Your Fault
[edit]FireStar- I asked you nicely not to post the names of my friends, but when we went there this morning, there they were again. As usual, I have done everything you asked and all I get in return is treachery. Hasn't been a week since we had this war ended. You started it back up again by unprotecting the page and letting the Bulshido guys harass my friends. I don't want to come here and argue with you. I have already proven a hundred times that the only purpose this entry serves is harassment and asked you to take it down. You insist on hounding me when I have done nothing to warrant it. And, when I complain you tell me I've got an attitude. This is a pretty sick game, don't you think? Not really worthy of true martial artists. I ask again, as politely and nicely and respectfully as I can for you to protect this page or take it down.
Ashida Kim
- (The following is the continuance and end result of this "discussion" from User talk:Ashida Kim):
- Look, there are three things you have to realise:
- 1. I didn't protect or unprotect the Ashida Kim article, someone else did.
- 2. I didn't add the name, someone else did.
- 3. You responded to something you didn't like by vandalising the article. Do it again and this account is banned for good, I promise.
- Now, you may address your concerns about what is in the article to the people who did the things you object to. You should also remember that it is my opinion that you are the one who made the bed you are lying in by your outrageous public posturing, so you are barking up the wrong tree trying to get any more sympathy out of me. If you'd like, you can pursue formal dispute resolution, although with your track record, it will likely go very much like your failed AfD. --Fire Star 21:41, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
- Well, you did it again, didn't you? You have been blocked from editing for repeated, chronic vandalism and a multiplicity of other violations of Wikipedia policy. --Fire Star 13:37, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

How Do I Stop Threatening Messages?
[edit]Please forgive me if I'm not doing this correctly because it's my first attempt. I keep getting threatening messages to desist from vandalizing pages which I can assure you I've NEVER done. I LOVE this site and have never ever given a thought to edit any material. I'm wondering if it's because I have an AOL account. I can assure that as an editor, I have nothing but respect for the work you do here and would never be rude enough to transgress on the privilege to use its resources. Please advise how I can stop receiving threatening messages. Thank you for your time and dedication to making this a wonderful resource for everyone.

- If you are getting messages that don't make sense, and you have AOL, it is possible that you are getting messages intended for someone else. We recommend that you create a user account. It is almost instantaneous. With a username, you'd have a user page and, more importantly, a talk page, where people could discuss the articles you've been editing with you. Also, your edits are probably more likely to be taken as good faith if you contribute as registered user than under an anonymous IP. Other benefits? See here.

- Oh, I see. Cry your eyes out to the admins and then immediately turn around and start calling people brownshirts. How am I supposed to react to that? Rogue 9 15:21, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- Your reaction seemed appropriate in that you had a point that you wanted to make, which is fine IMO except for except for the one little bit I factored out. If the anon had done similarly I would have factored that out as well. They may have somewhere else for all I know, I only looked at the above link. They may have implied that anyone who disagreed with them was a brownshirt, but no one can actually call another user a little Nazi anything without consequences. WP:NPA is clear on this and is a non-negotiable policy. It is part of my job to gently remind users of that. I'm glad you people are discussing things, Rhobite has been around a long time and knows the ropes well enough to provide valuable advice. I don't think you are the bad guy in this and I didn't and won't pass judgment on the actual content of your argument. Regards, --Fire Star 22:28, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- I understand why you had to take the action you did. I personally disagree that the rule should be absolute, but I don't get to make that decision. I simply object to Grazon's using Wikipedia as a platform to smear his political opponents and then having the gall to complain when called on it, even if he was called forcefully - which anyone who belittles the threat that the Nazis were by comparing lesser "offenses" to Nazism should be, in my opinion. Hello fellow administrator :)). You did block the IP above for vandalism; this was correct. The problem: I use this IP too, so you sort of created collateral damage, and I couldn't reach you because I haven't got the possibility to send e-mails. I took the liberty to unblock the IP to reach you, only now realising that this may have been incorrect (and if you would like to, you may file an RfC against me for doing it).
The IP above is used by an government office in Berlin, Germany. This office is part of the social security system, and the IP is used by about 25.000 people (about a 1000 of them are doing their degrees here). I will place an explaining message on the appropriate page.
Sorry about that, and happy editing. Lectonar 08:29, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- PS: I didn't do the vandalising. :)Lectonar 08:29, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- No need to apologise, as I feel I've been bending policy a little in unblocking myself (isn't it funny that one can do this: you can't edit, but you can block and unblock yourself?) So, no RfC then ? ;) Lectonar 14:16, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Disappointed by capitalist nature
[edit]Hi there, I'm just leaving you a note to say that I am no longer going to continue to add detailed information to wiki martial arts pages - the information I have provided thus far has been copied and misused to add false credibility to a commercial school - I don't wish to provide further ammunition for these dishonest capitalists. I'm sure you'll notice this yourself if you examine the links provided from the xingyiquan article. This is a great shame - wiki provides access to information without the responsibility that comes from learning it from a teacher in the old tradition. This shall not prevent me from adding information to subjects which readers stand much less to gain commercially from. --Medains

Hey the Arbitration Committee indefinitely blocked Haizum!
[edit]Hi Fire Star, I don't know if you remember Haizum, but he's been blocked from editing on Wiki for an indefinite amount of time, but there is no reason really specified. The only thing I can think of why is that they didn't take a clearer look at what happened when Haizum blanked out that George W. Bush article. You and I now know that he didn't mean to vandalize the page, but it looks like the committee didn't dig deep enough to see what happened, nor did they even bothered to read the discussion page. I don't know if you know of any way to clear this up, but can we somehow get him unblocked? This is really biting a noobie user! --LifeStar 06:03, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for fairness
[edit]Thank you for your fairness in adjucating the Ashida Kim issue between him and people who wish to publicize the results of investigations into his claims and statements. While we at Bullshido might not always agree with the outcomes that Wikipedia decides, we know that they come from a legit process of considering all the presented evidence.
As a result of this, I've recently started a Martial arts therapy article based on research I did on the topic, and have cited proper studies regarding the topic. I hope it becomes a mainstay and frequently visited area of Wikipedia as I continue to find more information on the topic.

Ranges cont.
[edit]Hello, Good points. I can agree that there some systems that may train within various ranges however are these system as "all encompassing" as studying different specific systems designed for particular ranges? Maybe we could incorporate the "All Encompassing" statement to something like:
Although some martial system may train within various ranges there is a limit to what techniques can be studied within a particular "Closed" sytem. An electic approach on the other hand such as JKD can "Borrow" whatever it needs from other systems since this is a property and advantage of an "Open" system thus encompassing greater choice of inclusion.
We could also maybe say that: Traditional system Typically or usually only delve into one or two ranges but that some do within the context of a "Closed System". I just want to make sure that we define the differences between "Open" and "Closed" systems. This is NOT a bash on Traditional systems for without them electic systems would not exist. I have had numerous discussions with traditionalits on this subject and a general consenus is that many eclectics do NOT concede this fact. I tend to look at eclecticism as a natural progression of traditional system rather than this is better than that philosophy.
Your point about the arts that Lee studied tend to lean towards his "Personal JKD" rather than the "Process JKD" version that the article should represent. Also, I wouldn't say that Lee was saying that Traditional system were impractical only that he was correct about the progression and evolution that martial arts would take in real "Compat situations". MMA Contests being as real to streets fights and combat as you can get without folks killing each other. Current MMA contests prove that if fighters do NOT diversity amongst arts of various ranges they will NOT succeed. I don't belive there are any current fighters out there that ONLY study one system and have been successful in these contests. Maybe we can say something along those grounds? FrankWilliams 17:13, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
The first part of what you said is good; we could add:
MMA fighters using Lee's principles have been highly successful in MMA contests. Lee's philosophy (or variations of it) seems to be utilized by almost the entire MMA competition world.
The second part about JKD fighters is somewhat problematic because the JKD principles and notions that we are talking about have been incorporated into the MMA world without the label. In other words fighters are utilizing the approach without knowing from which it came. Therefore they would not even consider themselves to be practioners of JKD even though they are utilizing its principles. FrankWilliams 19:48, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

2 Articles - Choi Kwang-Do and Jung Sin Yuk-Do
[edit]I have edited and created the original article Jung Sin Yuk-Do and had edit ed to and added to the article Choi Kwang-Do. Since Jung Sin Yuk-Do is an off-shoot, a break-away from Choi Kwang-Do, it's concepts although similar, are different, it's outcomes slightly different, and it's approach, slightly different. I am sure you would understand the difference between one martial arts and another, even subtle differences. The article(s) however are continually being edited and changed by a Choi Kwang-Do Instructor with an IP address of 220.235.249.146 (although unfortunately, it seems often static, but sometimes dynamic IP)and this person is on a mission to discredit as many ex-CKD Instructors as he can. This user has been warned for his edits before, but conitinues an anyway, despite the warnings. Your thoughts? User:Spirit1 05:58, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi
My name is Dale Miller. Im an instructor for CKD. My email address is ckdwales@yahoo.co.uk
I would like to chat with you and other admins if possible about getting this whole rubbish sorted out as its getting out of hand and doesnt do anyone (Wiki, CKD, and the others editing it) any good in the long term.
Ive been training in the art for many years and have been running my own schools since 1999. Im happy to discuss anything that you have issues with and try to get this settled in a mature manner.
What has happened is that one person has broken away from the main organisation. And then all of a sudden (and this is my POV) ive noticed that this person has been coming onto WIKI, going onto other martial arts sites (www.martialartsplanet.com as an example) and doing his best to discredit the art for whatever reason.
Some of the things he's saying has been out of order in the eyes of some CKD instructors and from that arguments have ensued as you can see on the CKD page.
So please feel free to email me. I will be happy to give you my opinion on CKD or any of the issues brought up. And by all means contact the persons who are editing the article in ways that WIKI arent happy with.

[edit]Hi I really have nothing invested one way or the other but by way of excuse there was a little edit war over at the list of famous Aikidoka where deletions were more political than factual. Rightly or wrongly I had the same impression here. In the Moy Lin-shin article it does not say it is not a martial art nor that the founder disavowed it as such. I'll let it go but suggest that the Moy Lin-shin article should be altered a tad. If the person who put the entry in feels strongly enough I am sure he'll say so. Stephen K. Hayes
[edit]Greetings, and first thanks for all the patient work you did to neutralize the POV-pushing in context of the Ashida Kim article. Something similar is now happening with Stephen K. Hayes, although things haven't escalated as far as with Kim (and hopefully never will). Could you please take some time to review that article? It is far from perfect and needs references but the silly reverting by some opinionated newbie makes it hard to continue improving it. Regards, jni 10:08, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
Acupuncture spamlink
[edit]You're quite entitled to restore the link, I just thought I'd let you know that that user was going down the list of pages in the skeptics dictionary alphabetically and linking from every Wikipedia page possible. So while the links weren't of a particularly commercial nature, the fact that the editor was adding them indiscriminately was why I labelled them spam, not the actual content. See [1]. See you around, and glad to see someone who evaluates the external links added to articles! NickelShoe 15:40, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi - me again. Thanks for the comment. I did not want to remove them right off because they seem to have contributed quite a bit elsewhere. I'ld like to remove DWN down including Free-Style basically on the grounds that none are martial arts. I suppose I could do this without support/permission but I still feel like I'm the noobe on the block. Opinion?Peter Rehse 05:52, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I noticed that you deleted the page FFT. I had to restore this, because this was a valid page on three-letter acronyms "FFT". I think you got confused because it has been repeatedly vandalized recently. In the future, please look at the page history before deleting! —Steven G. Johnson 01:22, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Dim Mak
[edit]Hi Fire Star. It is interesting to hear that Dim Mak is considered to be “something specifically from the criminal underworld and was considered dishonorable” and I accept that it may not be a part of the Tai Chi Chuan martial art in its most aggressive form i.e. with the aim to kill.
The reason that I say that is that, although my teacher teaches us techniques that attack pressure points, acupoints and manipulate joints to cause pain or to incapacitate (see http://www.taichichuan.co.uk/information/wudang_tai_chi.html click Syllabus for reference to Dim Mak) there isn’t anything in there that would be aimed at directly killing an opponent.
You are right, I am interested in the idea that certain aspects of the Chinese martial arts are considered to be “evil” and that idea certainly reflect my wife’s view from her experience of growing up in Taiwan. She considers most martial arts to be associated with criminal gangs and I think she only tolerates my practice of Tai Chi Chuan because of the positive healing aspects that are part of the art.
Our martial art seems to have struggled with its public image for a long time, in the sense that on the one hand it is said to be a very effective martial art and on the other promote good health and longevity. To many it seems difficult to resolve this apparent dichotomy, but once one understands the philosophy and the practice then all can start to make sense.
Perhaps, as part of this struggle with its public image and in an effort to promote Tai Chi Chuan as an exercise for good health, it has become more difficult to talk of such “evils” as Dim Mak in public simply because of its association with Triad gangs etc. It does make sense!
I have no qualifying language other than the Wudang style has a skill set known as Dim Mak and by association assume that the other “martial” styles of Tai Chi Chuan have the same.
As Wikipedia is not the forum for controversial discussions, I accept your decision to remove the Dim Mak reference if you feel that is more respectful to the Wu family teachers; I will leave that up to you. Good to talk to you again. Cheers Realtaichi 19:55, 7 February 2006 (UCT)
- Hi Fire Star. Thanks for the interesting reply. With reference to the Dim Mak reference how about rewording it as below:-
- Yang Shaohou’s martial art is said to have included Chin Na techniques and also techniques that utilise acupressure points and other pressure points to cause pain in order to disrupt an opponent’s intent. This is sometimes incorrectly referred to as Dim Mak 點脈, which is a black art designed to cause severe injury or even death. Please re-word as you see fit.
- Let me know what you think...Cheers Realtaichi 12:20, 8 February 2006 (UCT)
Question on user access
[edit]Hi, I hope this is the right place to ask for this. I asked for a new password since somehow the one I remembered typing was rejected, but I haven't received any new passwords in my mail accounts. This could mean that my user was registered with an e-mail I don't have anymore since I change my broadband provider. Could you help me or tell me how to solve this problem? I didn't have more than a few edits, so don't mind me if doing something about this is too complicated. Just let me know. Thanks 200.59.172.82 14:29, 8 February 2006 (UTC) User:Andraax
List of martial arts
[edit]Hi, you seen to walk into the same dilemma as I do. You entioned moving entries from e chapter "Notable styles ..." to the list of martial arts. I also have a set of martial arts styles which make up only a few lines each - to short for a complete article but to long for the list of martial arts. Did you ever think about a kind of third place, a place to list all martial arts that have only 1...10 lines of text ? Thomas 19:49, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- It seems to me that you know more about Wikipedia than I do. Fair enough, I made an error or two that you might have corrected. I am a bit new to Wikipedia. But the opinion that I stated about Bruce Kumar was on the talk page, which I thought was there for the whole reason of expressing opinions which could not be included in the mai article. By the way sarcasm never helps. Regards Dessydes
Apology Accepted
[edit]That's okay, I know that you meant well. If you look at the articles that I've written, there are a few on martial arts, so that's something we have in common. I have books on the nie jia (internal arts), but I have not had a chance to study baguazhang which is something that I've wanted to do since I heard of it. I have to admit I'm a bit envious of you having met B. K. Frantzis, as he comes across as someone trying to live life via the "wu-wei" philosophy of Taoist kung-fu. I look forward to hearing from you again as well. K.I.T.Dessydes
Tai Chi Gong
[edit]I have been trying to do some research on the origins of the Wudang system’s 24 set Neigong exercises, as I understand it the Wu Family’s 24 set Neigong system is similar, and I cannot find any reference to this Neigong system in any of the other styles.
Do you believe that the 24 set Neigong comes from the Yang family or from the Wu family or from another source?
I wonder if you could help?
Realtaichi 18:50, 15 February 2006 (UCT)
- It all sounds very interesting and have spent many hours trying to research Tai Chi Gong related issues.
- The best documented information that I have found that is all in one place on the Internet is at this URL http://hk.geocities.com/taichi8118/air.html , which has the individual names, some of the aspects they train and also some information on the TCM aspects. Let me know what you think and your opinion on the authenticity of the information. The names and training aspects correlate pretty much with the transmission that I have. If you would prefer to discuss this in a more private situation, then you can e-mail me on mail@realtaichi.com, look forward to your reply. Cheers Realtaichi 12:40, 16 February 2006 (UCT)

WORLD TAI CHI & QIGONG DAY
[edit]Hello Fire Star,
I'm working on an article for the World Tai Chi & Qigong Day entry, but am having problems. Please help and advise. Below is what I've created so far, but am not able to make words linked to external links, or to upload photos. Please advise, and thanks in advance.
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day (Chinese: Hanyu Pinyin spelling for tai chi is Taiji, literally translated means "supreme ultimate"), also spelled World T'ai Chi & Chi Kung Day, is an event held in sixty countries, the last Saturday of April each year.
OVERVIEW The event is open to the general public, and begins in the earliest time zones of New Zealand at 10 am, and then unfolds across Oceania, Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, and South America, with celebrations in sixty nations and several hundred cities, ending with the final events in the last time zones of Hawaii. Celebrations include mass tai chi and chi kung exhibitions in many cities, and free teach-ins in most participating cities.
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day's stated goals are to: 1) Educate the world about emerging medical research revealing health benefits that tai chi and chi kung offer. 2) Educate about the increasing use of these ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine technologies in business, education, penal and drug rehabilitation. 3) Provide a global vision of cooperation for health & healing purposes across geopolitical boundaries, and also an appeal to people worldwide to embrace wisdom from all the cultures of the world.
OFFICIAL RECOGNITION World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events have been recognized by the United Nations World Health Organization (UNWHO) for participation in the UNWHO's "Move for Health" movement, and World Tai Chi & Qigong Day has been officially proclaimed by governors for their states including the US states of California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachussetts, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Utah. Senates and legislatures have officially proclaimed World Tai Chi & Qigong Day, including the Senate of the state of New York, the Senate and Legislature of the state of New Jersey, California's State Assemly, and in 2005 the national Senate of Puerto Rico proclaimed "Dia Mundial de Tai Chi y Qigong" (World Tai Chi & Qigong Day) for Puerto Rico.
Mayors of many major cities have also officially proclaimed World Tai Chi & Qigong Day for their cities, including South Buenos Aires (Argentina), Austin (Texas), Osasco (Brazil or Brasil), Cupertino (California), El Paso (Texas), Hastings (Nebraska), Pemberton and Willingboro (New Jersey), Patchogue & Rochester (New York), San Angelo (Texas), Scranton & York (Pennsylvania), St. Louis (Missouri), St. Augustine (Florida), Toledo (Ohio), Ashville (North Carolina), and Suffolk County (New York).
ORGANIZATION The event's international organizing center is http://www.worldtaichiday.org, which provides information on tai chi and chi kung, including health research, information on how tai chi and chi kung relates to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), what people new to tai chi or chi kung can expect when they attend classes, and video and audio samples of various tai chi and chi kung exercises and forms. The site also provides links to tai chi and chi kung publications, associations, schools, and groups in many states and countries, with a searchable database that lists schools by their country or US state. The site is viewable in nine languages with translation instructions via babel fish translation programs, although the translations can be difficult to decifer at times, but still useful.
The local events are independently organized by local tai chi and qigong schools, groups, and associations. The format of events varies by locality, although most involve teach-ins and mass exhibitions. International organizing for the event is done at the World Tai Chi & Qigong Day office in Overland Park, Kansas.
HISTORY The global event began in 1999. However the first event, that inspired the global event, was held in Kansas City, Missouri in 1998 on the lawn of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in midtown Kansas City, where the Kansas City Tai Chi Club held a mass Tai Chi exhibition and teach-in involving nearly two-hundred people. CNN Headline News covered the event, which generated interest beyond Kansas City to quickly grow into a national and international event in the following years.
