ITN recognition for Jim Gregory (ice hockey)

On 31 October 2019, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Jim Gregory (ice hockey), which you nominated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. SpencerT•C 02:18, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi Connormah. Someone edited Gerry Duguid's page to say that he lived in Illinois. If so, he's most likely the Gerald C. Duguid born December 22, 1929, living in Wheeling, Illinois. There is a 1993 burial in Winnipeg for a Gerald Duguid, but if he is still alive, then that is obviously not him. Just thought this might help you find more info in reliable sources. Notice

The file File:Detroit Public TV Logo.svg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free former logo whose use in WTVS fails WP:NFCC#8. Non-free former logos are sometimes allowed when they themselves are the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-4, but that's not the case here.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:04, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Ralph Mellanby

There might be some small typos in the Ralph Mellanby article. Could you please check the phrase, "cameras mounted on rolling tracks and to athletes, as well a four high speed cameras for slow motion footage"? I'm not sure what to make of it. Flibirigit (talk) 03:58, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

Good luck

Hi Connormah. I think there's a good chance that the deceased Roy Pella mentioned in this woman's obituary is the Olympian Gino Roy Pella. I'm pretty sure the Olympic Roy Pella was still alive in 1984, so that would place his DOD between 1984 and 2011 if the notice above refers to him. Might offer a clue for further research! DYK for Ralph Mellanby

On 2 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ralph Mellanby, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ralph Mellanby's production of the 1988 Winter Olympics for CTV used a television lens described as the "world's longest", for the ski jumping events? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ralph Mellanby. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ralph Mellanby), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Collingwood Football Club Logo.svg

Thank you for uploading File:Collingwood Football Club Logo.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — JJMC89(T·C) 03:45, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Thomas Baker (general) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. MNB9911 (talk) 08:45, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

Devon Toews

Hey, I was thinking of nominating Devon Toews for GA status. Would you want to co-nom with me? I think with a little bit of work on his international and personal life it would be an easy GA pass. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:03, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

@HickoryOughtShirt?4: - sorry I missed this earlier! I definitely think that it is likely very close to GA status as well, thanks to your great work on it. I'd be happy to give it a readthrough and make some minor adjustments prior to a nom if you were hoping to get the ball rolling soon but at this time I'm afraid I've been really busy in real life and won't have too much time to work on/expand the article extensively (though in a few months perhaps I may be able to). Let me know! Connormah (talk) 05:23, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply . I'm currently working on getting Travis Dermott to GA status (should be able to nominate soon) but I thought as the creator of Toews' article it was only fair to ask you to be included. I'll see where I'm at in a couple of days and if you have time could copyedit/make minor adjustments. I know this is a trying time and hope you and your family is safe. I understand that Wikipedia is probably the last thing on your mind right now. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:32, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Bill Fitsell

On 19 December 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Bill Fitsell, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that journalist Bill Fitsell was reportedly scared of driving since he covered accidents? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Bill Fitsell. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Bill Fitsell), and it may be added to the statistics page if it received over 400 views per hour. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Orphaned image - copyrighted or not copyrighted?

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

A kitten for you!

Hi Connormah! I just want to thank you for tracing Jo Jorgensen's signature. I'm not sure if you did it in response to my request (because that was a while ago and was archived), but it's a big improvement to the page and you have my thanks.

― Tartan357 Talk 06:39, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

@Tartan357: - not a problem at all! I had seen your original request but unfortunately kept forgetting, my apologies! Connormah (talk) 07:31, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

@Connormah: - I'm not sure exactly how this talk page stuff works, but the SVG you made of the State of Alabama UJS seal has a typo in it. Tennessee has 3 e's at the end of it and should only have 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Seal_of_the_Unified_Judicial_System_of_Alabama.svg - TommyHarris82 3:24 PM January 21, 2021 (UTC)

Current templates

Why are these "unnecessary"? Editors keep changing the infoboxes due to confusion over when the transitions actually occur. This is exactly what the templates are for. ― Tartan357 Talk 20:13, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

In fact, editors repeated premature edits to Dick Durbin right after you removed the template. ― Tartan357 Talk 20:20, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

@Tartan357: - per the documentation at Template:Current, these tags are generally only used when there are hundreds of edits and users editing at the same time in a day. Connormah (talk) 22:15, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
Connormah, thanks, I'll keep that in mind in the future. I've already removed them from most of the pages, as the transitions have now occured. ― Tartan357 Talk 22:15, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

U.S. Senators' signatures

Hey Connormah, this pdf has many signatures of U.S. Senators in it, many of which have not been uploaded to Wikimedia. I noticed that you have uploaded many SVG signatures of notable people, and could you do the same for the senators in this document as well? Thanks. -- Politicsfan4 (talk) 00:30, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

@Politicsfan4: - thanks! Will see what I can do over the next little while. Connormah (talk) 19:32, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Connor. One more to check if you have the time: I'm pretty sure that Daniel Haller is still alive, but I can't find a source. Maybe you can find something? Canadian Paul 02:58, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

George Armstrong

I will be nice about this. I am George Armstrong’s old friend and I know for a fact that the information I am putting out there is true. Bryce was at that game not on the ice but in the stands. That is what I mean by we won by his side because Bryce was there. So please stop reverting my edits. It makes me very sad and all I am trying to do is honour my good friend George. Fleddimen13 (talk) 23:30, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Fleddimen13, I am sorry to hear that, but that information is not suitable for inclusion in an encyclopedic biography and is not supported by any sources. You might also might want to review WP:NOTMEMORIAL. Connormah (talk) 00:39, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Help appreciated

Hi Connormah, wonder if you could take a look at the talk page for Al Besselink, as well as look at the edit I'm trying to achieve here then perhaps leave your own comments on the talk page. I have a pedantic user fighting me on this so I'd value a second opinion. I have the day off tomorrow so going to tackle that Hines page also. Hoping I don't run into a similar problem to this on there. Thanks! --Jkaharper (talk) 22:12, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Jkaharper, I suggest perhaps raising this elsewhere in the future as it's apparent that any further discussion at this point is just a waste of time and energy. Connormah (talk) 21:04, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Totally agreed. I’m in the process of trying to get in touch with GOLF.com. Sadly they don’t seem too responsive. If I can’t get a new source within the next fortnight or so, I’m going to revert back to using the veteran burial record index. If that user still has an issue, despite a consensus against him on the talk page, he is free to challenge it with higher powers himself. I imagine he will lose. In the past when I’ve had to take things like birth/death records to administrators for final approval via the ticketing system, they’ve sided with reason and common sense, rather than the one or two users on here that have become so wound up in a rule book that they’ve lost all concept of rationality. I really do know like that user’s tone. I find him to be hostile and uncompromising. He’s threatened me on my talk page. A quick glance at his talk page history reveals him not to be the respected experienced editor he makes out, but rather someone who has in the past been banned for edit warring. Thank you for contributing your thoughts. I really do appreciate it and hopefully this will be another biography that gets properly resolved soon! Thanks again --Jkaharper (talk) 21:43, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi connor I know for a fact that Bryce Black was george armstrongs best friend because i was his good friend myself. Can you please stop reverting it i am just trying to honor George. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.185.78.226 (talk) 16:50, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Connormah. Just wanted to give you a courtesy note that after a decade of semi-protection, I've requested that Axolotl be unprotected. Hi-I started an article about William Belanger. I made a mistake in doing this because there is another article William V. Belanger Jr. the same person. The William Belanger article needs to be either deleted or merged into the William V. Belanger Jr. article. I should had paid better attention and I take full responsibility for the error. The William V. Belanger Jr. article has more information and should be kept. Thank You-RFD (talk) 20:56, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

RFD - Not a problem at all. It seems that the other article probably should been under the title you started the new one under anyways. Did you want to merge the info of the new one into the other before do the merge? Connormah (talk) 22:39, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Jean Lee (aircraftwoman)

Hi Connormah, I just noticed you created the Jean Lee (aircraftwoman) page. Have you come across any indication of what became of her? There is an Ancestry family tree (albeit really minimal and unsourced) of a "Jean Lee" born 1924 and a "Buck Lew". Says she died in California, USA circa 2012. Could this be them? A forename for her spouse "Lew" could crack this one. Thanks again --Jkaharper (talk) 19:05, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Jkaharper - it's personal knowledge as she is a relative, but she is still alive and living in the Eastern US. The Cranbrook paper was going to do a followup on their story ([2]) on her but it hasn't materialized yet. Connormah (talk) 19:07, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Johnny Shore

Sorry Connormah, me again! Another superb find. A query about the Globe and Mail – I see it's not on Newspapers.com (and I'm guessing not Press Reader?) and it is definitely one of these papers I could do with looking through in future when I'm trying to find info for other Wiki bios. Is there a way to look at their articles online for free? I've found their historical archive page on Google but it's asking me for a Canadian library card, which I don't have as I'm in the UK! Cheers --Jkaharper (talk) 20:52, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Jkaharper - not that I'm aware of, I'm afraid. It's available through ProQuest through a number of Canadian libraries, but I'm not sure if there is another way to gain access or a subscription. Connormah (talk) 22:29, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Connormah – Dangit. Well if I get any blanks with Canadian bios I'll be pinging them your way! Haha --Jkaharper (talk) 00:38, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Connormah, anything on Lorne Parkin? I see you created the page. I think the Shore find makes him the only member of that team still unaccounted for. --Jkaharper (talk) 15:02, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Jkaharper - just located that he died in 1992, I've updated the page. Connormah (talk) 23:24, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Connormah – Bravo! These finds are great; a big chunk of names in limbo off my watchlist since the start of this year. I've just seen the below conversation regarding Art Potter. I've located his Thanet, Kent birth record from 1909, though it's only available to order. I have some free credits on the GRO Index website so I've requested a copy. I'll upload it here when it comes! --Jkaharper (talk) 00:00, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Frank M. Gibson

Last one from me on Canadian football – I promise! Frank M. Gibson... have you seen this? Forename, Surname and middle initial would check out, as would the age, as would location of Hamilton. Needs something else to verify it's the same person though. Is there anything else which would link the two? --Jkaharper (talk) 22:30, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

On January 29, 2013 you placed the pending changes protection (as far as I can tell, without a specific expiration date) on the Ignatius of Loyola article. It appears that the article has remained under the PC protection since then. Could you please unprotect the article? Per the WP:PCPP policy, "indefinite PC protection should be used only in cases of severe long-term disruption", and that's not the case here. The article page history has been pretty quiet and there has been no vandalism attempts in the last three months, as far as I can tell. Thanks, Nsk92 (talk) 21:30, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
