Overview

[edit]

The project coordinators are generally responsible for maintaining all of the procedural and administrative aspects of the project, and serve as the designated points-of-contact for procedural issues. They are not, however, endowed with any special executive powers.

The Lead Coordinator bears overall responsibility for coordinating the project; the Coordinators aid the Lead Coordinator and focus on specific areas that require special attention.

Responsibilities

[edit]

From Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Coordinators:

The primary responsibility of the project coordinators is the maintenance and housekeeping work involved in keeping the project and its internal processes running smoothly; this includes a variety of tasks, such as keeping the announcement and open task lists updated, overseeing the assessment and review processes, managing the proposal and creation of task forces, and so forth. There is fairly little involved that couldn't theoretically be done by any other editor, of course—in only a few places have the coordinators been explicitly written into a process—but, since experience suggests that people tend to assume that someone else is doing whatever needs to be done, it has proven beneficial to formally helping to informally resolve disputes and keep discussions from becoming heated and unproductive. The coordinators are not, however, a body for formal dispute resolution; serious disputes should be addressed through the normal dispute resolution process.

The coordinators also have several additional roles. They serve as the project's designated points of contact, and are explicitly listed as people to whom questions can be directed in a variety of places around the project. They also try to regularly contribute to the reviews involving film-related articles, looking out in particular for reviews which require additional voices. In addition, they have highly informal roles in leading the drafting of project guidelines, overseeing the implementation of project decisions on issues like category schemes and template use, and helping to informally resolve disputes and keep discussions from becoming heated and unproductive. The coordinators are not, however, a body for formal dispute resolution; serious disputes should be addressed through the normal dispute resolution process.

Some more specific examples of day-to-day coordinator work can be found here.

Andrzejbanas

[edit]

Andrzejbanas (talk · contribs)

Hello fellow film-fanatics! This is my first time applying to be a coordinator for WP:Films. I've been on Wikipedia since 2006 simply adding infoboxes to the film articles, to eventually figuring out how the whole system works. I was helped by several editors in my junior years here who taught me the ropes and I'd like to show new users the same respect and attitude that I was shown so I do not feel overcome by some standards applied to by Wikipedia.

Comments and questions for Andrzejbanas

[edit]
  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Films?
    • I've worked quite hard on several articles on foreign and classic films. Some of which have passed for Good article status. These include Rififi, The Orphanage, and Vampyr. Don't let the foreign and classic films put you off as me being pretentious, as I also worked on filmography articles for James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez. I also (for some reason) worked to pass the Jean-Claude Van Damme film Hard Target as a good article! :)
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Films coordinator?
    • As a co-coordinator I'd like to help as many new users as I can in aiding them to pursue their goals and help educate them about Wikipedia standards. I pay close attention WP:Films front and talk page often making edits that announce new GA-nominations as well as clearing out old films which do not meet their standards anymore. I try to handle disputes by talking them out on talk pages with new users rather then simply reverting them as I do not wish to scare any newcomers away. What I will attempt to do as coordinator would be to review more GA noms so users will not have to wait a month to find out if their article they've been working hard on has passed for GA-quality.

Big Bird

[edit]

Big Bird (talk · contribs)

I've been a Wikipedian for over three years now. It took me a little while to find a specific field of interest; I used to edit very nomadically but the bulk of my edits from the last year or so have been film related. Even though I'm not a GA/FA contributor just yet, I do enjoy helping others whenever I can and I think this WikiProject would benefit from my increased involvement.

Comments and questions for Big Bird

[edit]
  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Films?
    • I've created over 50 articles so far, most of which were about films or were film related. I've also significantly expanded a few stub articles, Meet the Parents being the one on which I did the largest amount of work. Even though it's not GA material yet, Meet the Parents was a stub when I first got to it and now, 150 edits later, I believe, it's a pretty solid B-class article which I'm currently trying to upgrade to GA. I've written or expanded nine articles which were featured in the Did you Know? section of the main page, all but two of those being films or film related. The most recent DYK credit to my name is for Asylum Seekers which was nominated for deletion and looked like this when I started editing it but I was able to single-handedly save it from deletion and expand it to DYK quality before the AfD debate was finished.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Films coordinator?
    • I have a solid grasp of policies and guidelines and am able to discuss them civilly and intelligently as well as explain them to any newcomers or editors needing help. As most other people on WP Films, I posses pretty extensive knowledge about individual films and enjoy sharing this information whenever it can be used to help improve this WikiProject. I'm not afraid or unwilling to do cleanup or minor tedious edits either so I'd be glad to be able to help in that regard.

  2. As above, good work already, and more to come. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 14:32, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Being a GA/FA contributor is admirable, but someone needs to take the first step to help articles achieve that status by expanding stubs and cleaning up articles that desperately need it. You've done good work and I anticipate seeing a lot more. LiteraryMaven (talkcontrib) 13:31, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bovineboy2008

[edit]

Bovineboy2008 (talk · contribs)

Hello everyone. I am kind of a new Wikipedian to the Film project, although I have now been contributing consistently for over a year and a half. I think that the project is going through some major changes right now and I feel my views could have a great deal of help with the stability and helpfulness of new, changing, or old policies and guidelines. I have worked in a lot of other projects, including WP:VG and WP:TV, as well as trying to branch out into the WP:ACTOR project.

Comments and questions for Bovineboy2008

[edit]
  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Films?
    • Although I haven't created m/any film articles or brought them up to GA or FA status, I have helped in maintaining a lot of lists, including lists of films and box-office information. I am always up to updating really old articles to conform with newer guidelines and changes in templates and infoboxes.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Films coordinator?
    • I have probably seen every animated film since 2000 (thanks in part to my little brother) and while these films are often overlooked, they really are an art in the film industry and I am willing to work with these sorts of articles. I am usually swift in posts to talk pages on the project or some of the articles' talk pages. I am willing to do rough copy-edits and formatting references to be more useful, and I am always willing to collaborate on or "have a look" at articles other users want help with.

Collectonian

[edit]

Collectonian (talk · contribs)

Seeking "reelection", I guess? :-) I've done one term as a coordinator, and while I'm not sure how well I did, I'd be interested in continuing if others felt I did well. For the short summary of my editing for those who don't know me, I'm approaching my five year anniversary of editing at Wikipedia and now have over 80,000 edits under my belt, with a good 20% or so of my edits are in the user and article talk spaces. In addition to my work with Film articles, I'm heavily active in the Anime and manga project, a strong supporter of the implementation of the MoS for film articles, and a firm believer in the use of reliable sources. Sometimes hot tempered when "defending" an article against vandalism, OR, or excessive plot, but it all stems from a passionate love of Wikipedia in general, and my personal belief that the article, and their quality, should always come first.

Comments and questions for Collectonian

[edit]
  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Films?
    • As I mentioned at the last election, I'm proud that I was able to take several "B" movie artcles up from really bad stubs to GA articles, including Category 6: Day of Destruction, Grizzly Rage, and Maneater. I'm also particularly proud that I took White Dog, a film I was surpised to find had only a very small stub considering its history, up to GA status. Since the last election, I also gained my first film featured article, Meerkat Manor: The Story Begins, which is part of the Meerkat Manor featured topic and our seventh FA for the year. Also had three film DYKs :)
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Films coordinator?
    • I am a firm believer in following the guidelines and policies of Wikipedia (without rules, there is only chaos), and, as noted, a great fan/believer in the Film MoS. I'm not afraid to "jump into the fray" when dealing with inexperienced editors or overly eager fans who may not be as concerned about the quality of articles or may not know what is and is not appropriate content. At times, it works against me, and I won't hide my having a couple 3RR blocks from losing patience and not letting others deal with it (and from being online WAY too much). I can be a bit anal and a mild neat-freak, so dealing with organizational related tasks doesn't bother me at all. I'm gaining skill in using AWB to handle more tedious tasks, as well. More than anything, I enjoy editing and would like to help to continue to support the Film project in growing in maturity and awesomeness, and expanding our . I'm also not biased towards are article, having no qualms about delisting our GAs or sending Film articles for FA if they no longer meet the appropriate criteria, or tagging articles with issues. I also perform tough, but I'd like to think fair, GAN reviews that are nearly bullet proof when they pass.

Erik

[edit]

Erik (talk · contribs)

Hello, everyone! I am a long-time contributor to Wikipedia, most especially articles under WikiProject Films. I have been a coordinator for three terms, including being the lead coordinator for the present term. Wikipedia is a work in progress, so by extension, WikiProject Films is a work in progress. I would like to help it progress by promoting best practices and providing guidance for editors new and old. I also ask other editors who participate in the election to consider being candidates themselves. If you have a penchant for discussion, throw your hat in the ring! Wikipedia is an ongoing learning experience for all of us.

Comments and questions for Erik

[edit]
  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Films?
    • I have written multiple Good Articles, both on my own and in collaboration with others. I have also written a Featured Article, Fight Club, which has been a long-term pet project for me. I am most proud of article-building because the greatest aspect of Wikipedia is to inform so publicly. It is nice to see that film articles on Wikipedia are often at the top of search engines' results and that page view statistics show the number of people that read the articles daily. Another achievement that holds a certain pride for me is my work on the WikiProject's guidelines to update them with best practices. I have rewritten existing sections to be more modern and have contributed new sections for previously unaddressed elements of film articles.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Films coordinator?
    • I enjoy helping other editors and collaborating with them. The revision history statistics for WT:FILM show that I have over 770 edits on the WikiProject's main talk page, more than any other editor. I try to make WikiProject Films a welcoming place for everyone, and I like to collaborate with others on figuring out solutions for individual articles or completing objectives on the agenda for WikiProject Films. My article-building experience has taught me about the best resources to use, and I do my best to share them with other editors. In summary, my experience in article-building and working with other editors qualifies me as a candidate who can collaborate with other coordinators to improve WikiProject Films and its related articles.
  • What are your goals as a Films coordinator?
    • I wrote this question for myself in the last election, and I'm repeating it for this election. In this past term, I put together an agenda for the coordinators so we can have a better picture of what objectives could be accomplished. My goal is to accomplish some of these objectives and work toward others' completion (as some are long-term). For example, I want to continue improving the guidelines to address any persistent issues in film articles and to guide editors in writing solid film articles. Most editors will edit film articles in passing, and I believe that we can recruit some to become more dedicated contributors if we collaborate with them and show them that there is a community from which they can draw resources. My impression is that there are several "lone wolves" who contribute great works, and I hope to find and motivate editors to both contribute great works and help others contribute similar works, may it be through peer review or sharing of resources.

Lugnuts

Lugnuts (talk · contribs)

Hello! I've been involved in editing on WP for a few years now, with the vast majority of edits around WP:FILM.

Comments and questions for Lugnuts

[edit]
  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Films?
    • I've now created over 6,500 articles for the project. Over the past year I've been working on the Cannes Film Festival since 1946 to fill in the gaps of missing films, directors, actors and adding references to existing articles. Yes, I do start lots of stubs, but I believe there is a Wiki-Culture that puts of some users (esp. new people) from creating articles (tagging instead of helping, un-friendly interface, etc). Quite a fair few of the articles I start then get expanded by other users. My proudest new article was my my 6,000th, by one of my favourite directors, which turned out to be the Palme d'Or winner this year.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Films coordinator?
    • Tagging and categorizing articles. Many film articles are missing essential categories and tags, and I ensure that to the best of my ability I add the relevant tags/categories.

Nehrams2020

[edit]

Nehrams2020 (talk · contribs)

Hello fellow WP:FILMS' members! I have served as a coordinator for the project for the last four terms, and still enjoy helping out members and improving the project behind-the-scenes. Films are one of my main focuses on Wikipedia, and when I'm not working on images, GAs, or other areas, I'm off watching more films (or for the most fun, watching films while editing Wikipedia!). I continue to work on writing the monthly newsletter, greeting new members, and helping other editors to improve their writing skills for film articles. I'm eager to continue to help the project expand and improve its content, and look forward to the upcoming Tag & Assess drive.

Comments and questions for Nehrams2020

[edit]
  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Films?
    • I've been proud of my various GA/FA/FLs related to the project as well as just improving articles that are stubs, have poor grammar, excessive plots, missing infoboxes, etc. It's always great to see somebody improving an article to a higher class, and hopefully some of the articles I have worked on have been used as models for improving other articles. Contributing to the newsletter has been fun to write each month, and I like using it to help members connect on common issues and articles that need assistance. I have also enjoyed getting multiple free images that have been used for various film articles, and am always looking for more to further improve other articles.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Films coordinator?
    • As an administrator, I can help with assorted issues that arise for members that need assistance. I try to take part in discussions when I can, and usually contribute to many of the issues raised on the coordinator discussion page. I have worked with or know of many of the members of the projects, and do my best to assume good faith and help others when I can (my talk page is always open). I believe that allows for the best way in improving article content while also providing a great environment for new members to consider joining the project. Finally, I've watched a lot films, so I usually can weigh in on discussions that are for individual films.
