Question from Ashnic1317 on Defend Music (22:07, 5 February 2024)

Hello how do I add a link to references? --Ashnic1317 (talk) 22:07, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ashnic1317, and welcome to Wikipedia! this page will provide you with exactly what you're looking for; it'll show you how to cite references and add links to them properly on Wikipedia pages. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to help! :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:36, 9 February 2024 (UTC)

You removed something from my talk page.

So you removed a thing on my chat saying my discord, specifically as a place to chat, which I’ve seen other people do and it stays up. I just joined Wikipedia editing today, so I just want to ask what the problem was. JAFactsDude (talk) 01:36, 9 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi JAFactsDude! When I see new users adding links to their social media pages, personal servers, or add their personal information to their user page, I'll remove it for their protection. Many users later on, and as they gain more experience on Wikipedia, will someday request those revisions be oversighted due to the amount of personal information it reveals. If you wish for it to go back, by all means - please do so; I obviously can't stop you. I just recommend that you read this page before you make a decision. Information like that can lead to you being harassed in real life. I've seen it happen on here many times, and it's never pretty. Other than that, you're free to have it added there if you wish. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:35, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
Alright. I’ll keep it how you changed it. Thank you, sorry, I’m just new. JAFactsDude (talk) 19:38, 9 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from Heybbg (07:14, 12 February 2024)

Can I make one article bro? --Heybbg (talk) 07:14, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Heybbg, and welcome to Wikipedia! It's very easy - Just go here and read through this page. It will guide you though the entire process and show you how to do so. :-) Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to help! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:19, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

You may wish to revoke TPA. Cahk (talk) 08:16, 13 February 2024 (UTC)

Cahk - Meh, I'll leave it for now. The user will move on... ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:21, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Just curious

You hid Special:Diff/1207086606 under RD2 (grossly insulting) but he is dead and an unsourced addition of his name seems to me to require little more than a revert. Did I miss something? Primefac (talk) 08:35, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Primefac! I hope you're doing well and that your day is awesome. Nope, you missed nothing; I was an idiot and while cleaning up actual damage from an LTA, this happened to be mistaken as an RD2. I've undone the action. Thank you for letting me know, and I hope you have a great rest of your weekend. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:23, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
Cool cool. Primefac (talk) 16:24, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from Lornybodes on Arthur Green (footballer, born 1928) (14:42, 16 February 2024)

Hello, how do I add a photo to my Dad’s Wiki page? Arthur Green, footballer born 1928 --Lornybodes (talk) 14:42, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Lornybodes! Welcome to Wikipedia! If you wish to add a photo, so long as it isn't copyrighted, you can go here for instructions. Please understand that you have a conflict of interest with the article subject (being your dad and all...); I would advise not modifying any content on the page (such as text). But if you just want to add a neutral image of him, I don't see a problem... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:26, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from WikiAAT (21:47, 16 February 2024)

What are Wikipedia's Rules about adding pictures to articles and the source of those articles? --WikiAAT (talk) 21:47, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi WikiAAT! Images, just like any media, must conform to copyright rules. If your image is in violation of them, you cannot upload them or use them. Please let me know if you have any more questions. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:28, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from Rezapayk (16:01, 18 February 2024)

Hi Oshwah, I joined Wikipedia to add some content about our artists. And their professional journey. Please assist. --Rezapayk (talk) 16:01, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Involutional rollback pitfall...

...or something like that :-)

Hi Oshwah. I really respect your antivandalism work! This is just an FYI regarding what seems to me to be a common rollback pitfall. I stumbled upon this while doing some cleanup. I find myself asking how you could possibly have suspected that this particular "removal of referenced content" had not only been "gf", but also quite appropriate. I think the clue was in the ip's careful edit summary, "rm unmotivated definition of hodophobia, cleanup" (which can be confirmed by a quick look at the Hodophobia page).

I appreciate that antivandalism activities involve a lot of rapid reversions, and I am not sure how this sort of slip can be prevented in general. However, I thought it might just be helpful to post here (no criticism intended :-). Best wishes from a long-time ip contributor, 86.177.202.242 (talk) 14:21, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi there! Thank you for the message and for letting me know about my inadvertent restoration of (what obviously is) disruption to the article. I think I lost context in regards to the content and didn't look deep enough to see through the removal as not only being an edit that was correct, but an edit that was removing (or undoing) disruptive content. It's disappointing that I incorrectly assessed this edit - especially knowing that it wasn't caught and removed until just over four years after my revert (by you, of course). I really appreciate you for taking the time to point this out to me; after all, I can't take note nor can I take any mistakes I might've made and use them to improve my future edits if nobody makes me aware of them in the first place. :-) Rest assured, I will learn from this and apply what was discussed here to improve how I patrol for vandalism in the future. :-)
Please let me know if you have any more questions or further concerns, and I'll be happy to answer them and discuss them with you. I thank you again for pointing this out to me, and I wish you happy editing. :-D By the way, if you're interested in contributing to Wikipedia in the long-term, why not create an account and join us with a username? There are many perks that come with using an account compared to only editing anonymously with your IP address. Just a thought... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:56, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from FunnyWebster (08:35, 21 February 2024)

Hello sir. Plz guide me how to put a banner shell in talk page. --FunnyWebster (talk) 08:35, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi FunnyWebster, and welcome to Wikipedia! When you refer to a "banner shell", are you referring to a page header (such as the "needs additional citations" banner at the top of this article? Or the one that you can see at the top of my user talk page with the green background and the smiley face)? If so, it's just code and formatting that you simply add to the top of any page. If you're trying to add one to an article, I recommend reviewing this page to find the right template to add, as well as the directions for how to properly do so. If you're just trying to add one to your own user page or user talk page, you can easily create one yourself. This help page should provide you with the information you're looking for. ;-) Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. If I'm not referring to the exact item that you're trying to ask me about, please let me know. It would also be helpful if you described it and linked me to a page where an example is present. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:09, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from Surajhps0 (01:47, 22 February 2024)

Hello Glad to see someone on that side. 😁 --Surajhps0 (talk) 01:47, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Surajhps0! Welcome to Wikipedia! Please don't hesitate to let me know if I can assist you with anything. I'll be happy to lend a hand. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:10, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from Backlash NJHC (00:46, 24 February 2024)

Hello,

I would like some help to create a page for a band. --Backlash NJHC (talk) 00:46, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Backlash NJHC! Welcome to Wikipedia! I recommend visiting this help page for interactive guidance with creating your first article on the project. For an article to be accepted onto Wikipedia, it must meet certain guidelines, such as being notable, referenced by secondary reliable sources, and not be anything that you have a personal conflict of interest with (especially if you're trying to reference your personal accounts with the article subject). That guide should be able to help you navigate through these requirements so that you can find out if this band deserves its own Wikipedia article or not. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them and assist you. ;-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:14, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from BlueCapuchin on Applied science (01:39, 25 February 2024)

Hello I found something that I wish to remove from the page should I do it?

"Historians [who?] would want to see how applied science has evolved over time. In particular, how societies started applying scientific principles to practical problems, and how this practice changed over centuries. Exploring historical examples of applied science, such as the development of engineering techniques in ancient civilisations or the emergence of modern medical practices, would be valuable." --BlueCapuchin (talk) 01:39, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)@BlueCapuchin It is always recomended to discuss deletions on the talkpage. In this case, you would to Talk:Applied science to discuss. If there are no objections after a few days, it's usually safe to execute your proposed changes. NW1223<Howl at meMy hunts> 01:44, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
Just make sure to use an edit summary NW1223<Howl at meMy hunts> 01:59, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
Hi BlueCapuchin! Welcome to Wikipedia! NightWolf1223 is correct with their response above in that adding a discussion on the article's talk page detailing your concerns and why you think content should be removed is always the safe thing to do. If you believe that the content is unambiguously unfit or inappropriate and that removal would be an obvious action to take, you're always welcome to be bold and make the change yourself. However, if the removal would possibly or even likely be seen as controversial or be debated among other editors, start a discussion first. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Again, I welcome you to the project, and I hope you take off your jacket and stick around for awhile with us. We could always use more editors who are interested in being a long-term contributor who's knowledgeable and has a high level of understanding with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:19, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Learning curve

Im not giving up no matter the challenge. The song remains the same.

I honestly cannot wait until I can actually give thanks to a person here that deserves more appreciation than i can possibility muster up inthis llifetime. Wjr3 Brohomonym (talk) 03:26, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Brohomonym - That sounds like a great goal. Just let me know if I can assist you with anything involving Wikipedia, and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:38, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Regarding Unnecessary reverts during editing

Dear @Oshwah, You are my mentor,I just wanted to know what to do when people team up to prove their PoV.Chitpavan,Marathi Brahmin page I have given very new and research based source from JSTOR.The content May seems offence to their community as usual for south Asian caste.Even though they revert without any reason. How to deal with them,Should I bow against POV editors?.Currently I have pulled them to talk page but surely their intension is not to discuss instead to hide the JSTOR contents. Brittlee1990 (talk) 10:21, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Brittlee1990, and welcome to Wikipedia! If other users are reverting you edits to an article, they typically will explain why in their edit summaries. For instructions regarding how to properly handle situations where a dispute is taking place, please review and become proficient with the information provided on Wikipedia's dispute resolution and revert and discussion cycle pages. They will provide you with best practices with how to properly address and handle these situations. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:27, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Regarding check user confusion

Dear Mentor @Oshwah, The person who got offended with my edits raised a complaint for Check user to check sock puppetry. My doubt is Am I supposed to defend that or is there any procedure need to be followed by me?.As I am new to Wikipedia these POV people are targeting me like this, please let me know how to deal with this. Brittlee1990 (talk) 13:32, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Brittlee1990 - No need to do anything. If you're not violating Wikipedia's sock puppetry policy by evading your block and creating new accounts to continue editing, or controlling more than one account for reasons that are not listed here, then you have nothing to worry about and nothing is going to happen to you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:20, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Dear mentor, Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Joshi punekar This is that link where he has done false allegations against me.Ekdalian and LukeEmily probably both are same accounts as per their behaviour.Should I complaint this to any administrators? Brittlee1990 (talk) 13:38, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Brittlee1990 - "False allegations" are those that do not provide a logical amount of supporting evidence or a reasonable explanation or concern, or those that blatantly attack a user for political gain. Like I said above, if the allegations are not true, then you don't have anything to worry about. Just let the SPI report process continue and don't interfere with it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:24, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Doug Weller - Received and responded! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:22, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

Thank you!

Dear mentor, Have you seen he tried to provoke one administrator to give verdict against me, nice to see that admin Doug weller impartially rejected his claim!

Dear mentor, shall I ask questions when I get doubt regarding editing and handling poison people in wiki?,Hope it won’t disturb you! Brittlee1990 (talk) 18:41, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Brittlee1990 - So long as you're appropriately expressing doubts and questioning the actions of others in a way that is civil and maintains complete cordiality, I don't see it as disruptive nor as a bad-faith action to do so. Remember that we should always strive to discuss the content, not the person changing it. If you believe that someone is acting in bad faith or in violation of policy, you must support any accusations about a user's intentions with clear and concise evidence. Never resort to making ad hominem attacks or casting aspersions; keeping a cool and collected head and being kind and positive with all of your comments and responses - even in very heated situations - will go a very long way on this project. An important principle on Wikipedia that I highly recommend you spend time reading through and getting to understand is Wikipedia's policy on dispute resolution. I hope that I sufficiently answered your questions. Of course, if you have any more questions, you know where to find me. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:36, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

Quick revdel

Hey, thank you for managing the filters and such—a recent vandalism-only account left two entries in my talk page history I'd prefer revdelled, I hope it's no problem if I ask real quick? Thanks in advance! Remsense 06:19, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

Remsense -  Done. Next time, you'll want to email me this kind of request instead. 1220 editors (I just checked) have this page on their watchlists as of the time of this writing; rev del requests left here publicly have caused a Streisand-like effect in the past, as readers will quickly flood over to see and view the content before they lose the ability to see it. The less attention that can be drawn to those kinds of revisions, the better. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:49, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
sure thing, I appreciate the insight! I'll be sure to do that next time. thank you, cheers! Remsense 20:50, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

Feedback on new page

Dear Oshwa, I have created a page please give feedback on this. Ramachandra Baba Sukthankar-https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramachandra_Baba_Sukthankar Brittlee1990 (talk) 09:30, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

Brittlee1990 - I gave it a quick glance-over (sorry, I'm at the office at the moment, and I don't have the time to sit and review it right now), and it looks like you've added plenty of references. This is an important thing to do on Wikipedia articles, and for many reasons. Not only does it follow policy depending on the statement and information, but it also helps the article subject to meet the notability guidelines. Keep it up; let me know if I can answer any questions. ;-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:01, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
