Orphaned fair use image (Image:Zeus-Numerix-logo.svg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Zeus-Numerix-logo.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Conundrum

[edit]

Hi,

I am almost at the end of my tether with bickering on the Talk:India page. A number of editors, some well-intentioned (like user:Indianstar and user:AJ-India) and others of uncertain intentions (like user:Sarvagnya) would like to add (or, have already added and which I then reverted) various portions of text to many sections of the India page, an FA. These proposed edits, all initially made by user:Indianstar are not minor (i.e. they are of the size of a small paragraph), and they have not been discussed before. I have tried to start discussion going on the Talk:India page, for example: see Example1, or Example2 (the title of this section has been changed retroactively by user:Sarvagnya from "History section" to "Fowler's High-handed Reverts"). The problem as I see it is that the edits are either controversial, or cover old ground, or too listy. I get the feeling that these editors are not really interested in discussing the issues because they keep accusing me of "making a mountain out of molehill" or semantic obfuscation. Their view is that their edits are common-sense and 1 or 2 KB or text is no problem, and that no time should be wasted on discussion, especially elaborate discussion like mine. Here is an example of some responses: Example3 and Example4. In the background, user:Sarvagnya seems to be egging on the other editors to go ahead and add the reverted material again before the discussion is complete. I am trying to hold on until you return from your vacation on February 4, but in light of user:Sarvagnya's unmitigated hostility, I am concerned. She/He has used uncivil language consistently. Here are some examples of language directed at me:

  1. "Will someone do me a favour by drilling it into his skull ..."
  2. "hiding behind an admin to justify juvenile editing practices ..."
  3. "Just improve it. Dammit."

In spite of my civil reminder to desist (see here), she/he has continued with his uncivil language and earlier today she/he changed the title of the discussion section retroactively from "History Section" to "Fowler's High-handed Reverts". (The discussion section incidentally had been started by me.) I am trying to keep my cool, but it is frustrating to hear such language consistently, when most of me, judging from the level sophistication of her/his writing, is itching to say something. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 20:14, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let me put my side of story. One of the featured article criteria is that article has to be comprehensive. I felt information about India's space research, India's efforts to secure permanent membership (Military and foreign relations section), Yoga(Culture section)(Information about Kalari payattu which is less prominent compared to yoga is available in the same section) are missing in this article so added it. Indian dresses contained only 3 dresses,(mostly south india specific)so I added few more dresses to represent Pan-India characteristics. Corrected some errors in climate section. Removed many weasel words about British rule in history section to maintain article size. F & F removed all information without mentioning proper reasons. Surprisingly reverted History section to 1 month old version. I did not expect that he would revert all my good intention edits for trivial reasons. Have I vandalised the page?. You can see here--Indianstar 16:39, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfC

[edit]

Hi, I've started an RfC Talk:India#Request_for_Comment:_Adding_new_material_to_the_India_page_history_section. Any comments and feedback, at your convenience, will be welcome! Fowler&fowler«Talk» 03:48, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back from your vacation! Here's an update on the India page:
  • Most respondents to the RfC (including user:Dbachmann, user:Taxman, user:Saravask, user:Ragib, user:Anupam, user:Tombseye, Parthi were of the view that discussion on the talk page should precede most nontrivial additions to the India page. Coming down on the other side were user:Indianstar, user:Sarvagnya and user:AJ-India. user:Blacksun was of the view that the RfC was not useful, since one couldn't come up with general rules. Please give your feedback there as well.
  • The India page is currently protected as result of user:Himalayanashoka's mischief in the form of new sockpuppets. I made a post on WP:ANI (see here and was advised to use WP:RFCU which subsequently found the vandals to be likely sockpuppets (see here). I don't know what the next step will be.
  • I think we need to define some guidelines for dealing with substantial edits (and perhaps even define what constitutes substantial), otherwise burgeoning edits by new users and IPs will continue to plague the page.

You have your work cut out. :) Fowler&fowler«Talk» 02:21, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will fine tune F & F's updates. It is fine with me if as a community we decide to discuss even trivial additions. Whether we are authorised to frame separate set of rules for India article alone. How are we going to communicate that set of rules? Probably 100 people may come to know new set of rules by reading Talk pages. What about others? If others add some valid points considering all aspects, are we going to revert that by saying undiscussed changes?.--Indianstar 14:39, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chart for Demography section in India article

[edit]

You can recall that earlier I have posted some charts for Demography section. Based on earlier feedbacks I have modified the chart and revised chart can be seen here. I also solicited feedback in India article. I plan to modify Font colour as Red or some other colour to remove smudginess of fonts. Please give your feedback. (I suggest this can be put at left side of the demography section at 170px. --Indianstar 15:58, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will modify font in the chart. I have also modified SVG chart in Economy of India article. Later I will take up other charts for conversion to SVG.--Indianstar 15:58, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protection of the India page

[edit]

I am the one who requested the semi-protection of the India page in order to prevent the repeated disputed edits by sock-puppets of User:Himalayanashoka. IMO opinion, it would be difficult to "sort these disputes" since one party to the dispute is currently indefinitely banned from wikipedia (for incidents which occurred before I started following the page). So I don't think full-protection of the page will serve the purpose you intend, but will only prevent other possibly useful and consensus edits from being made. So could you please change the protection of the page to semi? Thanks. Abecedare 16:48, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see any edit-warring on the page (except with respect to the sock-puppets of User:Himalayanashoka), but admittedly I have following the article closely for < 1 week. So I'll leave the protection decision to your longer experience.
By the way, I filed an incident report about the latest personal attacks by the banned user (before I saw your message). You may wish to look at it. Hope you enjoyed your break ! :-) Abecedare 18:24, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rude Personal Message

[edit]

Nee enna periya paruppa? Naan un vishayathil thalyidatha podhu nee edhuku kannu mookai nulaikkirey was left on my talk page by User:Anwar saadat]. It roughly translates from Tamil to, Are you a big dick? If I look into your business, don't you dare come near by business or else. I found this unbelievably rude and harmful. Please take urgent action.

Distraughtly,

Prince Godfather 19:31, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I happened to come across this complain and I just wanted to point out something. Not too long ago, I received an extremely vulgar message from an anonymous user also in Tamil because of my edits to the Aalwar article, which obviously was not in favour of some. For your knowledge, Aalwar stars Ajith Kumar, who User:Anwar saadat is a huge fan of. The message read:
I screwed your mom yesterday. She was awesome. Today, I'm gonna screw your sister. Coming to watch the show? Or do you want to come along with me?
I just wanted to point this out. -- Hariharan91 15:54, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nichalp. Do you have time to take a quick look at Hoysala architecture which is in peer review and given any suggestions. How does the organization look? Do any sections need to be combined? I realise atleast 1 section needs expanding.thanks.Dineshkannambadi 00:47, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, can you please copyedit this article? It is up for FA nomination. It has went through some changes and now the only issue that it might face is the language. So can you please have a look at this article? Thank you--Thugchildz

Intro pics

[edit]

What Nikul said (on Mumbai's talk page) is not invalid. I don't know why we should not have an intro pic. Maybe not skyline but some landmark that identifies Mumbai, like pic of taj and gateway taken from sea. As far as i know that had been an identity of Mumbai.

Delhi UT

[edit]

Thanks for the clarification ! I was under the misimpression that Delhi had already been granted "statehood"; and the error was reinforced by (parts of) wikipedia. Good to learn the facts Abecedare 16:38, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stuff

[edit]

Hey,

Can you add the bombay skyline pic and the best bus pic that is shown in the discussion to the mumbai gallery?

It fits your definition for an intro pic and etc.

fyi, nazi is an american slang for paranoid folks, but I guess you prolly didnt know that.

anyway, thanks.

Images

[edit]

I have observed by oversight you have removed Political history and Economic forecast images from India article. These images have been added after long discussions in the talk page and after incorporating improvements suggested by many users including you. All users have favoured adding those images. --Indianstar 09:51, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you trying to say that image should be put at 400px.? Is it OK if 400px resolution image is developed for economy section??.--Indianstar 10:14, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did not ask whether we can put existing image at 400px. I asked is it OK to develop similar image which can show up without garbled text at 300-400px resolution.--Indianstar 10:25, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nichalp,

Do you think the article is ready for FAC? Or are there yet-to-be-resolved issues? — Ambuj Saxena () 17:30, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. We should be able to put it up for FAC by tomorrow morning. — Ambuj Saxena () 07:29, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yup yup! Another FAC!!! After much waiting...--Dwaipayan (talk) 11:01, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nichalp, I suggest we trim some info about the British Expedition to Tibet. The coverage goes a lot off-topic at places. — Ambuj Saxena () 11:42, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With less and less number of participation, there is no one but you to ask for the light copyedit you recommended in the FAC. Could you, please? --Dwaipayan (talk) 17:59, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, Portal:West Bengal is a featured portal candidate. Please have a look. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:00, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
ooops! Delhi got featutred status. Still I'd request you to try to do the light copyedit. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:01, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am done with copyediting the article for now, so please feel free to take over! When I started the article had not been edited for >12 hours, but it is suddenly seeing traffic. :-) Abecedare 10:40, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please add back the TOI ref's URL (see [2]) to the article ? I think it was lost in our edit conflict. Abecedare 10:45, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just stopped to convey you and others congrats in advance. You all are doing really great work. Somehow I am unable to be active to the extent I want. Anyway, it is really fine. --Bhadani 11:38, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added the TOI reference and redid some of the grammar copyedits in the History section (see diff) that I think were also lost in the edit-conflict. The article looks good to me, both in terms of the subject and the writing - nice job by you and other editors ! Abecedare 19:31, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delhi map

Hi Nik, i was actually planning to do a NCR map. Is there any particular reason why you want only the new delhi district map? -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:57, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CHU query

I was just wondering, would you be willing to reconsider this considering the MW restriction that I mention in the third paragraph here? Your thoughts on this would be appreciated. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 09:10, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reconsidering, and thanks for the best wishes - I'll know one-way-or-the-other whether I've got it on Tuesday. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 09:33, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nichalp,

Great copyedit. I think the article should easily pass the FAC. Though I am "Attempting Wikibreak", I will be around to have a look into the concerns raised. — Ambuj Saxena () 09:50, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your courteous guidance... It is amazing how obvlivious we can be with such simple 2 line instrusctions... I guess their is great justification for the saying "when all else fails, read the instructions"... :)

Chuckle

[edit]

I got a good chuckle just a moment ago, as I checked my watchlist, when I found this:

15:06 Wikipedia:Changing username (diff; hist; unwatch) . . (+156) . . Nichalp (Talk | contribs | block) (→Nataliebell → TVkent - done)

About twenty mintues ago, I went to do those same two namechanges, but I noticed this note from User:Stan Shebs and decided to leave them for him to do (I left a note on his talk page telling him they were there). It amused me greatly to find he'd been proven right, that we are indeed on top of things!
