Inappropriate AfD closure
[edit]Your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Betty Currie was not in comformity with any of the "speedy keep" criteria at WP:SK; I've accordingly initiated a thread about it at WP:ANI#AfD needs reopening. Please don't do this again. Deor (talk) 01:38, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- And I thought that was a time for IAR. Iowateen (talk) 01:46, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Your closure of the AfD appears to be in entirely good faith, and I personally think this article should be retained. However it doesn't appear to meet the speedy keep criteria, and on reflection I've reopened the AfD for the reasons I gave at ANI. This is just to let you know I've done that, and to make clear this is not a suggestion that anyone acted in bad faith or a criticism of anyone involved. Past experience has shown BLP1E may apply even where there are plenty of sources (see this AfD for example). It may not apply to Bettie Currie but its a valid argument for the community to consider. If the AfD is not disruptive, consensus is not immediately apparent and the SK criteria aren't met, the discussion should generally be allowed to run its course.
- Feel free to disagree with me, either here or on my talk page :) Euryalus (talk) 03:31, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Undid CSD for Ed, Edd, n Eddy's Big Picture Show
[edit]Hi. Noted you undid my placement of the {{db-hoax}} tag. In the future, if you remove a WP:CSD tag, please make sure you give a reason, lest it be replaced promptly and/or seen as vandalism. Thank you. --Dennis The Tiger (Rawr and stuff) 02:57, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Good point on the vandalism thing. =) Still, would help to leave a note in the comment box. --Dennis The Tiger (Rawr and stuff) 15:09, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

In looking at this page diff, I note the number of festivals and awards, so I have places in which to look for notability and I appreciate your faith in that notability may be shown... but how could anyone have thought unreleased?? Monsters Inside Me
[edit]The Summary and Reception paragraphs do not sound 'encyclopediac'.
You might want to refer to Manual of Style - Television - actually, on second thoughts, I'll do a bit of work on it... I've got a couple of info that can be added to it. I'll be back later... PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 21:12, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've done a bit of rewriting on the article, and added an episode list. As Kyle McCabe is not a well-known person (he has no article on Wikipedia), I've not mentioned him at the top of the page (he's listed in the infobox and in the episode guide). I've not put full details about who said what in what review - firstly, none of the reviewers have an article on wikipedia, secondly who wrote them is in the references section! Hope you like what I've done... it's not perfect, but I'm not planning on doing much else to it... I'm not in the US, and haven't seen the program - I'll leave it to someone who has seen it to put more details, etc. Regards, Steve PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 22:06, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- As you will have seen on the help desk, I'll leave it to some other editor to decide what is needed. You are biased in your own favour, as you created the article. I am biased in my favour, as I edited it! A third party will look at objectively, and come up with a solution which both of us will be happy with. Seriously, this isn't a big issue for me - if they decide that your wording etc is best, I'll be happy with that! Happy editing :D PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 22:15, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Definition of Forum Shopping
[edit]Have a look at WP:FORUMSHOP for an easy definition. It would also be good for you to know that many of the same Admins at WP:UAA are also at WP:ANI, and if they disagreed in UAA, then they'll disagree louder in ANI. Also, if you read the heading of ANI, you'll note that it's for items that require immediate Admin attention - but as always, based on the desires of the community. As such, non-admins do reply as the voice of the community - they obviously cannot take action. I think the rest of the argument about the specific usernames have been covered, but as it appeared you got a little bitten, I thought I would give a more gentle reply. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 10:41, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Hello Joe. Do you really think this is a {{db-vandalism}}? I think {{db-bio}} is a more appropriate tag. Try to look at WP:Field guide to proper speedy deletion, please. Thanks. --Vejvančický (talk) 13:58, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- The article was deleted as WP:A7 (a not notable person), not as WP:A3 (pure vandalism). Not all hoaxes are pure vandalism. Another helpful page is here: User:SoWhy/Ten Commandments for Speedy Deletion. Have a good day, Joe. --Vejvančický (talk) 16:15, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Patrolling pages
[edit]Hello fellow new page patroller! I've seen your tagging of several articles for CSD, but you haven't been marking them as patrolled, which is in the form of a link at the bottom of the page. This saves other users time to patrol other pages. Thanks for your help! [mad pierrot][t c] 22:37, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Joe. Per the above, please mark the pages you've tagged for CSD as patrolled. Alternatively, you can use tools like Twinkle, which automatically does the marking for you. Thanks. Tim Song (talk) 09:30, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Request for feedback: -graphy
[edit]You voted to delete this article. I need your input on how to fix the article...
I noticed this article is actually a list (in fact, a glossary), so I've been doing some work on it.
I've renamed it to Glossary of graphies, have cleaned it up a bit, and have added it to Portal:Contents/List of glossaries.
I've posted my rationale to its AfD.
Please let me know at the AfD if anything else needs to be done to the article in order for it to serve justifiable purposes of the encyclopedia.
Thank you.

Poop and other problems.
[edit]Joe, I often argue for deletion of stuff that does not belong in an encyclopedia. On the other hand, sometimes, I find references that show the subject is notable, and !vote to keep the article. When you really want this project to be an excellent encyclopedia, it is easy to become ego-involved and to take it as a personal affront if the discussion seems to be heading toward the wrong outcome, and then there is likely to be an escalation of shrillness, and a need to argue with each opposing vote or comment, which puts off other editors. Sometimes the answer is just to step away for a few hours and do something rewarding or productive in the real world. If an argument has been made once in a thread, it is counterproductive to make it again. When someone demands apologies for non-blatant perceived slights, it just comes across as weak. It is always better if a different editor calls out someone abusing WP:CIVIL, WP:NPA or WP:AGF. I have found that "Choose your battles" is a useful philosophy. If a crummy article gets kept, someone will put it up for deletion again in a few months, or if a possibly notable subject gets deleted, an improved article sparkling with inline references to reliable and independent sources might just get kept. Regards. Edison (talk) 03:17, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ah. yes. you previous history as an editor of a different username who likes to refer to "poop," per your User page [1]. Edison (talk) 03:53, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
I think it was unfair for other editors to say you were attracted to poop[2]. However your edits have often been unhelpful. Edison makes a lot of sense! May I suggest that instead of spending your time deleting articles that you work at improving articles. All the best - Ret.Prof (talk) 14:20, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- In AFD, I !vote keep, delete, merge, or redirect. I have also been creating articles. The only times that I would say that my editing was unhelpful was in the television schedules AFDs and dealing with Michig. Joe Chill (talk) 14:22, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Point taken. As far as I am concerned everthing is resolved. Happy Editing...Ret.Prof (talk) 14:55, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Liz Braswell
[edit]I've added an 'underconstruction' to the new article you just started. You have it titled Liz Braswell but the first line talks about Celia Thomson. I'm assuming that you have cut and pasted and that you are still working on it, so I'll check back in a few days and see where you're at before I assess it. Sabiona (talk) 20:15, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, sounds good. I've assessed it as Stub and Low. You can remove the underconstruction if you're done with it, or it will disappear on its own after a few days. Thanks, Sabiona (talk) 20:24, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello Joe
[edit]I saw your WP:Article Rescue Squadron barnstar on ThaddeusB's page. I have never seen you before, just wanted to introduce myself. I have been an editor since late 2005. Working a lot on the ARS now. I hope we see each other again soon. Ikip (talk) 18:41, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
No hard feelings either way on my end. Though the consensus for keeping looks robust, there are also lots of good ideas for improvement. I actually agree that the article is marginal in several ways, but I don't see that deleting or merging it would be a net benefit to the encyclopedia. Eluchil404 (talk) 06:54, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

re: AfD close
[edit]I have undone this close, as an AfD can't be closed as "withdrawn" while valid delete !votes stand. That is the say, the nominator withdrawing doesn't override the other delete vote. --ThaddeusB (talk) 18:31, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello again Joe. It looks like your Sony article will be saved :)
Would you considering userfying the article which you put up for deletion? The will delete it from main space completely and move it to a subpage of the creators.
The editor is a new editor, and this will give the new user a chance to rework this article and maybe wikipedia will get a longterm dedicated editor
Please let me know as soon as possible, because as soon as someone else comments on the AfD, they must agree also before I can userfy the article. Thanks for your time.Ikip (talk) 15:31, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, SL93, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you. And once again - Welcome! Ikip (talk) 20:48, 12 September 2009 (UTC) |
