ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, SamHolt6. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for George Charles Beckley

On 29 January 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article George Charles Beckley, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that according to family tradition, George Charles Beckley designed the Flag of Hawaii, which was passed down as an heirloom in the form of a child's frock? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/George Charles Beckley. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, George Charles Beckley), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Invitation to join MILHIST

Welcome to MILHIST

March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deleting

Why did you delete my passage about king of thieves it is an actual game and it is the first topic I wrote Infominer17 (talk) 20:49, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Infominer17:. Nominated article for deletion based off of Wikipedia's criteria. The key word is nominated, an administrator deleted your page base off of my recommendation.--SamHolt6 (talk) 21:10, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello SamHolt6 If you don't know the person or the local area, I don't think you should try to gauge something as promotional when it clearly isn't. There are no dealership or physical stores linked to or mentioned. It is simply an article that highlights a local celebrity doing good in his community and country. Please take down your nomination if you aren't from the local area. If you don't' know the person that is fine, but many people from the local community will find this information useful. We do not have enough content in our local area and I would appreciate that we help each other and build each other up with positive information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by H abramyk (talkcontribs) 21:06, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It did not take more than a few seconds to erase my work. Are you proud now? The IAA is an advertising association giant, going well beyond any boundary that you appear to be aware of. Correspondingly, it plays a significant global role. You didn't give me (or anyone) a chance to add news references, but you'd be well advised - unless you suffer from a marked conflict of interest - to make yourself a little more knowledgeable about the ramifications of the industry. -- Kku (talk) 13:41, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. Notice however that I tagged the page for deletion, and did not delete it myself. I recommend creating an article in your sandbox first before attempting to create to avoid this problem. As far as the IAA is concerned, the salting will prevent it from being created in the future. Regards. SamHolt6 (talk) 13:45, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing out the user space method. Even by only looking at the member list, it should have been fairly obvious that we are not discussing another fanboy site. Salting? What are you talking about? Do you mean to say there is a (hidden) switch to automatically erase stuff that was once (and for whatever bad reason) evaluated as not notable?? What kind of nonsense is this? -- Kku (talk) 13:58, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Wikipedia:Protection_policy#Creation_protection. Right. Since you appear to be aware of the mechanism, why did you NOT give me a chance to argue first? If the mechanism was in place before, why did it even let me recreate the thing? Are you aware of who salted the page and when (a quick glance at protected:pages did not provide me with any information) Please clarify. -- Kku (talk) 14:02, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've declined your CSD on Equilar, Inc. because the sources there were enough to indicate the presence of some sort of notability. I'm not sure if it'd survive AfD, but take it there if you wish to delete it. There are some results on Google News when searching for the company, such as [1], [2], [3]. Speedy Deletion of CardRates.com

Thanks for reviewing the article. I have contested the deletion on the article's talk page and would be happy to edit it as necessary immediately if you would be willing to provide feedback. Steevven1 (Talk) (Contribs) (Gallery) 03:45, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

CSD tagging

I'm afraid I have had to revert a number of your CSD tags as they do not meet the criteria specified in WP:CSD. In particular, the WP:CSD#A7 "no indication of importance" is not "nominating for deletion". It is designed for articles on your pet cat, your next door neighbour, or a YouTuber you met once that are completely impossible (my emphasis) for any editor, no matter how determined, to be able to salvage into a working article. There is no way that Donald Trump Jr's defence lawyer fits that criteria.

I have to advise you to stop putting CSD tags on articles or I'm afraid I will be forced to block you from editing to avoid further disruption. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:44, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm reading through Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion, A7 is described as "No indication of importance (people, animals, organizations, web content, events." This applies to web content and people, yes? Have I been using ((Db-a7)) too broadly, and should I resort to the options listed below? Is the general sense of the argument that I should be more selective with my tags? SamHolt6 (talk) 15:00, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I, Anarchyte, SoWhy and Kudpung have all declined CSDs from you recently, and while administrators aren't perfect, when four independently tell you you're making mistakes, odds are that we have a point. I would recommend User:Ritchie333/Plain and simple guide to A7 and User:SoWhy/Common A7 mistakes as a starter instead of the policy page. The principal problem with CSDs is they bypass the core deletion policy which states that administrators never delete pages without a firm consensus - so the criteria is very narrowly scoped to avoid arguments over whether a unilateral deletion was correct or not, whenever possible. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:04, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Read the articles. It seems I managed to stumble into a number of pitfalls, most predominantly the policies on notability and verification. In the future I will resort to standard Afd if an article makes a claim, and I will reduce my usage of A7 in general. I do have one question though. I have been watching the developments on the Elenas Models page, where another editor has flagged the article for both A7 and G11. Why is this possible in this scenario and not in others, as the article does cite sources and make claims? SamHolt6 (talk) 15:44, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Brandpro Online would be another example. I would like to be certain, as articles along the lines of these two are the ones I want to be on the lookout for and be ready to evaluate.--SamHolt6 (talk) 15:50, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Citing sources is strictly speaking not relevant, although an article that cites reliable sources will almost certainly fail A7 since any subject that any reliable source thought worth covering is significant enough that further discussion is warranted. Regards SoWhy 16:06, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I deleted Brandpro Online. I changed Elenas Models from CSD A7 to proposed deletion because one of the sources is an interview with the company founder. That's enough of a "hook" to make somebody potentially able to look at other sources and maybe write a sub. Personally, I'm not interested in Russian dating agencies (particularly ones that have a nasty feeling like they encourage human trafficking) and if I started improving the article I might need to explain to Mrs333 what on earth I'm doing on the computer (though she knows me well enough to believe "I'm saving a Wikipedia article from being deleted" to be a credible excuse); I'm sceptical anyone can improve it, so I've put the PROD tag on to see if anyone comes forward - if nobody does, it'll silently fade away into the background.
Ultimately, the best way you can learn what's acceptable to tag at CSD and what isn't is to spend more time contributing to debates at Articles for deletion first, and see what typically gets kept, and what gets thrown out. Then you'll have a "gut feel" for things. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:09, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So trivial citations (for purposes of illustration, a small company citing their own website or a blog) can be discounted when judging for A7?--SamHolt6 (talk) 16:12, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It depends entirely on the article and the context - you can't apply a hard and fast rule to this. For example, "JoeSchmoe666 is a l33t cool gamer who is wikkid on Roblox and Minecraft, check out his scores!" - that could cite YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and any number of gaming sites as "sources" but I'll still delete it per A7 without blinking. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:13, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Very well. The general outcome of this discussion is that I will be more conservative in my future evaluations. I will tag anything blatant to the best of my ability, but will more often resort to more in-detail and slower pace afd methods. Many thanks to Riche and SoWhy for the assistance.--SamHolt6 (talk) 16:21, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again. Just wanted to say that on AccountSight, G4 doesn't apply. The discussion was closed after it was speedily deleted, which means the discussion did not last the whole minimum 7 days. Here's the relevant part of WP:G4: This criterion also does not cover content undeleted via a deletion review, or that was only deleted via proposed deletion or speedy deletion. Have a look here for more information, courtesy of SoWhy. Cheers, Anarchyte (work | talk) 06:07, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, it's a bit disconcerting that I'm back here again, but I've just rejected your G1 nomination of Alex Kelser. G1 is used for incoherent text, which means that if you can understand what it says, G1 doesn't apply. I've since tagged the article with A7, but I think you should read over WP:CSD another time before Ritchie333 follows through with what he said above. Anarchyte (work | talk) 09:19, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Kindly see my comments on the talk page of the article Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited. It will be great if you can mention why you feel it meets the G11 criteria for advertisement or promotions. The article in its current stage clearly does not meets the G11 criteria. If you are concerned, make a PROD or AfD. Amartyabag TALK2ME 06:49, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello dear Sam. Thank you for mentioning this. I think there is a misunderstanding here. I didn't intend to advertise or promote this NGO. Edoardo Agnelli is just a cultural NGO and not supported politically or financially by any governmental organization. I just created a page for the NGO in Wikipedia in order to introduce it as an association spreading peaceful thoughts and fighting extremism. You can see similar pages in Wikipedia such as: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_Society_of_Students https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_Students%27_Association_(Indonesia) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_Society_(Bahrain)

Speedy Deletion of Cheiron Inc.

Hey SamHolt6. The content posted for Cheiron Inc. is entirely factual and not meant for promoting or advertising the business. Would you be able to point out exactly what part of the post you thought was advertising? Also, you mentioned that it isn't clear as to why it is important to have a wiki page on Cheiron Inc. - If a company exists, is it not important to have information about it available on Wikipedia? Am I missing something? Cheiron Inc. consults cities, counties and states on various decisions that influence millions of people across America. Please advice me on how to improve the post to meet Wikipedias standards. Thank you. Karan lala (talk) 20:21, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear SamHolt6, I would urge you to re-read the article and read the comments of people above me on your talk page before re-proposing the deletion of the page Celixir. Rollback granted

Hi SamHolt6. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Alex ShihTalk 19:28, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Notifying article creators about an AfD

Hi there,

Just a heads up that common practice is to notify article creators when nominating an article for deletion (or proposing deletion, or tagging for speedy deletion). If you use Twinkle, it does this automatically when creating a nomination page. Otherwise, it's just {{subst:Afd notice| Milford Drive-In Theater}}. It's not a strict rule (there are some cases when it does not make sense to notify someone, and sometimes the creator only created, say, a redirect and isn't the primary editor of a page), but very standard wikiquette. I've gone ahead and notified the creator of Milford Drive-In Theater. Sorry if you know all this and you just hadn't gotten to it yet. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 19:55, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of BCMMetrics

Hi there. The BCMMetrics page was previously deleted because it "read too much like an advertisement." I have since had a writer and editor who are knowledgeable about writing in a neutral manner for Wikipedia re-work the article and references, removing a substantial amount of information to really simplify the article. The resources used have also been updated, and are all reputable sources. I updated that post today, and it was deleted again. Could you please advise as to what I should do in order to get this page restored? Thank you! (talk) 15:41, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gshultis, your "rework" of the page was almost identical to the page that was deleted as a result of this deletion discussion. This means it falls into the G4 category of speedy deletions, "duplication of a page deleted at XFD".
As a minor point, I notice that your account is the one that created both versions of the page, but this contradicts what you have just said here. Please do not be sharing your account information with anyone else; only one person is allowed to use one account. If you have people helping you, please have them create their own accounts.
If you wish to write about BCMMetrics, I highly suggest you use the Article Wizard to create a Draft, which will be reviewed by experienced editors after submission. Primefac (talk) 15:55, 28 August 2017 (UTC) (talk page stalker)[reply]
