Yes. I'm being serious.

You made several date and spelling changes to the article three days ago. This goes against both WP:DATERET and WP:RETAIN. And instead of attempting to obtain a consenus for these changes on the talk page, you blindly reverted the restoration of the previous date and spelling formats. Experianced editors should know the guidelines and rules when editing Wikipedia. I don't know why you are acting like this. You should know better.--JOJ Hutton 14:00, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

You reverted thirteen of my edits to the article, including various copyedits, new content to the technical specifications section and the addition of five new images. The date formats were inconsistent. I was going to make a start to bringing the article to GA, my first steps were to clean up the structure. I'm astounded that you reverted literally everything. ♦ jaguar 14:11, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
I reverted literally everthing because your edits were massive and against the guidelines. You obtained no cosensus for this massive change in date format and spelling. I'm not sure why you are doing this, but it is very disruptive. You should go back and fix your errors in judgement,--JOJ Hutton 14:15, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Which guidelines, pray tell? ♦ jaguar 14:20, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
The very two I JUST linked in my previous comment.--JOJ Hutton 14:29, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm losing brain cells here, Joj. Please let me get on with editing. ♦ jaguar 14:32, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Why are you stalling? Your edits were against the guidelines. Are you denying that?--JOJ Hutton 14:39, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) Jojhutton, next time, use a script to fix the RETAIN issues. You reverted massive improvements that Jaguar was making, which is not constructive and the way edit wars start. JOEBRO64 18:23, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
I’m not an expert. It’s up to each editor to follow the guidelines. These in appropriate edits should never have been hidden into other edits. You can’t defend the indefensible.201.170.77.145 (talk) 18:27, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

Cleaning up Special:WantedTemplates

Hi, due to quirks in the way that Wikipedia parses javascript pages, curly braces are parsed as templates, unless they are inside of <nowiki>...</nowiki>, <pre>...</pre>, <syntaxhighlight>...</syntaxhighlight> ... As a result of this, your script page, User:Jaguar/vector.js, is generating links in Special:WantedTemplates (in particular links to Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:"+"subst:Currentdate"+"). Recently, an interface editor attempted to fix this by adding <nowiki> at the top and </nowiki> at the bottom of your script page. This didn't work because you already have <nowiki>...</nowiki> on that page. It would be great if you could add <syntaxhighlight>...</syntaxhighlight> tags (you don't have these) at the top and bottom of your page like this which will prevent your page from generating links in Special:WantedTemplates. Done. Do feel free to change anything ― coding isn't my forte, I'm afraid. ♦ jaguar 23:46, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Notice

The article Chidden has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

"Hamlet" is four or five homes by each other. No sources, notability not established with substantive sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. User:Jaguar/vector.js

Thanks for trying to fix the problem with this edit. Unfortunately it didn't work because of the excess tab spacing inside of the closing tag. Also, to avoid breaking the javascript, there needs to be // before the tags. So, it would be great if you could fix it like this. Thanks again! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:55, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

Alternative, this also works notice that the nowiki tags are below the nowiki tags at the top of the page. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:56, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

"Chairwoman"

Is there a provision of the MOS that says "chairwoman" or "chairman" is preferable to "chair"? I see you are altering instances of "chair" to include gendered terms (as on Juanita Maxwell Phillips), but I don't understand why. AleatoryPonderings (???) (!!!) 20:58, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi AleatoryPonderings. There probably isn't anything set in stone in the MOS per se but in MOS:IDINFO there is a statement regarding gendered nouns: "gendered nouns (for example "man/woman", "waiter/waitress", "chairman/chairwoman""). It is the proper vernacular at the end of the day ― 'chairman' has always been the commonly used noun. ♦ jaguar 22:43, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
I opened a discussion about this at Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style#"Chair"_v_"chairwoman". AleatoryPonderings (???) (!!!) 23:17, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Paradoxes

Concerning the general topic of gender neutral, you'll find (as I have months ago) that many who preach tolerance, tend to practice intolerance. Quite the paradox. GoodDay (talk) 20:26, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

I found that out years ago sadly. This has always plagued Wikipedia. This project is honestly doomed with the majority of people who dominate it are simply unable to think or tolerate. ♦ jaguar 20:28, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

Surrey articles for GA review

Hi @Jaguar:
Hope all is well. You very kindly reviewed Dorking for WP:GA back in February and Stane Street (Chichester) at the end of last year. I wondered if you would be willing to look at another couple of Surrey articles please? I nominated Weybridge about six weeks ago and Leatherhead at WP:GAN yesterday, but they have not yet been picked up for review. I know that you are winding down your Wikipedia work before starting a new job in January, but if you do have any time to look at either article, that would be fantastic. (I am also hoping to nominate Haslemere in a week or so's time.) I do completely understand if you are too busy.
Thanks and best wishes Mertbiol (talk) 12:59, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi Mertbiol, I've taken up the reviews and should hopefully get to them in a day or two. I never mind reviewing local towns! Haslemere would be good. It's a shame that I'm having to wind down Wikipedia work as I had many grand plans for Hampshire towns... ♦ jaguar 00:10, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:PlayStation colour logo.png

Thanks for uploading File:PlayStation colour logo.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Newfiebluejay (talk) 22:21, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

wipeout 2048

hello, Jaguar! i had a question regarding this article and the associated blurb. do you have any reliable sources available for the european and north american release dates mentioned in the blurb and article infobox? they are currently mentioned in the article without a citation, so i am unsure what sources were used to obtain these dates. this playstation.com source suggests that the north american release date occurred a week earlier than stated in the article. (according to the vita article, this earlier date is the same as the vita's north american launch date.) also, this gamefaqs source states that the release date for the game in the playstation store was the same for both the european and north american markets. (i admittedly have a harder time believing this source, since if it were accurate, then europeans were apparently able to buy the game a week before they were able to buy the console.) dying (talk) 20:49, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi Dying, sorry for the late response. It is not a requirement for video game release dates to be sourced, as many of them have been lost to the depths of time and can only be found via aggregate sources. I've added reliable sources for the release dates in the article anyway, 22 Feb for Europe/NA, and 19 Jan for Japan. ♦ jaguar 10:30, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
thanks for getting back to me, Jaguar. i'm admittedly not that worried about whether the dates are sourced in the article or not; my worry is that one of the dates may be incorrect, and is about to be featured on the main page. i do appreciate the addition of sources for the european and japanese release dates. however, if i'm not mistaken, the eurogamer source mentions "the game's release in Europe on February 22", but states nothing about its release date in north america. the playstation.com source i linked above appears to be pretty solid, and most other sources i have come across either report the same date or are perhaps one or two days off, so i remain concerned that the north american release date currently mentioned in the blurb is still incorrect. dying (talk) 11:44, 11 August 2022 (UTC)

editnotices

Jaguar, i checked your recent contributions to see if you have had a chance to address my comment above, and was surprised to see that you had created 18 new editnotices, all apparently stating that their associated article is written in british english. were some of these created in error? for example, you created an editnotice for the namibia article, even though it appears to be written in south african english, and another for the north korea article, even though it appears to be written in u.s. english. dying (talk) 03:31, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello Dying, and apologies for the late reply as I have been away from Wikipedia for a while. The release dates for Wipeout 2048 were amended by another user, I believe. I have changed Namibia's editnotice to South African English. I do not know why the North Korea article was recently changed to American English, since the country teaches and uses British English. I've left it for now, but will delete it if there's pushback. ♦ jaguar 21:47, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
how recent was this change? i tried searching through the last few years of the article's history for the word "labour", but was unable to find anything. admittedly, i had used a binary search, so i could have missed something. however, if the article had been using british english recently for a notable amount of time, i would have assumed that my search would have been able to pick up something. it's possible that i performed my search incorrectly, though i figured that it would be easier to simply ask you when the change occurred. dying (talk) 12:37, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
also, thanks for mentioning the update on the wipeout 2048 article. i have contacted the editor, who has since helped me resolve the issue. dying (talk) 22:07, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
Jaguar, i recently realized that it might be easier to determine when the north korea article last used british english by looking at your edits to the article, since that would likely point to when you were most familiar with it. i was surprised to see that you had only made two edits: you first changed the page to use british english via a script, and then reverted the page later that day to the version immediately before you used the script. alas, it did not take me long after that to discover that others editors have previously addressed similar issues on your talk page, and that you have been brought to ani over changing articles to use british english before. i had only been trying to be helpful, in case you had a malfunctioning script or something and were unaware, but now i see that this issue is far more involved than i had initially expected.
i have no interest in pursuing this matter any further, as i have no beef with you and would rather you return to bringing articles up to featured status. at the same time, i think dropping this would be a breach of implicit responsibility on my part, as this appears to be a clear misuse of your template editor bit. so, i am pinging Dennis Brown, an active administrator who weighed in significantly during your ani case; xaosflux, the administrator who initially granted you the template editor bit; and Primefac, the administrator who renewed the bit for you. they obviously have far more experience with this sort of thing than i do, and i am washing my hands of this mess.
i do hope that you are able to avoid being disruptive in this manner in the future, as i had enjoyed reading your featured article, and would be glad to see more productive work from you. dying (talk) 04:52, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Mark Reed

On many articles about Personal Software Services games, you have reviews from Computer Gamer credited to someone named Mark Reed. I can't find this person actually named anywhere in the magazine, most of the reviews are anonymous or credited to initials that don't match Mark Reed (like "A.H."). Where did you get this name from? Thank you, Gerda! Was quite amusing seeing my name on the missing list. Shame there was no cash reward for my safe return. It feels like a decade since I last edited, so it's going to take some getting used to. I hope you are keeping well. ♦ jaguar 21:21, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
I don't watch every move on the missing list ;) - good to see you again! If you click on the songs you see how well I'm doing privately, and if you click to the story you can read something I picked related to the day, today - for Michaelmas - The Company of Heaven, with many meanings. I run a project of expanding all psalms articles (to be completed this year), and another of improving articles of those in our deaths list, in good cases for an appearance on the Main page. That will never be completed, although I focus on those with sources in German that I can read and others don't, and to music that I love. I dropped out of DYK, doing only what I feel has to be known, - with my own stories instead. How about you? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:34, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm pleased to hear that, Gerda, and that you're still active and doing well. I wish you luck with the psalms, I'll have a look at them later. I've had a turbulent year if I'm honest, but Wikipedia might take my mind off things. I enjoyed writing FAs, and giving forgotten topics the attention they deserve. ♦ jaguar 21:58, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

TFA

story · music · places

Today's TFA, Felix M. Warburg House, was written by Vami_IV and Epicgenius, introduced: "This article is about another of the great houses that once lined Fifth Avenue in New York. Specifically, this is the mansion of Felix M. Warburg, a Jewish financier who ignored fears of anti-Semitic reprisal to his decided to build himself a big Gothic manor in the middle of New York City. Although the Warburgs no longer remain, their legacy does: the museum is now the home of the Jewish Museum (Manhattan) and the building largely survives as they left it. It's a beautiful building and I hope you will all enjoy it."! - in memory -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:59, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
