Rename
As requested, I've renamed you User:SquidSK. You will probably want to move your userpages to the new name. Warofdreams talk 02:07, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Great, thanks for your help! SquidSK 03:41, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Re: Ethernet Hub
Actually, I'm using Wikipedia popups--you can look it up, they're very useful--to revert back to your revision, after the user you originally reverted vandalised again. All good? — mæstrosync talk&contribs, 09:04, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Popups are great. The main feature is that, when you hover over WP links, they'll have a tooltip-type popup which contains an excerpt from the page and links for options like edit, talk, and revert (one-click reversion = great). For example, you can hover over the (diff) link on a recent pages article, hover over the name in the popup and see that the edit was vandalism, and go actions > revert. If you can't tell from the excerpt and you need to go to the diff page to see, once you've done that you can hover over the Revision as of xxx link to get the actions menu.
PS: Just noticed your followup message. — mæstrosync talk&contribs, 09:19, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Welcome to Esperanza!
Welcome, SquidSK, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!
Re: Welcome template
I used Template:welcomeg. -- Gogo Dodo 07:41, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome. All the welcome templates should be at Wikipedia:Welcome templates, but I have seen people adapt one of the "standard" templates to be their own. Different colors, formatting, etc. I don't do a lot of welcoming, so I just use one of the standard templates. -- Gogo Dodo 07:48, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Re: Evoknow
It's spam, but it's actually worse than that. It's copyright violation. If you visit their website [1], you'll see that the editor changed all the "our" to "they". You should tag it for speedy delete for copyright violation. -- Gogo Dodo 07:55, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- Usually when I see a new article that is fairly long with really odd formatting, I start looking to see where the article was cut and pasted from. Either I Google for the first sentence (or something that looks unique enough) or visit the subject's website to see what got copied. -- Gogo Dodo 08:03, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Blocked indefinitely :) Glen 12:53, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Has been protected :) Also, I get no credit for any of this, one editor blocked him before I got there, another reverted his talk page vandalism and protected. Keep up the great work :) Glen 14:02, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

indiscriminate collection
No, there is nothing wrong with honest how-to articles. The page says not to give how-to. It is wrong. The part that says no how-to articles is totally wrong and will not be tollerated by me.--Chuck Marean 16:18, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
My RfA
Thank you for supporting my RfA, and thank you very much for your kind words! I was starting to feel like the value of the basic hard work of maintaining and growing the encyclopedia wasn't going to get a favorable reception compared to what my "Wikipolitics" were.
Atlant 19:05, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it's been a week now that I've been an administrator and I'd like to take this moment to once again thank everyone who supported my RfA, and to let you all know that I don't think I've screwed anything up yet so I hope I'm living up to everyone's expectations for me. But if I ever fall short of those expectations, I'd certainly welcome folks telling me about it!

Ok trying to figure out why on Earth my name appears on some random wikipedia page, I guess cause I tried to make a page about myself, which I thought I could cause I saw thing like yours like the User:SqidSK thing, so I'm just being nice enough to ask you to remove it, because I don't like having my name down for doing something wrong thanks a bunch (please remove within the next week or I will) Sandbrgcatholic2728 18:55, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
HEY!! THANKS!! I guess it should take a little while before it disappears from google, but thanks a bunch, just didnt want any future employers reason to not pick me, dumb reason, but all the same. Clean net record.

WikiProject Louisville growing and changing
WikiProject Louisville is sprouting its wings for 2007! We have a new Assessment Department and a much more refined project template. We have nearly 1,000 articles catalogued for our project. And we still have a lot of work to do. We have 500+ articles left to assess for quality, and all our articles, as always, need tender loving care. Please consider dropping by the project and seeing what you might be able to do to move Louisville-related articles forward. Cheers, and Happy New Year! Stevie is the man! bigaboom! Don't hesitate to request speedy deletion on this kind of articles that are obvious copy pastes ;) -- lucasbfr talk 09:43, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think so. I know some users are oftentimes tagging old user pages for deletion when the user did not contribute to the encyclopedia and is away for a long time. On the page you mentioned, It is an obvious case where you an request {{db-spam}} or A7. -- lucasbfr talk 09:58, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
no problem ;). I think the speedy deletion is the way to go there, they need to assert that the band is notable in any way. If you have any doubt (personally I think they don't assert meeting WP:BAND), think of bringing it to afd. By the way, a useful tip, if they remove the speedy deletion tag but leave the hangon, the page stays in the speedy deletion category :) (but it's better to have both) -- lucasbfr talk 10:27, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm using my very own template: User:Lucasbfr/s and some javascript magic in my monobook to add the good arguments :] (doing the same for speedy deletions and warning, to be honest ;)) -- lucasbfr talk 10:40, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Re: Notability of Sean Riney
I'm just filling out relevant information concerning myself, I am new to Wikipedia and felt this was a good exercise before moving onto other people's articles. However I do feel that the information I have included in this particular article is more fact than opinion and though the information is relevant to myself and that I've written it could be perceived as a conflict of interest, I see no harm in it. Though I thank your steady attention to entries :) SeanRiney 11:26, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Re: Zoey Grey
Contray to my username, this article is not about myself it's about a girl who has been on no less than three major television networks today and several radio stations and will also be featured in several upcoming print articles in major press.
Speedy Deleting this article was uncalled for.. I wasn't even finished adding references, but with the references that i did manage to post in the 15 or so minutes before it was deleted it should be deserving of atleast an AfD review.
Please tell me how to go about a restoration review for this page on my talk page as I'm kind of lost and can't find were to file for it, thank you! ZoeyGrey 22:10, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Re: speedy deletion tag on Haunted Manor
I assume the text of your message on my talk page tonight is a standard one. The text says: "Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, ... affix the template hangon to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --SquidSK
Here's the question: can you confirm I am correct to ignore the "do not remove the ... tag yourself" since the page was intended to be (and now is) a redirection? See its talk page for more. Please note, SquidSK, that you only gave me 52 seconds from creation to tagging!
Iph 21:03, 10 May 2007 (UTC)iph
Hi again. You replied: "Yes, I tagged it within 52 seconds of creation. That is called New Pages patrolling. A new page needs to be justifiable in its first edit."
Well may I refer you to this from Wikipedia:New pages patrol: "It is advisable to patrol new pages from the bottom of the first page of the log. This should give the creating editor enough time to improve a new page before a patroller attends to it, particularly if the patroller tags the page for speedy deletion. Tagging anything other than attack pages or complete nonsense a minute after creation is not constructive and only serves to annoy the page author." Thank you. Iph 11:50, 11 May 2007 (UTC)iph
Wikipedia is not a dictionary
Hi SquidSK! Sorry for misunderstanding. My aim was not to transform Wikipedia into a dictionary but only to prepare more encyclopedic communications on toponymy (and in particular European oronymy and hydronymy) or why not on anthroponymy. If effectively Wiktionary is the right place for common words etymology, I consider Wikipedia more suitable to place name etymology (an academic discipline) for the following reasons: toponymic roots don't generally belong to a specific language; they are often hypothetical, they are the result of linguistic analyses that need encylopedic developments; places may be related on geographical, historical and linguistical criteria. I just wanted to provide Wikipedia with some elementary bricks (less then 100) that allow the anlysis of European placenames. Some of them very old (alp-, barr-, went-, mal...) some other are more related to geographical areas or historical layers (Germanic, Celtic,...). The interest is of course encyclopedic development by other contributors and the navigation from toponym to root and inversely. PA 09:41, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Thomas Linzey page
Hey SquidSk, I was just wondering if I am blocked completely from editing anything or just the Thomas Linzey page? I really think that he does deserve a page, or atleast about the organization CELDF, but I guess I'm not the right person for that job. It was my first page, didn't mean to cause any trouble.LM08 14:59, 15 May 2007 (UTC)LM08

Longford Reserve Limited
Squid: you squished my page on this topic as being nonsense (22:53, 10 May 2007.) I don't feel that a secretive corporation (with not a single web hit) which owns an entire township of 64,000 acres near my home is nonsense...i was kind of hoping that someone with some more interesting information would happen upon the page and edit into it some more detail...

Re: UPS Airlines
Squid, note the difference: UPS vs. UPS Airlines. While the company known as United Parcel Service is indeed a highly influential element in Louisville and the metropolitan area, the unit within UPS known as UPS Airlines is not a major factor in the Louisville economy. My comment was specifically about passenger air service via UPS Airlines, not UPS as a whole. --Carl (talk|contribs) 23:51, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- The best way to do that is to include the information into the appropriate section in the UPS main article where it will be more visible. The UPS Airlines article is only slightly longer (looking at the actual article content, not the meta information) than the Fleet section of the main article. I also couldn't find a single wikilink from United Parcel Service to UPS Airlines except for my merge proposal. There's only a "see also" link in the other direction. The airline link in the opening paragraph only sends the reader down to the Fleet section, not to the UPS Air article. I would do the merge myself, but I'm not really sure whether the article or the section has the most current information. --Carl (talk|contribs) 07:22, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
