羰基中由于电负性差异,其中的碳原子上带有部分正电荷,氧原子上则带有部分负电荷。因此,羰基碳易受亲核试剂侵蝕,一定条件下能够发生亲核加成反应。

中文中「羰」字為新造字,字形上由「氧」的下半部和「碳」的右半部組合而成,字音則是由「碳」的聲母和「氧」的韻母組合。
