== Octix Article ==
{{Horizontal TOC}}
Whoops, I just realized that I must have deleted the dated prod by accident upon editing the Octix article. I'm new to wikipedia and that's my excuse. A friend has moved Octix to something called an "incubator." I hope I'll get a chance to edit my article before it gets deleted. Nevertheless, I appreciate your dedication towards making Wikipedia a more civilized environment. I hope any possible misunderstandings have been cleared. Hi, just poking in because I noticed some of your reverts, like [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Self-hating_Jew&diff=next&oldid=1246600824], don't have corresponding warnings on talk pages (something something <nowiki>{{uw-warn}}</nowiki>). :::: [[WP:WARNVAND]] does state that {{tq|users should be warned for each and every instance of vandalism}} and I've been told by administrators (Swarm) that leaving the templated warnings are a quote "basic expectation" and that it's never ok to not leave a warning. Is this not true? I recall a case where after a revert by Discospinster, an IP re-added their edits as they hadn't any idea of their mistake, causing more work for another editor to again revert the edits, where then I had to revert the revert as the original edit by the IP turned out to be correct in the first place. All of these unnecessary steps could have been avoided by a simple note after the first revert. -- <u><b>[[User:Cosmic6811|<span style="color:#16063d;">Cosmic6811</span>]]</b></u> 🍁 ([[User talk:Cosmic6811|<span style="color:#0B4C5F;">T</span>]] · [[Special:Contributions/Cosmic6811|<span style="color:#0B4C5F;">C</span>]]) 05:24, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

You, along with several other admins deleted a page for "Joe Castillo" several years ago. He has now performed in over 15 countries, including this past year for the King of Saudi Arabia, President of Colombia and the Minister of Hajj. He is already in wiki under sand animation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_animation. I have rewritten a page for him for consideration

Can you consider taking the ban off on his name?

I've honestly never seen a three hour block before. Interesting decision. :I wasn't sure if it was one of those temporary IP addresses that could be assigned to someone else in a short time. Anyway, I figure the vandal will have moved on to something else in three hours. ==We Waited For Days==
|''All attendees at Wikimedia NYC events are subject to the [[meta:Wikimedia New York City/Code of Conduct|Wikimedia NYC Code of Conduct]].''
Dude, you deleted my article. Now how is anybody supposed to find out about that band? People turn to wikipedia for reliable and unbiased information on the topic of, or associated with mainly garage bands. Now, everyone who wants to learn of the plight of a struggling garage band in Virginia will be left without the knowledge of this particular band, which I daresay may be the most important one of them all! I demand and sincere and written response making light of this subject and why you saw fit to delete said article immediately. This is an outrage to angsty teenagers worldwide! I am left in utter shock and awe of your decision making abilities. Not only do I disagree to the fullest extent, but your deletion leaves me in a state of uncertainty. If I cannot trust that a fellow wikipedian, fluent in more than one language, can see the relevancy of an up-and-coming supergroup band formed by several teenagers from irrevelant small cities in rural areas on the mid-eastern United States seaboard, then I may as well give up living. This troubles me deeply. This decision you have made leaves me in great doubt of our future generations, and with that, the ones afterwards as well. Our society is leaning further and further from notable garage bands every day but never did I suspect to see such an outrage occur right in front of my eyes in such a short period of time! As I stepped away from my computer screen for only so long as to partake in a family dinner, I return only to see a vast area of nothingness, as my computer screen reflects my heart's feelings on the subject of this deletion. I am left cold and empty now, without this article to serve as a lighthouse for others, leading the way and clearing a safe path for future wikipedia editors to follow.

== A. Quraishi - Sources ==
"This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards." of course

Had a question on two sources I found updating the notability of this article on [[Ammad Quraishi]]. One source seems to be a blog/newsletter entry by the subject from about two years ago referring to his identity and the precise notability claim. Not sure if it can be referenced. The other source is from a national organization that verifies the claim in an archived link (on archive.org) that has redirect issues. The primary link works, but the entry where it is sublinked is either a dead link or just not loading. Should I add these links and then refer to them on the talk page or in the AfD thread? Or do you recommend an alternative? Seeking guidance, [[User:BernieBruh|BernieBruh]] ([[User talk:BernieBruh|talk]]) 04:43, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to know why my article has been deleted and added to the "speed deletion list" or something like that.

== A barnstar for you! ==
Apparently it said the reason was "G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion", when in reality it was just an article talking about a company that offers jobs to people around the world. No promotion was done whatsoever, all the information was factual and can be found at the company's site. The name of the article was "Expertsonlive". Please explain to me what can I do in order to solve this, I believe wikipedia should have an article which talks about a worldwide company founded by a group of colaborators located in my country which gives professionals from anywhere the possibility of a new source of income.

I have been the biggest collector aobut him and own about 7000 items. I have the largest magazines, clippings, articles etc collection in the world. I lived a few days where he recorded this album. If you need more info, contact me please.

Can you tell me your source saying Ommadawn was released in November 1975?
This article is '''not''' a duplicate of [[Multi Lane Free Flow]] -- it '''replaces''' Multi-Lane Free Flow. It '''replaces''' the original because there has to be a dash ("-") in between "Multi" and "Lane". I thought I redirected the [[Multi Lane Free Flow]] page to [[Multi-Lane Free Flow]] but somehow it didn't get saved -- I remember saving it and testing it too hmm... --[[User:Pavithran|Pavithran]] ([[User talk:Pavithran|talk]]) 05:04, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

I called the Vancouver Sun, they said that it was a valid article, but it had expired. Check out http://blog.bluehyppo.com/?tag=max-jones It's an AFP report. That is one of the article added to the references this morning. Also see http://www.voanews.com/english/news/a-13-2009-09-24-voa19-68709507.html. I am taking off Max Jones and Lillian Wu from your list, as they have valid references. Will search for more references on this topic. How can we resolve this issue? Hello. I have just started using Huggle two days ago. I see you have recently altered my Miroslav Klose page update and reveted it to it's original form.

I had to make the History section a sub-heading for the Background heading in the ''[[Walt Disney Classics]]'' page, but why did you change it back? Regarding the recent revert you made&#32;to [[:Daniel Dubois]]: you may already know about them, but you might find [[Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace]] useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the [[Wikipedia:sandbox|sandbox]]. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a [[Wikipedia:Vandalism|vandal]] when they've been previously warned. I did notice that their account is 20 years old and they must be quite active, judging by the talk page, but I didn't think it would preclude the use of a template. Warning templates

[edit]

Hi, just poking in because I noticed some of your reverts, like [1], don't have corresponding warnings on talk pages (something something {{uw-warn}}). FifthFive (talk) 23:20, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another example [2]. I've gone ahead and added it myself.. FifthFive (talk) 18:08, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And again [3]. Can you please give out warning templates more consistently? Thanks, FifthFive (talk) 01:29, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And again :/ [4] FifthFive (talk) 22:36, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) You will find that many old timers do not use these warning templates on IPS for clear vandalism or on those that have been blocked.Moxy🍁 22:49, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for letting me know. FifthFive (talk) 22:55, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:WARNVAND does state that users should be warned for each and every instance of vandalism and I've been told by administrators (Swarm) that leaving the templated warnings are a quote "basic expectation" and that it's never ok to not leave a warning. -- Cosmic6811 🍁 (T · C) 05:24, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it says users should be warned, not that they must be warned. Also that bit was added after I became an admin. ... discospinster talk 14:57, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If I remember correctly, I've brought the same thing up twice now on this talk page and have never received a response -- Cosmic6811 🍁 (T · C) 05:26, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • @FifthFive:.... At Preferences → Gadgets → there is an option to strike out usernames that have been blocked this will allow you to see who's been blocked so you don't have to waste your time with warnings or to simply see what's going on. As a wonderful vandalism fighter you may find a useful visual indicator.Moxy🍁 01:57, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A. Quraishi - Sources

[edit]

Had a question on two sources I found updating the notability of this article on Ammad Quraishi. Seeking guidance, BernieBruh (talk) 04:43, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You could add it to the AfD thread, and other editors will check it or try to find a working link. ... discospinster talk 18:31, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He was born in the Podolia Governorate of the Russian Empire to ethnic Ukrainian parents. So please stop changing his ethnicity to Russian and flagging people for vandalism for correcting your mistake. 213.226.141.118 (talk) 15:53, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The first sentence of an article does not indicate the subject's ethnicity, it is for nationality (i.e. the country that they are from): "The opening paragraph should usually provide context for that which made the person notable. In most modern-day cases, this will be the country, region, or territory where the person is currently a national or permanent resident; or, if the person is notable mainly for past events, where the person was such when they became notable." Since he was born in the Russian Empire and became notable while living there, he would be described as Russian. ... discospinster talk 19:07, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Manmohan (judge)

[edit]

I appreciate your cooments on my talk page. Please see your DIFF. So you suggesting me (by discussing these issues) to violate undertakings by Wikimedia given to Indian court of this judge as recorded in the first artycle of english wikipadia taken down by court order ? The "deleted" artycle is still accessible from WMF server so I quote for you from it On 14 October, a bench – comprising justices Manmohan and Tushar Rao Gedela – heard the appeal; they said that Wikipedia's portrayal of ANI was potentially defamatory, and hence, must be defended by the editors in question.[24][27] They also characterized Wikipedia's refusal to divulge the identifying details as "extremely disturbing", and warned that WMF would lose its protection under the Safe Harbor Act shall it choose to defend the allegations of defamation.[26][28][27] The judges further objected to the creation of an English Wikipedia article about the defamation case, alleging interference with "a sub-judice matter" and took particular umbrage at the article mentioning criticism of Chawla's order.[26][29] Later that week, the court passed an order directing all "pages on Wikipedia pertaining to the single judge [Chawla] as well as discussion of the observations of division bench [Manmohan and Gedela]" to be "taken down or deleted within 36 hours".[30][31][32] On 18 October, ANI asked the court to seek contempt proceedings against the WMF, since the 36-hour deadline had not been complied with.[33] As an administrator/sysop you can verify this QUOTE text is accuret and exact, and it said "..all.." pages... You are a senior sysop with many edits, so please canduct per the Universal Code and using terms first and Wp local rules second.. To avoid mis-communications, WP editors operate under terms of the WMF first and after that rule of local wikis. WMF terms supersede those of any wiki.Dmitri2025 (talk) 20:04, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If WMF's lawyers say that the information has to be removed, then it will be removed. Until then, it is cited relevant content that will stay in the article. ... discospinster talk 23:10, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Huggle question

[edit]

Hello. I have just started using Huggle two days ago. I would like to ask if it is possible to program a delay between when an edit is reverted and when a user is warned about vandalism on their talk page if you press Q. Thanks. Cyrobyte (talk) 02:41, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not familiar with the nuts and bolts of Huggle, you might want to ask your question at Wikipedia talk:Huggle/Feedback. If you go to System > Options > Warnings there is an option to confirm a warning if the user got one not long before. ... discospinster talk 02:45, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Failed attempt to make the History section a sub-heading for the Background heading in the Walt Disney Classics page

[edit]

I had to make the History section a sub-heading for the Background heading in the Walt Disney Classics page, but why did you change it back? 2601:1C1:837F:EFE0:F90E:F354:7336:544 (talk) 20:39, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Because the History section of an article is generally its own section, not a sub-section. ... discospinster talk 20:43, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it doesn't make sense if the History section of an article isn't the sub-heading for the Background heading section, and that's what I hate.

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Daniel Dubois: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Not sure why you didn't place one, but I've gone ahead and issued a warning template to the user in question (there was already a note from a previous revert). Cheers. So much for not templating the regulars.-- Deepfriedokra (talk) 02:07, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd've asked you if you'd heard the Good News about TWINKLE.-- Deepfriedokra (talk) 02:10, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepfriedokra: Is there a rule against using templates on 'regulars' or something? I did notice that their account is 20 years old and they must be quite active, judging by the talk page, but I didn't think it would preclude the use of a template. It's concise and gets the message across. I did consider there might have been a reason or such for it, which is why I added the custom personal message at the end instead of just calling it a day.

@Yutah123:It's an essay, Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars 😜 -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 08:55, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepfriedokra: Hmm, makes sense as a guideline. I do however genuinely believe that in this case {{Template:Uw-warn}} fits just right, and I added enough personal touch. I'm pretty slow at typing up messages, so they help me a lot, and getting back to patrolling recent changes faster is a plus. In any case, fhanks for sharing.

I have essential tremors, and could not function without templates for some things.
