== Colors in Home media releases ==

[https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Dexter%27s_Laboratory&diff=857791975&oldid=857693868 At least] [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Dexter%27s_Laboratory&diff=861757065&oldid=860892608 twice] now, someone has tried to add a column of colors to the "Home media releases" section tables. Because no pattern or purpose for these colors has been stated, [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Dexter%27s_Laboratory&diff=867046237&oldid=867001276 I have removed this column on both tables]. If the user(s) who support this column's inclusion in the article wish to state their case on its inclusion, it should be done so here so as to avoid an edit war. == Where the "Changes" short film originated (Cal Arts or Columbia) ==

I just noticed that Allan Neuwirth's book, ''Makin' Toons: Inside the Most Popular Animated TV Shows and Movies'', claims "''It was during his second year at Columbia College that Tartakovsky made a two-and-a-half minute toon called 'Changes<nowiki>'</nowiki>'' ". This appears to be inaccurate, since both [https://people.com/archive/in-toon-with-tots-vol-47-no-8/ this article] from ''[[People (magazine)|People]]'' and [https://web.archive.org/web/20090619095331/http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/ap/gtartakovsky.html this] CartoonNetwork.com profile on Tartakovsky claim that the film was created while Tartakovsky was at Cal Arts. Furthermore, Mike Manley's book, ''Best of Draw! Volume 1'' includes the following exchange at the very top of pg. 136:

:GT: Two years.

:''Draw!'': That's where you came up with ''Dexter''?

:GT: Yeah, for my second year student film, I did a two-and-a-half minute version of ''Dexter''...

Unfortunately, pg. 135 of the book isn't included in my free Google Books preview, and because Tartakovsky spent two years at each university, it's impossible to infer, based on that exchange alone, at which university Tartakovsky created the short film. But I can see a tiny snippet of pg. 135, when I type "Cal Arts" into the search bar, and the last bit of visible text is:

:''Draw!'': Okay. So now you were at Cal Arts for two years or four...

It seems pretty safe to assume that page 136 is picking up where the excerpt from page 135 ends. So, especially when taken in concert with the ''People'' article and the Cartoon Network bio, I think we can reasonably deduce that Tartakovsky created the short film during his second year at Cal Arts. The Neuwirth book still seems like a good source though; mistakes happen even in professionally written books and one error shouldn't discredit Neuwirth. --[[User:Jpcase|Jpcase]] ([[User talk:Jpcase|talk]]) 17:24, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
:Actually, on further inspection, I'm realizing that Neuwirth's book, in a different chapter, states: "While attending CalArts, he created the very first ''Dexter's Lab'' pencil test". So yeah, most likely, Neuwirth just made a mistake when he said that "Changes" was made at Columbia. --[[User:Jpcase|Jpcase]] ([[User talk:Jpcase|talk]]) 17:43, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
::Also, [https://www.nwitimes.com/lifestyles/meet-dexter-s-dad/article_962576aa-a2ab-5e76-9a16-444b5c4813d0.html this] interview with Tartakovsky, from the ''Times of Northwest Indiana'', provides even more confirmation in the following exchange that the short film was created at Cal Arts:

:::9. Is it true Dexter was born from a homework assignment at Cal Arts?

:::A. Yeah. I was animating a girl dancing and she basically looked like Dee Dee. I thought, "I really like her. What's she going to do? Maybe she has a little brother. She's all about art and fun and dance. He'll be short and blocky and he's about science. Then he'll have a secret lab and she's always sneaking in it to bother him." Dee Dee came first. She was really the star of the show to me. She was so much fun. Later on, I started on Dexter and he took over.

== Reddit as a source ==

I just added [https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/10l1an/i_am_genndy_tartakovsky_the_director_of_hotel/c6gkoyt/?context=3&st=jp2swgm0&sh=d56403ec this] link to a Reddit AMA conducted by Tartakovsky as a source. It should be acceptable, per [[WP:SOCIALMEDIA]], which states that under certain conditions, "Self-published and questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, usually in articles about themselves or their activities". The text goes on to state that this policy applies to Reddit. --[[User:Jpcase|Jpcase]] ([[User talk:Jpcase|talk]]) 16:00, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
