The Jingtai era was the Chinese era used by the Jingtai Emperor,[a] the seventh emperor of China's Ming dynasty, from 14 January 1450 (1st day of the 1st month of the 1st year of the Jingtai era) until his deposition on 11 February 1457 (17th day of the 1st month of the 8th year of the Jingtai era). On 11 February 1457, Emperor Yingzong took advantage of the Jingtai Emperor's serious illness and inability to attend court, launching the "Duomen Coup" (Template:Zhi; 'Storming of the Gates Incident') and reclaiming his imperial throne. On 15 February (21st day of the 1st month) of the same year, Emperor Yingzong changed the era to the Tianshun era.[2][3]
