V for victory!
[edit]Thanks for the comment on the Kenosha article. That editor has been problematic in terms of accusations of bad faith (see my comments on their talk page). Anyway, after our work on the Pinto article we hadn't overlapped much. Nice to be on the same article again (even if I don't agree with you :D ). As a counterpoint, what do you think of my edit here [[1]]. Personally I think the whole list should be removed as it seems to be a coat rack more than say one or two good examples. At the article I removed it for the same reason as before but I think this may be a stronger case since the OK article is more generalized while the Kenosha article is clearly Rittenhouse related. Take car and stay safe! Springee (talk) 15:12, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- NickCT, do you have a preference for text related to the Kenosha material? We are currently 2:2 regarding long or short version of the included text. Some extra voices would be helpful. Springee (talk) 12:48, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Please don't restore suspect names
[edit]The consensus is currently not in majority for revealing suspect names on Assassination of Jovenel Moïse. I myself favour revealing the identities of the suspects but that shouldn't be done if the consensus is not with us. Currently it's a 3-3 tie. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 19:32, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Kashmiri! It looks like a lot of the folks who commented on this topic did so 5 days ago. Given that this is a rapidly evolving subject, many of these people were less well known. Very likely the consensus has changed as the reporting has. Unless there are people objecting today, we should probably keep the names in. NickCT (talk) 23:15, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- The consensus will remain the same, no identities of suspects. There was also a discussion at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#Assassination of Jovenel Moïse on the same subject. New suspects doesn't change a consensus or make it irrelevant. Please stop inserting the names and edit-warring or I will be complaining you. This is your final warning. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 23:34, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- Please complain. It's clear the consensus has changed as the facts have. We can test that if you want to.
- It's not the "new suspects" that have changed. It's the fact the "old suspects" have been widely reported on now. The reporting has changed, so our content changes too. NickCT (talk) 23:38, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- They were already widely reported, a fact I had mentioned long before you. Now stop edit-warring. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 23:43, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- @LéKashmiriSocialiste: - Ugh oh. You seem to be over WP:3RR, so technically, I could report you. Do you want to restore the content? NickCT (talk) 23:51, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- Also, please don't blanket revert. See my note below about "mastermind". Using language like that looks a bit silly. NickCT (talk) 23:52, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- That was by mistake, I didn't notice I crossed 3RR and thought I was on third. But reverting those acting like they make their own rules, I doubt anyone will mind a mistake. Besides I suggest you stop using "lead by" and instead use "led by" when referring to leaders. I'm not the one whose English is bad. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 00:02, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- @LéKashmiriSocialiste: - Ha ha. Touché. And I didn't say your English was "bad". My exact words were "very good". Regardless, the way wikipedia works is that I catch your bad language and you catch my bad "leads" and together we make a well written article. NickCT (talk) 00:10, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- Very good is used as an alternative phrase to say you're bad, without offending people. There's nothing wrong in saying masterminds and it's an actual words isn't it? That's why I blanket reverted you. Your edits are mostly of no use. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 00:15, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- re "Very good is used as an alternative phrase to say you're bad" - That seems a little cynical. "Mastermind" is a word, but using it the way you're using it sounds a little "comic-y" in English. Here's a suggestion, look at the reporting on this topic. Do any news outlets discuss these guys as "masterminds"? If not, we probably shouldn't. NickCT (talk) 00:19, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- Given your behaviour till now it's reasonable to assume. Yes a lot of the news outlets call them masterminds. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 00:24, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- So English is your second language, right? I'm trying to help you here.
- Can you show me an RS that uses "mastermind" outside of a headline? NickCT (talk) 00:27, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm sure you are.
It has also triggered an international manhunt for the gunmen and alleged masterminds across the Americas region.
[2]. Charles said that after Moïse was killed, one suspect phoned Sanon, who got in touch with two people believed to be masterminds of the plot.
[3] LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 00:32, 17 July 2021 (UTC)- See WP:AGF. You're not answering my questions.
- Using "alleged masterminds" in the context Reuters sounds a little different than using the word on it's own.
- The CT source is pretty good. That looks like bad English too. It might be that the person they're quoting (i.e. Charles) used the word, so they are too.
- Again, I'm not saying using the term "mastermind" is wrong. Just that it's not great formal English. If you look at how it's used in most sources reporting on this topic, it's typically used as a headline word. NickCT (talk) 00:43, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- That's your problem if you think the context is different or it's bad English. "Alleged masterminds" is simply used because they haven't been convicted. And our article should say that too since they're still alleged. If you don't like it, it's not my fault. Formal English does use masterminds.
Romero is not the only one still struggling to fathom the motives and masterminds behind Moïse’s assassination, which has rattled Haitian society and sent shock waves around the globe.
[4] Feel free to contact the websites if you think they're wrong. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 00:51, 17 July 2021 (UTC)- Alright bud. I really don't care enough a minor vocabulary issue to draw this conversation out. I'm a little surprised though that you won't take the point though. Typically, when I write in foreign languages, I seek guidance from native speakers... NickCT (talk) 00:56, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- My school taught me English well and I scored excellent marks in my examinations. I also speak English very frequently. If you think so many media houses are making a mistake, then you can contact them. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 00:58, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- My school taught me French well. I got great marks. I still don't understand a lot of colloquialisms, and there are a lot of times I use outdated phraseology. If a native french speaker told me I wasn't using the best language, I'd probably believe them. Language is complex....
- Anyways, as I said, it's not a "mistake". It just doesn't sound great in context. NickCT (talk) 01:04, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- I do understand a lot of English colloquialisms but we aren't discussing colloquialisms here. If you disagree with using "masterminds", I've already invited you to talk to those media houses I showed to you. Even native speakers aren't perfect. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 01:07, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- The point was that there's a lot of language nuance (like colloquialisms) I don't understand, despite being good at a foreign language. We don't seem to be getting anywhere here. NickCT (talk) 01:09, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm sure you are.

- (ec) As a quick follow-up; I restored most of your edits. You're putting in some great content. Based on some of your linguistics, I think English may be your second language? Most of your writing is very good, but so you know, words like "mastermind" are more typically used in English fiction and typically not in formal reporting/recounting. Also, using words like "per" is a less common abbreviation that's usually avoided in formal language. NickCT (talk) 23:36, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
Translate Bio moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Translate Bio, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Sock sniffing?
[edit]Hi Nick, an editor has referenced one of your comments from a decade ago in an ongoing discussion here.[5] A few days after that inconclusive SPI, the editor went dormant for ten years. You mentioned in that same comment that "I may do a little sock sniffing in future". Well, I am here from the future to see if you still find this intriguing. Onceinawhile (talk) 19:15, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Onceinawhile: - Thanks for pointing that out! I vaguely remember User:Breein1007 as being a particularly pernicious editor, unburdened by any sense of rules or consensus. If he's back that's bad news for WP.
- I can do a little sock sniffing. The guy was so skilled at evading blocks though, I'm not sure I'll find much. NickCT (talk) 18:26, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Onceinawhile - Dusted off the old sock sniffer. I'm amazed I still had it.
- Got a pretty quick hit between Bob drobbs and Selfstudier.
- I've put the results here.
- In short, these two look very suspicious. Editing similar pages at similar times.
- Additionally, there look like what look like "hand-offs". For instance, on Dec 12th Dob's logs in around 12:50, edits for half-an-hour, then stops editing. A mere 4 minutes later SelfStudier comes in and starts editing for half-an-hour. Looks like one person switching accounts? Also possible that it's two people using the same computer or something. One way or another it's pretty darn sus considering these two are editing the same pages. Anyways, I've got go offline for bit. NickCT (talk) 20:46, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Nick, I have witnessed some of these interactions and can say with certainty that this must be a false positive. Selfstudier and Bob Drobbs are editing in opposition to each other, and one may be following the other around from article to article. Onceinawhile (talk) 21:05, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Onceinawhile: - Haha! Well..... shows the importance of taking content and not just similar pages/times into account! I'll look more deeply later. NickCT (talk) 21:15, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Ironically, I think I may have uncovered some WP:HOUNDing. Looks like Studier hounded Bob to Criticism of Amnesty International. NickCT (talk) 21:23, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Much of Bob’s recent editing has been related to the AfD at the top of this thread, which started at the end of November. From what I can tell, the dispute expanded to a range of other articles where the blogger in question was linked as a source. At the Amnesty article, the article seemed to heat up after the blogger source was first removed.[6]
- I will have a look to see what else I can find. Onceinawhile (talk) 22:19, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Right. The weird Collier fellow.
- It's not clear to me how Selfstudier got to the "Criticism of Amnesty International" page w/o having looked at Bob's contributions on Dec 8th. NickCT (talk) 22:31, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)I went back to Bob’s history to understand when he “resurfaced”. Interestingly it was in March this year, and at the article 1920 Nebi Musa riots. This was the first article mentioned in a call-to-arms blogpost issued by the blogger, pointing out articles that he wanted changed. I believe the blogpost was published in January – an IP then changed the article later in January, it was changed back, and then it lay dormant until Bob turned up in March. So it is absolutely possible that Bob was inspired by the blog to come out of retirement. Onceinawhile (talk) 22:35, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- The David Collier article talk page has gone now but Huldra posted there a set of links of those articles where Bob Drobbs had carried info from the Collier article to other pages, including the "Criticism of Amnesty International". If you look at Huldra edit history for the 6th and 7th, you can see Huldra reverting all the nonsense. That's how I got there as I recall, I went to all those articles.Selfstudier (talk) 11:30, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
- Ironically, I think I may have uncovered some WP:HOUNDing. Looks like Studier hounded Bob to Criticism of Amnesty International. NickCT (talk) 21:23, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Onceinawhile: - Haha! Well..... shows the importance of taking content and not just similar pages/times into account! I'll look more deeply later. NickCT (talk) 21:15, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Editorializing and avoiding personal attacks
[edit]Hey NickCT, if you can, avoid editorializing in edit summaries such as this one. I am not at all insisting the New Zealand subsidiary part be added back, only you are. Please take responsibility for that and don’t misrepresent me. The last RfC about this issue got rather heated. Criticisms of argumentative style or POV are fine. Personal attacks such as “Think you're being clever? I can guarantee your not” should be avoided, and don’t directly contribute to the discussion. Let's both keep our cool through this one, I will support whatever consensus emerges if you reopen an RfC. Grey Wanderer (talk) 17:49, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- You aren't accepting or offering any solution that doesn't speciously attach "America" to the ownership of what's obviously a multinational company. I'm accepting any number of alternative wording.
- I am being flexible. You are being bigoted. Do you not think it's unfortunate that your position isn't allowing other contributors to come up with consensus language?
- re “Think you're being clever? I can guarantee your not” - Wow..... Dredging up stuff from years ago. This is getting a little weird. Little bit houndy. Having stalkers makes me feel loved and all, but there are probably more effective ways for you to spend your time.
- Again and again and again, I've pointed out behavioral issues that are unproductive. I just pointed out your odd habit of reading things into references that aren't there. Instead of trying to directly address those concerns (i.e. explaining why you felt something was in a reference), you always divert, distract, or ignore. That type of behavior isn't clever.
- Saying "you'll support" is sorta disengenuous as you wouldn't really have an option not to. If you cared about being productive, you'd be proposing or considering alternative wordings to the content matter under debate that would help avoid and RfC. The way that Tim and I were proposing and considering each others wordings.
- You're obviously not approaching this in good faith. If you'd like to redeem your erreant ways, you're always free to come back to this talk page. NickCT (talk) 17:06, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- The personal attacks you've expressed above are exactly what I was trying to get ahead of. Seeing you misrepresent me in the edit summary was a warning to me that you were again going down that path. We should focus on content, not on calling folks stalkers and bigoted. Just chill, both of us are operating in good faith. If you want the wording to change, do it! We both agree it’s a bit awkward as it is. I will support whatever new consensus emerges. Grey Wanderer (talk) 19:15, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry if I wasn't clear enough earlier. Unless you're looking to have a content related discussion. Please stay away from this talk page.
- Learn to seperate "personal attacks" from criticisms. A personal attack is something like "I'm surprised backwater people from Missouri know how to operate computers". A criticism is "You're being totally inflexible (i.e. bigoted) in your position".
- And don't say "I will support whatever new consensus emerges." - Tim moved the page in question from the RfC consensus. I came to a new consensus with him that made us both happy, then you stepped in and stymied it. Stop pretending, or worse, imagining that you're trying to be helpful. If you were trying to be helpful, you'd be proposing wording that would make everyone happy (like I did), instead of just rejecting everything.
- Again, come back to this talk page if/when you have proposal for wording that you think will make everyone happy, or when you want to have a content focused discussion. Until then, have a good day. NickCT (talk) 16:17, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
- You're welcome to delete this conversation, it’s your talk page after all,
but you don’t have the right to tell anyone they can’t use it.Behavior discussions are best handled here not at Talk:Rocket Lab. I don’t have time IRL to come up with a new or better wording or I would, if you come up with one I might support it. It's really a small issue. Grey Wanderer (talk) 16:48, 1 February 2023 (UTC)- WP:USERTALKSTOP - "repeatedly posting on a user's page after being asked not to, without good reason, may be seen as harassment or similar kind of disruptive behavior" NickCT (talk) 17:03, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
- I think I have good reason, but let's have this whole discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard, that's why I went there to honor your request. I've made two short post responding and you've jumped straight to harassment accusations. I feel you’re trying to prevent discussion of your behavior. Out of respect I won’t make any more post here. Grey Wanderer (talk) 17:19, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
- You always feel you have a good reason. That's the problem.
- You don't need to post to tell me you're going to stop posting. You just need to stop posting.
- You're not going to stop out of respect. You're going to stop b/c you have to.
- Discussion of my behavior? Is this somekind of "I'm rubber. You're glue" tactic? Goooooo awwwwwaaaaayyyyyy. NickCT (talk) 17:55, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
