I'm afraid I can't shed much light on him beyond what's in his article (other than his date of death, which I've just added). He was awarded the Kaiser-i-Hind 1st Class in the 1923 New Year Honours and the Imperial Service Order in the 1926 Birthday Honours when he was a Superintendent, the OBE in the 1930 New Year Honours when he was Deputy Commissioner, the CIE in the 1933 Birthday Honours when he was Deputy Commissioner (Special Branch), and the King's Police Medal in the 1936 New Year Honours. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:33, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Added name in Gujarati script. I skipped Gujarati for Khan Bahadur considering that it was a title awarded. Chirag (talk) 15:53, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Geodata error

[edit]

Thanks for catching my bot's error on the Mumbai Fort page. My first guess is that it was an error in the matching heuristics: I'll see if I can find a way to catch this class of case, so I can improve them. -- The Anome (talk) 13:41, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Weigh in?

[edit]

Hi Nichalp, Would you like to weigh in again on the discussion here between user:FMT (who signs as "I am invariant...") and I? Thanks. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 19:52, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Duvvuri Subbarao

[edit]

Hi,

New page has been started for Duvvuri Subbarao, new Governor of Reserve Bank of India. Needs lot of material on it. Indian News papers should have lot on him these days (Can't access all of it from USA).

Upload script

[edit]

Wow, looks really slick!! Will take a shot at it over the weekend...just installed Ubuntu 8.04 a couple of weeks ago, so now I can take it and the perl script out for a test drive :) Thanks AreJay (talk) 15:04, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's fancy. I will give it a test drive this weekend. I had learnt Python in 2 weeks when I wrote the Town bot. Your script is going to be very useful. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 01:29, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Break

[edit]

Yeah, well it's going to be around five months... I hope to be back late March and, if I'm lucky, on the odd occasion in between. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:21, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Added

[edit]

Added the template. Currently, just adding raw data. We'll cook it later. This has so much details http://www.maharashtra.gov.in/english/gazetteer/greater_bombay/history.html. Thankyou, Kensplanet (talk) 09:24, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are right

[edit]

You are right!!! But currently let's just expand the article from the Gazetter page. After completing, we'll cross check, copyedit, remove trivial details, anything. Thanks, Kensplanet (talk) 09:46, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't the text under public domain. Kensplanet (talk) 19:41, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Text deleted. I was just wondering how should we split up the Btitish period section. The current sections have no flow. Kensplanet (talk) 19:53, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll just add years currently like 1650-1750. Nomenclature will be done later. Kensplanet (talk) 20:11, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi Nichalp. I should be doing what you suggest, in the near future.thanks for the suggestion.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 12:34, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You mean "History of Karnataka".Dineshkannambadi (talk) 15:06, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All my FA's are about Karnataka, kingdoms, literature and architectures. So to get a FT done, I would have to write a FA called "History of Karnataka". Do I understand this process correctly?Dineshkannambadi (talk) 15:36, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If my understanding is correct, since I dont have a FA on History of Karnataka, could I use Political history of medieval Karnataka which is a FA?Dineshkannambadi (talk) 15:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. So I will wait for a few days.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 15:42, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

locator maps for chhattisgarh and orissa

[edit]

Hi Nichalp, ive just uploaded locator maps for these two states, could you please add the new coordinates for them to IIJ. The boundary coords are the same for both states.

|top=24.27 |bottom=17.691|left=80.370 |right=87.522

there does seem to be a problem with the state/district boundaries. they need to be shifted a little left, but im not able to figure it out exactly becauee google maps which i use forr postioning, have themselves messed up big time. Places like Malakangiri, Naupada have gone into chattisgarh, and i couldnt find any good map on the web -- PlaneMad|YakYak 17:44, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The coords for Orissa need to be updated with the same. Ive replaced an older map -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:51, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Google shows Malakangiri and Naupada in chhattisgarh, while they should be in orissa. i wonder howd something like that happen. Right now the borders are placed like google does since i cant find a better source. Since ive marked the district hq in the proper place, many of them have ended up in the neighbouring district or state -- PlaneMad|YakYak 19:01, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
done. four states in two days, now i need a break :D the script looks useful, will use it if im doing a batch upload -- PlaneMad|YakYak 07:02, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Added haryana |top=30.975|bottom=27.535|left=74.516 |right=77.687 -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:01, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pakistan occupied Kashmir

[edit]

Hi-
I'm trying to figure out how to handle the quagmire at this article's afd. I noticed that you have a very well articulated argument, so I'm hoping you can help me save the article by stripping out some of the POV parts. Any ideas? L'Aquatique[parlez] 23:00, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

whats wrong with the original Pakistan-administered Kashmir page]] ? 86.163.153.184 (talk) 19:32, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm replying here (hope you don't mind). Nothing wrong specifically. I've tried to limit the content to the geographical area while spelling out the disputes and claims on each side. I did not want to duplicate too much content from the article on the Kashmir Conflict. Since the scope of the page is on the area controlled by Pakistan, I've limited the information on J&K and human rights issues. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:37, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is that this article already exsists and it includes ALL territory under pakistans control if you have any problems with the original version please tell me because theres no logic in creating copys of the same page which state the same things 86.163.153.184 (talk) 19:42, 7 September 2008 (UTC) dont bother wasting your time on that draft as it will further confuse the matter your wasting your time instead let discuss the POK page 86.163.153.184 (talk) 19:45, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you got me correctly. It's not a fork or duplication as you put it. See my comment in the AFD, I've asked for the PoK page to be *redirected* to PaK. That means anybody searching for POK will be served the PaK page. Now the PaK page, while being somewhat neutral, fails to address some key points such as the United Nations take on the issue, and why India is so sensitive. It also needlessly rambles on some quotations, that can be moved to q:wikiquote. Do read the draft, If you have any suggestions to amend the text, please do so on that talk page. I'd be happy to emend the text if you could also back it up by providing reliable sources. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:50, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I dont understand a bit but changing and producing articles in kashmir will prolong the issue as your welcome to change the original article. As for POK that article doesnt in anyway solve anything it doesnt deserve to be mentioned thats why its up for deletion its so biased that even a indian editor like you will agree to remove it and trust me this issue will go on unless article like POK are removed let me put it this way if there was a seperate article in indian occupied kashmir there would be war so put your self in a neutral point p.s i dont support indian occupied kashmir page as its biased against india now please think neutral and stop supporting POK 86.163.153.184 (talk) 19:56, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't get me wrong. I do not support any of the text on Pakistan occupied Kashmir. It's one-sided, and off topic. But deleting would mean that the article title "does not exist", plainly speaking, a dead end if you search for the term. Redirecting, on the other hand, means that the *entire* text is kicked off, and replaced by a one liner. For example, when you type in "Federally Administered Northern Areas", you are automatically taken to the alternate title "Northern Areas" See this text on FANA page. =Nichalp «Talk»= 20:15, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see well i believe what you propose is achievable however i dont have the relevant expertise to redirect pages its up to you freind peace 86.163.153.184 (talk) 20:27, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Query on Neutrality(?) policy

[edit]

As I can recall wikipedias policy is to refer to countries under their legal name as it is accepted by the UN. however if one looks at the todays 7/9/08 first page/on this day section on will propably see "independence day of Republick of Macedonia"... however there is no such state as this. THE OFFICIAL NAME IS: Former Yugoslavic Republic Of Macedonia F.Y.R.O.M. May I remind you also that the are currently negotiations taking place for the removal of continuation of the "Macedonia" bit in the name. Wikipedias neutrality policy dictates that the temporary official name should be used.... If so possible I propose the creation of a bot to undertake the job of fixing this isue. As unimportand as it might seam to you: 1)it is a breach of the wikipedias neutrality policy 2) it is malinforming and incorrect 3) it means a great deal for the current countries in the dispute 4) it is disrespectfull towards the citizens of those countries and the UN thank you very much for your attention 79.166.26.188 (talk) 03:05, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replying
  • I have never come across any wikipedia policy that dictates the name should follow the name signed United Nations
  • The Wikipedia naming policy for such entities is dictated by Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names).
  • For example, Iran signs under "Islamic Republic of Iran", and North Korea as "Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Source
  • To carry on, the common name used is the "Republic of Macedonia", not the UN name.
  • In what way is it incorrect?
  • I doubt if it is in anyways disrespectful to Macedonia (country) or the UN

See also: Wikipedia:Naming conflict, Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Controversial names where the Macedonia issue is prominently discussed. =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:15, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

broken coordinates

[edit]

Please take care, that you don't add coordinates with "seconds " or "minutes" of 60 or more, as you did here. Were you using a bot or other tool which did the conversion for you? If so, we need to let the author know, Thanks, Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 22:43, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake. I overlooked it. I usually do not use the dms system in infoboxes and images since its much more easier to type in the decimal places. I cannot remember where I got the details about that specific edit, but it's definitely not through a script. Thanks for catching it. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:22, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD debate on Pakistan/Kashmir

[edit]

Hello, I propose that I perform a non-admin closure on this AfD as a neutral outsider to the entire debate. I've never contributed or even read any of it until today. I feel that a non-admin closure from a 3rd party would let everyone move on and allow an admin to come in and clean up without anyone feeling that debate is being stifled. What do you think? Microformat

[edit]

Thanks Nicholas. I get the general drift of what the system does, but don't see how it relates to user preferences which is what was mentioned in the edit summary. Is class="fn org" a standardised class name or are these ad-hoc? Moondyne 07:22, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I get it now. I installed Operator for Firefox and see a drop down list of vCard locations found on the WP page. Cool. Moondyne 08:06, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
