and User:Only does not appear to be active so you are the next one on the log who placed editing restriction.

User:JzG moved the article to its current location, without any note or discussion based on his thought of BLP1E. The biggest challenge I have is the appearance even though the community rejected the idea of refactoring, he felt he could and should override everyone who commented on the matter. He started the 3rd nomination to delete the article within 3 weeks of the previous AfD discussion. He suggested the refactoring in the 3rd nomination, only 1 editor sort of agreed. Fast forward to Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive920#Charlene_McMann, he once again suggested refactoring, to which once again only 1 person agreed.

By moving ahead despite the community had rejected the deletion on more than one occasion (and the claim of BLP1E, as I mentioned on his talk page) , and his refusal to acknowledge my replies on his talk page, I am feeling as though one person can simply ignore the numerous editors who chimed in on the matter. (I am aware there was not a true consensus on the deletion matter. However, it was clear refactoring was not endorsed by the community)

I would ask that you remove the "move protection", or in the alternative, to move the article back to its place. Thank you for considering.--Cahk (talk) 09:24, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Why would you do that? The article is solely about her relationship to the charity. WP:BLP1E exists for a reason. Guy (Help!) 12:36, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
@JzG: Because it looks as if "I didn't get my way via community discussion, but I will do what I want anyway". Firstly, you unilaterally made the move without as much leaving a note on the article talk page, despite having started the last AfD so you are fully aware this is a controversial topic. Secondly, you have chosen not to respond whatsoever until I request the assistance of another administrator - which only adds to the frustration. I mentioned, more than once, BLP1E was argued in the last 2 rounds (chiefly by you), and it was not the result accepted by the community. I have also pointed out to you on your talk page that not every citation in the article is related to the said defunct charity. Indeed, how you came to the conclusion that the defunct charity is more notable than the subject baffles me.--Cahk (talk) 16:13, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
There is consensus for an article. We have an article. The title of the article is not mandated. WP:BLP is policy. Guy (Help!) 17:34, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
Cahk - It looks like there's a disagreement regarding what the title of the article should be, and for this reason I'm going to hold off and instead recommend that you start a discussion here with the information from the previous discussions linked so that other editors can weigh in and come to a consensus. If BLP1E does apply as JzG has suggested above, then we typically don't move content or create articles for those people. Again, a discussion with a ping to all those involved previously is the right thing to do in this case. Let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:39, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Received and responded. Make sure that messages that don't need to be private are instead asked here. This is to keep public visibility to the highest degree possible, which is an important principle on Wikipedia. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:41, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

A bit suspicious

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:LakesideMiners Has copied your talkpage and your user pages. Should you please investigate this? MikeJeavon (talk) 02:31, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

See Wikipedia's policy on ownership of content - I do not "own" any articles, pages, or content on Wikipedia - even if I created or coded them completely from scratch. The only concern that would be legitimate would be impersonation, and in this case I can assure you that this isn't an issue :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:44, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
Actually, if he took the content without attributing it (I don't know whether he did or not), that would be an issue. Adam9007 (talk) 23:50, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
Adam9007 - It was just the formatting and title from my user page. I'm not sure if he did or not or whether that's an issue or not in this situation. I believe that this only applies to content within articles and in regards to this policy page. Let me know if I'm incorrect and I'll take a look. Thanks, Adam9007! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:53, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
The user and talk page headers are very similar to yours (and I mean the content itself as well as the formatting) and are clearly, at best, derivatives. I'm not a legal expert, but I think the lack of attribution would pose a copyright issue. All content on Wikipedia is licensed, not just articles. Adam9007 (talk) 23:58, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Adam9007 - I don't think that it does. I can't "copyright" any of that content on my user and user talk pages because of Wikipedia's policy against ownership of content. I think that this is also mentioned on Wikipedia's policies regarding user pages. Let me know if you find a policy or guideline that states differently. In the end, we're simply talking about the look and color of someone's user page headers... in comparison to the other violations I see on Wikipedia, I think there's bigger fish to fry (even if this is somehow a policy violation somewhere). Let me know what you find. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:03, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
WP:OWN is about personal ownership, not legal ownership. All content posted here is copyrighted, automatically. That content is licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0. Those who copy Wikipedia content without satisfying the terms of that licence are in violation of copyright. I think WP:CWW applies, but again, I'm no expert. Adam9007 (talk) 00:06, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
I'm not expert either... lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:10, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Well, maybe a talk page stalker who is an expert will clarify this :). Adam9007 (talk) 00:14, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Indeed! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:15, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Warning regarding changes

You messaged me two months back, charging me with vandalism. The changes that you attributed to me were not made by me. I will state it again, that I did not make any changes on the pages where i am accused of doing so. Hope you will look into it and will not threaten me with the ban. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.14.122.218 (talk) 07:37, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

(talk page gnome) Those edits were likely made by another person then. Dynamic IP addresses get reassigned. If you would like to edit and maintain your own private edit history (with various other advantages), I recommend creating an account. If not, you may simply clean the page of old messages. You are unlikely to get sanctioned for warnings issued months ago. I hope this helps, —PaleoNeonate – 08:53, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi there! As PaleoNeonate stated above, this is most likely due to using a dynamic or shared IP address or internet connection. The best way to avoid being given warnings and blocks due to edits that you didn't make is to create an account and use your account each time you wish to edit Wikipedia. This way, the edits are attributed to your account rather than your IP address, which will resolve the issue. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks for the message and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:47, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

A beer for you!

For your eagerness to help others, including me, when they need it. i have learned a lot from you and this is a mark of my gratitude to you. Take care. ---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 10:28, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Wikaviani! Thanks for the beer and for the gratitude and kind words! I really appreciate it, and I'm very happy to hear that what I do here is making a positive impact upon you and that you're learning from what you see me do. As you probably already know, Wikipedia can use more kind and helpful editors around here - the more we have, the better! Thanks again, and I hope you have a great rest of your day. Until we meet again.... ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:49, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Userspace delete request

Hey Oshwah, could you delete User:Mlpearc/EditCounterOptIn.js as U1, it's a redirect to User:FlightTime/EditCounterOptIn.js. I've lost the password to the old account and I'm working on removing all my rename redirects. Thanx, - FlightTime (open channel) 00:14, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Actually I just got my reset password email and now have access to my old account, but I rather not log an edit using the old account if I can avoid it, but if you feel better having me tag it U1, we can go that way, let me know. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 00:43, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi FlightTime! I'll go ahead and just delete it for you. Let me know if you need anything else and I'll be happy to help! Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:51, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
FlightTime -  Done. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:53, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Thax, much appreciated  :) - FlightTime (open channel) 00:54, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
You bet :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:55, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
FlightTime - I noticed that you have a bunch of other pages within your old user space as well (see this search I pulled) - do you want me to delete those for you? Or do you still need to go through them and make sure everything is copied over first? Let me know. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:01, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
If you want, If it's tagged U1 I'm done with it, I've been checking "what links here" most are clear, except some very old archive links and a couple userboxes I've created, the ones I tagged are clear of incoming links. - FlightTime (open channel) 01:06, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
FlightTime - I deleted the ones I found by looking at your recent contributions. Let me know if I can do anything else for you :-). Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:28, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you again for your help. Don't you ever sleep ? or maybe you can edit in your sleep :P I have a few more .css and .js redirects I no longer need, if (no rush) you could delete them for me, it would be, again, appreciated.

FlightTime -  Done. Let me know if I can do anything else for you :-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:51, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Recent edit of Origin of the Kurds page

Hi Oshwah The recent edit of the Origin of the Kurds page was not a test. I just added Middle Persian Unicode font for the term in the Name section. I'm still new to Wikipedia editing so if I did anything wrong please correct me.

M.a.togidubnus (talk) 04:16, 10 September 2018 (UTC)M.a.togidubnusM.a.togidubnus (talk) 04:16, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi M.a.togidubnus! Thanks for leaving me a message and for explaining your edit to Origin of the Kurds. I went ahead and restored your change to the article and it should be live now. I've also removed the warning I left on your user talk page. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help you with anything else. I apologize for the confusion regarding your edit. In the future, you'll want to explain your edits using the edit summary field. It will allow other editors to easily understand what you're doing and why, and it'll avoid confusion in the future (like this... lol). If you haven't done so already, I also recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be helpful to you. Most users who take this advice tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-). Pramod Kharel

Greetings

Pramod Kharel is one of the most popular Nepalese singers of the current generation. Currently he is a judge at The Voice of Nepal. He is Notable enough to create his article. Please review and change protection for creation. Thanks. [9]*[10]*[11]*[12]--~Binod~(talk) 06:25, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Binod Basnet! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your request. To make this an official request, lets have you add a request for protection removal to this page. This way, we have it logged in the proper noticeboard in case others have questions or want to see it. I personally don't any opposition to removing the protection for you, but we should request it in case there are concerns. Let me know if I can do anything else for you and I'll be happy to help! Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:29, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you so much Oshwah for your help. I will do as you said. Thanks again. --~Binod~(talk) 06:50, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Abelmoschus Esculentus. The user's last response to you seemed a bit snappy. I'm going to hold off and keep eyes on things for now. If things become disruptive or if an edit war appears to be getting started, let me know and I'll be happy to take another look. I'll be watching the user as well, but as you probably already know, I tend to get sidetracked with other requests and other disruption that needs to be resolved, so you'll most likely catch further issues before I do :-). Costs and consequences of the national debt.

I realize it's not winning any awards for best help desk question of 2018, but it was a question ostensibly about Wikipedia, and can be answered in a way that's on-topic (seeing as how we just edit conflicted with my answer there). Also not sure I understand why revdel is necessary for a somewhat meandering question about government debt. GMGtalk 14:32, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

GreenMeansGo - Thanks for letting me know. I'll take another look... I could have sworn that I didn't see any questions within those edits. For being the admin I know most dedicated to helping out other editors. I've nothing in particular in mind, I just watch your talk page and notice. One of these days, I'm going to paint a heroic janitor, and he's going to have your face. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 14:51, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi MPants at work! Thanks you for the message and for the kind words :-). You're very welcome! Part of being a good admin (in my opinion) is to think of yourself (or, myself) as one who exists below all others as a humble servant, who makes sure those who need help receive it, and who does what they feel is the right thing to do when you're called upon to take administrative actions. Apart from having literally a few extra buttons available to push, we're nobody different... we just need to promote users who will treat adminship the same way as the admins who are well-known and respected on Wikipedia treat it. And that painting sounds absolutely epic. Let me know when you finish it and send me a picture! :-P ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:06, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Special Barnstar
I don't think anybody would stop by to arrange warnings on a talk page . Thanks . Kpgjhpjm 15:24, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Kpgjhpjm! Thanks for the barnstar! It means a lot to me! Oh yes... this user :-). After I reverted the user's last edit, I saw that you had reverted the user's previous edit but no warning was left, so I left a level 3 warning to cover both edits. And after saving the warning, I saw that you had left your warning afterwards - so I figured the right thing to do was rearrange them to make better sense. I thought that removing your warning would've sent the message that you did something wrong, which you didn't. So that's what I did and why I did it :-). I try to fix things as I see them. I'm not perfect and I'm sure that I don't catch everything... but I do try! Thanks again for the barnstar and for your time and dedication to Wikipedia and patrolling recent changes - it's a thankless task to take on, and I want you to know that it doesn't go unnoticed and that we appreciate your hard work. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:30, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
@Oshwah: You are probably the Wikipedian who does the most work here . When I go through the recent changes log , I always see you , once reverting vandalism, the next minute doing administrative tasks and the next minute improving articles. I don't think anybody else does that :-) 👍 . Kpgjhpjm 15:37, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Kpgjhpjm - HA! Thank you :-). There are a lot of good editors and admins who I believe do a lot more work (and a lot harder work) than I do... my edits just frequently show up on the recent changes feed because many (if not most of them) are automated... lol. So, I'm kinda cheating in that regard ;-). Nonetheless, I appreciate your kind words very much and I truly take them to heart; they mean a lot to me :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:49, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Rinku Bansallll - I think you're confusing the block I made. The block was made to a user account because the chosen username was in violation of Wikipedia's username policy. This did not "block" any articles or pages. Since you're new here, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be helpful to you (including article creation, what you're asking for help with here). Most users who take this advice tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them. I should also let you know that creating or editing articles where you have a personal conflict of interest with the article subject is highly discouraged behavior and will almost certainly result in those changes being removed or deleted by other editors. Please also know that Wikipedia is not a place for advertising or promotion. Edits that appear as such will be removed. Please follow my advice and go through the new user tutorial I linked you to - it will help you to understand how Wikipedia works and will help you avoid wasting hours of time attempting to write, edit, or create content for those changes to end up being removed. Thanks, and welcome to Wikipedia! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:54, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Matt Dillahuntys full name

Hello Oshwah,

sorry, if you deleted my earlier talk addition because I didnt sign it. I will do it here.

My question still is why you reverted my changes to his page without further reason given despite me adding an undeniable source. Is it because we cant be sure how "Wade" is spelt?

Take care, Dennis

84.131.130.77 (talk) 17:57, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! I don't believe you left a message here earlier - I would've seen it if you had done so... no worries though. Looking at your two edits here and here to Matt Dillahunty, I don't see where the addition of this person's middle name is referenced within the article, nor do I see where you added an "undeniable source" as you describe above - can you please elaborate further? If I missed something, let me know and point me to the reference so I can help you cite it properly and make sure the content is accurate. Thanks for the message, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I'll await your response with more information so that I can help you. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:01, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Ahh, I just saw what you're referring to. You added the source you found to your edit summary on this edit. What we need to do with any references we find is to make sure that they're deemed as reliable (in this case, a youtube video might not work), and then cite it in-line with the content you're changing. This is what I was looking for with your edits to Matt Dillahunty (and I owe you my apologies for not seeing the source in your edit summary, else I would've helped you sooner). These two things are what you need to do in order to properly add the content you're changing and do so properly in order to assert verifiability and that the changes are legitimate and accurate. If you have any questions after reading through the two guidelines pages I linked you to, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message, and I hope my response here was helpful. Those two pages are what you need to review. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:08, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Time saver

Hi Oshwah. Thanks for that thing. I don't know if you remember this from before. If you see much more of that coming from Macau (ctm.net), I've been previously happy to slap around some extensive range blocks.eg -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:09, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Zzuuzz - No problem ;-). This definitely rings a bell and I do remember... and good call on the range - I was just about to start going through my contribs and logs to see if I couldn't find that out. Will know more soon, hopefully :-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:12, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Zzuuzz - And sure enough, look what I found when going through my block log just now: 180.94.128.0/18. The range is now blocked ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:17, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Spot on. There's about six ranges, IIRC, and the ASN records are quite useful in finding them. One's here. I might put a list together one day.. -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:23, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Agreed - ASN registration records are indeed very useful in situations like this. Haha, yup... "I'll do that one day" is unfortunately what I say to myself a lot in regards to improvements and other things here. My "to do" list with those kinds of things got corrupted long ago due to being too large ;-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:28, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Zzuuzz: Last time around I went through [a list that I found on an apparently spam-blacklisted site] and found what I think are all the ranges owned by CTM Macau:
* 27.109.128.0/17
* 60.246.0.0/16
* 103.233.188.0/22
* 113.52.64.0/18
* 122.100.128.0/17
* 125.31.0.0/18
* 180.94.128.0/18
* 182.93.0.0/18
* 202.175.0.0/17
* 202.175.160.0/19
* 202.86.128.0/18
...but I suppose blocking the only ISP in a country could get ... political? Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 19:35, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Suffusion of Yellow - Thanks for the list :-). If it's an entire country or a range with a high number of collateral damage, we try to look on a case-by-case basis before blocking so that we don't lock good people out ;-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:11, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
FYI, Widr just blocked 122.100.128.0/17 for three months. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 16:34, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Suffusion of Yellow - Cool deal; thanks for the heads up. I also blocked some other ranges that I ran into as well; hopefully this will put a stop to the disruption. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:38, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Connorguy99 - Soaper1234's edit to the article was to different content and didn't seem to involve the content in dispute. Why do you believe that the edit constituted edit warring? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:52, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Connorguy99, Soaper1234 - To keep everyone honest and to stop the finger pointing, I've applied full protection to the article. Now you both can focus on the dispute at-hand and work together to resolve it :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:54, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

A follow-up

Hi Oshwah, hope you're well, and had a great summer! I'm following up on a conversation we had back in June, about an editor refusing to discuss reverts in the Kanafeh article. She disappeared but is now back to repeatedly deleting all my edits (and everyone else's) and refusing to communicate in any way. I'm fairly new to the article, but it seems to have a long history of edit warring about national origins, which she has played a large part in, though she has never participated in any of the discussions about it on the talk page. Basically she's ticked all the boxes in WP:DISRUPTSIGNS for this article. I was planning to file an ANI report, but I thought I'd check in with you first, since you were kind enough to advise me about the situation earlier.

To summarize:

 • On June 17 I started work to improve the article and its sources. I worked on it over a week or so, removing poor sources and adding a whole new well-sourced History section, etc.
 • On June 27 she reverted everything by restoring to the June 17 version Special:Diff/847755943/847809872 "Spelling/grammar correction".
 • I undid her revert, asking to explain and discuss on the talk page, where I had already started a section about it.
 • I then also left a message on her talk page, Special:Diff/846092666/847829940.
 • Her response the next day was instead to immediately revert again, Special:Diff/847825213/847933590 "Removing unsourced content", though as you pointed out last time, that was clearly not the case.
 • I added another comment to the article's talk page again asking her to discuss, and I pinged her, Special:Diff/847415237/848082558.
 • I didn't hear anything, so after discussing it with you, I restored my edits and kept working on it over the summer.
 • A couple of days ago she returned, and reverted once again back to her old June 17 version, Special:Diff/856962730/858680374, without comment.

At this point I guess me templating her isn't going to have much effect, since she's clearly not interested in anything I say, so my next step would be to file an ANI report. Unless you have another suggestion? Thanks! --IamNotU (talk) 02:01, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi IamNotU! Ahh yes, I do remember this discussion. I reverted the user's edit to the article and asked them to discuss it with you on the article's talk page and that you disagree with the changes. I'm hoping that this is what the user does. Please start a new discussion with your concerns there and ping the user so they can respond and discuss. If they don't do so, or if they revert the article again - I would say that you're within your rights to file an ANI to get community input. Let me know how it goes! Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:07, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Ok, thanks a lot for looking into it! I'll let you know what happens... --IamNotU (talk) 02:24, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
IamNotU - No problem; I hope things work out either way. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:25, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Help

Hi Oshwah Thanks for flagging down inappropriate links, I am new to Wikipedia editing and am learning

I wish to add a Wikipedia page about the good work our organization is doing for students in India and the sub-continent, Can you help me with that

Thanks Kanav Kanav Sachdeva (talk) 08:36, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Founderkanav, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your request for help. Since you're new here, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be very helpful to you (including article creation, what you're asking for help with here). Most users who take this advice tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them to go through that tutorial, so definitely do so :-).
While you're here, I should also take a moment to explain a few policies and guidelines and set some expectations with you before you start making any edits. You should know that creating or editing articles on Wikipedia where you have a personal conflict of interest with the article subject is highly discouraged behavior and will almost certainly result in those changes being removed or deleted by other editors. Please also know that Wikipedia is not a place for advertising or promotion, and any edits that add content written in this manner will be removed. Please follow my advice and go through the new user tutorial I linked you to - it will help you to understand how Wikipedia works and will help to set more expectations so that you won't potentially spend hours of time writing, editing, or creating content and have it be completely wasted after they end up being removed or deleted by other editors. Thanks again for the message, I welcome you to Wikipedia, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:45, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

About Indonesian all time medal in Asian Games

Dear Oshwah,

I am Dyonisius Dony from Indonesia. I believe there is a mistake in Indonesian all time medal because there is a mistake in the table with respect to the medal that Indonesian has obtained in Asian Games 1974. In the page "Indonesia_at_the_Asian_Games", it is mentioned in the table that Indonesia was in the 5th position with 15 gold 14 silvers and 17 bronze. However, if you check the wikipedia page with the title "1974 Asian Games medal table", it has been mentioned there that Indonesia in in the 9th position with 3 gold 4 silver and 4 bronze. In fact, it is mentioned there North Korea is the one with 15 gold 14 silvers and 17 bronze (5th position). Would you please correct the error in the page "Indonesia_at_the_Asian_Games? I have corrected before but someone has reverted again. It is also inconsistent with page Indonesia at the 1974 Asian Games, which list only three Indonesian gold medalist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dyonisius.dony (talkcontribs) 10:22, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dyonisius.dony! Is All-time Asian Games medal table the article that you're referring to? The one you believe has inaccurate data? You're able to edit the page and fix it yourself; you don't need to ask for approval or have someone do it for you... We encourage you on Wikipedia to be bold - make the edits that you think need to be made; fix content, improve data, and make something better! It's perfectly fine to do. You'll of course receive feedback, help with policies and guidelines, and many more things as you get more proficient here - but you don't have to fear any red tape or that people will come down on you... even if you make mistakes. If you find that you're having trouble with updating the article, let me know and I'll be glad to see what I can do. Thanks for the message, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:37, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

G5

Hello again Oshwah. Is tagging a user page or user talk page created by a banned user with G5 necessary? —AE (talkcontributions) 13:59, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Abelmoschus Esculentus - G5 applies when someone creates a page in violation of their block or ban. So if I create an article, and then I get blocked later, G5 wouldn't apply. It applies if I were to be blocked indefinitely, then create a sock puppet account, and then use that sock account to create pages. I'm creating them in violation of my block or ban - hence G5 applies. I'd say use your common sense - it's not imperative that you tag everything a sock created as G5, but we typically do. It's been discussed many times and is still the subject of controversy and debate if a sock user creates a good article that's extremely well-written and we figure out later that they're a sock puppet - do we delete this good content because it was created by a sock? That's a grey area you may run into... Of course, troll pages, user pages, other pages made by socks can be G5'd without question. Like I said, use your due diligence and apply them where you see them. Let me know if you have any more questions about this, and I'll be happy to answer them. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:06, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I actually mean "created by sock of banned user". Sorry for wasting your time typing the first few sentences :) —AE (talkcontributions) 14:17, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Abelmoschus Esculentus - Apologies are not needed. I figured you knew that part already, but I wanted to explain it anyways as many users who ask about G5 tend to get the meaning and proper use of it confused. Just covering all my bases ;-). Let me know if I can do anything else for you and I'll be happy to do so :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:20, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Dickapedia? (Yes, I know how weird that looks)

I was looking at this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive363#I_deleted_the_Main_Page. I saw something about Wikipedia being changed to Dickapedia. But I can't find any other info on it. Do you have any idea what happend?Lakeside Out!-LakesideMinersClick Here To Talk To Me! 17:37, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi LakesideMiners! Good question - I have no idea about that at all. From how it's worded, it sounds like someone changed the text on either the main page or another page to say "Dickipiedia" instead of "Wikipedia"? Fun fact: You actually cannot delete the main page anymore like you could in the past. The WikiMedia software no longer allows it after a release update was deployed here. No more main page accidents (hopefully) :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:47, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Another fun fact: this only applies to the English Wikipedia. The developers assumed that other wikis would be “able to manage themselves.” —AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 19:51, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Revision Delete Request on Greta Gerwig and Procter & Gamble

I just reverted a change on Greta Gerwig [[REDACTED - Oshwah] here] that had "this is not a controversy. only the pro-israel goons on wikipedia are obsessed with judging non-jews with a zionist litmus test" on the revision comment. I've reverted the change, asked the user to take it to the talk page, and warned them about using that sort of phrasing in the revision history.

Could you scrub the comment from revision history?

Thanks.

Pocahontas

I've recently found out that I am a descendant of Pocahontas and her family, and related to both Captain John Smith and John Rolfe. I would like to ask that the cartoon photo be changed to the full length portrait, as she was and always will be a human being, not a cartoon image. I am asking this of Wikipedia, as a First Nation's person with ties to the original colonists, the Indigenous/"Indians"/Native/First Nations/Aboriginal of North America have suffered long enough from negative treatment. The cartoon image of Pocahontas, used in the Disney movie, was created by drawing the image from a Japanese model. The actual Royal Portrait of Pocahontas is the truest version, and the truest version of my ancestor should be used, not a cartoon or sketch. Thank you for any help you may provide to right this wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:1970:4CA6:7100:544F:5838:C749:6DCB (talk) 03:36, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Oshwah may be busy at the moment, so perhaps I could assist you? I looked at the main article on Pocahontas, and the Disney image is not used in that article. Could you tell us which article you are referring to? Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 04:15, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) If you are perhaps referring to the results of a Google search, (which, when I just did it, displayed a cartoon image) Wikipedia has no control over what Google displays therein; although the way in which it is presented somewhat implies that it comes from Wikipedia. There is a feedback link at the base of the information summary in the Google page. Eagleash (talk) 05:14, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi there! As both BilCat and Eagleash have said - I'm not exactly clear on what you're referring to exactly... can you elaborate please? Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:40, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Iamheentity - Notability isn't something that can be changed or saved because of the article's content. You need to review Wikipedia's policy on notability in order to understand it fully. Preferably, you should go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial, as it will provide you with many guides, walkthroughs, and assistance. Please read the policy page and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial and let me know if you have any more questions after you've done so. Your edit / rearranging /deleting content

Hi Oshwah, on 10 September 2018 you did a lot of work rearranging the filmography table of my page plus other edits. I thank you for paying attention to it. Nevertheless I want to call your attention for the case that your new edit mixed 2 different concepts. A filmography is a list of films (in this case of a Director) When the same director has been "Director of a TV Channel" in his professional career (as it is the case) by commissioning films, series and programmes to other directors those films/series/programmes can not be attributed to him as a Director. This is the reason to have a different table (with a specific title: "As Director of TVE-2" that makes the difference). Mixing both might create a conflict with the authorship of the commissioned Directors who must be credited as well.

TV Series with multiple film episodes must be named by the Series title (first and at the top) and the title of the episode below (+date, different directors if it's the case etc.) That's the reason to create a different table in Filmography: TV Series...title, etc

Another issue: Awards and Nominations "unreferenced" deleted. I remember to have the refs. probably not all of them. I think you could ask for filling/insert those refs.

Early Animation works was also deleted. This a an issue that compose/help the history of cinema in some countries and can be widely referenced and/or verified in the web. I'd ask you kindly to consider it or to put it for discussion

It makes me feel uncomfortable to say all this to you after the time and work you invested organizing the Filmography table.

I'd like to invite you to consider a revision of all of it and/or discuss it with me directly.

Many thanks for your interest and work.

Olde English Bulldogs

Hi,

I am a new wikipedian, but I take this very seriously. It is why I only edit/ create pages that I am 100% certain about.

I saw all my edits being reverted and I am not sure what I should do. Should I put it back? I am not certain if there is people who has more "veto power" than others. I know some people are using wikipedia as a commercial tool and I am not certain if this is the case here, but it could be dangerous to allow it to be.

How those it work when there is a conflict of information even when references are provided?

I would appreciate some guidance, if you have the time.

Thanks a lot!

Inactive and sad

Hi. I sadly found out that WP:WikiProject Literature is inactive, which is kind of concerning too, given that literature is a major subject. Is there any way to promote wikiprojects? Thinker78 (talk) 04:59, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Thinker78! Good question - I think this question would be best asked at Wikipedia's help desk. They'll be able to either point to a location to talk about it, or point you to a similar or newer project about literature. Let me know if I can help you with anything else and I'll be happy to do so. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:02, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

COI editing, potential sockpuppetry

Hello, I am not sure where to take this (or even whether should this be taken anywhere) so I thought I'd ask a more experienced person first. When browsing AfD's, I noticed this article about a person. Then I quickly noticed that the person with same exact name as the subject of the article has done a lot of recent edits to it, as well as trying to vote "Keep" in related AfD and also trying to berate the person who nominated this article for deletion by pointing out that the nominating person was "banned on Russian Wikipedia" (also appear to engage in WP:CANVAS by making this edit and admitting that the article for AfD is about him)... I have also noticed that the article was originally created by user Commandos-rus who had suspicious amount of edits related to the subject of the article and who has ceased activity shortly after User:Nikolai Kurbatov account was created. So long story short: a person seem to have created an article about himself under one username, stopped using that old username, created another username and is now continuing to edit the same article about himself (as well as trying to prevent the AfD of this article from passing). What should be done about such user? A warning and a strike of his vote at AfD? Omgwtfbbqsomethingrandom (talk) 19:33, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Omgwtfbbqsomethingrandom - Have you filed a report at SPI about this? If not, you should do so and supply as much in-depth evidence via diffs as you can. Let me know if you need help with this and I'll be happy to do so. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:49, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Concern Regarding Mahabharata pages

Hi, I am a researcher of the Hindu epic Mahabharata, because of which I frequent the Wiki pages of the topic and its relevant characters. I have created my account today to address a serious issue regarding the topic. Off late, I have been noticing frequent vandalism in the pages of Abhimanyu, Draupadi, Karna, Arjun, etc. I checked the edit logs and discovered that a certain group of disruptive users with IDs like - KarnaArjun1, KarnaArjun3, KARNAARJUN, KingPorus, VIKRAMVEDA, , KARNASANGINI, evilArjun, etc are constantly deleting large chunks of extremely well-researched sourced information along with their references, and instead entering biased misinformation with wrong grammar. Being a researcher on the topic myself, it was easier for me to verify the authenticity. You may check the edit logs of the pages mentioned above.

Admins have intervened multiple times and blocked these notorious users but they seem to be creating multiple accounts and repeating this. This kind of vandalism has begun in the past couple of months. It is difficult to say whether they belong to one user or group of users who are operating together to vandalize the pages.

Nonetheless, currently these disturbing users are blocked. As a result, their disruptive changes have been reverted and the pages mentioned above look good with correct information. However, given the pattern, it would not be surprising if they come back to vandalize again.

I would request admins to look into the matter and do the needful to prevent any kind of vandalism in the future.

Thanks again for the message and the information, please excuse my delay responding to you here, and have a great rest of your day :-). Dear Oshwah, this is again "Your edit / rearranging /deleting content"

Hi Oshwah, many thanks for your suggestion recommending me to go through new user tutorial. I did it, so my homework is done and I enjoyed it a lot. Nevertheless, my concerns continue to be the same I've explained in my previous e-mail to you:

1- the wrong mix of tables with different concepts explained in my upper user-talk question to you.

2- receive your response to my e-mail proposal: "A possible solution if you have no time to do so: I can revert your edit to the previous version and carefully correct the issues-differences- of the Filmography table you rearranged. For that, I'd like to receive your agreement. I won't do it without it. Is that OK with you?"

Thanks for your kind message, wishing you all the best. Enrique Nicanor (talk) 19:17, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Enrique Nicanor - I apologize for the delay responding to your messages. I'm just now getting all caught up with my messages and emails here :-). Sounds fine to me; go ahead and fix the tables as you see fit (though I have concerns). Just keep Wikipedia's policies and guidelines in mind (specifically, conflict of interest, advertising / promotion, autobiographies, and neutral point of view); listing a bunch of information about every film, episode, movie, etc. like that can cross the line from being a neutral article and into the territory of feeling worded and constructed like an advertisement. This is why I removed the content and combined the tables in the manner that I did. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:13, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi! So can you give me some feedback here? I mean like if I am doing everything fine. Unfortunately, I am not a very good content creator and so have less edits to improving articles (except a few ones), and most of my edits revolve around maintenance area. Regards, Knightrises10 (talk) 14:08, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Knightrises10! Thanks for responding here so that I can go over your request for input and feedback on-wiki :-). First and foremost, you should never think that you're "not doing fine" here just because you're interested and choose to improve the project in areas that involve maintenance and what's nicknamed as being a "WikiGnome". I will tell you, loud and proud, that your contributions are important and that your time and energy mean just as much to the project and are just as necessary as those who choose to create and expand content. Don't allow others to tell you differently, and don't put yourself into the unfair and impossible position of comparing yourself like that to others. You should contribute and volunteer your time to Wikipedia and the project because you want to (obviously), but going further - you should contribute and improve Wikipedia in areas that you're interested in and have a passion for. If we expected you to do otherwise and contribute to areas that you don't enjoy, that would be a ridiculously stupid and silly thing for us to do. You wouldn't have a passion in those "other areas", so the quality and care of your contributions there would obviously tank, you wouldn't have any kind of desire to grow and become more experienced, since you're feeling stuck and having to contribute in areas you don't enjoy... and (worst of all) we probably wouldn't see you here after awhile... you'd stop having fun here, your passion and your desire would burn dry, and you'd be outta here. Why on Earth would we want you to do that? Why on Earth would we want you to feel that way?
Shoot, look at my contributions here... I'd say that at least 85% of my total edits are from recent changes patrolling and reverting vandalism, trolling, and other disruption. I'm not much of a content creator either... I'll occasionally run into a few articles that have reference errors, template issues, or content that needs fixing or clean-up, and I'll take some time and help expand, fix, or clean up whatever needs to be done... but I'm certainly no author or prestigious editor here when it comes to content or article creation or expansion. I have two Good Articles under my belt (one of which I contributed most of the content to but it's pretty damn small) that I accomplished 3+ years back, but if you look at them... I mean, sure, they're referenced, worded, and aren't terrible articles... they meet the criteria... but they're certainly not great or immaculate... Other than a topicon and in a list near the bottom of my user page, they're not much to brag about or "put on the fridge for all to see"... lol.
My point is that you're doing fine. Do you enjoy where you're contributing to? Do you enjoy those maintenance areas? If so, then that's all that you need to worry about. If you're not enjoying the projects, areas, or places you're contributing to here, then we gotta fix that! We gotta set you up in a place that you do enjoy and that you'll contribute to, care about, and grow as an editor and gain experience from. In the end, you need to enjoy the time you're giving voluntarily to Wikipedia and enjoy what you're doing here... otherwise, what's the god damn point, right? :-) If you're worried because you feel that you're contributing in the "wrong areas" or that you're "not doing enough" or "not being a good contributor", please don't... because if you really do feel this way, I'd like to know why and I'd like to know exactly who or where is causing you or making you feel this way... because that's not fair to you.
You want my overall "big picture" advice that you should follow in the long-term here? Sure, that's easy: The best thing you can do here for both yourself and for Wikipedia is to contribute and focus on areas that you enjoy, are passionate about, and will keep you coming back to Wikipedia to do more. Lose the worry, fear, or the need to compare yourself to other editors and their contributions. Look at where you are now - What kind of editor would you like to be someday? Where would you like to see yourself contributing to or working as in the future? What are your long-term goals? What will keep you enjoying the time you spend here and feeling like you're doing something fun as well as something good for the world? You may want to someday work in SPI (where we locate and identify sock puppet users), or maybe you'd like to see yourself as a developer of a Wikipedia bot or a Wikimedia labs tool. Set some goals for yourself, but don't set any timelines. The point of long-term goals isn't to give yourself growing pains and stress, and it isn't to force yourself to jump into any roles or new places on Wikipedia quickly; it's to set a direction for yourself so that when the time is right and when you've accomplished and grown from the contributions you enjoy, you'll move naturally into these new areas or places and it'll feel like a completely smooth transition for everybody.
I hope that my response here helped take the unnecessary stress and weight you're putting on your own shoulders, helped you to stop the worry and to focus on what you love, you enjoy, and what you want to do on Wikipedia, gave you a place and a direction to begin or continue working toward, and helped clear and ambiguity or confusion as to your importance and your place here in the big picture. If you have any questions, need more input, coaching, or advice, or if you need my help with anything else - my talk page is always open to you and you're welcome to message me here any time you'd like. Keep up the great work you're doing and happy editing to you! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:05, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Hey, thanks a lot for a great reply. I don't think I could have got something better. I really appreciate it and will continue with what interests me [mainly countering vandalism and reviewing new pages (tagging for Afds and CSDs when necessary since I am not a reviewer)]. Once again, thanks for being so helpful! Now I know why you are really appreciated a lot by a large number of other users :) Knightrises10 (talk) 15:52, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
By the way, can you provide some useful links where I can learn more about NPPs? Thanks, Knightrises10 (talk) 16:48, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Knightrises10 - You bet! Always happy to help :-). Sure, have you seen the pages listed here (under the "Essential further reading" section)? Those pages should provide you some useful information and tools to help you out. Give those pages a read-through and let me know if that's what you were looking for. If not, let me know what you're looking to find and what kinds of pages would help you and I'll be happy to do some more digging for you ;-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:57, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Oh, thanks :) I think they'll be good for a read. What about that new page patrol/school? Can it be more helpful? Knightrises10 (talk) 17:04, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Knightrises10 - No problem ;-). Good question; if you're interested, you should sign up and go through the "school". After you complete it, you'll have the experience of recently going through the process and after some more proficiency and experience, you'll be able to tell us how that page could be more helpful and how we can make it better ;-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:36, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
I'll sign up whenever a trainer is free. One of them has no slot, while the other is busy (according to their talk page) - Knightrises10 (talk) 17:43, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
And why do many people think that participating less in content creation (or participating more in maintenance areas) is actually a sign of hat-collecting? Knightrises10 (talk) 10:03, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Knightrises10 - HA... HAHA... HAHAHA!! HAHAHAAA!! Oh... I so, so, so wish that I knew the answer to that question... I have absolutely no idea. Where exactly are you seeing that this is being said or expressed to someone? Whose making that claim and saying that? Can you point me to where you're getting this idea or this concept from? I'm actually very curious and interested in looking at where you're seeing this happening at... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:08, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Seen a lot at some users' talk pages, and I was said the same once when I made a few mistakes in some places. :p Knightrises10 (talk) 10:21, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Knightrises10 - Somebody is leaving messages on other editors' user talk pages and telling them that because they made a few good faith mistakes and because their edits focus in areas not directly involving content creation that they're hat collecting? Is it because they requested user rights or permissions? Can you point me to someone's talk page where you see this happening? I'd be very much interested in possibly adding to that discussion..... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:26, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
It was an old discussion. I don't remember about that talk page now :) Knightrises10 (talk) 10:30, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Knightrises10 - Ah, alright fair enough. Just keep in mind that the "hat collecting because you're not a content creator" idea is absolute and complete nonsense. Don't let anyone try to tell you differently. Sure, there are some user rights and projects that will require editors to first have experience and a consistent record with contributing in certain areas before they can join or be granted the ability to use them, but that's different than being called a "hat collector" because you're not contributing to specific areas that someone thinks is "better". That kind of mindset is toxic to this project and anyone who wants to have fun, grow a positive and respectful community and culture, and treat others respectfully and feel appreciated, wanted, encouraged to grow and move up in experience. It's disappointing to see such negative and poisonous ideas being developed and spread to other users and leaving them feeling otherwise... :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:45, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

IP:83.166.175.18

Hello Oshwah, Trust you are well. Some time back you blocked IP 83.166.175.18 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) for vandalism. Unfortunately, they appear to be back with vandalism on the Durdle Door article. I have reverted their vandalism, but think a longer block may be neccessary? With best regards, David, David J Johnson (talk) 12:09, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Usually a longer block is endorsed when the IP has been blocked before. Report them to AIV and make use you properly warn them. Regards, —AE (talkcontributions) 12:41, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
Please don't lecture me. I have been on Wikipedia quite long enough to know procedure. The reason I have contributed here is that Oshwah has been involved before and I consider him to be a valued colleague. Regards, David J Johnson (talk) 13:05, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Oshwah is not available 24/7. WP:AIV is the best place. If you have been on Wikipedia for quite long, you would know that lifting the duration of a block after each release is a common practice. —AE (talkcontributions) 13:18, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi David J Johnson! It's good to talk to you again - I hope things are going well for you and that your day is going well. Please accept my apologies for the delay responding to your message here. Real life kept me busy for a little while, and I'm just now catching up with all of the Wikipedia messages and emails that have piled up ;-). It looks like the IP address hasn't engaged in any more disruption since the 19th of September, so I'm going to hold off for now regarding any action. If that changes and if things pick up again or if the IP resumes their usual shenanigans, let me know and I'll be happy to take another look. Thanks again for the message and I apologize again for the delay getting back to you. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:49, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Hello Oshwah, Many thanks for your reply. As there have been no further vandalism, I do agree with your comments. Real life is keeping me busy too. Sorry about all the pointless dross that followed by original request, I've been here long enough not to require that! Best regards, David, David J Johnson (talk) 10:30, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
David J Johnson - No worries; just know that they were just trying to help... I maintain a "no judgement, no lecturing, no condescending or snippy passive-aggressive attitude, etc. atmosphere here" and those who stalk here are aware of this. They're either being mentored and trained by me to assist others, are experienced and try to help out while I'm away, or are new themselves and want to give back... just give em some positive feedback; they'll learn and they'll improve! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:29, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Page deleted

Hi Oshwah,

Hope you are doing well. I was helping Friendship Place with their official website content and wikipedia page as a volunteer for the NGO. I did use the same content for each, which I understand from your message isn't allowed even if the material is mine. Where I will rewrite the content, can you please warn me of any other precautions I must take for the Wikipedia page so it gets approved the next time? I used a few other NGO wikipedia pages as examples for the cause, is there an ideal wikipedia page for some NGO which I may use as a benchmark for my future draft?

Thanks in advance for all the assistance and sorry the first draft didn't work out.

Hi HiraShaukat91, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a message with your request for help and with the information you provided. Have you gone through and completed Wikipedia's new user tutorial? If you haven't, I highly recommend that you go through and complete the entire tutorial before you do anything else. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be helpful to you (including article creation, what you're asking for help with here). Most users who take this advice tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them.
After you've completed the entire tutorial, you should review Wikipedia's policies and guidelines regarding conflict of interest, advertising or promotion, as well as Wikipedia's policies regarding Copyright and paraphrasing content. These pages will explain any information further that might not have been explained in-depth in the new user tutorial. If you have any more questions after completing the tutorial and after reviewing the pages I've linked you to here, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them and help you further. Thanks again for the message and I wish you good luck and happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:34, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! I believe that you're referring to the rangeblock that was placed on 120.17.192.0/19. If you look at the contributions from this range, you'll see a history of abuse from this range back in August 2018 and earlier. This is why this range (as well as a few other ranges) were blocked like this - they were all engaging in the same disruption. If you request an account and use one to edit Wikipedia, you won't have issues with these kinds of blocks in the future, as the blocks placed only disallow anonymous editing. Those who sign in with an existing account from these IP ranges will be able to edit as usual and without any issues. If you have any questions or further issues or concerns, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you. Thank you for the message and for the feedback - we always try our best to limit any collateral damage, keep editing interruptions to a minimum, limit the range and duration of blocks as much as possible, and keep inconveniences like this as minimal as possible... however, no situations are alike, and no remedy in this kind of situation is a silver bullet. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:20, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Username Recovery

Hi, It's me again! Could you change User:The garmine's name to something else? I don't care what it is, just let me know once it's done, so i can re-register under my old name.

On the other hand, If you can't do that, I will (eventually) Think up a different username. Thanks!
96.41.142.170 (talk) 03:39, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi there! I'm not a global renamer, so I don't have the ability to do this for you. Does this account belong to you? Are you having issues with accessing the account? You should try resetting the password to the account if you haven't already done so. If you don't have an email address registered to that account, the password won't be able to be recovered unless you remember what it is. Since the username you wish to create an account with is already taken, you need to request usurption. However, depending on how active the account was and how many edits that it has (usually, accounts that have made 15 or more edits at any point of time will not be eligible for usurption), you might have to register a new account with a new username - read the directions on the usurption page for instructions and eligibility requirements, and let me know if you have any questions. I'll be happy to help you if you do. Thanks for the message, good luck either way, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:01, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Drmies, any thoughts on this? Should I just let Girahasan's edit stand and move on? Someone else might fix it, but Girahasan is likely to re-add it, whether under the Girahasan account if it's never blocked or as an IP or with a different registered account. Hi LakesideMiners - Those are indeed good movies and worth watching... haha ;-).
On a side note, be careful with any text, content, or links you add to pages on Wikipedia (even pages outside the mainspace) - the URL you added here was a link to a youtube video which was to a copyrighted film. The uploader stated in the video description that he is not the owner of the content. That's a copyright issue and I had to redact the link from here. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:50, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

It sounds like you enjoyed watching it with your dad; that's good to hear :-). To answer your question: external links to IMDb or iTunes are usually okay. Those websites aren't places that typically engage in Copyright violations nor do they typically host content without permission of the copyright holder. Instead of linking other users to external locations to point them to movies that you're talking about (like in this example), why not just link them to the Wikipedia article? That sounds much easier to do instead of finding an external site and checking to make sure that it isn't a bad link or in violation of any copyright ;-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:54, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Need of Wikipedia page

Hello, I am a published author and listed under Google. How to get a Wikipedia page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Soumyadeep1997 (talkcontribs) 18:18, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hi Soumyadeep1997 and welcome to Wikipedia. Oshwah may be be busy right now so I am going to jump in here. First, thank you for asking about this before attempting to write an autobiographical article which is strongly discouraged. My initial piece of advice is to read WP:COI if you haven't already. Once done, there are a couple of ways you could do this. The first is to request an article at WP:RA. Sadly there is a backlog there so I can't guarantee a quick response. Another possibility would be to drop the request on the talk page of one or more related Wiki-Projects. Lastly, and this is not encouraged, you could write the article yourself as a WP:Draft and when done submit it to Articles for Creation where it would be reviewed by experienced editors who may either give approval and publish it in the mainspace, or send it back for improvement. If you choose the latter course please be sure to clearly declare your relationship with the subject of the article both when submitting the draft and on the draft's talk page. Please read WP:YFA for important tips about writing articles. Also, before submitting a request for an article please take a look at our criteria for inclusion on the encyclopedia. There are a number of pages, but the ones you will want to look at are WP:N, WP:BASIC and WP:NAUTHOR. These pages outline some of the criteria we look at to determine if the subject of a proposed article warrants their own article. Again, welcome to the project and please feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions either here, use Ad Orientem, or you can contact me directly on my talk page linked next to my signature. [One last note- please remember to sign posts or comments with four tildes ~~~~. That will automatically create your signature.]. -Ad Orientem (talk) 21:19, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Soumyadeep1997, and welcome to Wikipedia! I appreciate you for leaving me a message and asking for help before attempting to jump in and create this content yourself. I'm going to echo Ad Orientem's response above in that creating or editing an article about yourself or even about things where you have a personal conflict of interest with is highly discouraged behavior and will usually result in the content being removed or deleted by other editors. Before you begin reading through anything or editing any content, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be helpful to you. It will also help set expectations regarding conflicts of interest as well as behavioral guidelines that you should know about. Most users who take this advice tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them. After this is done, I'd recommend requesting the article be written by other editors. This method will prevent you from being left feeling disheartened and frustrated, and feeling like you spent hours upon hours of time and all for nothing. For the best assistance and information, I recommend that you go through the new user tutorial I linked you to above, and then refer to Ad Orientem's response above after you've completed it. If you have any more questions after you've finished the tutorial, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you good luck :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:13, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Add sql / dbms

Hi,

Before starting to create a page on our sql platform and linking it, I want to discuss on what is best approach. I’ve been around on Wikipedia some time and know roughly the netiquette.

My question: we have created a sql engine named Invantive sql with procedural option. It connects to 50 platforms and is in use for approx 5000 companies.

But it has little to no coverage in academic papers etc. So following the rules it should not be listed. However, the user community is running into issues needing input and conceptual overview. Some users are developers but it focuses actually on business users for which even sql is new. We have created over the years documentation etc but I would like to make it easier for people to discover from a reference source what sql is and in how Invantive sql differs and complies.

Can you help me with a recommendation whether to just go ahead with a page, follow an adapted approach and let it rest for some years and try to find another way to help the community (we are already on stackoverflow and super user.com).

Rgds

G. Leenders (talk) 15:07, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The solution to your issue, G. Leenders, is for you to host a website containing all the information you need to make public about your product. Please read WP:NOT, and understand that Wikipedia is not a platform for you to communicate with your clients or advertise or support your product. I recommend Arvixe web hosting, as they have servers capable of running all sorts of platforms, from LAMP to WAMP to Wordpress stacks, and they are dirt cheap. I further recommend Google AdSense to advertise your product and grow it's footprint. As its footprint grows, so to will it's recognition by academic sources, and so too will its recognition by other reliable sources. At a certain point, it will be notable for inclusion on this platform, at which point we will create an encyclopedic article on it. This will not be a comprehensive KB, or support document, but an article outlining the coverage your product has gotten in reliable sources, including academic ones. I hope this helps. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 17:29, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
(talk page gnome) I second MjolnirPants's advice (please note that we are not answering instead of Oshwah but only helping). I have noticed a few existing links to the company's website (in two related articles), I left them stand but would like to clarify that Wikipedia is not for promotion (relevant reading: WP:PROMOTION, WP:COI). If you believe that enough sources could support its notability and would like to still have a try, a possibility would be to clearly declare COI per WP:DISCLOSE and go through WP:AFC to create an article in Draft: space for an experienced reviewer to evaluate if it's suitable for main space. It's not easy, versus having a random tech amateur write the article because it's already a popular topic. —PaleoNeonate – 18:01, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
MjolnirPants Thanks for taking the time to elaborate. The other channels are already in place such as documentation to help and commercial ones, but are typically biased since we maintain them ourselves. Independent sources where users can work together are little yet, but I feel users should have a place outside of control of our company where they can work together on establishing "truth". It will have it rest for some years and try to find another independent location where users can work together, next to stackoverflow (hints welcome :-).
PaleoNeonate Thanks for the tip on COI; I hadn't found it yet, it is a clear text. I hate it when people are not transparant and even more when I myself might be considered a untruthful source, but could not find a place to have the edits marked as "possibly biased" like you can do on Google reviews. The availability of independent locations where people can work on an opinion on our work is very important to me to ensure that judgement on our work is established independently and not by marketing people. I will try to get the WP:AFC done.
I've added UserboxCOI it on the user page. I seem unable to find a way to document the type of interest. For instance, to the Instituut voor Perceptie Onderzoek (Dutch wikipedia) I've been involved in 1994 in an unpaid internship for my graduation on Eindhoven University, but there are other types of possible conflicts, such as minor shareholdings, someone like you to sit together with in a pub, etc.
Question: Is there a good way to document what type of conflicting interest there is for better transparency? Suggestion: should I list it in plain text below the UserboxCOI?
Also, the Dutch wikipedia has a page on "Zelfpromotie", but there is no template.
Questions: Should the Dutch template be created by me with an identical name? Or just put a similar statement in plain text in the Dutch user page?
I think listing only a COI at the user page is not transparant, since I seem unable to find an easy way to list authors which do have a COI on the page onhand. So I think it is better to add it to the topic's talk page too.
Question: Do I understand correctly from connected contributor, it should be listed on the talk page on a page when I make an edit to a page that might be a conflict of interests like when the changes might impact my work, family, myself etc? Listed at the a. end or b. start?
Question: To be sure, changes like on https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referentiegrootboekschema are not a COI? For my day-to-day job I have to do with the topic of RGS and gathered some knowledge on the topic, but there is no real commercial interests other than making sure that some encyclopedic space is available independent of the issuing organisation (which is an independent 3rd party) which might ultimately lead to a better adoption of this general ledger accounting method and hopefully better world?
I am also trying to understand what the tps Wiki markup does, but seem unable to find documentation, even when going through the full wikitext help, so maybe this is a little ill formatted.
G. Leenders (talk) 07:21, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi G. Leenders! Welcome to Wikipedia! I'll be happy to help you by answering your questions and setting some expectations for you. Have you gone through and completed Wikipedia's new user tutorial? If not, I highly recommend that you do so and finish it completely. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be helpful to you and it will answer many of your questions here. Most users who take this advice tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them.
A conflict of interest is broadly interpreted the same here - there's no need to delve into any details beyond that of declaring a conflict of interest within the userbox you created on your user page. In a nutshell, a conflict of interest is defined here as any kind of external relationship or experience with the article subject beyond that of simple interest or curiosity. For example: I do not create, edit, or even discuss articles, pages, or content where the main subject involves my employer, where I work, where I went to college, anyone in my family, or anything where I have a conflict of interest with. It's behavior that's highly discouraged and it compromises the article's neutrality. Both MjolnirPants and PaleoNeonate also touch on this in their responses above, as well as cite additional policies and guidelines that are important. Any level of conflict of interest like that is discouraged here; you should instead consider writing and expanding articles and content regarding subjects and topics that interest you but where you don't have this issue.
Please go through and complete this tutorial, as it will save you a lot of time and will provide you with a significant amount of understanding regarding your situation. It will also set expectations up-front before you potentially spend hours upon hours of time writing content just for it to be removed or deleted by another editor due to being a conflict of interest issue... this is typically what ends up happening. Please let me know if you have any more questions after completing the new user tutorial I've linked you to and I'll be happy to answer them and help you further. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia, I thank you for the messages and requests for assistance, and I wish you a great day and happy editing :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:38, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
User:Oshwah thanks for the elaborate feedback. The introductions etc are known. Intriguing situation, it reminds me why it was better not to run a public side-job (besides being a 1/0 human :-) I have quite a large area where a COI might be seen (despite that I try to always be fair), so it is probably better for me to restrain from creating fresh content based upon extensive knowledge in some area since for me it typically always involves some COI. Nonetheless, I want to contribute to the world my children grow up in so editing and elaborating where there is really no COI to be seen is a good thing to do. Thanks for all of your time and elaboration to assist me in this process. — Preceding unsigned comment added by G. Leenders (talkcontribs) 06:16, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi again, G. Leenders! You're quite welcome, and again - I appreciate you for coming here for help first. It potentially saved you a lot of time and frustration by doing that :-). I'll also echo what MjolnirPants said to you below: I appreciate your polite responses and your willingness to work with us to edit and expand Wikipedia within policy very, very much. You may or may not know this already, but there are many people who join Wikipedia and for the sole purpose of attempting to create, add, expand, or remove articles and content in order to either advertise or promote something, or to fit their particular point of view and away from being worded neutrally. Out of all those users I just described that do this, only some will even bother to ask editors questions or seek assistance first (or eventually, usually after they see that their changes were reverted or removed by someone else)... and of those users, only some of them will try to understand or even comply with the policies and guidelines that are explained to them. I've seen many long-term editors that spend countless hours of their time welcoming and helping those users and attempting to explain conflict of interest - just to be berated and smacked with heated and hateful words, personal attacks, and just outright uncivil, rude, and demanding behavior over and over again. I've had to step in and defuse or put an end to repeated uncivil behavior like that countless times, and I understand why many long-term users who try to help new users eventually stop doing so... they burn out. The reason I'm telling you all of this is because your honesty, respectful and polite attitude, and your willingness to listen and work with us to make sure that the policies and guidelines here are being followed... it's a huge breath of fresh air around here and I (as well as everyone else here, I'm sure) thank you very much for that :-).
Regarding conflict of interest: I just want to make sure that you understand the difference between interest and conflict of interest :-). It's perfectly okay for you to build and improve the article on SQL for example, or the Software engineering, Database, Computer, or other articles in those topic areas (so long as what you're adding and/or improving doesn't involve that custom SQL platform you mention). Those are areas where you have interest and a good level of expertise with and nobody is going to come after you about those kinds of edits. Just cite sources that are reliable, don't edit war, be civil to others, and follow the other rules of course :-).
However, on the other hand... if you were to, say, start creating an article about the SQL platform you helped design or that you make money off of, or the platform that the company you work for created... or if you were to go to the SQL or Database articles and add content about that custom SQL platform you mention, that's different... those examples would certainly be viewed by other editors as a conflict of interest. Even if your edits add external links to articles or content that link to your website, the company website you work for, or the website about your custom SQL platform, that would be viewed as not only a conflict of interest, but also as original research (since you're citing web pages, sites, and content that you personally built, researched, or maintain - which is not allowed).
In a short and easy example that will explain everything I said above: If I'm an expert on butterflies, I can certainly add, expand, and improve articles on butterflies, different butterfly species, their biology, lifespan, and make those articles and content better for Wikipedia... but, I cannot create, add, edit, or expand any articles or add any kind of content that mentions my butterfly-selling business, nor can I add any external links to articles that navigate readers to my butterfly-selling business website (even if I'm using it as a source to cite content). That example (hopefully) explains in a general sense where the line between interest with a topic area or article subject ends and where conflict of interest and where edits that aren't compliant with Wikipedia's relevant policies and behavioral guidelines begin.
If you have any more questions or would like my input or guidance about anything else in regards to Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to let me know and I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you have and help you with anything else you need. My talk page is always open to you, and you are welcome and free to come here to respond, ask more questions, or start a new discussion any time you'd like. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia, I thank you many times over for your polite responses and your willingness to work with us so we can help you with what you need, and I wish you good luck and happy editing! Even though Wikipedia is not the place to add content about your custom SQL platform, I really hope that you remain an active member of the community and that you help us to grow and expand the encyclopedia and become an experienced editor here :-). Best wishes - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:42, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Oshwah Thanks for the elaborate explanation on interest versus conflict of interest and your time. It is interesting zone to be in. Just a few days ago we have had a major discussion with the role of Senate in the Netherlands (see https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne-Wil_Duthler) in which a senator's business commercially provided input for new legislation on which she had to vote too. I will try to help as described by you above and when there are any concerns on whether my work serves the public or not, I will also be happy to discuss on it. Have a great day! — Preceding unsigned comment added by G. Leenders (talkcontribs) 10:16, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
@G. Leenders: Thanks for being so straightforward and polite about this: you have no idea how many editors in your position get quite angry on being told that WP is not for the purpose they think it is. :)
I feel users should have a place outside of control of our company where they can work together on establishing "truth". As an IT pro myself, I think this is a wise decision. And you know what? While Wikipedia may not be the place to do that necessarily, the MediaWiki software may be exactly what you need. You could set up a system much like WP, using the same software, with community moderators to ensure that the contents are outside of your company control. I've been discussing installing it on my company's servers as a communication and documentation tool. See Manual:Installation guide for an overview of how (relatively) simple it is to set up. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 00:03, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
User:MjolnirPants Thanks for the tip on MediaWiki. Would yo happen to know whether there is also somewhere a hosted site where you can pay say 10 years in advance (and not gold rimmed :-) and then all ties with the company paying it are broken, I would be happy to learn so. I hate it when public content runs on privately funded servers since it still allows a company to exercise influence on the content by threatening to pull the plug. The next best thing we have found so-far are the Stackoverflow sites, but still has potential of COI. — Preceding unsigned comment added by G. Leenders (talkcontribs) 06:16, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
@G. Leenders: I would imagine that many hosting services, including Arvixe would be more than willing to come to such an agreement with an enterprise customer, so long as you contact their sales team directly. It's actually a good deal for them, because they end up not having to pro-rate the customer for any outage, and they take their revenue right at the conclusion of the agreement, which is never a bad thing. You may also consider setting up a small nonprofit org to manage it. By including budgeting the org in your company's corporate charter, you can effect a disconnect that (generally) only a full investor vote could override. If your software takes off, it wouldn't be too difficult to transition that org into seeking its funding independently, as well, since you should have a few enterprise customers with a vested interest in maintaining the knowledge base. Of course, all this works best with F&OS software, which it sounds like your software is, given your concerns here. I would also point out that it would probably also be a really good idea to have that nonprofit manage releasing the software. Then, your company just has to offer training and certs that cost an arm and a leg and watch IT pros like me happily throw money at you :D.
One thing though.... Oshwah is an administrator for this site, so while your questions about COI are certainly appropriate at his talk page, I'm not so sure this discussion is. But I'm more than happy to continue having it over at my talk page, so feel free to click on the link in my signature that says "Tell me all about it." (or that link, right there) and respond there. I'd feel more free to go into some more detail there, too. I don't like to be rude to Oshwah by hogging his talk page, because he's one of the best admins here in my humble opinion, and shouldn't ever have to remind an experience editor like me to stop using his talk page as a forum. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 12:45, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
MPants at work - It doesn't bother me; you can keep the discussion here if it's easier for G. Leenders to receive help. Do whatever's easier for you two, I don't care. Just because I'm "Oshwah the Administrator" or whatever doesn't mean that I'm not out to get anybody. Nobody needs to run for the hills ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:18, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
It's more a matter of not being rude by filling up your TP with a convo that's technically a policy vio, but is generally overlooked in usertalk space. But if it doesn't bother you, I'd be just as happy to continue here. That's the thing about being one of the good ones; the ones who deserve the most respect generally demand the least. ;) ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 15:39, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Regarding vandalism

Hello Oshwah. I think 108.18.231.254 vandalized with this edit. I know it appears relatively constructive but when you search for "True Slav" it seems the only things that pop up are memes. Regards, Biscuit-in-Chief I'd love to hear your feedback :-)

Hi Biscuit-in-Chief! Yeah, I agree that the edit most likely wasn't constructive. It looks like the edit was reverted after it was made, but I went ahead and left a good faith warning for the user to use the sandbox if they wish to perform testing. Thanks for the message and for letting me know. If you're interested in performing recent changes patrolling, we can certainly use more hands! See the information on that page for more information, or let me know if you have questions or would like me to give you a quick intro :-). Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:53, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Okay, thanks, I think I'll go ahead and warn people whose edits seem to be unconstructive (in a friendly manner, of course!) :) ~ Biscuit-in-Chief I'd love to hear your feedback :-)
Biscuit-in-Chief - Check out tools such as Twinkle (you can enable it in your user preferences under the 'Gadgets' tab). It'll make warning and reporting users very easy and it automates all of that for you and in an easy-to-use interface. You should also check out this page (if you haven't already) for some good information, tips, processes, and tools. If you have any questions or need help with anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to help you out. Keep up the good work, and I wish you happy editing and happy patrolling! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:02, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Huggle Scoring and IRC

Hey Osh! I have a question about Huggle, mainly about scoring. I have seen that the score in the top righthand corner is sometimes a positive number and sometimes a negative one? Is the higher the number the more likely it is vandalism? Also, I can't seem to apply for a IRC cloak. I get a message saying they are no longer accepting responses. I know I will need to get an IRC nickname first, and I will do that when I get home(school blocks IRC), but what should I do for cloaking then? ThanksLakeside Out!-LakesideMinersClick Here To Talk To Me! 17:48, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi LakesideMiners! You are correct - edits are scored between -1000 and 1000 (if I remember correctly); the higher a positive integer the score is, the higher it scored as a likelihood that the edit is disruptive. The lower a negative integer the score is, the lower it scored as a likelihood that the edit is disruptive. Just remember that because an edit scored high does not mean that it's vandalism. Many test edits and even heated messages will return a high score; just make sure to be careful and assume good faith when in doubt ;-).
I know this might be a stupid question, but bear with me here - did you apply for a cloak by following the directions here? I've heard that it can take awhile for a cloak to be given out. You can still join most Wikipedia IRC channels like #wikipedia-en (where I'm active at most of the day) no problem. Remember that registering a cloak and registering a freenode nick are two different things - registering a freenode nick is the process of using commands to set up an email address and password with Freenode and then having your IRC nick tied to that account so that others cannot use it unless they identify themselves with your password. Registering a cloak simply takes your Freenode registration and hides your IP address. Make sure you've registered a Freenode account and nick before you request a cloak. Those directions should walk you through both. Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:48, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Yes I did, it led me to this. 13(is this type of link okay?) but ya, once I get back home today(or i might just use tor) i will create my name. and just because you are older then me dosent mean I don't have a good understanding of how IRC works :P.

Heyyyy, I didn't say that you didn't have a good understanding of IRC! lol.. I just try to explain things thoroughly so that I make sense and that others who might have the same question can also get help from the response I made. You probably have a better understanding of IRC than I do... no joke ;-). And "Tugs"? Nope, can't say that know who that is... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:51, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Hey, Oshwah.

Hi! I am a new user. I have many questions for you:

[very unimportant questions, i am curious, but you don't have to answer]

 • can you stretch a rock?
Sure, just heat it up to the melting point and I'm sure you could.
 • Why mile length?
Why... why not? Oh... unless you're asking why the mile is the length that it is?
 • Cream cheese is cheese?
Yes.
 • Why do electric outlets look surprised?
Not all of them do. USA and Canadian outlets have that "surprised look", but check out the sockets used in the UK, Europe, and Asia - they're not so "surprised".
 • millipedes 10 times faster than centipedes?
I don't know... are they?
 • how many colors are in a rainbow?
7.
 • why does allstate(R) disclaim that it's not available in all states?
Because their insurance services are not available in all States within the United States.
 • why aren't square donuts available?
There are - you just haven't seen one yet.
 • can pollen be allergic to bees?
No, that's silly... lol
 • what's twice as hot as 0 degrees?
That's a complicated question that has either no answer or many answers depending on how you approach it... "twice as hot" is something I don't believe exists in the manner that you're asking. Both Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin measure temperatures differently. For example: Celsius measures on a scale from 0 to 100 degrees and uses the freezing point of water and the boiling point of water as its high and low bounds of scale; Fahrenheit used ammonium chloride to measure its scale, and was redefined later in its history. Given these different scales and how we measure and express objects in terms of temperature and heat - "twice as hot" might be able to be measured, ...but it just cannot be expressed. If we have two of the exact same object, and object A is measured at 5 degrees Celsius and object B is measured at 10 degrees Celsius, ...object B is not "twice as hot" as object A. Object B is just five degrees warmer according to the Celsius scale and hence five degrees closer to being the same temperature as water at the boiling point. That being said, you can however state that object B has "twice the temperature reading" as object A. This statement would be fine, since you're now just referring to the two temperature readings as simple integers and not accounting for what they actually represent. However, no object can be "twice as hot" as another... we just can't express that using the scales and terms that we use for this kind of information.
 • is the sentence "A a a a a a a a." correct?
I doubt it, but maybe?

Sorry, i'm just bored.

Hey, do you like puzzles?

Yes, depending on the puzzle, they can be very fun.

And is Oshwah a pokemon, or am I thinking incorrectly?

Not that I know of, no.

Oh, and also, Mark Alpert needs a page, but I don't know where to start or what to do.

That was epic.Lakeside Out!-LakesideMinersClick Here To Talk To Me! 10:43, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
 • Just a quick note that you can in fact, have something that is "twice as hot as X" where X can be any temperature value except absolute zero (0 degrees Kelvin), so long as you have a reference temperature Y where Y < X, because "twice as hot" would then be defined as 2(X-Y). Also, while "A a a a a a a a." is not a proper sentence (and not just because it ends in a quoted period despite the quote being used in the middle of a sentence), "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo," is. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 12:56, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
MPants at work - Interesting! I remember studying and having labs about Kelvin temperatures and ideal gasses, but I thought to myself here, "twice as hot? That's just not... hmm" and pondered it some. I took a year of physics with calc in college along with a term of quantum physics with calc, but that was a good 5+ years ago... lol. And oh yes, I know about the "Buffalo buffalo..." article... I've run into it many times over the years (usually to revert vandalism, haha)... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:10, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, it's only true if the 0 degrees in question is measured in Celsius or Fahrenheit, and then the temps are all converted to Kelvin for the solution at the end. I should have mentioned that. It's odd, because it would seem like the answer is "no" because you can't have something that's numerically twice as hot as 0, and then even assuming it was 0°C or 0°F and converting to Kelvin, taking double that number is still just an arbitrary measurement; there's no way to show that 2X°K is "twice as hot" as X°K until you establish that 0°K is the baseline temperature against which to compare the two. And, I mean, it may seem obvious that 0%deg;K is the baseline to an idiot like me, but to a mathematician (like a friend of mine who once gave me a free 30-minute lecture on ratios in lieu of actually answering the question I actually asked him, the over-educated prick), that needs to be said explicitly, because blah-blah that's how you get fractions from ratios (as if having a smaller numerator than denominator didn't turn a ratio into a fraction already) and blah blah modern mathematics and blah blah set theory and blah blah computers blah blah technology blah blah getting a mathematics degree makes me smarter than you even though I distinctly remember you kicking my ass in chess and Starcraft on a regular basis for the first 15 years we knew each other until I got sick of losing and stopped agreeing to play you... ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 13:41, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
So apparently, 0 is the "preferred" baseline so I was wrong about it needing to be established beforehand, and that this does not, in any way, alter the fact that 2X is not "twice as much as X" without a baseline being established beforehand, however the hell that works. Also, apparently having your entire Protoss base destroyed by a couple of siege tanks and space marines because you were too busy building zealots off in a corner to build any defensive structures doesn't count as a loss in Starcraft accord some some obscure principle of mathematics that I'm not going to dignify by repeating here, but only if you're still sore about it 10 years later. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 16:34, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
MPants at work - Oh man... I played a lot of Starcraft back in the day (I also owned Starcraft 64 as well). I bought the remastered version update as well - definitely worth it! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:59, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I still play Starcraft 2 as well as the remastered original. That franchise may be a blatant ripoff, but it was a damn good blatant ripoff. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 17:02, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
MPants at work - I... you know... I just never got too far into Starcraft II. I'm not sure why... maybe it was just too different? I don't know. When the Starcraft Remaster update came out, that's what got me excited. Maybe I'm just too attached to what I remember and what I've played for many years... lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:16, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
It is different. It's much less strategic and makes a lot of mechanical changes that don't really make sense in terms of in-universe logic (though they are well balanced). The original games is better by far, no doubt. But I'm just not turned off by the sequel, and there's a wide player base for it. Of course, I also think Fallout 4 is an amazingly fun game and I've spent more hours in it than in Fallout: New Vegas*, so make of that what you will.

To be fair, that has a lot to do with the fact that NV keeps crashing on my Win10 machine, and I haven't put an old graphics card in my Win7 machine to let me add 30 gigs of mods to it the way I like to play.

Happy with your reply Oshwah, Thanks. I’ll do as we agreed caring your concerns and checking with the listed issues you supplied. There is not any interest or reason for me to cross the wiki red lines of info in the article. I’ll notify you as soon it’s done to get your revision and/or possible changes you suggest. Hope this also help with your time and work. Best Enrique Nicanor (talk) 09:40, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Enrique Nicanor - I apologize for the delay getting back to your messages here. Like I said earlier, life kept me busy for awhile and I had a lot of Wikipedia messages and emails to catch up and respond to... I really appreciate your patience and your kind responses, as well as for discussing your concerns here and for making sure no objections or concerns would be raised with your proposed changes. More editors need to model this exact behavior that you demonstrated here... you'd probably be both surprised and disappointed as to how many editors out there will just revert or undo the changes made to articles that they disagree with or don't like and without even attempting to communicate with the other editor(s) involved. They resort to edit warring, making uncivil and heated arguments and personal attacks toward the other, lots of nasty and unneeded behavior - and instead of just being calm and respectful, and taking a little bit of time to collaborate with one another and just work things out. Your patience, ability to communicate and work things out peacefully, and your positive and respectful messages and responses are awesome - please know how appreciated it is, how far it will take you (not just on Wikipedia, but in life in general), and please don't lose that part of yourself. It shines, and more people need to step into that light :-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:57, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi! I actually tagged this user talk page for speedy deletion and somehow you were notified about this by Twinkle. I removed the notice because I thought I have made some mistake, but found out I have tagged the correct one. Do you know why would it happen? Thanks, Knightrises10 (talk) 10:00, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Knightrises10! I sure do, and I'll be happy to help explain :-). When you use Twinkle (or pretty much any other automated tool) to request speedy deletion of a page and have the creator notified for you, it will figure out who to notify by looking at the very first edit made to that page (AKA the person that created it). It'll assume that this is the editor that it needs to notify, and it will send the notification to that person. In this example, I was the creator of that user's talk page because I blocked this user for their username and for making promotional edits. This user hadn't yet received any messages from other editors, so my block notification was the edit that created the page. Hence, when the user decided to abuse their user talk page by continuing to advertise themselves on it and you tagged the page for deletion, the notification was sent to me. I receive those notifications a lot on my user talk page; no need to worry about it - I know that it's just someone using Twinkle or Huggle to tag a page I created (usually someone's talk page), and if anything it tells me that I should follow-up and take a look and see what's going on ;-).
The actual fix to this "issue" is to have Twinkle's source code updated so that when someone tags a user talk page for deletion, the option to "notify the creator" is unticked by default. In the situation where user talk pages are tagged for deletion, a notification isn't necessary - the editor that the user talk page belongs to is going to see that you tagged it... lol. I'd say that 99% of the time, the creator of someone's user talk page is either a random editor who happened to message them first (a notification would just confuse the living daylights out of them lol), or it'll be the editor that the user talk page belongs to (which results in a notification... being left on the same exact page you just tagged.... which is pointless).
Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. Thanks for taking up recent changes patrolling and looking out for vandalism and disruption, and I'm sure we'll cross paths again soon. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:13, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for a great and detailed reply . I'll update the source code. Knightrises10 (talk) 10:42, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Knightrises10! You're quite welcome! I'm leaving a new discussion on Twinkle's talk page so that this can be discussed and (possibly) implemented; you'll be able to read it once I'm finished by clicking here and scrolling to the bottom of the page. Should be done in about 10 minutes ;-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:46, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Update: I just finished and it's now up. The diff is here and you can read the entire discussion (along with replies) by clicking here. Cheers ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:39, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi! Just read the discussion. It's great! If implemented, I think it will prevent any confusion among pretty new users like me :) Knightrises10 (talk) 12:43, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Trying to set up article

I am the communications director for The Institute of Internal Auditors, a nonprofit professional organization. I am trying to set up an article/bio on the organization's CEO/president and have developed the content and references per Wikipedia guidelines. I tried to create this under my login - jbabinchak - but it appeared that would not be allowed. I set up a new login under the organization's name - InstituteofInternalAuditors - but now see both are blocked. How do I proceed? Email

Am I allowed to make a policy for my user email?--Thegooduser Let's Chat 🍁 00:08, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Thegooduser - What exactly do you mean? What "policy" are you trying to implement? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:09, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
How I process my emails and my Email Privacy Policy Thegooduser Let's Chat 🍁 00:18, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - That's still a bit broad, so forgive me if I'm not understanding correctly; are you trying to just publicly state on your user page or user talk page something like, "I won't share information emailed to me", or "I read and reply to emails in the order that I receive them" - stuff like that? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:21, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
BasicallyThegooduser Let's Chat 🍁 00:22, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - Sure, nothing wrong with that. If I can make a recommendation - I'd state that information emailed to you won't be shared outside of it without the sender's permission first, and that users should only send you emails as opposed to messaging you on your user talk page if the information must be kept private. That's how I publicly state that I handle email messages and when users should contact me this way. Let me know if you have any more questions or if you need any help... you know where to find me ;-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:27, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
What about a law enforcement/court order or other exception? Thegooduser Let's Chat 🍁 00:29, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - Ehh, I think that's straying a bit too far. I think you just need to explain to others how you handle emails they send to you, that you keep them private and won't share anything, and when users should email you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:36, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
But is it okay? Thegooduser Let's Chat 🍁 00:39, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - It may or may not be, depending on how you word things... if you were to say something like, "If you threaten me, I'm going to refer the email to the police" - that could be very problematic and for many reasons I won't delve into... lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:53, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Also I am going to "steal" your email template. LOL Thegooduser Let's Chat 🍁 01:09, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Fine by me - no content on Wikipedia belongs to me, so steal away ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:19, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

User:Battap

Hmm I noticed the edits and block. I find it real strange, as I saw various accounts before doing the exact same thing: adding strange single statements to articles, as if these were copied from elsewhere, bot-generated, or maybe the same editor... Unfortunately I've not noted those accounts down, but I think that I'll start to. Does it ring a bell for you as well? Thanks, —PaleoNeonate – 02:41, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi PaleoNeonate. The editing behavior by this user didn't ring any bells to me, but then again... I deal with a lot of users like this. If you're able to remember or pull up any other accounts that edited similarly to this one and that you suspect may be the same person, please let me know - it would be greatly helpful and I'd be happy to take a look and see what may be going on. I'm going to extend this user's block to be indefinite in the meantime; given the user's edits to their user talk page since the block was applied, it's clear that their sole purpose is to be a troll... so, an indef block it is! Keep me updated, and I'll be happy to take a look and do some digging if you manage to remember or find anything. Thanks for the message and for the information - my talk page is always open to you and you're welcome to leave me a message any time you'd like to or need to. PaleoNeonate - You bet. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:39, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

So I remembered once reporting a user with similar behavior and managed to find that one: Special:Contributions/Timetin. Not conclusive that it'd be the same, but the single-sentence additions were quite similar... —PaleoNeonate – 05:52, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

PaleoNeonate - Cool deal! I'm happy that you managed to find one :-). Let me finish up a few things on my current "to do list" and I'll take a look and update you with what I find. Thanks for the response and for the information; I'll do some digging once I get these tasks done. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:05, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
PaleoNeonate - Okay, so I took a look through the contributions of both accounts here. One appears to repeatedly add disruption by modifying religious articles and adding NPOV nonsense. The other editor appears to do generally the same thing but within articles about animals. Looking deeper, I don't see any specific similarities or editing habits that would connect the two. One user even continues disruption on their user talk page after being blocked while the other didn't (that user made a few test edits but nothing else). Their edit summary usage is also not similar; one sometimes adds random and nonsense summaries ("clapped", "Boi", and others) while the other did not use or add any edit summaries at all. I'm not seeing much that we could use as actual proof to assert their similarities. In case I missed something, can you provide one diff from each account that you feel are similar to one another so I can take a look? I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking something that you're seeing ;-). Let me know - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:19, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
No, I think you're right. I could only entertain a conspiracy theory (unsubstantiated) of organized one-sentence trolls at the moment.PaleoNeonate – 06:29, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
PaleoNeonate - No worries; at least we took a look and made sure :-). If things change or if you feel that there are similarities between this (or other) accounts and you'd like to have me take a look, please let me know and I'll be happy to do so. Until we meet again ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:31, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Birth date reflects even after being removed

For a google search “ gayathri iyer “ , the wrong birth year is seen ,( with the source being cited as wikipedia) but the wikipedia page doesnt show the birth year or birthdate or age. How does this happen? Any way to remove the birthyear appearing on the google search result ( with wikipedia as source)?42.106.251.132 (talk) 05:18, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! Google is probably giving you information that it cached from Wikipedia in the past (usually a week or so at the longest). Since the last time Google probed the article for information, the information was removed (probably here) due to not being supported by a reliable source. If you check Google again in a few days, that information should be gone... it just needs to query the article again and update things on their end :-). Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks for the message! Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:28, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! Ah, you're referring to this article. The information you're referring to has been removed and hidden from public view, and the article has been protected. This issue should now be resolved, but do let me know if you see any more content that I need to review, and I'll be happy to do so. Thanks for the message and I wish you a great rest of your day :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:13, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Yes i was referring to this page it has occurred three times in the past few days, how long will it be protected for. It is causing personal and professional stress for the subject — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.171.153.189 (talk) 17:22, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
It will be protected for a few days. After it expires, I'll keep an eye on it and make sure that no unreferenced content is added to it and in violation of Wikipedia's policy (one that we treat and enforce very seriously). If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great rest of your day. About the changes made to Christ University

Hello , I thought it is not appropriate to have University name as honorable supreme Court has clearly mentioned that all private University should use deemed to be University title. So I replaced it by Institution. No offense. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumukhar (talkcontribs) 17:34, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Sumukhar! Welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a message here and for explaining your edit to Christ University. What we typically want to do is have the subject name mentioned within the article kept to be the same as the article's title. If the official name of the school is not "Christ University" but actually "Christ Institution", we need to have this fixed by starting a new discussion on the article's talk page. This is where you'll collaborate with other editors and discuss article changes and what needs to be fixed, updated, and improved. If there's evidence that shows that the school's name is not correctly listed here, you'll want to provide links to those sources in order to help show that your assertions are accurate. Once other editors agree that the name needs to be changed, the article can be edited and the name updated to be correct as well as the article title changed. If you have any questions or need any help, please let me know and I'll be happy to lend a hand. If you haven't yet gone through and completed Wikipedia's new user tutorial, I highly recommend that you do so. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be helpful to you. Most users who take this advice tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:50, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Question On The Voder Page

Hi Oshwah - Thanks for reviewing the link posted on The Voder article @ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voder! Can you give some feedback on why the external link was censored? IMHO the interactivity of the site makes learning about The Voder fun + it has all soundbytes on The Voder (19 in total) downloadable from one spot. Any feedback you have would be welcome. 74.92.234.58 (talk) 17:36, 26 September 2018 (UTC)Nick

Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message her with your request for feedback. The external link that you left appears to link to someone's website that provides the material described. Does this website belong to you or do you maintain this website at all? Let me know... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:58, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah & thanks for the correspondence! The answer to the above is both. This is my website + I maintain it :) If you have any feedback to make it more wiki friendly, I'd love to implement it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.92.234.58 (talk) 19:05, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi there! You're quite welcome! Yes, I thought that this was the case... this is why I removed the edit you made that added your website as an external link to it. Wikipedia isn't a place to add links like that to your website; we have guidelines regarding the use of external links which you can read here. Please let me know if you have any questions about this content guideline and I'll be happy to answer them. I appreciate your civil responses and attitude, and I'll be happy to help you with anything you need :-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:33, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Please don't thank me Oswah! It's actually pretty amazing to have a conversation with a mod :) Thanks for everything you do, your correspondence, and your dedication to the platform! I checked out the link requirements and I think this external resource is trapped in a rather interesting spot. From an educational perspective, the mouseovers on the schematics and the soundbites really offer a more comprehensive view of the Voder that the wikipedia piece doesn't offer + it breaks down the topic so any children interested in learning beyond the article may be a bit more engaged. I feel it would definitely be a worthwhile resource to anyone researching the Voder. The other external resource is pointing to a dead site on the web archive so at the very least, this may offer a fresh perspective? If you think the interactivity of the site is solid, you would recommend any other way of delivering the resource as a helpful companion?74.92.234.58 (talk) 13:02, 27 September 2018 (UTC)Nick
Hi again, and thanks for responding with the additional information and your thoughts. Admins on Wikipedia are not special people at all compared to everybody else... we're really not. Aside from having (literally) a few more extra buttons that can do stuff, administrators are exactly the same as other editors in every other aspect; we don't have any kind of "authority" or "rank" over other editors nor are we "above" others. We're required to comply with and follow all of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines just like everybody else, and we're held to the same level of accountability for violating policy (in fact, I'd say that we're held to stricter accountability since we're expected to upload community trust with the user rights). We're simply people with a couple of extra buttons and that's it... so, really it's nothing that particularly special... lol
The concern I have with the external link right now is conflict of interest. Since you stated above that you own and maintain this website, it's considered highly discouraged behavior as well as inappropriate for you to go onto Wikipedia articles and add links to your own website. I'm sure you understand why this is behavior that the community does not view as acceptable... not only is it a conflict of interest and compromises the quality and neutrality of article content, the number of links that would be added here would bury us six feet under... haha. Is this exact same content you've hosted on your external website also perhaps available on a different domain or website that you don't own? ...preferably one that's considered neutral and reliable? If so, then we'll be all set - we'll just add that url to the article instead and boom - you won't be making edits in conflict with Wikipedia's guidelines. Let me know if my plan to resolve this will work or not, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I'll be happy to help you and make sure that we do everything the right way ;-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:33, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
...But your extra buttons are awesome :) With editing though, time is arguably the most valuable asset one has, and to give it up pro bono is really an amazing thing! I 100% get the conflict of interest bit & thanks for your insight. I can definitely try reaching out to a some fellow Voder nerds to see if they'll scrape the content and post it on a neutral domain. Will I have any luck - realistically probably not - but I'll definitely give it a go! If I have any progress, I'll flag you down on this thread. Again, thanks for taking the time to correspond Oshwah!74.92.234.58 (talk) 15:07, 27 September 2018 (UTC)Nick

Bot

Hi, I am thinking of creating a bot that will alert users of unusual Log In's from devices or IP's they don't really use. The bot would Email a notification or give a alert to the user if this is detected. Then there will be a option for the user to click "Yes, this was me" or "No. Log Out immediately" (Pushing this will put your account under "Compromised" and then the bot will send a request to block the account if it was compromised. Any advice of how to do this bot? Thegooduser Let's Chat 🍁 02:10, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Thegooduser - The MediaWiki software already does this and exactly how you described your idea above. Users will receive an email and a Wikipedia notification of unsuccessful access and login attempts to their account, as well as unusual activity that's found. I'd think of another idea; this is already a thing ;-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:07, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks, I think, since I don't know what it was you removed from my talk page. Vandalism I suppose. Can you tell me what it was? Alexis Jazz (talk) 03:30, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Alexis Jazz! He basically modified your talk page to say that you... umm... suck on something... with a bit more to it... lol. I don't know who this person was, but he was dead set on trying to harass you. All taken care of though ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:33, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Stuff along the lines of "Alexis sucks cocks" doesn't have to be removed. If it was placed at the top of the page it could be converted to a regular comment. I don't mind these comments. Can you unhide the revision? The exact wording may help me to figure out who wrote it. Alexis Jazz (talk) 03:40, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Alexis Jazz - I'll email the content to you privately. Keep an eye on your inbox and you'll see it today :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:03, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
You don't have email enabled on your user account, so I can't email the revision content over to you. If you don't wish to turn this on, you can instead send an email to me and I can then reply to it with the content. Let me know what you decide to do. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:37, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Question

Just curious, but how often do you check for external correspondence? Do you have automatic, perhaps even instant notifications set up? Do you check at regular intervals? Or just wait for notices from senders? Like I said, just curious... I'm thinking of tweaking my email prefs. Cheers - wolf 05:11, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Thewolfchild! It's good to talk to you yet again ;-). Are you just talking about email? I have Wikipedia emails that are sent to me automatically push to my mobile device, so I get pinged as soon as they come in. When I get pinged by my phone about a new email, I'll take a look at the email subject to make sure that it's not an emergency or an urgent matter that requires immediate action now. If it is urgent like I described, I drop what I'm doing and respond to the user right away in order to acknowledge the email and let them know that it's being handled. Otherwise, I'll generally respond to them during any "idle time" throughout my day, or at the end of the day at the longest (depending on each message and the priority and urgency of the matter, of course). That's generally how I check my emails and respond to them. Let me know if I can answer any more questions for you or if I can help you further, and I'll be happy to do so. Cheers ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:01, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Actress Sonia kaur, and welcome to Wikipedia!
Thanks again for the message, I welcome you to Wikipedia, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:40, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Copying an article from another language Wikipedia

As the title says, can I know what is the policy of translating an article from another language Wikipedia through Google Translate, and then pasting it here at English Wikipedia? A few weeks ago, I saw an article with the edit summary, "I translated this from Italian Wikipedia" (as far as I can remember). Thanks, Knightrises10 (talk) 14:02, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Knightrises10! Sure, no problem. Wikipedia's translation guide should have all of this information there, and specifically, this section within that guide will explain how to properly translate content from one project to another. In a nutshell, we do not want content translations performed by just throwing the text into Google translate and then pasting what it spews back. As you probably already know, Google translate does a marginal job of translating text between languages at best, and the text that it returns isn't fluent at all - it's blocky, thick, and full of holes and missing conjunctions. While you can certainly use Google translate to help with part of the process by performing a quick and rough translation for you... a full, complete, and proper translation of content that would be deemed acceptable will involve having someone who can natively speak, read, and write in the destination language perform a full copyedit so that the content is completely and properly written. Please let me know if you have any more questions of if I can help you with anything else :-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:18, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Understood , thanks - Knightrises10 (talk) 14:22, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Knightrises10 - You bet; always happy to help ;-). Good luck with the translation project, and you know where yo find me if you need anything else ;-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:23, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah,

Yes, I do believe this was a mistake, due to the fact that the page I linked to is indeed informational. You can find there further information regarding the breed. Also, if you explore the rest of the site, you can find useful information regarding other small dog breeds. The anchor on which I inserted the link states exactly what is mentioned on our site, too.

I am kindly asking you to put the link back, in case you didn't see that my page has also informational content.

If you still consider this to be a bad idea, I understand.

Have a good day, Troy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Troycl (talkcontribs) 14:43, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Could you revoke this user's talkpage access? Thanks. 60.101.88.247 (talk) 15:29, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! It looks like he threw his temper tantrum and then gave up from there. I'm going to hold off on revoking talk page access for now, but if the user makes any additional disruptive edits to their user talk page after this one, please let me know and I'll yank it. In this case, meh... I won't pull it just because of one edit like that one... Most editors don't stick around after they "do a table flip" on their user talk page like that. They just leave... lol ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:35, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Making A Mistake

Hey oshwah I'm sorry for making a mistake But I'm trying to save myself. 68.103.78.155 (talk) 18:24, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to? Can you elaborate a bit more so I can understand? Setting my confusion aside: if you made a mistake in good faith, don't worry about it. Mistakes happen and nobody is perfect :-). Do you need my help with something? Let me know if you do and I'll be happy to help you. Cheers :-)
I was getting ready to be blocked by Cassiopeia but I am saving myself from it. you are very good. 68.103.78.155 (talk) 18:34, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
You're not getting blocked ;-). Since Cassiopedia reverted the edit you made to the article, I left a reply underneath the warning she just left on your user talk page and asked her to explain the issue and provide you with some help. Let me know how that goes, and please don't hesitate to leave me a message here if you need me to step in or help you with anything. I wish you a great rest of your day and good luck :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:43, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for saving me and Enjoy the MLB Playoffs and have a Good day. 68.103.78.155 (talk) 18:48, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
No problem ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:51, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not sure what to to make of this edit summary 14 or User:Bonadea's contributions. Is this actual sock puppetry or someone trying to implicate someone else by fake sock puppetry. Unclear what to do. --Jonathan Williams (talk) 21:42, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jonathan Williams! They are both LTA sock puppet accounts and are now blocked :-). If you run into any more of these accounts, please let me know so I can zap them. Thanks for the message and for letting me know about them :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:45, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
To be clear, I'm not sure User:Farlandia is the same user as User:Farlandiaaa, but if you figured out they are that's good. Jonathan Williams (talk) 21:48, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Jonathan Williams - They are the same person. This is not the first time that I've run into this LTA and for doing this exact same stuff ;-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:57, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah. User:Farlandia is definitely not Nsmutte. Unless you know something I don't, you may wish to unblock etc. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:53, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
Zzuuzz -  Done. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:29, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

[REDACTED - Oshwah]

An anon just added a BLP violating edit that might need to be RevDeled. Sakura CarteletTalk 02:32, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Sakura Cartelet - Thanks for the heads up; I've removed the revision text and edit summary in question. In the future, you'll want to email these requests to me instead so that Streisand effect is avoided ;-). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:17, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Your reversion of me adding the extra information about the Residents forays in multimedia

, and my addition of the information the artist they worked with on the most successful project, namely Jim Ludke. I just wanted to know why you deemed fit to remove my additional information. Surely MORE information is better? I was around during the early days of multimedia in San Francisco, and believe me, nobody had heard of the Residents compared with respect and knowledge of Jim Ludke in high tech and multimedia art circles..... Ask Joe Sparks (who is still a friend of mine) https://www.joesparks.com/bio/milestones1.htm, who created another seminal breakthrough project around the same time - another of the very first interactive graphic games called Total Distortion. I created the Secrets of Stargate CDROM promotional interactive, which was a first in that business, for Gabreal Franklin's TSD, and later went on to co-create "The Last Express" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Express with Jordan Mechner (my name is Donald Grahame). The reason why Jim can't speak for himself is that he died very young. The early days of consumer software development in "multimedia gulch" in San Francisco were very exciting in those days - pre-web, and the Residents tapped into that energy, and definitely did not create it... their strength has been in longevity and tapping people like Jim to promote their act, more than a great deal of talent on their part. And another observation about the development of wikipedia, I see that it has a developed a culture of removal of information, by bright young things yourself I guess, like your edits, and as I result, has gradually turned into a skeleton of what it once was. Sad. I've stopped bothering to add information to it, as I see my additional information invariably gets removed. While I look at the info in wikipedia straight away when doing my own research through life, I now find wikipedia is now generally not much good for anything but the most cursory overviews on subjects that once contained all sorts of weird and wonderful pieces of information added by users from wide backgrounds — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pixelwash (talkcontribs) 14:08, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Pixelwash, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your thoughts and concerns. I went and took a look at your edits and I see that they were made back in July. I saw this edit you made and reverted it believing it to be a test. I didn't see back then that you had made other edits before this one. I apologize for reverting all of those edits; I only meant to revert the one. Since then, I've put fixes into place so that I avoid this exact situation in the future. It looks like you've restored the material that was removed - if this isn't the case and you need help, let me know and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks for the message and the heads up about this. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:10, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Discussion about you

Hi Oshwah, just wanted to make you aware of User_talk:Ritchie333#Oshwah_blocking_Congress as you don’t appear to have been pinged. Cheers, --Pawnkingthree (talk) 00:20, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

Pawnkingthree - Thanks for the heads up! Much appreciated :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:11, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Yandhi

Could you (or another editor) take a look at the article? A lot of anons are adding (and removing) questionable content/vandalism to that page. However given the shear volume of edits I don't even know which edit to revert to or what edits are or aren't correct. Sakura CarteletTalk 05:50, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

@Sakura Cartelet: ClueBot NG and Jennica have reverted all bad-faith edits. The page has also been requested for protection. Don't worry :-). Knightrises10 (talk) 06:00, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Sakura Cartelet! Thanks for leaving me a message with your concerns. I took a look at the edits on the Yandhi article, and it looks like I'm seeing an edit war over content between A.w.quin and other editors, and a dispute over content taking place after Fox applied semi protection to the article more than anything. There was bad faith content added like you said, but it looks like they were removed. It looks like the issues have since stopped - do you see any content on the article that I should look at? Anything that looks like vandalism or isn't referenced that should be? Let me know and I'll be happy to take a look at it. Thanks again for the message and I wish you a great rest of your day and happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:21, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

User talk:Juan carlos perez rodriguez

It looks like that user continued to violate copyrights after the first block for such expired. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:39, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jo-Jo Eumerus, it's good to talk to you again. I hope things are going well for you. Okay, thanks for letting me know about this. I'll leave the user a warning about the copyrighted edit and try and point the user to more documentation to read. If you catch that the copyright issue continues after this, please let me know. I'll have no choice but to apply a longer block. We just can't have these kinds of edits going on like that... it's a serious violation of policy. Thanks again :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:28, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
Jo-Jo Eumerus - Okay, the user was actually blocked one hour after they made the edit you linked to above, and the user hasn't edited since the block was applied. Nonetheless, I left a custom warning for them so that there's no question that they've been given a warning, an explanation, and an opportunity to review the documentation and ask questions. If they make future copyright violations, it can be assumed that this user was given a fair opportunity to review the documentation and ask questions, and that they did so and understood them (as I stated in the message I left the user). Hopefully this will be what's needed in order to stop future copyright violations by this user... we shall see :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:59, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
Pretty well on this end. I needed a few days break because I had been working 24/7 - and not just on my job - before that. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 07:57, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
Jo-Jo Eumerus - Oh joy... I've been there before many times. At least you're taking care of yourself and keeping yourself rested up; I've seen a lot of people who failed to do this, and they wound up burning out pretty badly. I've been there once before myself, and it's not good... :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:01, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
