- Does not sound like a good idea per WP:SMALLCAT, i.e. not until we have several murder articles per year in the Thirteen Colonies. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:13, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- Never likely to be any more articles. Rathfelder (talk) 22:32, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- Per WP:smallcat concerns revising target to category:17th century murders in the Thirteen Colonies.GreyShark (dibra) 09:44, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:1989 in East Berlin to Category:1989 in Berlin and Category:1980s in East Berlin and Category:1989 in East Germany
- Propose deleting Category:Years in East Berlin
- Nominator's rationale: per WP:SMALLCAT.
Category:1989 in East Berlin contains only one page, and it is is the only subcat of Category:Years in East Berlin. - There may be enough content to populate Category:Decades in East Berlin (tho the categories are currently thin), but there's not enough for by-year. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:48, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

but shouldn't it also be merged to Category:1989 in Berlin?Marcocapelle (talk) 20:17, 8 October 2020 (UTC)- Yes, indeed it should, @Marcocapelle. That's why the nomination proposes that. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:58, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: do not rename. MER-C 18:56, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: I want this renamed so it can fit the caliber for all notable positions in the trade union such as Vice presidents. It can cover a broader spectrum of pages. ֆօʍɛɮօɖʏǟռʏɮօɖʏ05 (talk) 15:23, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Renaming to generic people risks this category including all members, duplicating Category:NBA players' association current and former members, which was deleted. Limiting to presidents is consistent with other subcategories at Category:Leaders of American trade unions.—Bagumba (talk) 15:44, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Renaming as proposed. Would Category:Leaders of National Basketball Players Association be acceptable as an alternative?--intelatitalk 17:28, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- Rather than renaming it, let's keep this category and create the people category for the larger group of non-presidents whose notability is in part derived from their position in the NBPA. This can be a sub-category of that group.--User:Namiba 18:33, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Following Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2020 September 29#Category:Wikipedians who like Beastars, here are more categories that only contain unused userboxes, no actual users. Note: I have ensured that the userboxes are in appropriate manga/TV/book fan template categories, so they can be found by that route. – Fayenatic London 08:55, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

- If there is now one editor in the category then I suggest the category should be merged to its parent by genre/sport/etc, e.g. Category:Wikipedians who have 3D printers to Category:Wikipedians interested in technology, by editing the template. If the template's creator or another interested editor later checks how many user pages link to a template, and finds a worthwhile number, then this CFD would not rule out re-creating that category. – Fayenatic London 21:53, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

- I have noticed many categories that are populated solely by User:Dwscomet/Footy Userboxes, which is a show page for User:Dwscomet's userbox creations. User:Taxman1913 likewise is the only editor in many of his categories. I would suggest that such categories could usefully be likewise nominated for merger/deletion. – Fayenatic London 21:53, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- There's also a large number of categories in which the only member is User:Buaidh/Join this regional residence category, User:Buaidh/Join this regional identity category, User:Buaidh/Join this ethnicity category, or User:Buaidh/Join this regional project category. I was thinking about nominating them for deletion a while ago, but never got around to it. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:37, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Pppery and Fayenatic london: the numner of user categories has grown to absurd level, and needs some systematic cull. (I am collecting stats). Buaidh's main activity seems to be creating them prolificly without raegard to the WP:UCAT principle that
Categories by ancestry, by religion, by sports fandom etc are badges of identity or affiliation, which are at best of no help to encyclopedic collaboration. At worst they have potential to be disruptively factionalising.the purpose of user categories is to aid in facilitating coordination and collaboration between users for the improvement and development of the encyclopedia.
However, so long as userboxes exist which populate these categories, it is helpful to have to categories pre-created and populated by these list pages ... because otherwise they flood Special:WantedCategories, wasting the time of the small number of editors who patrol that page. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:10, 12 October 2020 (UTC)- Most of the user categories on Buaidh's lists are populated by templates using Template:Uir as a meta-template. I've modified Template:Uir/sandbox to only populate categories if they actually exist. * Pppery * it has begun... 15:45, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
- I've narrowed my delete !vote to the ones with only userboxes. (I'm neutral on the one's that have been populated since this nomination) * Pppery * it has begun... 23:37, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
