Re: Programs
Get it here. If you have Microsoft Excel, use my "ACE_Template.xls" instead of the program; I could add a lot more using Excel. My ACE program is "ACECalcsIII_b6a2.zip"; it is a command-line program. Finally, "Lat and Long Coord Finder.zip" is there as well. -- RattleMan 05:23, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

In response to your question on IRC: Cyclonebiskit and Juliancolton have both got snow from the Noreaster that Melor contributed too. In fact most of the United States had some impact from Melor from Guam to New York. Jason Rees (talk) 20:09, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!
To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.
It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:
- Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
- Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
- Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
- Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
- Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
- Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! On behalf of the WikiCup judges, iMatthew talk at 03:40, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Cyclone Data
Data on current and recent storms is available on the NRL Monterey server, with names like
I haven't found a way to make the map plotter process data in this format so I convert it to the HURDAT format used in the Atlantic and East Pacific historic data files. You can transcribe it manually, or if that gets too tedious I have an Excel spreadsheet with a short VBA macro to re-format a single storm, which can then be included in a cumulative file - I keep one for each cyclone basin. I can let you have the spreadsheet if it would be of use.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 11:46, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
- You should be able to download the spreadsheet from here: http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/NRLConvert.xls . It's a bit crude but it seems to work with the most recently active cyclones.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 21:30, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Cyclone Season (Full Year thing)
First, I am making one like yours, but I need help with the names being formatted I want it to stop at Ester, then start a new column like there is on the cyclone names page. User:Syntheticalconnections/2010_Cyclone_"Pool"
Second, I'd like to see your Cyclone 2009 showing the more recent storms. Syntheticalconnections (talk) 22:59, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Last chance to confirm your WikiCup participation!
Hi Iune! This is the last message that will go out to remind you that in order to participate in the 2010 WikiCup, you MUST remove your name from this list! Again, the reason for this reconfirmation is to ensure you've looked over the updated point values (which were different at the time you signed up) and to ensure that you are still interested in competing! If you don't have time to participate or no longer wish to, ignore this message and leave your name on the list. All names on the list will be removed from the contestants list before the Cup starts. Cheers! iMatthew talk at 14:15, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Cyclone Maps problem
The HURDAT files do not contain any marker to show whether the longitude is east or west (or the latitude north or south), presumably because the format was devised for the Atlantic and East Pacific which are always N & W. The map drawing program also defaults to N & W, so to tell it otherwise you have to include on the command line --negx 0 (for east longitude) or --negy 1 (for south latitude). Of course this means each HURDAT file has to use the same convention throughout, which could be a problem in the S Pacific basin which straddles the date line. I have now updated my spreadsheet to convert the entire southern hemisphere to east longitude, ie the portion between 180 and 120W is stored as a value between 180 and 240 "east", which the map program seems to be able to handle. You can download the current version from the same place ready for any storms in that part of the pacific.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 09:21, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Tropical cyclones WikiProject Newsletter #29
The Hurricane Herald This is the monthly newsletter of WikiProject Tropical Cyclones. The Hurricane Herald aims to give a summary of the WikiProject's progress and global tropical cyclone activity. If you wish to change how you receive this newsletter, or no longer wish to receive it, please add your username to the appropriate section on the mailing list. Please visit this page and bookmark any suggestions of interest to you. This will help improve monitoring of the WikiProject's articles. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
From the editors
The project has gone since August without a newsletter, due to a lack of interest in its publication and development. This issue aims to catch up on major events and milestones since late summer 2009, and set a series of goals for the upcoming hurricane seasons. Your help in writing future issues is appreciated. Tropical cyclone activity Typhoons Morakot, Ketsana, and Parma caused extensive damage to China, Taiwan, Philippines, and Vietnam in August and September. Their collective damages total in the billions of dollars and each storm caused hundreds of fatalities. All three of the storms' names were subsequently retired. Member of the month Thegreatdr (talk · contribs) is thanked for his tireless improvement of high-profile tropical cyclone and general meteorology articles; his production of rainfall maps for individual storms; and for his willingness to share his expertise where needed. Thegreatdr is largely responsible for the project's continued success, and has been instrumental in resolving many debates and discussions. Members New and improved articles Goals for the upcoming season Nonetheless, the project should encourage new editors to get involved; for this purpose the standard Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones/Invite template may be used. The project should also make an effort to evaluate existing recognized content. A Project audit of featured articles has been proposed; ideally, each article should be reviewed for continued compliance with the FA criteria. Articles that no longer meet the criteria may be nominated for demotion, or alternatively, improved and updated. Main Page content Article statistics

track.c
I have put my version at http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/track.c
This version incorporates 3 changes which I had to make, for it to work with the Windows GNU C compiler mingw32 - they are marked KE-FIX. In summary: Define
const double M_PI = 3.14159265358979323846;
Specify file open in binary mode
file = fopen(args->output, "w+b");
Comment out two lines relating to an input option not supported by the subroutines provided. On looking again this was't necessary-- I had forgotten to compile tcr.c
/*} else if (strcasecmp(format, "tcr") == 0) { */ /* storms = read_stormdata_tcr(storms, &args.storm[i]); */
Hope this is some help.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 15:58, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I can offer any further help. I bashed it into shape to compile and run on a Windows system with mingw32. The way I did it doesn't seem produce to produce track.o - it goes straight to a windows executable track.exe. What system are you using? What is the error at line 25 - I guess a duplicate definition? On reflection I doubt whether any of my suggested changes above were helpful. What was the nature of the "the file that does not work for me" you originally had on track.c?--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 16:59, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
- The error seems to mean that M_PI is already defined, so that change isn't needed, and the only other change I made to the version from http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/tropicalcyclone/trunk/tracks/ is Windows specific, so I really don't think I can be of any help. Sorry.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 18:10, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
- I can email you my copy of track.c, but you have email disabled on your preferences... Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 20:15, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
2003-04 South Pacific seasonal track map
