Evaluate an article
Complete your article evaluation below. Here are the key aspects to consider: Lead sectionA good lead section defines the topic and provides a concise overview. A reader who just wants to identify the topic can read the first sentence. A reader who wants a very brief overview of the most important things about it can read the first paragraph. A reader who wants a quick overview can read the whole lead section.
ContentA good Wikipedia article should cover all the important aspects of a topic, without putting too much weight on one part while neglecting another.
Tone and BalanceWikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point of view; if there are substantial differences of interpretation or controversies among published, reliable sources, those views should be described as fairly as possible.
Sources and ReferencesA Wikipedia article should be based on the best sources available for the topic at hand. When possible, this means academic and peer-reviewed publications or scholarly books.
Organization and writing qualityThe writing should be clear and professional, the content should be organized sensibly into sections.
Images and Media
Talk page discussionThe article's talk page — and any discussions among other Wikipedia editors that have been taking place there — can be a useful window into the state of an article, and might help you focus on important aspects that you didn't think of.
Overall impressions
Examples of good feedbackA good article evaluation can take a number of forms. The most essential things are to clearly identify the biggest shortcomings, and provide specific guidance on how the article can be improved. |
Which article are you evaluating?
[edit]The article I am evaluating is Dr. David M. Berube's Wikipedia page (David M. Berube).
Why you have chosen this article to evaluate?
[edit]The reason I have chosen this article to evaluate is because Dr. Berube is my professor for this assignment and we have looked at his Wiki page together as a class. I feel that this will help me evaluate better than what we could discuss in class and have a good idea of how this assignment is to be completed.
Evaluate the article
[edit](Compose a detailed evaluation of the article here, considering each of the key aspects listed above. Consider the guiding questions, and check out the examples of what a useful Wikipedia article evaluation looks like.)
The article has a fair lead that describes Dr. Berube's current occupation and his educational background/qualifications. The headings are only Education and Career, with no information in the Education section, but a lengthly Career section. The conciseness of the lead does not really allow for the reader of this article to understand what Dr. Berube has been involved in and accomplished; however, it does give detail through the length of his studies.
The content of the article is very detailed in terms of Dr. Berube's career. It is very dense and information filled with nothing left out. The article is also neutral. It has no mentioning of favorites in terms of life accomplishments or career milestones and is objective in presenting what Dr. Berube has been involved in and contributed to. The sources are from the organizations that Dr. Berube has been associated with as well as journal publishings or other government or educational domains.
The article is simple enough to read even though the section is lengthy. There is clear paragraph separation and smooth transitions between topics. There are no images and the talk page does not have any discussion.
Overall, though the article is short, it is able to encompass Dr. Berube's career effectively.
