Redirects to special pages
Will you please restore Wikipedia:Ancientpages. A very similar redirect survived a deletion discussion, albeit about a decade ago: Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2009 May 8#Redirects to special pages. Will you also please restore Wikipedia:CATALL (it is an interesting case because it includes a search parameter, but it is still functional). No prejudice against RfD(s); the former is seemingly an appropriate and old redirect, while the latter would potentially stimulate a good discussion regarding an unusual situation. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 10:03, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- Done and converted to soft redirects — JJMC89 04:18, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
Bug re inactive admins
Hello, JJMC89 bot failed to post to Wikipedia:Inactive administrators/2021 this month even though it sent several notifications out to inactive admins. Graham87 04:16, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the not Graham87, please check if there is a problem posting to Wikipedia:Inactive administrators/2021, if it needs to be initiated manually let me know please. — xaosflux Talk 04:21, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- One way or the other, issue appears to be resolved now. — xaosflux Talk 22:19, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Graham87 and Xaosflux: It crashed when it tried to notify Cydebot on its protected talk page, so it didn't complete the notifications or update the log. I fixed the script to handle that case. You'll see the blank cell in the table where Cydebot didn't receive a talk page notification. FYI, it would still report if there are no inactive admins in a given month. — JJMC89 04:45, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

User:Norasky53
Hi JJMC89. I’m having no luck with this editor at Manith Jupiter, etc. I’m beginning to think that their English ability (or lack thereof) is starting to move them into into WP:CIR and WP:IDHT territory. There might be other issues at play as well per User talk:Sir Sputnik#User:PPSOfficial and c:User talk:Gbawden#User:Norasky53, but for whatever reason they keep getting in their own way and either don’t understand or don’t care about all of the warnings they’re being given on Wikipedia and Commons.
In their last edit to c:File:Manith Jupiter Profile 2020.jpg, they tried to add a WP:FUR to a Commons file which seems to have unintentionally caused the file to be nominated for speedy deletion. I personally tend to see blocks as a last resort, but I can’t think of any other way to try and get this editor to slow down and seek assistance, particularly with respect to images.
Finally, I think IP 163.53.197.173 is also somehow connected to all of this since it’s basically editing the same pages on both Commons and Wikipedia as Norasky53. I’m asking you since you’re an admin, SPI clerk and also somewhat familiar with the situation and might be able to suggest how to best proceed. Any ideas? — Marchjuly (talk) 03:51, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- This looks resolved here and on Commons. — JJMC89 04:30, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking on this. I saw that the account was blocked on both after I posted here. I meant to post an update here for you but never got around to it. — Marchjuly (talk) 05:42, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
Copyright issues- Sri Lanka Army flags
Pretty sure those flags you've gone and placed Di-fails NFCC notices on are actually public domain- I'd move them to Commons, but I don't know if I can given your notice on the files. - ක - (talk) 00:58, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Why are they PD? If they are, then why did you upload them as non-free? — JJMC89 23:14, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Image for Hawkeye Vol. 5 Issue 1 permission
Hello JJMC89, I have noticed your recent change but this doesn't apply so can I have the permission to use it and I am only using it in sandbox. Kohcohf (talk) 13:06, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- I didn't make the edit that I assume you are referring to. What doesn't apply, the policy? It most certainly does. I cannot give you permission to violate policy. — JJMC89 03:11, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

Bot links to wrong month (Dec 2020 instead of Jan 2021)
Hi bot, you are linking to the wrong page in your edit summary. You should link to Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 January 12, not Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2020 December 12. Sincerely --Distelfinck (talk) 23:56, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Mistaken edit summary by JJMC89 bot III?
I just noticed the deletion of Category:Participants in the 2021 storming of the United States Capitol, which the bot performed with a link to Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2020 December 12. However, the discussion was at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 January 12. Any idea why this would be? GorillaWarfare (talk) 23:57, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- @GorillaWarfare: The Bushranger specified the incorrect discussion page. — JJMC89 03:31, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- Facepalm Ugh, I can't believe I missed that. I'll fix the category page at least. - The Bushranger One ping only 03:37, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- I see @DragonflySixtyseven: got to it already. Thank you. I've noticed before the "blank" syntax in the CFD/W sections is often old and I knew that was gonna happen eventually. - The Bushranger One ping only 03:38, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, thanks! GorillaWarfare (talk) 03:40, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

Category:Murdered activists removals
Hi... I see that the bot is removing the now-deleted category:murdered activists from article pages following the CfD. I saw this edit to the David Kato article and also this one at murder of Prashanth Poojary. The CfD discussion suggested that the category:assassinated activists be added in suitable cases, presumably where the murder was motivated by the activism. I have made that addition to the Kato article but wonder if having the bot remove the red category links means that no one is considering whether to add the alternative category to the articles where "murdered activists" has been removed? EdChem (talk) 12:45, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
- @EdChem: I'm guessing not unless they noticed like you. Good Olfactory closed the discussion and instructed the bot. With that close, I would have expected a selective merge before being deleted. Here are the relevant bot edits in case someone would like to check the other articles that William Allen Simpson didn't recategorize during the discussion. — JJMC89 02:45, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Updating archive bot settings when moving a page
Hi! You moved 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict to 2014 Gaza War, and the talk page and its archive subpages. When you do that, please also update the |archive=
parameter in {{User:MiszaBot/config}}
, so that talk page archiving continues to work. Thank you! --rchard2scout (talk) 08:46, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking care of that. I forgot. — JJMC89 03:49, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Kalwakurthy
It looks like Ankith yannam first moved Kalwakurthy to Talk:Kalwakurthy_CITY where it was deleted under G8. Ankith has since recreated something in Talk:Kalwakurthy_CITY. Could you restore the deleted page and move it back to Kalwakurthy where the orphaned Talk:Kalwakurthy is still present? Sam Sailor 08:56, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi, I assume the latest reversion to the above was a bot edit; it restored a string of nonsense letters that were added a couple of seconds before. I've restored the correct version. Cheers to you! Haploidavey (talk) 18:46, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. I shouldn't have reverted but ticked the wrong box when blocking them. — JJMC89 21:34, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Ummm... you might want to check the contributions of the user you blocked. The user's edits (User:TrigZyx) look OK to me. Regards, Haploidavey (talk) 18:55, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Their abusive edits are deleted. — JJMC89 21:34, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Aha. Thanks for that (I thought your bot might have gone on a wobbly :-)Haploidavey (talk) 22:24, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Portal:United States/United States news/Wikinews is outdated
User:JJMC89 bot/Wikinews importer hasn't updated the page Portal:United States/United States news/Wikinews with content from wikinews:Portal:United States/Wikipedia in six months. It seems that Wikinews importer hasn't been updating a lot of portal subpages, e.g. Portal:Film/Film news/Wikinews used as an example in documentation hasn't been updated in more than a year. —andrybak (talk) 10:50, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- That task has been offline since Pywikibot stopped supporting Python 2 last year. (Python 2 is past EOL.) I've started it up again. — JJMC89 22:35, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Please Help
A friend of mine suggested me to create an article about a poet and author Asif Tariq Bhat but it seems that there is something going on about the same subject. I would request you please grant me permission to create the article of the said subject I have collected some strong references. I will be thankful for your help. Sardar Nadir Ali (talk) 21:29, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- The article was deleted after community discussion, so you don't have permission to create it. — JJMC89 21:36, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. Can't it be created again in future by anyone? Sardar Nadir Ali (talk) 15:26, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- I am extremely thankful for your reply I just want to ask that when will be the ban lifted and when I or someone else may get permission to create the said subjects Article? Sardar Nadir Ali (talk) 18:00, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- If the concerns in the discussion are addressed, then an article may be created. I suggest that when that happens to start with a draft. — JJMC89 04:20, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

Draft proposal about AIV
Hi! There's a draft proposal about a small step towards block unbundling. I noticed you do a lot of WP:PERM/R, so I was wondering if you had any comments on the proposal. Specifically, two important open questions are how many people we expect to apply for/get the role, and how high to set the bar for granting it. Thank you. Enterprisey (talk!) 04:36, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
CFD Speedy redirect
Hi, thanks again for all your excellent bot work.
Please can you add the "REDIRECT" function for a Speedy merge at WP:CFDW? I think this currently works for a Speedy move, and for a regular merge or move, but not for a Speedy merge (e.g. [1]). – Fayenatic London 22:14, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Fayenatic london: Because it is listed in a move section, the bot is performing a move, not a merge. If you list it in the merge section, it will work. The speedy moves section doesn't have any special functionality; it's just a second move section. — JJMC89 05:11, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Request to become rollbacker
Hello! You refused my request to become a rollbacker. I would like you to give me some advice to reach this milestone. Dr Salvus (talk) 14:02, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- First, you need to provide a reason when requesting. Second, you need to have experience with counter-vandalism. — JJMC89 05:13, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Bot stuttering
FYI the bot has been processing categories for a few minutes at a time then stopping for ages before resuming all afternoon. Timrollpickering (talk) 17:55, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Timrollpickering: Thanks for letting me know. This was due to a new Pywikibot release over the weekend. I've gone back to the old version to get it working properly again. — JJMC89 05:18, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
CAT:MISPLACED
Hey, could you please restore CAT:MISPLACED and retarget it to Category:Pages with templates in the wrong namespace. Thanks, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 02:22, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- On an aside, do you think Category:Pages with misplaced templates would be a good category redirect? Warm regards, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 02:27, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- Restored. Redirecting when merging is usually at closer discretion or up to whoever wants to create it after a merge. Its reasonable in this case. — JJMC89 08:48, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Stop Taking Images of my articles
Hello, You keep removing my images on my non-fanon articles and it's Getting really annoying. So I politely ask you to stop removing my images from my articles if you continue I am going to block myself from editing Kat885 (talk) 02:40, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- @JJMC89: In addition to the repeated violations of NFCC#9, Draft:Minecraft when Steve isn't online and Draft:Pango and friends: the movie seem like fan fiction/hoaxes per WP:G3 that have no chance of ever becoming articles, don't they? Moreover, the claim of copyright ownership at the "Draft:Pango and friends: the movie" seems to be completely against the Wikipedia's licensing terms per WP:COPY. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:11, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Could you please explain...
Could you please explain this edit? I already reduced the size of this image, before I uploaded it. Geo Swan (talk) 09:31, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- You didn't reduce it enough then. — JJMC89 04:08, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, so which wikidocument did you consult when you considered asking for a further reduction? Geo Swan (talk) 09:24, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
- WP:IMAGERES is the relevant guideline, which is linked in the edit summary and the template being added. — JJMC89 09:37, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
