Sahuarita article
[edit]You're doing a great job expanding the Sahuarita article. Keep it up, and we can see it becoming better than an average article! Nyttend 02:45, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I have to confess that I was initially frustrated with the process -- seeing my work so simply undone! But, I'm getting the hang of how this system works, and how communication can go back and forth, and I can see how it works. Thanks for your help. I plan to keep working at it, in fact, this weekend I'm planning to go around town and take some photos. :) It is my family's home now, so I have to make sure it gets to tell its story in Wikipedia! :)
NowCommons: File:Basgen-Sahuarita-townhall.JPG
[edit]File:Basgen-Sahuarita-townhall.JPG is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Basgen-Sahuarita-townhall.JPG. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Basgen-Sahuarita-townhall.JPG]]. License tagging for File:Tui-logo-2011.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Tui-logo-2011.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:07, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
Coefficient of relationship visualization
[edit]Hi, I didn't explain very well, but I just think that the diagram you added needs some more explanation. You have assumed no pedigree collapse, and I think it is important to say that, and also mention the 50% assumption for crossover. Not too long ago, it was thought that crossover was non-random, and some readers might be coming with that in mind. Also, it seems from what I've observed of edits to wikipedia pages about genetics, that there are some extremely uninformed readers out there who might have no idea that pedigree collapse could make a difference. Best wishes, Nadiatalent (talk) 18:36, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- No worries, adding the assumptions about pedigree collapse and crossover are good suggestions.
- Pedigree collapse is a very interesting issue, I think the page Wikipedia has on the subject can do much better. Royalty is an easy example, though the visualization on the King of Spain could be much better. Also, I think it would be ideal to have some real-world data on the more common forms of pedigree collapse vis-a-vis small town family lineage. Further, I would imagine that there should be models out there for the probability of collapse over time, since collapse is obviously inevitable. That being true, I do wonder about the probability of collapse even within 16 generations, which is frankly a long period of time (depending on how one counts of course, but we are in the 400-500 year range). Within that time period, the probability of ancestors living in small rural communities is quite high and thereto, one would think, so too is the probability of collapse.--Musides (talk) 22:03, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi again. Yes, it would be good to investigate such things with some diagrams. In case you haven't walked into this yet, though, I think I should warn you that there are some related pages such as inbreeding that to some people are politically highly charged. Trying to bring these up to a scholarly standard is likely to be a disappointing endeavour. I hope that you don't invest a lot of effort in this and then find yourself arguing with bizarre individuals about fundamental facts. It can get very weird in wikipedia. Nadiatalent (talk) 22:44, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the warning! I was suspecting it could be a challenging subject. :) Wikipedia contributions are sometimes a mixed bag in that sense. I find the subject personally interesting, so I'll see if I can squeeze in some time to research it a bit. Even if it doesn't come to pass at Wikipedia, I can always publish elsewhere. If I'm able to come up with concrete and interesting data, I'm sure there is somewhere it could call home. :) --Musides (talk) 23:10, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Bay Path logos
[edit]Thanks for updating the Bay Path page. Just so you know, you should update the source whenever uploading a new version of an image. The file description page has a spot for it so you can say where you found it. Designate (talk) 21:25, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information. I plan to do more updates over time to help bring the quality of the article up to standard. Full disclosure, I work for the University. I am well aware of the neutrality guidelines, so that should be okay. --Musides (talk) 22:11, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
Attribution for image
[edit]Dear Sir,
I would like to use your excellent image of the "Arizona Bark Scorpion" available at http:/upwiki/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/01/Bbasgen-bark-scorpion.jpg/800px-Bbasgen-bark-scorpion.jpg , in an extension-outreach publication related to pests in community environments. This publication is purely for educational purposes and has no commercial interests whatsoever.
However, the suggested attribution format, ""Bbasgen-bark-scorpion". Via Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bbasgen-bark-scorpion.jpg#mediaviewer/File:Bbasgen-bark-scorpion.jpg", is very different from the style I will be following for other pictures in my publication, which will most likely be much shorter and in the format:
"Photo by Abc Defghijk", or "Photo by Abc Defghijk, Lmnopqr.org".
Therefore for the sake of consistency, kindly let me know whether I may cite the images in the above formats, and if so, what name/affiliation should I use.
Thank you! Sincerely, Shaku
