English: Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific Theater Engineering, in partnership with NAVFAC Site Philippines and U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM), completed the Turtle Island Law Enforcement Center at Taganak, Turtle Island, Tawi-tawi, Philippines Oct. 23 for the Joint Interagency Task Force West (JIATF-West).
The $1.5 million project included a fuel tank shed, fuel pumping station, pier, two-story multi-purpose building, dining facility/classroom/community aid station, viewing tower, water tank, well, dual generators and security fencing. This facility provides a remote base of operations for the Philippines National Police Special Boat Unit and will help secure the Philippines' southern sea border near Malaysia. NAVFAC Site Philippines provided engineering support and NAVFAC Site Thailand provided contracting support for this project, while PACOM served as the executive agent for executing Department of Defense counterdrug activities.
