突尼斯国际航空1153号班机突尼斯国营航空突尼斯国际航空(Tuninter)一班由意大利巴里前往突尼斯迪赞巴‧马里他机场(Djerba-Melita Airport)的定期航班。2005年8月6日,一架ATR-72螺旋桨客机执行此航班时因燃料用尽紧急迫降于西西里岛对开海域,结果造成16人死亡。

事故原因

与失事班机同型号的ATR-72客机

The aircraft was carrying 39 passengers and crew, 14 of whom died. Officials at Bari airport reported that most of the passengers were young Italian tourists. The fuel indicator was reading incorrectly because it was designed to be fitted only in a smaller plane: the ATR42. Therefore, the crew did not detect that the aircraft was running low on fuel. The turboprop suffered fuel exhaustion and the ATR72 ditched off the Sicilian coast.

On September 7, 2005, the ANSV recommended that the European Aviation Safety Agency, should require an ATR-72 and ATR-42 fleet inspection in order to verify the installation of the applicable Fuel Quantity Indicator, and should consider the possibility to mandate a modification of the Fuel Quantity Indicator installation in order to prevent any incorrect fitting. On December 6, 2005, the ANSV issued a new safety recommendation, suggesting that EASA consider the possibility to change the fuel system certification regulation for public transport aircraft in order to require that the fuel low level warnings be independent from the fuel gauging systems
