Description

Use this template to link to Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB) articles. The simplest form links to Bayerische Staatsbibliothek's (BSB) high-quality images of the Fraktur of the original pages from ADB. It is also possible to link to plain text at German Wikisource.

Format

{{Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie|Volume|First page|Last page|Title|Author|Wikisource title}}

Parameters

  1. = ADB volume
  2. = first page of ADB article
  3. = last page of ADB article (use first page number if the article all falls on one page)
  4. = name of the subject of the biography; this serves as the link label
  5. = name of the author of the biography; for example, B. Max Mustermann
  6. = article name at Wikisource (always prefixed by "ADB:") [optional]

Examples

The simplest form links to page images at Bayerische StaatsBibliothek:

{{Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie|55|146|158|Sauppe, Hermann|Erich Ziebarth}}

produces:

Erich Ziebarth, Sauppe, Hermann, Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB) 55, Leipzig: Duncker & Humblot: 146–158, 1910

i.e. an itemized citation with a link to the Bayerische Staatsibliothek's (BSB) image of the ADB article. However, please note that all 26,000 of these articles are also available as text at German Wikisource, where there are also links to the BSB scans. Although the text for all is complete at German Wikisource, the state of preparation varies from article to article, some being of very high quality, and others being very raw OCR output. If the quality of the particular text you are interested in is suitable, you can use this template to link to it by using an extra parameter at the end:

{{Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie|55|146|158|Sauppe, Hermann|Erich Ziebarth|ADB:Sauppe, Hermann}}

produces:

Erich Ziebarth, Sauppe, Hermann, Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB) 55, Leipzig: Duncker & Humblot: 146–158, 1910

which will link to German Wikisource rather than BSB.
