Writerbuster (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
When I tried to edit an article a message said I am not allowed to do so because IP address 117.217.48.0/20 has been blocked due to "vandalism". I do not know what is the issue with this IP address. I don't think any vandalism has taken place from my PC. Kindly investigate and let me know. If no problem, then unblock.
Accept reason:
Unfortunately, waiting for the blocking administrator, Cyphoidbomb, to respond to SQL's question below is not likely to be useful, because Cyphoidbomb abruptly stopped editing in April. I have therefore gone ahead without Cyphoidbomb. I can't see any reason why the block shouldn't be anon-only, and since Cyphoidbomb isn't a Checkuser it seems unlikely that he knows of a relevant reason invisible to me, so I have made the block anon-only. JBW (talk) 16:09, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
- It's not necessarily that vandalism came from your PC - but more likely from someone else using the same internet service provider as you. @Cyphoidbomb: would you be OK with me reducing the block on 117.217.48.0/20 to Anon only? !ɘM γɿɘυϘ⅃ϘƧ 03:40, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks JBW. Honestly, I meant to get this one after giving it ~24h. Forgot all about it. Good catch. !ɘM γɿɘυϘ⅃ϘƧ 20:37, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Orient Paperbacks
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Orient Paperbacks, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hatchens (talk) 08:46, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Writerbuster. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:26, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

[edit]People who write about companies more often than not have a COI, which is why I put guidance as to what to do if you have a COI. I have not accused you of having a COI, and I'm happy to accept your assurance that you do not.
That doesn't mean you can write what you like, you must follow the guidance below:
- you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the organisation or company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, logs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the company or organisation claims or interviewing its management. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
- Most of your refs were not acceptable sources despite what you claim, they include the group's own websites and interviews with CEOs of the companies, what we need is independent third-party sources, not the company or its management talking about themselves.
- The notability guidelines for organisations and companies have been updated. The primary criteria has five components that must be evaluated separately and independently to determine if it is met:
- significant coverage in
- independent,
- multiple,
- reliable,
- secondary sources.
- Note that an individual source must meet all four criteria to be counted towards notability.
- The fact that some of its authors are notable doesn't automatically make the company notable, that has to be established separately, and as you can see from the criteria requires independent sources.
- You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews. Opinions presented as facts include leading publishing house of India... it has launched the literary careers of several new authors who went on to achieve international acclaim... This book deal was a major turnaround for the company... It has also launched the careers of several new authors like Anita Desai who went on to achieve international acclaim.. You also give us unverified claims like distribution network with more than 1000 trade outlets... more than 2000 published titles on its shelves. The current turnover of the company is around USD 4 million. , and referring to Kapil Malhotra just by his first name is at the least unencyclopaedic.
- There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
- You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:55, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
You cannot generalise that people writing about companies "generally" have a conflict of interest. That shows your bias and prejudgment, isn't it? If you don't like the tone/tenor of my article, you are free to edit it, or point the same out so that someone else or I myself can edit it. But can you simply delete it outright? My full day's work is lost. You don't feel bad about it? There is hardly any student or scholar in India who has not read a book published by Orient Paperbacks. And you think it does not deserve a Wikipedia entry? May I know why?? Writerbuster (talk) 14:49, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
Mirrors
[edit] Thanks for contributing to the article Sahitya Akademi Award. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Most mirrors are clearly labeled as such, but some are in violation of our license and do not provide the correct attribution. Please help by adding alternate sources to the article you edited! If you need any help or clarification, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Thank you. [edit]I really appreciate you for catching Barun Roy and proposing it for deletion though better was to AfD it. This has remained as it is from last 15 years. You may use Twinkle as an easy tool for tagging articles with various maintenance templates. However, remember WP:BEFORE is necessary before you proceed with any deletion-related tag. Thanks! ─ The Aafī (talk) 18:12, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
I do not have the expertise of experienced wiki editors. I do not know advanced tools. So I can only flag articles for other other experienced people to take a final decision. Tagging AfD will be too drastic. I have noticed many such spurious articles. Should I mark them all with AfD tag, or leave the task for more experienced guys? Thanks.
