* Oh no! I only just discovered this, as I noticed his signature on the talk page for Orpheus and wondered why I hadn't come across his comments lately, worrying that he had quit Wikipedia. My sympathies to all those who were personally close to him. As a beacon and consistent, reliable source of sanity and competence when POV warriors turn up, he will be sorely missed; to me, his sig was a trademark, and always reassuring. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 18:51, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

* I've just heard this sad news. We got up each other's noses a little about the true identity of William Shakespeare, but that's all part of the rough and tumble of intellectual discourse. It was never personal from either of us. I thought this might be useful for those interested in the Pre-Raphaelites, a topic about which Paul Barlow wrote a lot & for which he was often cited. I believe that he also wrote of other artists who were contemporaries of that school as well.

Obituary: Dr Paul Barlow

The Million Award
This is unfortunately posthumously conferred. Paul's contribution in bringing the William Shakespeare (estimated annual readership: 4,550,000) to Featured Article status was indispensable, and therefore I think it due, in order to express our deep appreciation for his seminal input in what has become a widely read article of the highest quality, that we register here his earned right to the Million Award, as a token of the influence his labour in the wiki fields will exercise on a global readership. Paul Barlow on Google Scholar

I thought this might be useful for those interested in the Pre-Raphaelites, a topic about which Paul Barlow wrote a lot & for which he was often cited. I believe that he also wrote of other artists who were contemporaries of that school as well.
