辛格

辛格(英語:Singh,(IPA: /ˈsɪŋ/),是一個源自印度次大陸的頭銜或名字,為梵語中「獅子」的意思,也常常被印度的武士用為頭銜[1]。16世紀時期,辛格成為拉傑普特人中的常用姓名[2]。錫克教於1699年,按照戈賓德·辛格的意見採用了辛格這一名字,所有正式的錫克教男性教徒不考慮地域或文化的約束,都要使用辛格的名字,所有錫克教的女性教徒使用考爾的名字,意思是「公主」[3][4]。

In those days, "Singh" as a surname was very popular among a famous warrior caste of north India, the Rajputs. Some of the first Sikhs were also Rajputs.
