La Batalla de Wide Bay fue una batalla, paralela de la de Open Bay, durante la campaña de Nueva Bretaña de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Implicaba el desembarco de las tropas del ejército australiano en Wide Bay, sobre todo en las inmediaciones de Waitavolo, el 10 de marzo de 1945, con el objetivo de aislar a las fuerzas imperiales japonesas en la península de Gazelle. Se creó una cabeza de playa y se mantuvo un suministro constante, hasta que el 5 de julio desembarcó el 2/2nd Commando Squadron y se tomó por completo la isla. En ella participaron el 19º Batallón del ejército australiano y siete batallones más.[2]
