About Vibe/Ration article nomination for deletion

[edit]

First, I'd like to welcome you to Wikipedia, as I see that nobody has done so here on your talk page.

I see you've commented on the process of deletion of an article you created. It's okay, most of us get a bit defensive when we see our articles put up on AfD.

I also see you've made some decent edits on other music-related topics, and I applaud you for being bold in the creation of the Vibe/Ration article. Admittedly, I don't have much of a history for creating pages here, due to the fact that my self-appointed task is simply article cleanup.

You have requested that someone talk to you about the deletion of the article in question, though, so that's why I'm here. I didn't put your article up, but had I been in the position of the person who did so, I would have done the same thing. Simply put, no matter how good Vibe/Ration is, they don't meet the requirements for listing on Wikipedia. They don't show up on the top page of a Google search (instead, I get places where I could buy vibrators), and as far as anyone can tell, they have not yet signed to a label nor have they released any albums--nor are they a major Creative Commons contributor (something I'd heartily suggest to the band, if you know their members). Simply put, they are no more deserving of an article here than any of the millions of startup bands across the world that haven't been signed. The Wikimedia Foundation, well-endowed as it may be, just doesn't have the bandwidth for that.

I do wish the band good luck with their music, and look forward to seeing a day when this article can be recreated under the proper guidelines.

P.S.: It's good ettiquite to sign edits to talk pages and voting pages, that way people know who they need to address. I would have had no clue who to contact if somebody else hadn't listed the fact that you were the person requesting some contact on the article deletion. You can do this by pressing the second button from the right on the bar above the edit box, or simply add four tildes (~~~~) to do this. To just sign your name, whtout the timestamp (as I did above), use three tildes ~~~).

Hi, I'm the nominator for deletion of this entry. Thephotoman has explained pretty well all that I would say to you, but I'll just add this. For articles on bands, the first criteria I'll use is the number of first-page google hits I get , and this band gets none, and one of the reasons is that 'vibe/ration' is actually very hard to google as the search engine will give back directory listings /vibe/ration, or remove the '/' mark. You might want to relay this back to the band, as this is clearly affecting their internet exposure. Lastly, its nothing personal. There are probably 50 or more wiki articles for new bands submitted per day, and 48 of them get marked for deletion. Because of the volume of new articles, I must stick to WP:MUSIC as my criteria, and I hope this band will soon be able to meet them MNewnham 15:05, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the article Kramus

[edit]

Please don't blank the AFD page, as this is regarded as vandalism. Please check WP:MUSIC, and feel free to provide additional references to establish if this is a notable band at the AFD debate. Bjelleklang - talk 22:30, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
