I think this draft is ready for mainspace, and would like your opinion. I have moved the list to the talk page for now, to develop a specific consensus as to whether it should be included, and what the criteria for inclusion on the list should be—I do not think it should be limited to subjects with a Wikipedia article, but should include those who fall below general encyclopedic notability, but are still noteworthy in context for their political office, or degree of involvement in antivaccine activities. James Kerzman

[edit]

It probably doesn't really matter, but I think your comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Emmet, North Dakota that James Kerzman left 15 orphaned children is incorrect. The death occured in 1965 and Kerzman died in 2015. I think Kerzman is, in fact, one of the orphaned children and the James Kerzman who was killed was his father. The 19-year-old "Jimmy" reported in the 1966 newspaper must have been born in 1947, the correct year of Kerzman's birth. SpinningSpark 09:41, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Montie

[edit]

Hi there. I saw your revert at Montie. A couple of comments on the edit summary. Name lists like Montie are not disambiguation pages per MOS:DABNAME: Articles only listing persons with a certain given name or surname, known as anthroponymy articles, are not disambiguation pages... Thus, WP:NOTSEEALSO seems applicable. Per WP:HATMISSPELL, spelling variations can be appropriate for hatnotes: They are typically used when readers have misspelled their desired title... Let me know your thoughts. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 07:35, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bagumba: NOTSEEALSO says one thing, but in practice, I don't see it being enforced. However, you can revert me if you wish. Clarityfiend (talk) 11:55, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I decided to restore it. While this page is short enough where a reader can arguably see the "See also" in one glance, I think it's good to be consistent with other pages where the list is longer. I know a lot of editors just think of these page as dabs. However, as long as MOS:DABNAME says they are not, I think it's good to be consistent with other articles, where if the reader ends up at a page they are not expecting, they are immediately guided to other options via hatnotes. Thanks again for discussing this.—Bagumba (talk) 10:34, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AFC Helper News

[edit]

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. @Steventhomson: None of the references are about him; he barely gets passing mentions, so he fails WP:GNG. You can ask for as many reviews as you want, but you'll get the same verdict. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:45, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of people known as the Accursed has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Edit for List of Fantasy Worlds.

[edit]

Hi Clarityfiend, My name is Tyson Colman. I have just set up my account for Wikipedia. I am a first time author of a fantasy novel. I have been trying to add the world I have created to the List of Fantasy Worlds page. I have seen that you reverted my edit, And I was just asking what it is that I have done incorrectly. I can add references to my publisher if that is required. I would also like to create an entry for the book series itself.

Kind Regards, Tyson Colman. Tyson Colman (talk) 02:43, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not for free advertising or self-WP:promotion. If your novel or series has been reviewed by multiple WP:reliable sources, e.g. Kirkus Reviews, then it can be considered. Clarityfiend (talk) 02:46, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for responding. I will look into Kirkus Reviews, and add WP:reliable sources. Have a great day. Tyson Colman (talk) 02:52, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 05:26:00, 25 April 2022 for assistance on AfC submission by LynnieWhitmore

[edit]

The reason given for the new page for record producer and engineer Marc Whitmore being denied is not a valid reason for rejection. This person is a notable fixture in the New Mexico music and culture scene, as well as in Nashville TN. He has collaborated with multiple Grammy Award winners, engineering mainstream albums, and is himself a Grammy Award winner (not sure why "win" was put in quotations..). He owns a recording studio and has worked with Danger Mouse, The Black Keys, Michelle Branch, Jon Batiste, and multiple more across the country. He is also a multi-instrumentalist, has engineered music for Bojack Horseman and What's Eating America. Winning an Album of the Year Grammy is just one accomplishment of many, and the comment left came off as rude and condescending. This person is a notable figure in engineering and recording and there should be a wikipedia page for them.

LynnieWhitmore (talk) 05:26, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@LynnieWhitmore: Sorry you feel that way, but a win shared by many does not carry much weight. The St. Augustine High School Marching 100, Gospel Soul Children Choir and Hot 8 Brass Band also shared that Grammy. Do they deserve articles too? Also, media notice is sorely lacking: this is a major, major problem. Working with notable artists does not make one notable as well. You can resubmit the draft as many times as you want. I strongly believe other reviewers will give you the same verdict. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:12, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your argument concerning WP:GEOLAND is correct, but it doesn't make WP:NOTABILITY redundant. The place must be proven to be populated and you need at least one source for that, which given the size of the settlement shouldn't be hard. But any unsourced article typically doesn't belong on the site. So, just find a reliable source and then you can rest assured the article is ok but until then it's a redirect. Draft: Jesse Peter, Jr.

[edit]

The rejection for lack of notability disagrees with that of 27 July 2021 by Timtrent. Peter certainly was locally notable and worked with anthropologists and professors at UC Berkeley. It was a much smaller world there -- not the thousands of PhDs we have today. Might you reconsider the not-notable conclusion? Thanks.MikeVdP (talk) 05:31, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MikeVdP: "Locally notable" is another way of saying not notable as far as Wikipedia is concerned. The sourcing, as reviewer Hoary also noted, simply isn't there. However, I don't believe my rejection means you can't keep resubmitting the draft, though I strongly doubt the result will be any different. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:57, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

La Montagne family

[edit]

Hello Clarityfiend, on 15 June 2022 you declined the submission of the Draft:De La Montagne. The author of the draft Philip.anno.1976 who is responsable in different Wkipedias of a hoax about this family La Montagne (of which he is a member) he presents as a descendant of the House of Faucogney (became extinct in the 14th Century) republished the article under a different title... Is there a way to put this article in immediate deletion because his obsession is al ot of wasted time for others. Thanks --Belyny (talk) 06:37, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Belyny: Without knowing what the new article is called, I have no way of knowing if any of the WP:SPEEDY deletion criteria come into play. Why not just nominate it for deletion, i.e. WP:AfD (and WP:SALTING)? Clarityfiend (talk) 08:01, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Clarityfiend: the new title of the article is La Montagne family. --Belyny (talk) 13:51, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Belyny: I can't figure out if it's a hoax or just a routine, unnotable family in the diamond business, so SPEEDY is out. I'm going to nominate it for deletion normally. Clarityfiend (talk) 01:57, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Needles" listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

An editor has identified a potential problem with the redirect Needles and has thus listed it for discussion. This discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 August 24#Needles until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Thryduulf (talk) 17:31, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you remove Will (law) from the plural DAB page? Yes the singular DAB lists it as well but it is a use of the plural as well like Cats, see Talk:Piers#Singular entries. Perhaps if anything like Cats (disambiguation) Wills should redirect to the legal document but at least it should be at the top of the DAB page. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:31, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Crouch, Swale: It's handled very awkwardly in the dab page (unlike cats, where it flows naturally), but it's not worth fighting over. Clarityfiend (talk) 11:49, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think it should be in the "Other uses" section instead? Its normal to put the main meaning at the top even if it doesn't have primary topic status. The corresponding category is Category:Wills and trusts. Crouch, Swale (talk) 12:03, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe as a hatnote ("For the legal document, see Will and testament."). Clarityfiend (talk) 12:11, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
DAB pages do not normally have hatnotes unless they are for a confusingly similar spelling. As mentioned previously WP:PTM says "Add a link only if the article's subject (or the relevant subtopic thereof) could plausibly be referred to by essentially the same name as the disambiguated term in a sufficiently generic context—regardless of the article's title". I can discuss this at WT:D if you think its useful but just because an article has a different title doesn't mean it can't be included on the DAB. Crouch, Swale (talk) 12:24, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How about "Wills are legal documents. Will may also refer to:"? Clarityfiend (talk) 12:30, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes we could format it that way (though I'd use the redirect Will (law) rather than pipe though generally that format is only used when there is a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:16, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just how would you phrase it with "Will (law)"? I don't see any way that isn't clumsy. Clarityfiend (talk) 23:40, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Warden

[edit]

Hi Clarityfiend, your edit here has created a bit of a problem. If editors wish to link to the DAB pa Warden using the proper format, they will end up at a Warden (disambiguation), a different disambiguation page. Would it be appropriate to move Warden to something like Warden (title) and put the DAB page at Warden? Leschnei (talk) 12:47, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Leschnei: I don't understand what you're saying in your second sentence, but it appears that you don't believe that the job title is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. I think it is, but not strongly enough to object to the dab page being moved to Warden. Clarityfiend (talk) 00:13, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the job title is the primary topic. The problem is that both Warden and Warden (disambiguation) are disambiguation pages. It's purely a technical problem; per WP:INTDAB intentional links to DAB pages should always go through a redirect whose title includes '(disambiguation)', to make it clear that it is not an error. So there is no way to correctly link to Warden. Well-meaning editors could change these links to Warden (disambiguation) without realizing their error. I'm not sure of the best solution, which is why I brought it up here. Leschnei (talk) 12:37, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The issue I have is that the entries on Warden don't all belong on a dab page. Many of them are only partial matches (Lord Wardon of the this and that). Clarityfiend (talk) 20:56, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, do you think people known as "the Elder" could belong here, or rather in a dedicated list? Lone-078 (talk) 12:18, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lone-078:. A separate list. The meanings are distinct (c.f. List of people known as the Wise and List of people known as the Learned). Clarityfiend (talk) 05:13, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Which also opens up the addition of List of people known as the Younger. Clarityfiend (talk) 05:14, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lone-078:. I've created List of people known as the Younger, so consistency of format would be appreciated. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:56, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 21:14:24, 7 November 2022 for assistance on AfC submission by Ajo47

[edit]

The article on George Ockner has been rejected. I have two issues needing assistance. First, I was told the editor could not access the New York Times obituary of George Ockner. Since this is behind a firewall but I have access to it, how can I actually provide the article to Wikipedia editors? I have seen other references to NYT obits on other people's Wikipedia pages. Please advise.

The second thing I would like to discuss is that many of George Ockner's musician colleagues who worked with him in the recording industry during the 1950s and 1960s have Wikipedia pages, and some of them have much less verifiable sources listed. I wonder why there is this discrepancy in Wikipedia standards for articles. I would be happy to give you a list of these other artists. Thank you for your consideration. Ajo47 (talk) 21:14, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ajo47 (talk) 21:14, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ajo47: If Ockner were notable, there would have been obituaries in other newspapers. I have a newspapers.com subscription via Wikipedia. I can find no such obituaries. There are some articles about him being a promising violinist in the '30s, but those aren't enough IMO. In the '40s, all he gets is passing mentions.
As for colleagues, first read WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Second, if you wish, send me a list and I will evaluate at least a few of them. Clarityfiend (talk) 03:56, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your consideration. I cited three other obituaries besides the New York Times (Ockner worked in Manhattan and many other places, but lived in Mount Vernon and Pittsburgh in different parts of his life): The Mount Vernon Daily Argus, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and the Jewish Exponent.
Ockner was usually hired to be the concertmaster (leader of the violin section) and he usually played the violin solos during recording sessions, in his later career when he was a studio musician. Evidence that he was concertmaster and soloist is found on record labels and album liner notes in recordings in my partial discography. The job of concertmaster or soloist in any orchestra is significant. The fact that he was Major Glenn Miller's chosen concertmaster, arranger of music for the string section, and soloist in the Army Air Forces Orchestra during WW II is very significant, and would be understood by any musician with a knowledge of American music of the 20th century, especially jazz. It would also be understood by those who study American military history. The concertmaster in an orchestra directs the string section in terms of bowings and other musical notations used by all, and he/she often has the added responsibility of recruiting the rest of the string players for recording sessions. There is only one concertmaster in an orchestra.
Below is a list of his colleagues who often were part of the recording orchestras in the recording studios, and I mean to add this list to the article draft:

My apologies...

[edit]

Dear colleague,
Thank you for your guidance and for reverting my edit. As a word of explanation: after creating an article for the 1955 film The Hornet's Nest directed by Charles Saunders, I also created a navbox for his films using his entry at the BFI archive as a source[1] and carried on with updating articles about his other films. I was intrigued by the fact that, after directing No Exit in 1930, he chose to focus on editing and cutting before returning to directing in 1944 until retiring in 1963. I therefore resolved to check that his role as editor was reflected in all infoboxes and, in the absence of a "|cutting=" infobox parameter, I decided to reflect that role with the edit that you noticed and reverted. I had done the same in four other articles, now reverted also. Thank you once again for your advice, and please accept my apologies for causing you unnecessary work.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 14:21, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
