We now have 812 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.
The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.
Second set of eyes
Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.
Abuse
This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and
This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.
Coordinator election
Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.
Not sure what you meant by "not add promotional material to Wikipedia" for the content on the page Mahiya Mahi on my talk page. The content is well researched and backed up by several News portals. Make sure that you understand about what you are commenting on and also try to perceive the words advertising / promotion before using them randomly. Please don't waste valuabletime of other contributors by unnecessarily writing on their talk page. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Watermermaid (talk • contribs) 12:27, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
@Watermermaid: If you want to try to have the content restored, take it to the article talk page and identify at least one source that demonstrates encyclopedic value that doesn't violate WP:NOT and WP:BLP.
As for the advertising and promotion, I agree that your spaming of dezzain.com looks very problematic.
If CAPTAIN RAJU hadn't already left you a notice, I would have left one that clearly indicated you are at risk of a block. --Ronz (talk) 16:29, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

"In use"
Hi Captain. I just wanted to mention that while I agree with your edits to A Good American, ordinarily the "in use" template should be respected when it is on a page, to avoid edit conflicts. Thanks, Coretheapple (talk) 18:17, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Oh yes, I understand that, and I appreciate your edits. For instance I agree that the page needed to be retitled. But there was no rush about it, and the "no use" tag is just a polite request to hold off on edits for a short period of time. That's all. No big deal. Coretheapple (talk) 13:31, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello, in response to my edit on Wookieepedia, I removed the Reception section due to the fact that it was heavily biased against W.pedia. I made this clear in the edit summary, so I think there must have been some confusion. Sorry! 86.175.181.171 (talk) 18:57, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Problems
The block log sometimes showed blocks as being much longer than they were. This has now been fixed. [1]
Changes this week
Wikimedia pages will now be better at showing pictures when you share them on social media. The descriptions will be different too. You can see an example of before and after. [2]
There are some changes to the OOjs UI. Some old functions will not work anymore or not work as they used to. This could be a breaking change. [3]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 February. It will be on all wikis from 9 February (calendar).
Meetings
You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 7 February at 20:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
Tidy will be replaced later this year. Instead, the HTML 5 parsing algorithm will be used to clean up bad HTML in wikitext. This will cause problems on a number of wikis. They need to be fixed first. You can see if your wiki still has something to fix here for one of the HTML problems. This list does not cover all problems. You can read about more problems. [4][5]
When posting a link to an item to social networks and on messenger apps that show previews the previews will now be nicer and show an image. (phabricator:T51859)
The Cebuano and Swedish wikis have a lot of bot-created content which is unconnected to other wiki articles. A good way to tackle that problem is by checking constraint violations for property GeoNames ID.
Earlier today I added some of the plot to the vampire academy novel page. As I am new to editing Wikipedia pages, I didn't realise I needed to add a source, and therefore you asked for it to be removed. I would like to add the plot again, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to add sources so I'd be grateful for your help - I want to ensure I get it right this time!
I noticed you relisted this AfD for a third time - per WP:RELIST most discussions should not be relisted more than twice, without a good compelling reason - "while having a deletion notice on a page is not harmful, its presence over several weeks can become disheartening for its editors", which is the case here, as this AfD, already a second nomination, has been on the page since January 18. It was relisted already on February 3rd, and no comments have been added since February 2nd. This discussion is now stale, and should be closed as "NO CONSENSUS" if there is not a clear, rough consensus for deletion. Garchy (talk) 14:47, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Recent changes
EventStreams is a new way to show activity on Wikimedia wikis. For now it works with the recent changes feed. It will do more things later. It will replace RCStream. Tools that use RCStream should move to EventStreams before 7 July. [6]
Problems
The Firefox add-onFirefogg can cause problems with the Upload Wizard. This will not be fixed, because Firefox will not support Firefogg in the future. The Upload Wizard will no longer work with Firefogg. [7]
Tool Labs and Wikimedia Labs databases will be under maintenance on 15 February. This will start at 17:00 (UTC) and last for about six hours. Some tools could have problems during or after this. [8]
Changes this week
The TwoColConflict extension is a new way to solve edit conflicts. It makes it easier to copy and paste the relevant text to the text field. It will come to Meta and German Wikipedia this week. It is already available on MediaWiki.org. It will come to more wikis later. [9]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 February. It will be on all wikis from 16 February (calendar).

Future changes
Page Previews will be turned on for logged-out users on the Catalan, Greek, Russian, and Italian Wikipedias in the middle of February. Page Previews shows readers a short part of a linked article when they rest their mouse pointer on the link. This is to help them understand what it is about without leaving the article they are reading. Page Previews used to be called Hovercards. It will come to more wikis later this spring. [10]

A tag has been placed on User talk:Citizen live news requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://achlivetv-malayalam.android.informer.com/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. There is no longer a UEZ program. it expired January 1 2017. You should remove the now inaccurate statement that Trenton has a functioning Urban Enterprise Zone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.168.172.108 (talk) 02:50, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
Hello CAPTAIN RAJU, have you watched carrefully those links before you reintroduced them ?? TOEFL, dead link and so on. You should help me to find more convenient links... I'm currently editing the French WP page for Caroll [12], kind regards, --Pierrette13 (talk) 12:50, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Hi,Pierrette13 I've revert your edit because, these edits were not constructive, but it is considered vandalism.'''{{…}}''' It was a red line template.I have already added strikethrough on your talk page notice.Thanks.CAPTAIN RAJU (✉)18:22, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Hello hello again, thank you for your message. When I realized that this {...} (which is used on the French WP to say it's empty), you had already cleared-up everything (thank you). But the point is that you reintroduced dead links ou promotional links (TOEFL for instance). Could you take them away ? Thank you, best regards, --Pierrette13 (talk) 18:33, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

My mistake
I am so sorry ..I was trying to write in my personal page but ended up creating a page.
I submitted the page for deletion. Is there anyway to speed up the process? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahmed A.Amer (talk • contribs) 23:24, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Changes this week
Page Previews will be updated on 23 February. This fixes many bugs. Page Previews can be turned on as the Beta Feature called Hovercards. [14]
There has been a problem where the CSS of gadgets has been loading twice. The Gadgets extension has two new options: type and peers. The type option solves this problem. You can use peers to create gadgets with more than one style module. Read more about type and peers. [15]

Thank you for contacting me and notifying me about the changes. The changes I made were in line with the factual information I have at my disposal about this personality's life. I own most of his works. I felt if I contributed to this page, I would be able to benefit others by sharing this information.
For instance, I changed "Kawthari moved to Cairo . . ." to "Kawthari fled to Cairo". The reason is that after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, many Turkish Muslim scholars had to flee for their life from the new secular regime who wanted to incarcerate them. Both he and the Shaykh al-Islam fled Turkey and would eventually settle in Egypt.
Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.
Still a MASSIVE backlog
We now have 812 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced. If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.
