== Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mount-Rushmore-High-On.jpg ==
==Surface Brightness Fluctuation==

Thanks for uploading '''[[:Image:Mount-Rushmore-High-On.jpg]]'''. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at [[Wikipedia:Non-free content]] carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at [[Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline]] is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
Why switch to Harvard style references? I'm not used to using those and am curious as to what motivated the change? Thanks. [[User:WilliamKF|WilliamKF]] 05:17, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for asking. I have looked into the issue carefully, and it is the only system on Wikipedia that meets all of these objectives:
* Briefest citation in-line with the text.
** Keeps the text clear and readable in the editing phase.
** No confusion about duplicate references. The <nowiki><ref></nowiki> system requires naming references and an editor may not notice a prior or later occurence of the same reference.
* Identifies the author and year inline.
** Familiar to researchers.
** Indicates currency or precedence of references.
** With the author's name inline, those familiar with the field will immediately recognize valid references.
* Works well as a reference section
** Allows the reference section to be alphabetized by author primarily and by year secondarily.
** The detailed information about the reference is in the reference section, not the text.
* Independent of the more common WP reference system, <nowiki><ref></nowiki>, which is modeled after footnotes and better suited to that purpose. The two systems can coexist beautifully.
I recommend it highly for all articles with a scientific or academic orientation. Explanations: [[Wikipedia:Harvard referencing]], [[Template:Harvard reference]]. [[User:Hu|Hu]] 06:52, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

I've edited the article. Thanks for introducing the Harvard reference system into that article. I used the standard reference system as footnotes to keep the infobox compact. Looks like you got the ''et al'' working. For SIMBAD, I fudged it by calling SIMBAD the author. [[User:Hu|Hu]] 02:37, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Can you think of why this article is notable? I'd help if I knew what to write. You made an edit to the article over a year ago. If you need time to work on it, give me a hint to what you want to do and I can withdraw the AFD.[[User:Mrs.EasterBunny|Mrs.EasterBunny]] ([[User talk:Mrs.EasterBunny|talk]]) 23:30, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

: Could you look again? I've added notes a, b and wonder if that should be changed. Also, why the change to external links to use &amp; instead of bullets? And, I thought style guide says no space before the footnote. Also, if you are willing to take a look at [[Protoplanetary nebula]] which I added Harvard too, that would be nice. Thanks again. Your tone suggests you believe I was acting in a disruptive fashion. I was not. I considered the article to fall under the 'hoax' category, which is not deletable under speedy criteria. We disagree on that - and I would have chimed in with a delete under the now closed AfD. Regards --User:Ceyockey (<small>''[[User talk:Ceyockey|talk to me]]''</small>) 02:34, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

==Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Pretty-in-pink-cd.jpg==
== AfD ==
Thank you for uploading '''[[:Image:Pretty-in-pink-cd.jpg]]'''. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by [[Wikipedia:Non-free content]]. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from [[Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline]] is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an [[Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free|image copyright tag]]; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our [[Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Images/media|criteria for speedy deletion]]. If you have any questions, please ask them at the [[Wikipedia:Media copyright questions|media copyright questions page]]. == notability - "Paco Nathan" page ==

I am sending you this as I am not sure how the "'''''This article needs additional citations for verification'''''" tag can be removed.
Hi Hu,

Since the tag was added more reference material has been listed to suffice the removal of the tag. I would appreciate your help in having it removed.
You flagged the page [[Paco Nathan]] regarding notability.

As I am not sure how to set about having this done, I am addressing this to you as you were one of those who edited the article sometime in 2007.
I am the author. I was completing an entry to satisfy dangling links from existing pages in Wikipedia, including [[Boing Boing]], [[Robby Garner]], [[FringeWare Review]], and [[Jon Lebkowsky]] - which had been on Wikipedia for a relatively long time without a destination page.

Given the fact that some of the events are several decades old the reference material listed is as much as is available with even the subject of the article being deceased. I have seen many articles with less reference material not having this tag attached to it.
There are verifiable archives for FringeWare, such as on the Internet Archive, plus other works are archived in the published content of Wired, Whole Earth, O'Reilly, etc., as well as in the open source projects cited.

Your help in getting this done is appreciated.
What other notability requirements need to be provided?
Thanks. [[User:Ceteri|Ceteri]] 21:57, 26 December 2006

==Orphaned non-free media (Image:Gabor-magyarposta.jpg)==
[[Image:Ambox warning blue.svg|25px]] Thanks for uploading '''[[:Image:Gabor-magyarposta.jpg]]'''. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a [[WP:FU|claim of fair use]]. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. [[WP:BOLD|You may add it back]] if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see [[Wikipedia:Non-free content#Policy|our policy for non-free media]]).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. It is interesting that you have the opinion a game server needs to have a web site to be notable. Indeed, as you argued on the articles talk page "web sites [are] exceptionally cheap and easy to maintain". Does this make them more credible? It is even more intriguing that you first deleted the citation, then argued against the articles credibility. Surely a person who practises Zen and "programming" would know about a language called PHP and a Microsoft scripting technology called ASP, both of which make it impossible to link directly to the Game Monitor Partyserver pages. Perhaps you need to consider getting your facts straight before you choose to condemn an article to your personal opinion. <small>—The preceding [[Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages|unsigned]] comment was added by [[User:210.79.22.130|210.79.22.130]] ([[User talk:210.79.22.130|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/210.79.22.130|contribs]]) 06:32, 30 December 2006 (UTC{{{3|}}})</small>

# [[Bill Brooks (politician)]] - <small>{{findsources|Bill Brooks (politician)}}</small>
A web site does not make a server notable, but it is absurd to argue that a notable server would not have one. Even if one is not directly linked to the server, a server still benefits from a separate web site. This is proven by the efforts of partisans such as 210.79.22.130 to use Wikipedia as a substitute website, which is ina ppropriate. I am not surprised that Microsoft ASP scripting technology makes it difficult to link to the game server, though I doubt it is impossible. I'm on a server that uses real technology and has no difficulty at all linking both ways between the game server and the web site. I do have my facts straight, and the most important fact is that the web page when I last looked at it had not properly asserted or proven the notability of the game server. Finally, I suggest you read Wikipedia policy. [[User:Hu|Hu]] 08:20, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

The article [[Clifford Geary]] has been [[Wikipedia:Proposed deletion|proposed for deletion]]&#32; because of the following concern:
The "[[:Friday (novel)|Friday]]" novel page currently says that the novel is "loosely related" to the story [[:Gulf (Heinlein)|Gulf]]. I think that understates things considerably: Friday is in fact (in part) a careful point-by-point repudiation of everything proposed in Gulf:

This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links: <br><span class="plainlinks">[http://www.google.com/search?&as_eq=wikipedia&as_epq=Clifford+Geary Clifford Geary]</span> – <span class="plainlinks">[http://news.google.com/archivesearch?&as_src=-newswire+-wire+-presswire+-PR+-press+-release&as_epq=Clifford+Geary news], [http://books.google.com/books?&as_brr=0&as_pub=-icon&as_epq=Clifford+Geary books], [http://scholar.google.com/scholar?as_epq=Clifford+Geary scholar]</span><br> Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient [[WP:N|notability]].</b>
* Joe Green in Gulf is taught ultra-rational thinking. Friday is taught totally intuitive thinking.
* Joe Green gives his life altruistically to save Earth civilization; Friday leaves Earth to its fate to settle down and mind her own selfish business.
* In Gulf, Kettlebelly states that evil organizations collapse when the head man is taken out, but that his organization would carry on without a hiccup without him. In Friday, Kettlebelly's complete organization shuts down totally within 24 hours of his death -- but evil keeps on trucking just fine.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be [[WP:DEL#REASON|deleted for any of several reasons]].
And so forth and so forth: The more carefully you read the two in conjunction, the more clear it becomes that Heinlein was very deliberately repudiating in Friday -everything- that he proposed in Gulf. Ending, of course, with Kettlebelly insisting that Friday go anywhere -but- to join the "supermen". <small>—The preceding [[Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages|unsigned]] comment was added by [[Special:Contributions/24.227.166.46|24.227.166.46]] ([[User talk:24.227.166.46|talk]]) 09:11, 31 December 2006 (UTC).</small><!-- HagermanBot Auto-Unsigned -->

==Copyright problems with [[:File:Garyheadhighest.jpg]]==
Hello Hu. I liked your posting at [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Astronomical_objects#Citation_systems] about Harvard referencing. Can you offer a good example of an article using Harvard references, where everything (in your opinion) is done correctly? I am currently trying to heavily revise an article and have chosen to use Harvard, but don't know of any good existing articles to look at in case of questions. I know that there are official templates for Harvard but am unsure of their value, so haven't used any yet. Thanks. [[User:EdJohnston|EdJohnston]] 06:21, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Relax. You are using an anonymous IP address, probably dynamically assigned by your ISP. You can avoid this problem simply by registering a Wikipedia ID which you can keep permanently logged in. Or you can just realize that occasionally shared IP addresses will be abused by other people, so if you receive a message that doesn't apply to you, you can ignore it. As a long-time Wikipedia editor, I am sure of my facts, whereas you are not, which is excusable because you are a new user. ==[[Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion|Speedy deletion]] nomination of [[:YoungBlood Services]]==
== Non-standard capitalization of names ==
[[Image:Ambox warning_pn.svg|48px|left]] A tag has been placed on [[:YoungBlood Services]] requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under [[WP:CSD#A7|section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion]], because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the [[WP:CSD#Articles|criteria for speedy deletion]], such articles may be deleted at any time. Please [[Wikipedia:Notability|see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable]], as well as our subject-specific [[Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)|notability guideline for organizations and companies]]. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the [[Wikipedia:Article wizard2.0|Article Wizard]].

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding <code>{{tl|hangon}}</code> to '''the top of [[:YoungBlood Services|the page that has been nominated for deletion]]''' (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on '''[[Talk:YoungBlood Services|the talk page]]''' explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for ''speedy'' deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact [[:Category:Wikipedia administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles|one of these admins]] to request that they [[Wikipedia:Userfication#Userfication_of_deleted_content|userfy]] the page or have a copy emailed to you. <!-- Template:Db-inc-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> [[User:Ironholds|Ironholds]] ([[User talk:Ironholds|talk]]) 11:08, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

I am currently am posting this silliness to a number of military blogs and assorted sites, far be it for you to simply look at some of those references, so maybe others more skilled can make the point better.
You are narrow minded, and seemingly spiteful, I did notice you tracking down every entry I ever made to undo them, regardless if they were correct or not. Funny how you have no idea about some facts, but because I made the addition you change them back.
I really am bothered by your revisionist views, your way or no way? The word "demise" is non-neutral Point of View in this context which is against Wikipedia policy and further, in this context "demise" is simply not true. You don't know my point of view. You might be surprised. I might agree with the opinion behind your nonNPoV remarks; I might not. I haven't stated an opinion. However, it must be acknowledged that "demise" is a loaded word. The article states that the unification was "drastic and controversial" and both of those statements are undeniable facts and it is an excellent neutral summary of the unification. Further it points to the unification article itself where the facts and issues are discussed in more depth.
== LÉ Orla (P41) ==

Your additions to the External Links are not references for the unification of the military forces, nor is that the way to apply references. == [[Wikipedia:Proposed deletion|Proposed deletion]] of [[:File:China-Hukka.png]] ==
[[File:Ambox warning yellow.svg|left|link=|alt=Notice|48px|]]

The file [[:File:China-Hukka.png]] has been [[Wikipedia:Proposed deletion|proposed for deletion]]&#32;because of the following concern:
* "If it is '''doubtful''' and '''harmful''', you should remove it from the article; [...] Do not be inappropriately cautious about removing unsourced material; it is better for Wikipedia to say nothing on an issue than to present false or misleading material."
<blockquote>unused, low-res, no obvious use</blockquote>

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be [[WP:DEL#REASON|deleted for any of several reasons]].
By putting the speedy-delete tag on the article, I was asking for the material to be quickly removed in the most complete and sincere way. Next time I will be inclined to follow the policy more carefully and delete the text before placing a speedy-delete tag.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your [[Help:edit summary|edit summary]] or on [[File talk:China-Hukka.png|the file's talk page]].
[[User:Hu|Hu]] 09:50, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the [[Wikipedia:Proposed deletion|proposed deletion process]], but other [[Wikipedia:deletion process|deletion process]]es exist. In particular, the [[Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion|speedy deletion]] process can result in deletion without discussion, and [[Wikipedia:Files for discussion|files for discussion]] allows discussion to reach [[Wikipedia:Consensus|consensus]] for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify -->
:The problem with communicating via edit summaries is that it's easy to miscommunicate because the summaries are so short.

<span style="color:red;font-weight:bold;">This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the [[Help:Page history|page history]] of each individual file for details.</span> Thanks, [[User:FastilyBot|FastilyBot]] ([[User talk:FastilyBot|talk]]) 01:02, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
:There's nothing wrong with you having put the "speedy-delete" tag on the [[Chris dejoseph]] article. You sincerely thought it was an attack article and thought it should be speedied. I have deleted a number of attack articles that have been tagged in this way. The job of an admin is to be a "reality check" to make sure articles don't get speedied inappropriately. In many instances, the decision is easy. In some cases, it's not so obvious. That's what the [[WP:AFD]] process is for. That process gets more people involved in reviewing the article and making the decision.

:My concern was that I got a different impression from reading the article than you did. You saw an attack article, I saw an article that might actually be true and not an attack. As it turns out, Googling for "Chris dejoseph WWE male stripper" brings up a bunch of hits. Now, admittedly, all of these are blogs and there is no link to an official WWE site confirming what these many websites are saying. However, it seems likely that the following are true
:#Chris Dejoseph is a creative writer for the WWE
:#Chris Dejoseph played the part of a male stripper in a WWE event
:#The storyline was kind of wacky

:Is the entire text of the article true? I don't know. Some parts of it sound wacky (e.g. sticking his head up his butt). I would delete anything that can't be sourced. As you point out, Wikipedia policy is to remove text that is negative. That is not the same thing as deleting the article.

:Now, there might be other reasons to delete the article (e.g. Chris Dejoseph might not be notable) but the article itself does not seem to me to be an attack article.

:Since much of the article is true or at least appears to be true and not necessarily an attack, I would leave the article in place and just delete the questionable text.

:Obviously, you and I have different opinions about whether or not the article is an "attack" article. That's normal. If you continue to disagree, you can take this to [[WP:AFD]] and see what other people think.

:P.S. I'm a new admin so I don't want to insist that I am 100% right in what I wrote above. This is my understanding of Wikipedia policy. If you disagree, it's possible that you may be right. I'll ask on the [[WP:ANI|administrator's noticeboard]] for other admins to look at this and provide their opinion.

:--[[User:Richardshusr|Richard]] 05:36, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't have a problem with you removing the speedy delete tag after you googled. I just think that your approach of "Assuming the content is true", and thus not googling (the first time around), is the wrong approach, especially with biographies of living people, per [[:Wikipedia:Citing sources]], which you have avoided addressing. [[User:Hu|Hu]] 05:43, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

:Well, OK. Maybe I should have been less lazy and Googled first. You could have Googled as well.

:When I first read the article, it sounded like it could be true and it didn't sound like an attack to me so I didn't feel that the text absolutely had to be deleted immediately.

:In the end, I did Google twice and, so far, it looks like most of the article is actually true. The real difference between your perspective and mine is that it didn't read like an obvious attack to me. To me, it sounded like more of the wacky kind of script that you see in professional wrestling. I concede that it could be considered negative to assert that someone is a "male stripper" but professional wrestling does have weird story lines and to say that someone played the wacky part of being a male stripper is not the same as saying that he actually is a male stripper.

:--[[User:Richardshusr|Richard]] 05:49, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

For what it's worth, after writing the above, I decided that the more appropriate reason for deleting the article was failure to assert notability so I speedied it on those grounds. --[[User:Richardshusr|Richard]] 05:52, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

You tagged [[Shahbal]] with the following, slightly invalid tag: <nowiki>{{nn|Notability not asserted. Delete}}</nowiki>. Did you mean to question its notability? Then the tag should have been <nowiki>{{notability|companies}}</nowiki>. Or did you mean to list it for speedy deletion, because its notability is not asserted? Then the correct tag is <nowiki>{{db-corp}}</nowiki>. I curently did not change the article, not knowing what you intended. --[[User:B. Wolterding|B. Wolterding]] 12:15, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. The object is not a company or a corporation. I did the best I could because there is no Speedy Deletion category for articles that do not adequately assert notability of their subject when the subject is an object. The thing will probably have to move through the ProD or AfD process. [[User:Hu|Hu]] 12:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

* The corresponding notability guideline (to which these tags refer), [[WP:CORP]], deals with companies, organizations, products, and services. That's why products like this one go under "companies" for purposes of notability. But sending the article to PROD or AfD is not wrong, in any case. --[[User:B. Wolterding|B. Because a rewrite was permitted after DRV, this should probably go back to Afd. Thanks. Took a bit to figure out what DRV means ([[Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2007 July 9]]. On that basis, I've withdrawn the Speedy Delete tag from [[:Timway]]. I will put it through AfD a couple of days from now unless somebody puts it in earlier. [[User:Hu|Hu]] 01:53, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

You can warn the user on their Talk page with one of the vandalism warning tags such as <nowiki>{{subst:test2}}</nowiki> or <nowiki>{{subst:Blatantvandal}}</nowiki>. If they ignore strong warnings like ''Blatantvandal'' and ''test4'', '''and''' the vandalism is ongoing, you can then report them on [[:Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism]] ([[WP:AIV]]). In this case, the vandal is not active, so I think it is best to let it rest for the time being. Chances are the vandal has lost interest in Wikipedia. [[User:Hu|Hu]] 00:14, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Hu ... not sure what category [[:Dialling]] would go in. Went search of a list and got lost in the various articles on "the do's and don'ts of categorization". One can put it into a high level category like [[:Category:Mathematics]] and leave it to somebody else who patrols the high level category to refine the categorization. Listcruft? If the issue was indiscriminate listings, why did you not just ask for references? We could have cleared this up before this whole thing started. I happened to create the lists ''and'' categories you are mentioning. The lists appear ''with'' the categories to give users further coverage of musicians in that genre, especially those who do not yet have articles here on Wikipedia. Thanks for your assistance on [[Police]] with this; don't know how you caught it. However, as a Brit, I guarantee that if you go up to anyone in the street and ask them what it is, most won't know. If, OTOH, you ask them to name countries in the "British Commonwealth", most would have a go at Austalia & New Zealand, Canada & a handful of African countries. Perhaps, but I'm not sure that running an unmonitored bot, or running an unmonitorable bot (hundreds of edits a minute) is "good faith". [[User:Hu|Hu]] 22:17, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

:I don't run the bot, but I do run other bots, and I don't see any way to handle the enormous size of the image namespace without making very rapid edits. The purpose of bots, according to the banner, is to do "repetitive edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually." While I would support the theoretical formation of a larger programmer group to run the bot, in the meantime I believe Betacommand is performing a service to the community, as a volunteer. &mdash;&nbsp;Carl <small>([[User:CBM|CBM]]&nbsp;·&nbsp;[[User talk:CBM|talk]])</small> 22:20, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

One obvious way to monitor it, is to run a couple of edits first, check them, and then let it loose. Another way is to require the operator to press "ok" on each edit after giving him or her a status screen of the relevant info and some links to click. The operator can still accomplish many edits per minute this way, and perhaps follow the links for a more thorough check every couple of minutes. A third way is for the bot to make a list of proposed edits and then operator can do a quality control sample of them every hour or so and then OK a batch. In the event, having the bot make 750 edits before some alert users complained and got the bot operators attention, is not a good state of affairs. It could have been much worse if the user had started the bot and then gone to take a shower and shave. Wikipedia was lucky it didn't happen. [[User:Hu|Hu]] 22:27, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

:If the code has been running successfully for some time, and isn't changed, at some point one trusts that errors would likely have been discovered. For example, there are bots that deliver the signpost every week; presumably those bot operators don't need to continue testing their code each time. &mdash;&nbsp;Carl <small>([[User:CBM|CBM]]&nbsp;·&nbsp;[[User talk:CBM|talk]])</small> 22:33, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Presumably they would. They don't need to do a full bottom-up unit test every time, but I would hope that they at least look at a few pages every week, some the same and some randomly sampled. Quality control is an ongoing process. In a large system like this there are many inter-dependencies of code and things can change. That is what Betacommand is claiming. I suppose the finger pointing will get sorted out, but operator monitoring is important. At the very least, check at the beginning of each session before more than a few edits have been made. Nip things like this in the bud before hundreds of users are inconvenienced and before several editors have to spend time cleaning up, and before the [http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents&diff=prev&oldid=174907238 operator becomes incivil]. Since the tag was added more reference material has been listed to suffice the removal of the tag. I would appreciate your help in having it removed.

Given the fact that some of the events are several decades old the reference material listed is as much as is available with even the subject of the article being deceased. I have seen many articles with less reference material not having this tag attached to it.

Thanks for uploading Image:Gabor-magyarposta.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. What template? I didn't use a template. Are you a regular? If so, then it is high time to preview, group, and summarize edits. Hu (talk) 05:19, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's high time you get off your high horse and read the link provided. It means don't patronise regular editors with platitudes. You used a set of mechanical cliches, which is the equivalent of a template. If you want to read the total changes of a group of edits it is very easy to do so. I often have difficuly copy-editing in edit space, so often only notice spelling errors and the like when posted. Because of the computer I use it is easy to lose edits is not posted quickly. I do not appreciate my talk page being stuffed with patronising comments. Paul B (talk) 08:10, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, since your little homily is presented apropos of nothing, it's not even any use. Paul B (talk) 08:13, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is not a platitude to ask an editor, regular or otherwise, to use the tools provided so that editors can quickly determine which edits are likely to problematic, or which edits in a problematic set of edits are likely to be the cause. You have no need to get angry. If you have a computer problem, just explain without getting upset. Hu (talk) 17:12, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Hu! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Bill Brooks (politician) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 18:54, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Clifford Geary has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:
Clifford Gearynews, books, scholar
Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PhilKnight (talk) 13:23, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on YoungBlood Services requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Paul Hellyer

[edit]

I've placed semi-protection on the article (no IPs and no newly registered users, though established users can still edit) and I've left a note on the IP's talk page advising him that it's not an appropriate claim to make without a reliable source. Hopefully that should cover things for now. Bearcat (talk) 20:43, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Hu (talk) 14:27, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So where are the references for your 'version' of Hellyers history? Looking forward to seeing your references. I have also obtained numerous other references regarding his subject. And please avoid using his book 'damn the torpedoes', it didn't do much for his arguments. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.18.154.182 (talk) 06:32, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is Wikipedia policy that you don't need to have references to remove unsourced non-neutral Point of View edits such as your edits that I removed. Wikipedia is not the place to push your 45 year old personal agenda about the unification of the Canadian Forces. Your edit warring (repeated reversions in the face of policy) won't work. Get with the program, such as actually signing talk page posts, as has already been clearly explained to you. Start here: WP:FIVEPILLARS Hu (talk) 11:44, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, so I understand I have not been following the proper procedures for making additions to wiki, my bad. I am reviewing what I have been sent to ensure I comply with them.

As far as an agenda, what he did, he did! Sorry but that's history! Have you ever even looked at any of those references, because my good man I have tons more! Both official CF publications and historical authors make the point much better then me. So really, you just don't like what I pointed out, so you will do anything to keep your point of view on top. Yes, that sets a really good example, especially chasing down all my additions, wow, really neutral there! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.18.154.182 (talk) 12:33, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your additions to the External Links are not references for the unification of the military forces, nor is that the way to apply references. At the very least start by summarizing your edits in the Edit Summary box. Read Wikipedia:Citing sources to understand how to put references in the articles. In the meantime read Wikipedia:Signatures. Four tildes ~~~~ is not very difficult and you have been asked quite nicely by another Wikipedia editor too. You even replied to the request affirmatively but continue to flout it. Hu (talk) 15:40, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism Charges

[edit]

Hu, You obviously want to make something out of my pointing out the errors of your article on Hellyer. Stop calling all my changes vandalism, especially since you look foolish changing the appropriate ensigns for former ships on the RCN. Maybe if you had some knowledge on the subject you would realize the White Ensign was used by all the Commonwealth navies including the RCN until after unification in 1968. The White Ensign was used for sometime after that. As far as one can see, your constant revisionist agenda is the only vandalism happening here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.18.154.182 (talk) 06:51, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Pretty-in-pink-cd.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Pretty-in-pink-cd.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:33, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I noted your comment in this page and I wondered: what is meant by "wired-in". Can you tell me?  Jodosma  (talk) 20:26, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since that comment is nearly nine years old I must apologize that I don't know the context or the answer. Hu (talk) 16:54, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Preview, Group, Summarize

[edit]

Hi Hu- Stumbled across your "Preview, Group, Summarize" message and wondering if you ever made a template out of it. I've been leaving a similar message on talkpages for years, but yours is more concise, and I think it would be a useful tool for many editors. Eric talk 13:05, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again Hu- Just checking in again. Eric talk 16:40, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Never have made a template. I just kept it as a copy-paste text string. Hu (talk) 17:49, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. If I get ambitious and make one, I'll let you know. It's a well-done message. Eric talk 18:44, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
