Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Gambino crime family, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Editing
[edit]Instead of just marking articles as lacking in citations, perhaps it would be more helpful if you were to take a moment to google the people in question and add citations.--Epeefleche (talk) 16:43, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Reply to editing
[edit]Actually, I have copy edited a number of these articles, correcting grammar, restructuring sentences, adding links, fixing references and also researching the subjects and adding content. I simply mark the articles so that they will appear on lists and gain attention. If you feel I have unfairly marked anything, please go ahead and unmark it.Rogermx (talk) 04:10, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
As far as the Gambino edit, I frankly don't even remember what it was. My guess is that it was something minor. If someone would care to explain why it was reverted, I would be pleased to listen.Rogermx (talk) 04:16, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been away from Wikipedia for a while due to work pressures. I looked back at the history and did not find a reversion of your edits. I also looked at your edits and they looked fine. My conclusion is that I made an error when I left you a warning. I am sorry for that - I don't remember the circumstances but I do apologize. I struck out the warning above. Dougz1 (talk) 14:23, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi Roger, hope I'm using this feature appropriately. Just reaching out re your edits (BLP, Unreliable sources, Additional citations needed) to the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Doherty I've been in and tried to improve citations and add new sources. Not sure what the process is for having these changes reviewed - can you please advise? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gordopolis (talk • contribs) 14:14, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

AfD nomination of List of Italian American mobsters
[edit]An editor has nominated List of Italian American mobsters, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Italian American mobsters and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 21:59, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Please, help me
[edit]Hi
I'm sorry for bothering, but I really need your help. User:Doc glasgow has reverted the Bonanno crime family page that I've written countless times, due to the fact that he/she means that there are no sources confirming the information I've written on the crime family's bosses and caporegimes, however, I have given up my sources from where I got the information, both from Jerry Capeci's Gangland, as well as the New York Times and the Federal Burea of Investigation news pages on organized crime. Although letting him/her know about this, User:Doc glasgow has not only reverted the Bonanno crime family page, making it seem undone, but also made abusive threats about blocking me from Wikipedia, when really it should be User:Doc glasgow who should be blocked. This person can not be reasoned with, as he/she has been reverting both the Bonanno crime family page, as well as the Colombo crime family page, in addition, the person can not be reasoned with. Please, I need your help!
Formatting and linking
[edit]Roger, there has been a recent change in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style: date linking is no longer a part of Wikipedia style. See MOS:SYL for more information. Also, it is inappropriate to link plain English words in most cases. Please see WP:OVERLINK. Thank you. Ground Zero | t 03:40, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Could you help me? This page and the Jimmy Hoffa page are being edited by a Stephen J. Anderson. He is deleting information that was found during an investigation by Charles Brandt and I. Please check out the Jimmy Hoffa page, the Frank Sheeran page also. The information is for public use. Anything you can do to help will be appreciated. --Spectre7277 (talk) 04:02, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Greg DePalma
[edit]I noticed that there isn't a bio/entry for Greg DePalma. Do you know enough about him to start one? Seems sort of strange that this guy doesn't have an entry. Would be particularly timely right now given the recent publication of "The Making of Jack Falcone".81.129.156.184 (talk) 16:30, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Capitalization of headings
[edit]Roger, thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia.
I'd just like to point out that the Wikipedia style for capitalizing headings is to use "sentence case" instead of "title case", e.g.,
- Important things to know about this subject
not:
- Important Things to Know About This Subject
This may be unfamiliar to many editors who believe that or have been taught that "title case is the right way to capitalize headings". It isn't the "right way", it is one style. Wikipedia has, for better or worse, chosen to follow a different style, i.e., capitalize the heading the same way you would capitalize any sentence:
- capitalize the first word,
- capitalize any proper nouns (people, places, organizations), and
- begin all other words with lower case letters.
See WP:MSH for more information. Thanks. Ground Zero | t 21:31, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Sorting of categories
[edit]BTW, there are some (relatively bizarre) oddities about how we use the DEFAULTSORT keyword (and the Lifetime template, which in turn uses DEFAULTSORT).
Sadly, the database software doesn't do the "right thing" in some cases, especially names that have less common capitalizations, e.g. begin with a lowercase letter or contain more than one uppercase letter. We also do not sort on punctuation, such as the "apostrophe" (the ' character we use, since the WP:MOS says not to use the "real" apostophe).
In summary, such names as "D'Amico" and "LiCastri" get sort keys of "Damico" and "Licastri", respectively.
See Wikipedia:Categorization_of_people#Ordering_names_in_a_category, especially Categorization_of_people#Other_exceptions. Studerby (talk) 18:18, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Well spotted. I've speedily deleted them all under the BLP policy. Uncle G (talk) 02:39, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
The article Adrian Harpham has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Does not meet notability guidelines and is a autobiography
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.XinJeisan (talk) 07:15, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for your contributions. Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Gambino crime family, as "minor" only if they truly are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. Adding or moving images really does not qualify as a "minor" edit. UncleBubba (Talk) 01:14, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When you make a change to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Gambino crime family. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit. It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. UncleBubba (Talk) 01:19, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When you make a change to an article, please try to avoid Bare URLs. - DonCalo (talk) 16:32, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:41, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
License tagging for File:Michael Taccetta.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Michael Taccetta.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Orphaned non-free image File:Gaetano Reina.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Gaetano Reina.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 01:02, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi
[edit]Hi, I came across some pages that should be proposed for deletion they are not well referenced, they are only known associates to the Vario crew involved in hijacking from the airport. I don’t understand how to propose an article for deletion.
Can you add these pages up for deletion
- Peter Morales (mobster) - referenced used is Nicholas Pileggi Wiseguy book (no match see)
- Charles V. Errigo - has deadlink references and In Nicholas Pileggi Wiseguy (no match see)
- Remo (mobster) - referenced used is Nicholas Pileggi Wiseguy book (there is a match see) but not enough to have the page.
- Frank Sorace - Nicholas Pileggi Wiseguy book here, page is to small could be added into The Vario Crew.
Thanks --Vic49 00:34, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks, for the help I proposed Peter Morales (mobster) for deletion, and left my reasons on the Talk:Peter Morales (mobster) is that it? --Vic49 23:52, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
The article Charles V. Errigo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- unsourced biography
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
By the way, I realize that you did not create this article, but you are the last registered editor to have made any substantive edits to it. Metropolitan90 (talk) 08:11, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Userpage
[edit]Roger, you're using your page to work on the bio of an apparent mafia figure, and you're not including any sources. This is not in compliance with our policies on WP:BLP; if it's not cleaned up in 48 hours I'm taking it down. DS (talk) 01:18, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- To clarify, then: although we do grant broad leeway for article preparation on userpages, we still have to take BLP concerns into account -- especially since userpages can and do get mirrored. You cannot claim someone is a mafioso, or otherwise involved in illegal activities, without substantiating your assertions. Okay? DS (talk) 04:44, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Castelle and Vitulli
[edit]Hi, would you mind if I merge the information from the Eugene Castelle and Rocco Vitulli articles into the Lucchese crime family article. I was going to propose each articles for deletion, but first I wanted to ask you if you mind. Castelle and Vitulli both dont meet notability and fall into the WP:BIO (Crime). Vitulli is only known for one mafia hit. Castelle is only known for being arrested on drug charges. --Vic49 (talk) 14:31, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Louis Facciolo
[edit]I made two comments on the Discussion page for Louis Facciolo. He is the brother of Bruno Facciolo who was whacked by the "Mafia Cops", i.e. the Facciolos are notable (although somebody who didn't know anything about the mafia took down the Bruno Facciolo page because, to them, he was "NN gangster"). Wikipedia is becoming less and less useful because of all these stupid nitwit games that people are playing (mostly by teenagers who have found something to do in life by posting/deleting on Wikipedia all day). Anyway, what is the relationship between Louis and Bruno Facciolo, and Carla Facciolo? Thanks in advance to anybody that knows. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.154.11.20 (talk) 16:30, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
DeMartino article
[edit]Hi, I came across the Vincent DeMartino article you created its well written but he does not meet notability. I merged the important information about DeMartino and his crimes in the Colombo crime family#Imprisoned soldiers section. I also think that Eugene Castelle redirect should also be deleted. As the creator of both articles you can tag them with a G7 speedy deletion (which is a author requests deletion). What do you think? --Vic49 (talk) 15:04, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
DeRoss
[edit]Just fixing up the article and have a few question, how is DeRoss related to the Persico family? I only found one reference supporting DeRoss's relationship to Persico's. I found this it states John DeRoss is an uncle of Alphonse "Little Allie boy" Persico. --Vic49 (talk) 21:37, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds good, Ive made the changes to the article. Did you find any references other then the one I found, that says DeRoss is related to the Persico's? --Vic49 (talk) 16:57, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Salvatore Aparo
[edit]Hi, I came across the Salvatore Aparo article you created and just wondering if you can tag it with a (Speedy deletion) {{db-g7 which is an Author requests deletion? Thanks --Vic49 (talk) 21:07, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I've declined that, author request is something we can do, but not something we must do, and in this case it was my judgement that it was not warranted. However, if the content has been merged elsewhere converting the article to a WP:REDIRECT is an option. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:54, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

refToolbar
[edit]First of all, thank you for your great contributions to articles on the American Mafia. Your articles are very well sourced. I just wonder if you are familiar with this tool: Wikipedia:refToolbar 2.0. Personally, I think it makes formatting references a lot easier. Thank you for the compliment. Also, I did not know about the refToolbar - I will definitely check it out!Rogermx (talk) 21:40, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Persico impact?
[edit]Do you have any info or opinion pieces regarding Persico's impact on the Colombo family? Lenin, am still looking for article. Personally, I think Persico's attempt to run the Colombos from prison all these years has kept the family destabilized and caused the third Colombo war. Of course, Persico is only concerned with what happens to Persico.Rogermx (talk) 02:12, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Gangland?

- Hi Lenin, unfortunately do not have Gangland subscription. I enjoyed reading Massino's take on the Bonventre hit. If you need any archived NY Times articles, I still have that subscription. Rogermx (talk) 17:59, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

George from Canada
[edit]I'm trying to add the Gerlando Sciascia murder to the Joey Massino article discussing his dealings with other families (apparently it ticked off the Rizzutos, but I'm not sure exactly what George's role was with the Rizzutos and why it got them so angry. Five Families is no help because it seems to just treat the Rizzutos as a Bonanno crew (p 641).
I saw you worked on George's article, so I wondered if you knew. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 22:23, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
- I think the Rizzutos were originally a crew, but as they became richer and more powerful from the heroin trade, Vito Rizzuto started viewing himself as the boss of a separate family. Massino expected Sciascia to support him in Montreal, but Sciasca was actually more sympathetic with Vito (they came from same place in Sicily). I also think Massino distrusted Sciascia because he was Sicilian (going back to Galante and his Sicilians). Some of the books on the Canadian LCN might give some help.

- Hope this helps. Keep up the good work!Rogermx (talk) 00:17, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Vic49 brought it up on Google Books when he found a cite for Joey's original crew. There doesn't seem to be too much about George in the preview, however. I'll see if I can a copy for cheap somewhere. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 00:29, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Joey/KotG
[edit]I'm going nuts. I wanna expand on HangingCurve's work on Massino's 2004 conviction, and I know for sure that there is a page in King of the Godfathers that talks about Vitale's reaction when he was informed Massino wanted to kill him, but I can't find it now.
I've got the same printing that I used on the Colombo family article that doesn't match the Google books one, and it doesn't have an index. I swear somewhere in that book is a section where the FBI tells him that Joey wanted him killed and when he asked him to prove it they just said he knew it already (or something to the effect).
You have any idea where I should look? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 20:58, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

- I was scanning through an edition on google books (ISBN 0786018933) and got the impression that the subject of Vitale's defection was between pages 207 and 228 (which are blocked, naturally). No other ideas yet, sorryRogermx (talk) 22:05, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- I found a page in Raab Five Families (pg 675) that talks about this. http://books.google.com/books?id=5nAt6N8iQnYC&pg=PA675&lpg=PA675&dq=vitale+defection&source=bl&ots=FNEAmt_xGR&sig=RKMReX1c9yv984svGKpNGhXI3ZM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=PTuPT43YNqXA6AGzkLH9Dg&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=vitale%20defection&f=false

[edit]Now I really did hit the paywall limit. I don't know if your archive subscription exempts you, but could you have a look to see if there's any more detail about Basciano being taped over wanting to kill Greg Andres? There might still be something in Donnie Brasco: Unfinished Business, and I'm thinking of getting a cheap copy off Amazon in lieu of a Google Books preview, but besides that and stuff in that Gangland article it might be set to go straight to FAC afterwards. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 20:06, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Angelo Prisco.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Angelo Prisco.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:19, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Thomaslucchese58.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Thomaslucchese58.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Stefan2 (talk) 18:28, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Mary Kavanagh
[edit]That's fine with me, Roger. Unless I think there are cases to be made for preservation, I usually don't oppose or comment on any of my articles being deleted. May I suggest the following for deletion as I don't think they meet the standards either - Ruben of Dairinis, Malsachanus, Fothadh an Fili, Loisin an Fili, Marcus Seoige, Jerome Alley, Adrian James Martyn, Tomás Laighléis, Seán Mac Brádaigh, Laurentius of Echternach - I suspect others could likewise be listed! Cheers, Fergananim (talk) 15:00, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
I removed your proposed deletion tag, because her most notable book is in the collections of many libraries, including one near me (NYPL). Bearian (talk)

Priya Niehaus
[edit]I'm confused about your comment on the Nomination of Priya Niehaus for deletion page that Priya has a "minor" role in the Twin Peaks revival? How do you know the size of her role? She is actually a named cast member, which was properly cited, and there are many others who are acting in this series that are not identified as cast members. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tfwn93 (talk • contribs) 00:21, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
- Being a named cast member is not a sign of notability. If were a main role, I think her name would have been announced with the stars. Please read this section WP:NACTOR for notability criteria on actors. When her career takes off, Priya would certainly qualify for a Wikipedia article. In any case, it will not be my decision to make. If you click the link in the Deletion box for "this article's entry", you can voice your opinion directly to the administrator. Hope that this was helpful Rogermx (talk) 01:07, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Galante Article
[edit]No of course not and yeah I saw it was a non-member, and thank you.
While I'm here I will be vigorously updating the American Mafia pages, adding some new and fresh sources (some are expired and no longer working) , the current captains and soldiers on separate American Mafia crime family pages are a problem, I've updated the informants and government witnesses sections. I was going to speak to a few Mob buffs on here and organise some reshuffling on the American Mafia pages so we can focus on 1 or 2 sections at a time. Any help will be appreciated.
ThePlane11 (talk) 00:26, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- That is a great idea. I did a lot of work on them in the past. Many of the sources were dubious and needed work. I have a NYT subscription, so if you want any info from there, I would be glad to help. Rogermx (talk) 01:20, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Nice. Well it's just a matter of organising what we need to do and then get cracking on. The problem with some of the "news" articles is that alot of media hype is out there (for example the 2015 first cop inducted into the Mob stories) and I've noticed some websites mixing up details and in general not caring, a common example is Michael Franzese who is referred as a "Mafia boss" alot when he wasn't one. I haven't even started on the captain section due to the need of sources to back it up, I remember when I first came on Wikipedia and Frank Cali was still listed as a captain when he was promoted to underboss and then boss within a span of 2-3 years. I mean some people were listed as captains when they were imprisoned. Some changes are needing done and the pages definitely need updated. --- I'm currently working on the Lucchese informant section, I've completed the other 4 pages. [edit]Adequate time has passed and consensus was reached for Talk:Knott's Berry Farm#Proposed merge with Haunted Shack. I think I can handle it if you would prefer. BiologicalMe (talk) 16:34, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
I had forgotten about it completely. I appreciate the reminder. If you could do it, that would be great. Rogermx (talk) 17:09, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! Rogermx (talk) 22:00, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
BSUG wikipage changes
[edit]Thanks for some great amends. However, you, at least I think it is you, have removed the names of the committee members and links to the subsections of the society's website where further info of each subsection can be found. I'm new to this so please explain why you have removed these important pieces of information? Thanks
GansThiagUrogynae (talk) 16:54, 11 May 2020 (UTC)GansThiagUrogynae
- Thank your for your comments. I removed the names in the interest of making the article more attractive to the average reader. Also, in some instances the names will change over time and need revision. Please feel free to re-add the names if you believe they are significant. Rogermx (talk) 17:04, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
AWB genfixes
[edit]Bring up the PrimeBOT issues at WP:AWB's bug section; the underlinked tag is added as part of AWB's genfixes and I don't really have control over that (though I'll probably turn that option off next bot run). And for the record, by indiscriminately reverting the bot's edits you've just borked all of those infoboxes. Primefac (talk) 02:11, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- I can say that the bot was indiscriminately re-adding wikilinks tags that I had previously removed from these articles because the articles did not need more wikilinks. Since I did not see any other way to get attention to this, I reverted them. I don't remember seeing anything in Wikipedia policy about bots having precedence over human editors. I am sorry about the infoboxes and I appreciate your turning off that option next time. Thank you. Rogermx (talk) 19:00, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Breaking Up (1985 film)
[edit]Hey Rogermx just checking why you reverted edit on Breaking Up (1985 film)? I added a reference and some extra information on the film - not sure what the error was. If I made a mistake please let me know :) all the best. Dutchy85 (talk) 02:40, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- Please accept my apologies. I was trying to revert a bot tagging on that article. Your edits were fine and am sorry they were reverted. Rogermx (talk) 19:02, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Revisions on NCAA basketball teams
[edit]I just observed your reversions to edits made by Primefac. For what reason? JSYK, these edits are initial test run for Wikipedia:Bot requests#Remove deprecated parameter "w/l" in Template:CBB schedule entry.
If you don't like seeing {{underlinked}}
tag, then just remove only the tag or feel free to discuss with the editor who added it. Don't undo the whole thing. – McVahl (talk) 06:42, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
The problem is that this bot (and other bots) are adding the tag indiscriminately to multiple articles in Wikipedia. I had previously removed the Wikilinks tags from these articles, only to have the bot come back and re-add them. Yes, I have previously discussed my concerns with this editor. Yes, I will eventually remove these tags, but then another bot will simply add them back again.
Wikipedia asks editors to reduced the number of articles with these tags, yet it allows autonomous programs (without the ability to judge their appropriate use) to put them in articles. I suggest we remove that tagging capability from the bots.
Irregardless, I will not revert any more articles for this reason. I appreciate your inquiry and I hope that I have answered your questions. Have a good day! Rogermx (talk) 14:21, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, I've disabled auto tagging for the bot and started a discussion about auto-adding the underlinked tag. Primefac (talk) 15:26, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Primefac, thank you very much. As I mentioned above, I will not revert any more edits for tagging. Rogermx (talk) 16:03, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- IDC about the underlink thing. The problem here is how you undo a revision. The bot, again as mentioned above, removes the “w/l” parameter because we’re in process of deprecating it. Reverting bot’s edit, as what you did, restores the “w/l” parameter. Make sure to check diff first before undo-ing anything. – McVahl (talk) 16:17, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for explanation. Perhaps in the future we can disable the undertag feature in bots so that deprecating a parameter does not bloat the list of articles with underlinked tags. Rogermx (talk) 13:02, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
AFD: Nigel Vardy
[edit]Hello. Thanks for reviewing my recent edits and for changing your !vote at WP:Articles for deletion/Nigel Vardy. I wonder if you think whether, for clarity, it might help if you were to strike through your original nomination? Not essential, but I just thought I'd suggest it as an idea for the closing admin. Kind regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 00:59, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

No Other Links to John Conroe
[edit]I checked and there is only one other link to add to John Conroe's Wikipedia page and was wondering if you can add it for me and if not can you tell me how to include another Wikipedia page to John Conroe's page. CarverSindile (talk) 23:53, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
- Do you mean creating a wikilink in John Conroe to another Wikipedia article? I would be glad to do that. What article did you want to link to? Rogermx (talk) 20:43, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Rename Patriots (novel series)
[edit]Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriots_(novel_series)
On the Goodreads page for the Patriots novel series, it says The Coming Collapse Series.

And I was wondering if it should be renamed or stay the same. CarverSindile (talk) 02:45, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Notability template
[edit]Hi again! I'm working on removing the {{underlinked}} tag from some articles, and stumbled across Nicholas Financial, and noticed that you added {{notability|undefined|date=February 2020}}
. Could you please help me understand why you would use "undefined" in {{notability}} instead of "corp" or another valid value? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 04:17, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help these articles, I do appreciate it. Regarding this article, I normally do add a value, but was moving too fast when I was tagging it. Do you put it in? Thank you. Rogermx (talk) 19:18, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- I normally do, and I did for this article. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:26, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Robert McGovern
[edit]Rogermx, what else do you think the Mcgovern article needs to get it right? BjornintheUSA (talk) 21:38, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Jorn. I noticed that some of the links are now dead ends, including the US Army one. I would see if there are any newspaper accounts that might fill in more of McGovern's background. I found a NY Times Article from Jan 12 1952 - Father Rejects Dead Sons' Medals; Calls Truman Unfit to Confer Them" that mentions the two sons were buried next to each other in Arlington Cemetery on November 15 1951. No other useful information. I hope this advice was useful Rogermx (talk) 16:52, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
I'll see what I can do BjornintheUSA (talk) 02:44, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
I don't think the NYTimes article refers to the same McGovern family https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1952/01/12/96491461.pdf?pdf_redirect=true&ip=0 BjornintheUSA (talk) 02:46, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
I checked all the links, and all are good now. I added a few links from top-tier sources. I could add more detail about the businesses--which are most certainly newsworthy--but I can't find anything else newsworthy about McGovern himself. BjornintheUSA (talk) 03:09, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
There are lots of other links, but I don't think there is any info in them I can add to McGovern's profile. Lots of articles on his companies work and what they are doing. But nothing in there on him (beyond what is already in the Wiki). There just isn't much info about him online. BjornintheUSA (talk) 17:41, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Use of the "Expert needed" template without category or reason parameters
[edit]I noticed that you added the {{Expert needed}} template to Solar power forecasting, but didn't specify a WikiProject category. Not specifying a category makes the template unhelpful, and adds it to the useless Category:Articles needing unspecified expert attention. (Additionally, it's crucial to add a reason=
parameter, or it will probably be removed because nobody can tell what the problem is). I've added a category for you, but please supply parameters when using that template in the future (i.e. {{expert needed|Politics|ex2=Economics|ex3=Finance & Investment|reason=These GDP figures look like they might be miscalculated}}. Cheers! jp×g 23:33, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

[edit]WP:PARAGRAPHS and MOS:BODY
[edit]Can I ask that you please review WP:PARAGRAPHS and MOS:BODY before you continue editing biographies? Breaking paragraphs into individual sentences disrupts the flow of the prose and thus topics of a similar nature should be grouped together in paragraphs to avoid a disjointed experience for the readers. Thank you. Canadian Paul 06:36, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, I am open to any changes you wish to make in the article. However, I do not agree with your reverting the entire article simply because of differences over style. By doing that, you may be reversing other important changes in the content. If I put something in a standalone sentence, it is because it represents a turning point in that person's personal history and should be emphasized for the reader. Like I said, if you disagree, you are welcome to make whatever changes. it should only takes a few minutes of your time. Thank you. Rogermx (talk) 14:44, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- I have made the those same edits several times and you keep restoring them with superficial changes so that they are not technically "reverts". That can be considered disruptive editing and is well within Wikipedia policy to revert. In any case, I have restored the article manually per WP:MOS; please do not reintroduce the MOS:BODY and WP:PARAGRAPHS violations and feel free to seek a third opinion if you disagree. I am happy to abide by any decision made there. Canadian Paul 15:19, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- I am sorry that you have had to repeat edits - I was unaware that this was happening. I will work to avoid the individual sentences in future revisions and will change them in other bishop articles that I open. Please let me know if you have concerns about any other particular articles and I will look at revising them. Rogermx (talk) 16:15, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- I think that the others are fine, this only caught my attention because I had to redo them. You're doing some good work with these articles, so sorry to have gotten hasty with the revert without messaging first. Canadian Paul 22:36, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

I reverted your additions to the article. There is nothing in your references that say the Bishop apologized on September 28th in regards to those two priests embezzling money. Furthermore, this is probably a case of WP:UNDUE. Why is this important to the bishop's article? Barbarito isn't even mentioned in two of the three references. Putting it in the diocese article I couldn't quibble with.
As for Fr. Gallagher and his allegations, that needs to be sourced properly because this a BLP. It is hard to tell, all the sources come at the end of a sentence about a priest being deported and another on Gallagher losing his appeal. BTW, you had the article saying 'Gallagher was due to become pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish in West Palm Beach, Florida when he learned that his new assistant pastor, Joseph Palimattom, had shown child pornography to a teenage boy. The Crux now article says Gallagher became head priest in April and that Palmattom didn't arrive till the following December.
What you added was a mess and this is a BLP. I'm not sure if Crux is a reliable source either and plan on going to the RS message board for an opinion....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 02:01, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
- First off, I am going to request that you review WP:CIV because your comment is sorely lacking in it. Secondly, The Crux Article was listed as an AP story - here is the link to it. https://apnews.com/article/dd56195e9a64402aba768338065ddaca It was a proper source The timing of when Gallagher met Palmatton is not the most important element of the story. You could have easily corrected it - that is what editors are supposed to do - instead, you wiped out the entire story without replacing it! As for the embezzlement, if you look at the NBC article, Barbarito talks about increasing financial controls for the diocese. As the head of the diocese, he is responsible for major crimes that happen, and this was a major crime. That story is now wiped out. By reverting the changes, you also wiped out the story about the Ogdensburg sexual abuse settlement. I hope that it wasn't your intent to sanitize the article by removing content that might make the subject look bad, but it sure looks that way. Rogermx (talk) 03:02, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
- A mess
- In none of the sources does it say Barbarito apologized
- In none of the sources does it say Gallagher wrote the Vatican
- In none of the sources does it say Gallagher was not yet pastor when Palimattom came to Holy Name
- In none of the sources does it say Barbarito returned Gallagher's call
- All of which you wrote into the article.
- Read WP:BLPREMOVE....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 11:29, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
- A mess
- I have no problem with you correcting or removing content. If you had asked, I would have made the corrections you pointed out. BLPREMOVE says to remove the content, not to revert the entire article. Wikipedia is about being collaborative, not combative. Let me quote from WP:REVERT "If you see a good-faith edit which you believe lowers the quality of the article, make a good-faith effort to reword instead of just reverting it. If there is a dispute, editors should work towards consensus. "
Reminder of Wikipedia Policies
[edit]Please review MOS:LINKONCE and MOS:NOPIPE. Do not add links if they have already been mentioned in the body of articles. In addition, changing links from, for example, Cardinal Blase Cupich to Cardinal Blase Cupich is unhelpful, serves no purpose, and is not consistent with Wikipedia policy. Please do not replace sources and move paragraphs around without communicating your reasons in edit summaries. I am afraid that many of your recent edits follow bad patterns and I have to ask you to revise your methods. Thank you. Display name 99 (talk) 15:59, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for your posting. I am trying to avoid making redundant links and I remove them when I see them. Frankly, I see no reason why not to add a title to a link - it is part of that person's name and it looks silly to be unlinked. Please explain that to me. I will add more explanations for moving paragraphs - I usually move them that to add more clarity to an article. I might mention that many of these items were previously cut and pasted from their sources. If you can give me more insight into the "bad patterns" that you refer to, or to a particular article, it would be helpful. Rogermx (talk) 16:07, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- Please be move careful about redundant links. No, a title is not part of a person's name. This is only true in very rare cases, ie. Pope Francis. Timothy Dolan's name is Timothy Dolan, not Cardinal Timothy Dolan or Timothy Cardinal Dolan. "Cardinal" merely signifies the office that he holds. It isn't part of his name. See WP:NOPIPE, which addresses specifically what you have been doing and labels it as unacceptable.
- One thing that might be more helpful would be if instead of making mass amounts of changes in one edit, you instead made different edits to the article. This way, you could describe them more easily and other editors would be able to follow what you are doing. Display name 99 (talk) 20:25, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- I accept your clarification on the titles in Wikilinks. I will be following that practice in the future. I will try to save edits more often. Thank you again. Rogermx (talk) 20:36, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

Would you consider becoming a New Page Reviewer?
[edit]
Hi Rogermx, I've recently been looking for editors to invite to join the new page reviewing team, and after reviewing your editing history, I think you would be a good candidate. Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; the new page reviewing team needs help from experienced users like yourself. Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, most pages are easy to review, and habits are quick to develop). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us. If you choose to apply, you can drop an application over at WP:PERM/NPR. If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message on my talk page or at the reviewer's discussion board. Cheers, and hope to see you around, (t · c) buidhe 22:18, 2 June 2022 (UTC) |

Auxiliary Bishops
[edit]Why are you taking out the titular titles? I've been working on getting the pages templated with each other since 2015! Roberto221 (talk) 21:32, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
- Am taking the titular titles out of the infoboxes because they are only ceremonial titles to convey an epistolic line of succession to long dead bishops. None of these bishops ever go to these places in Tunisia or Algeria - there are no Catholics there. I think that they serve to confuse the reader. However, if you feel that they are that important, I promise that I will restore them in all the articles and add them in articles that are missing them. I only ask that you hold off on reversions. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Michael Duca. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Elizium23 (talk) 03:13, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Rogermx, you appear to be widely editing a large number of articles in the topic area of Catholic bishops. I have challenged your decision to use a nonstandard Infobox parameter, and I have opened discussion on WT:CATHOLIC. You have ignored the challenges to go right on as before. Please cease and desist in your changes while discussion is underway. These reversions are designed to get your attention and cause you to discuss and establish a consensus for or against your changes. If you wish to edit-war instead, then I will be forced to seek further dispute resolution avenues, page protections, and disciplinary action against you. Elizium23 (talk) 03:15, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- I will look at the discussion as long as you stop reverting articles. I will also refrain from changing diocese to see during this time. If there is an edit war going on, you are the one who has started it. I welcome any dispute resolution and would be happy to pursue disciplinary actions against yourself if need be. Like I said before, you are the one misusing the reversion feature. Rogermx (talk) 03:41, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Good morning,
In this edit you mention that the Roman Catholic Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA was founded in 2017. Is this a typo? If not, then please cite the source where this information came from. Thank you. 70.108.3.201 (talk) 08:00, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, this is a typo. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will fix it this morning. Rogermx (talk) 13:27, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on List of Decrees of First Plenary Council in Baltimore (1852) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.newadvent.org/cathen/02235a.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sourcing
[edit]Hello. We recently had a conversation in response to an objection that I had to your edits at Donald Wuerl. My primary issue was that you inserted breaks between paragraphs without apparent reason and, most problematically, did not fix the citations. A paragraph could be cited to a source or two that would appear at the end, but by splitting the paragraph and not adding new citations to the end of the first new paragraph, you made that content appear unsourced. You promised to fix this, but you have just done the same thing to Thomas Paprocki. I can only imagine that you have done this to many other articles as well. Do you not realize that you are making information appear uncited, and making it more difficult for readers to verify what is in the articles? Have you learned your lesson or not? Display name 99 (talk) 05:14, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
I just looked at the Paprocki article. Every single paragraph has a citation at the end of it. Rogermx (talk) 16:15, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
- It does now because I fixed it. Display name 99 (talk) 01:04, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

February 2024
[edit]Hello, I'm Larry Hockett. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Felipe Pulido, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. We are missing a source to support a Bachelor of Philosophy (typically a postgraduate degree, earned after another bachelor’s degree). Larry Hockett (Talk) 16:14, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Larry, thank you for letting me know about this issue. I have found a reliable source and created a reference and citation for the Bachelor of Philosophy degree in the article. If you see any other issues, please let me know and I will address them. Rogermx (talk) 17:02, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- The current citation refers to a bachelor's degree in philosophy, not a Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil). This difference is what I have been trying to get at since we had the same discussion on my UTP a little more than a week ago. In the interest of accuracy, just go by what the source actually says, pretty please. Larry Hockett (Talk) 18:57, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- OK, I get it now. The BPhil is usually a post graduate degree. Will change in this article. Thanks for your patience. Rogermx (talk) 23:09, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- No problem. I would just note that the cited source doesn't say it's a BA either. It probably is a BA - in fact, a BA is a hundred times more likely than a BPhil here - but it would be best to go by the cited source and leave as a (lowercase) bachelor's degree in philosophy since the source does not specify. Larry Hockett (Talk) 14:16, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Re: "John Carroll reversion"
[edit]I've never edited an article called "John Carroll" (I'm assuming you're referring to this one). Frankly, I'm not surprised to see there are others who want to revert your problematic edits (which you mistakenly believe to be "improvements"). I'm certainly not going to be lectured about "taking the lazy route"
or how I should spend my time usefully by someone who (1) can't give me the correct article title of the page I was editing; or (2) thinks that copyedits like "The Redemptorists then sent as a missionary to Vieux Fort …"
are an improvement – they're evidently not. And so what if it is just my opinion that we shouldn't be using "Biography" as a section heading? I've brought 34 articles to good article status (18 of which are biographies, with 4 of them on Catholic bishops). None of those biographies use the heading "Biography". What quality content contributions have you been making lately that use "Biography" as a heading? —Bloom6132 (talk) 23:38, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- Frankly, I am not going to waste my time debating you. If you having nothing in Wikipedia policies that says what I am doing it wrong, I am going to continue doing it. I don't appreciate your condescending remarks either. I also don't care what awards you have gotten. I love Wikipedia, but editors like you make it less pleasant sometimes. Rogermx (talk) 00:50, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Wuerl article
[edit]In May, you made changes to the article on Donald Wuerl. You added a picture of Vigano.
