"Dynamite" es el cuarto sencillo del música inglés Taio Cruz, de su segundo álbum Rokstarr. Fue escrito por Tario Cruz, Max Martin, Bonnie McKee y Dr. Luke, y producido por Dr. Luke y Benny Blanco para la versión internacional de Rokstarr. En el Reino Unido se publicó como el primer sencillo de su álbum recopilatorio The Rokstarr Collection. El 30 de mayo de 2010 fue publicado en los EE. UU. y en Canadá como su segundo sencillo y en el resto de Europa como el cuarto sencillo. La mezcla oficial cuenta con la participación de la nueva estrella del sello discográfico, Jennifer Lopez. "Dynamite" se convirtió en el segundo sencillo de Cruz en alcanzar el número 1 en las listas UK Singles Chart y Canadian Hot 100, además de las listas de Bélgica, Irlanda, Australia y Nueva Zelanda.

Trasfondo y lanzamiento

La canción salió al mercado británico el 23 de agosto de 2010.[1]​ Según la revista Rap Up, Cruz ha grabado una remezcla oficial de la canción con su colega del sello discográfico Jennifer Lopez.[2]​ Según Cruz "La canción 'Dynamite' trata sobre cuando vas al club, cuando vas a una fiesta y cuando sales ... te tienes que sentir como, 'Voy a explotar.'"[3]​

Crítica

La canción ha recibido críticas mixtas o bien positivas de los críticos de música contemporánea. A la hora de opinar sobre "Rokstarr", Jon Caramanica del The New York Times su balance fue mixto, diciendo que tiene "una letra insulsa para navegar (“Hit the floor cause that’s my plans plans plans plans/I’m wearing all my favorite brands brands brands brands,”), pero sin perturbar tu estado de ánimo, que es empático y raras veces sensual".[4]​ Nick Levine de Digital Spy concedió a la canción 4 estrellas de un máximo de 5, otorgando una crítica positiva: "una adecuado vehículo de club de eurohouse en el fondo se trata de un petardo barato, con gusto y enteramente satisfactorio".[5]​

Chart performance

Dynamite" debuted at number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number 13 on the Digital Songs chart, selling 83,000 copies in its opening week.[6]​ The single rose to number 14 on the week ending 10 July 2010 and on the week ending 21 August 2010, the single climbed to a peak of #2,[7]​ giving Taio Cruz his second top three single in the US. It also became Cruz's second consecutive number one single on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart in its 21 August 2010 issue.[cita requerida] By the end of December 2010, "Dynamite" had sold over 4,080,000 digital copies in the United States, which makes it Cruz's highest selling song.[8]​ The single debuted on the Canadian Hot 100 at number eight on the week ending 17 June 2010, marking Cruz's second top ten hit in the country. The following week the single fell to number seven, where it remained for four consecutive weeks. On the week ending 18 September 2010, the song peaked at number one, becoming Cruz's second Canadian number one single, following "Break Your Heart"'s two week run at the top spot in May 2010.The song became the best selling single in Canada during 2010 with sales of 319,000 copies[9]​

On the chart dated 16 August 2010, "Dynamite" topped the New Zealand Singles Chart and was certified gold, selling 7,500 copies.[10]​ The song top the Irish Singles Chart in its first week, becoming the singer's first number one, following previous number two hit 'Break Your Heart'.[11]​ In Cruz's native United Kingdom, "Dynamite" charted at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart on August 29, 2010. This became Taio's second number 1 single in his homeland. It knocked Green Light by Roll Deep off the summit, and in turn was knocked off by Please Don't Let Me Go by Olly Murs a week later.

Music video

On 9 July MTV released an exclusive sneak peek of the video.[12]​ The video also premiered on 17 July.[13]​ According to MTV, Cruz "rides a fast bike and stops by a school where he kicks off a firework party with the ladies in attendance. Toward the end of the video, the moon sets and Cruz gives an impromptu concert of sorts with the lady mechanics as his audience. Soon, an enormous, fiery explosion goes off behind the star, before subsiding into a shower of sparks, which, according to Cruz, is the perfect backdrop for the subtext of his song".[14]​ According to Cruz his inspiration came from "wanting to do things on a bike" since his previous videos included cars and boats.[15]​ "So you're gonna see me spin the tires on this, which is pretty cool!". One of the vehicles brought for the video shoot was a "massive truck" which was used to film big screen project "Universal Soldier". Speaking of the shoot he said "I've never done a video that has this many props in it. We've got the most amazing, wrecked cars."[3]​
