Administrator Elections: Discussion phase
[edit]The discussion phase of the October 2024 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- October 22–24 - Discussion phase
- October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
- November 1–? - Scrutineering phase
During October 22–24, we will be in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages will open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Discussion phase.
On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Bret Baier, info
[edit]Hi Ser!, since I am not that familiar with WP:ONUS, user FMSky "reverted" on Okt. 30, 2024 an important passage concerning Bret Baiers career, just by arguing "unnotable". I put the issue on the discussion page. Would you please have an eye on that? Thanks a lot. Peter Christian Riemann (talk) 11:43, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Peter Christian Riemann:, I see you've left a message on the article's talk page. Your best course of action would be to ping FMSky underneath it and get a discussion going about the content, where other editors can chime in. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 16:38, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
Eastern Cow
[edit]Eat fish you butt! you are probably some 20000 year old woman frog in south detroit. stop commenting on my posts, i am using facts, also don't put your pronouns on your talk page, it is maddening. also do i pronounce your name ( s-ee-r-ee) like the commonly used AI siri or like ( s-ur-ee). it is honestly maddening when someone doesn't say how to pronounce their name when they meet someone. also i will say that you are being smart mouthed by a 12 year old. but you are undignified to give me a complaint. i also want the $1,000,000 that you said that i would get, Seri. also are u sure that you are irish, because i'm pretty sure that i am talking to an old indian woman, also could you import some fresh potatoes to 1612 east gaylon Dr. tempe AZ, I would love some fresh Irish potatoesto go into my Irish stew also I've always wanted to ask this question to someone that is irish, do you like corned cabbage, and beef for christmas, because corned beef and cabbage is my all time favorite meal, and you should eat poached eggs, they are so good. bye now. Website names
[edit]Hi Ser! Good work checking the candidates against Returning Officer websites. It's something to finalise between today, with nominations closing, and Monday, with an opportunity for withdrawals. ROs natiobally will probably publish their final lists early next week. A small observation on the references you added: Template:Cite web says that for the website
parameter, "website: Title of website (when the website has a clear name, use that rather than the domain name)", so a title in these instances should probably be "Cork County Returning Officer", rather than "corkcountyreturningofficer.com". Iveagh Gardens (talk) 07:19, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- No worries, I’ve just been using the autofill cite - will note for future editing. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 10:19, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Query on your methods
[edit]Hello Ser! Per your comment at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Paul Gosling, could you enlighten me how you were able to find so many newspapers.com sources? Does this require a subscription? Thank you! starship.paint (talk / cont) 13:55, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hey @Starship.paint, yeah certainly. Most of my research has come from WP:The Wikipedia Library, which has a bunch of brilliant resources with news coverage from years past. The website I usually use is Newspapers.com, which requires a subscription but as part of TWL you can put in a request for database access - check out WP:Newspapers.com for more on that. A lot of sources (particularly on darts players) are available on there that can’t be found online, which helps my research a lot. Best, ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 14:02, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the help, Ser! I will have to reevaluate my AfD votes once I have gotten access to this tool. starship.paint (talk / cont) 14:12, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Of course. For what it's worth I've had a look through at a few of the AfDs and found sources for some but not gotten around to voting as I wasn't swayed one way or another, but I'll keep having a look through whenever I get a chance. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 14:54, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Dear ser! I have now gotten Newspapers.com access and it has definitely improved my judgement at AfDs. Thank you again! starship.paint (talk / cont) 14:55, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Ser!,
I guess you decided to close this AFD but you didn't do so correctly. The archived discussion is not correctly formatted, you haven't removed the AFD tag from the article or put the appropriate notice on the article talk page. Please finish this closure. Thank you. - My bad @Liz:. I think I've done it right this time. Will leave to the professionals in future. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 10:41, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
James Lawless
[edit]Hello Ser! Regarding Cuisle In James' personal website he mentions he was editor of Cuisle which was a FF Magazine currently dormant but which may be relaunched. This is a fact he is proud of hence it remains on his website and is also on the FF website too. Cuisle also has its own facebook page also. You may want to verify these facts.Devite (talk) 14:07, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Devite:, thanks for the message. Point taken on it being a magazine rather than a newsletter; I just don't know if writing a now dormant magazine, backed up as information only by the subject's own website, is notable enough to include in the article. ser! Re: Oxford child sex abuse ring
[edit]There's a lot more of these pages, and their view counts have gone from the low tens per day to over a thousand per day over the the couple of days [1] (this is perhaps connected to Elon Musk's X activity?). I've made a post at NPOVN with what I think are a comprehensive list of pages Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view/Noticeboard#"Muslim_grooming_gangs"_again, which you may find interesting. Hemiauchenia (talk) 15:39, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Musk mentioning them is what brought the page to my attention in the first place - because whenever he talks about something, you can rest assured there'll be a flood of dreadful edits and talk page messages accusing Wikipedia of "bias", "censorship" or doing the bidding of Bill Gates/Klaus Schwab/whoever else. Where Musk goes, a trail of pain follows... ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 15:42, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's just that the questionable editing has hardly been confined to the Oxford article. Take the activities of this user for example, which you may be interested in taking a look at. Hemiauchenia (talk) 15:47, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
