Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)
    • For other types of questions, use the search box, see the reference desk or Help:Contents. If you have comments about a specific article, use that article's talk page.
    • Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only.
    • If your question is about a Wikipedia article, draft article, or other page on Wikipedia, tell us what it is!
    • Check back on this page to see if your question has been answered.
    • For real-time help, use our IRC help channel, #wikipedia-en-help.
    • New editors may prefer the Teahouse, a help area for beginners (but please don't ask in both places).

Fix the reference of Team Finland 1998 Women's Ice Hockey

I need your help to fix the right corrections of Team Finland in the Women's Ice Hockey rosters for the 1998 Olympic Winter Games. 108.21.67.83 (talk) 06:00, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Thank you very much. 108.21.67.83 (talk) 06:05, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. Looks like the archive date in the reference did not match the date that the URL specified. Tollens (talk) 06:05, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Circular categories

Just curious, is there any guideline regarding circular categories? I thought that the category hierarchy would strictly be a DAG, then I found that Category:Probability and Category:Probability theory contain each other. Stormraiser (talk) 07:22, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I thought so too, Stormraiser, but I lack the energy to look for some proscription. In your place, I'd ask this question at Wikipedia talk:Categorization. -- Hoary (talk) 07:27, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's... not even close to acyclic. WP:Category cycles handily redirects to User:SDZeroBot/Category cycles, which doesn't seem to have been updated in some time. —Cryptic 09:28, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well... reading that list made me realize that proper categorization is hopelessly difficult... Stormraiser (talk) 10:19, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A talk page with no corresponding article -- how to delete

Back in 2016 there was a small flurry of page renaming, initiated by the boldness of a well-intentioned but mistaken editor. I was aware of this, but not involved (though I did comment on the talk page that the initial move should be undone). I realized just yesterday that, as a result, we have since then had a talk page, Talk:Center City West, Philadelphia, that has no corresponsing article. (Center City West, Philadelphia redirects to Center City, Philadelphia.)

How can we get rid of this orphaned talk page? TypoBoy (talk) 13:18, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@TypoBoy, G8 of the speedy deletion criteria is for Talk pages with no corresponding subject page (among other things). 57.140.16.15 (talk) 13:59, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) I've gone ahead and deleted the talk page (though I thought about redirecting it to Talk:Penn Center, Philadelphia, which is where the article was before the move to Center City West), In the future, you can tag such unattached talk pages for G8 speedy deletion. Deor (talk) 14:13, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deor: Please undelete it and redirect it to Talk:Penn Center, Philadelphia. I don't believe G8 covers talk pages of redirects (or move redirects to a talk page, which is what this title should have become when the article was moved, as with Talk:Penn Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which is still redirected to this deleted title). SilverLocust 💬 14:26, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@SilverLocust: There's nothing in the history of Talk:Center City West, Philadelphia that needs to be preserved, and redirecting to Talk:Penn Center, Philadelphia doesn't seem useful, since Center City West, Philadelphia redirects to Center City, Philadelphia, not to Penn Center, Philadelphia. I don't understand why you think G8 doesn't apply in this case; could you clarify your comment? Deor (talk) 15:45, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deor: The article's move history is
Penn Center, Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaPenn Center, PhiladelphiaCenter City West, PhiladelphiaPenn Center, Philadelphia.
If the talk page had been moved correct, it would have been
Talk:Penn Center, Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaTalk:Penn Center, PhiladelphiaTalk:Center City West, PhiladelphiaTalk:Penn Center, Philadelphia.
All of those titles should be kept as redirects to the current title. I'm not saying the history was extensive, but that Talk:Center City West, Philadelphia wasn't "dependent on a non-existent or deleted page" (WP:G8). If I recall correctly, it had a couple comments from TypoBoy and a content assessment from some other editor. SilverLocust 💬 16:19, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    OK,  Done. Deor (talk) 16:27, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Green Day discography section

Hi, I was just adding some more albums to the discography. Is this list only for the studio albums? APPLE JUCE (talk) 15:18, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please use the article talk page, Talk:Green Day, to address concerns about your edits to the Green Day article. This way the other editors who follow that article will see it. 331dot (talk) 15:21, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@APPLE JUCE: It seems the short list in the article Green Day is just studio albums. Rather than expand that section, you should add anything that is missing to Green Day discography. RudolfRed (talk) 15:23, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Chinese Politburo Articles

In recent months one user (TheUzbek) appears to have taken it upon himself to gut the various individual Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party articles (i.e. 18th Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party, 19th Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party...) and move all mention and discussion of the respective Politburos' standing committees to articles entirely about those PSCs beyond a note of how many members each PSC had. I attempted to restore indication of just which members of the 20th Politburo served on its PSC and he quickly reverted me saying there was no reason for this. I differ vehemently as I think it makes one much less informed about the internal structure of the Politburo about which one is reading. I don't know whether discussion of this policy has already taken place and his campaign greenlighted by some broader project, or whether proposing reconsideration of this would have to be scattered among the individual affected articles or centered in the generic Politburo article or some other CCP structure article's talk page. But it affects many articles and I thought I'd ask here. 71.105.190.227 (talk) 16:37, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you have discussed this on the article talk page and failed to reach a consensus, you should move to dispute resolution processes. 331dot (talk) 16:39, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the Title of an Article

Is there a way to "change or correct" the Title of an article? Specifically, the Page or article about Allexey Von Schmidt mis-spells his first name as "Alexey". However, throughout the article, his first name is spelled correctly as "Allexey." 172.56.209.68 (talk) 17:43, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the title of an article requires, in Wikipedia jargon, a page move. If you think this move will be completely uncontroversial(i.e. just fixing a typo), you may request it at Requested Moves. 331dot (talk) 17:45, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Some sources in the article have it as Allexey, others as Alexey. See https://sierrawave.net/join-fecm-for-annual-meeting-in-independence/ for the first, https://thetahoeweekly.com/2019/09/the-california-nevada-border-war/ or https://juliacbulette.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/The-Colorful-History-of-the-California-Nevada-State-Boundary.pdf for the second. I'd suggest discussion on the talk page at page at Talk:Alexey W. Von Schmidt , of course a bigger issue is that the article is half about him and half about the boundary marker, to the point where the short description is about the Boundary Marker!Naraht (talk) 17:57, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

When you look up Krist on a web browser, under his name comes novoselic.com BUT that actually links to a scam page and NOT novoselic.com. What they did was use the text novoselic.com but linked that text somewhere else NotQualified (talk) 18:26, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@NotQualified, are you referring to something that you see on the search engine page or actually in the Wikipedia article? We only have control of one of those things here, not the other. 57.140.16.15 (talk) 19:40, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No website at all appears when I search for Krist Novoselic using the built-in Wikipedia search function, just the short description. However, I see that your edits are tagged Mobile edit, Mobile web edit - perhaps this is a mobile feature? Someone else using that software might want to give searching a try. I couldn't find any link in the article which was redirecting to a different site. 57.140.16.15 (talk) 22:00, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@NotQualified: Wikipedia's search engine page for Krist Novoselic is [1] for our desktop site and [2] for our mobile site. They only link to the article and don't mention novoselic.com. I suspect you mean something else but I don't know what. Please post a link to the search engine page you refer to. If possible, also try it in another browser or on another computer or device. The problem may be at your end. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:07, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User:NotQualified, sounds like what you've got there is a "Google knowledge panel" or maybe they're called "Google snippets" now. Interestingly, I just verified DuckDuckGo has a similar thing, which also links novoselic.com, which appears to have been usurped by a garbage malware entity. wait did we get viruses by just clicking it or? NotQualified (talk) 10:34, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nah we're on our phones. Phone operating systems are pretty good at not letting websites install arbitrary pieces of software without asking for user permission. You were the one who brought up viruses though; I didn't wait for the usurping page to load once I verified novoselic.com redirects to another site. For all I know it could just be selling gambling or cryptocurrency or whatever it is those horrible places do once they've snatched up a lapsed domain name. Folly Mox (talk) 11:57, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@NotQualified: It sounds like you are not making searches here at wikipedia.org but at some unknown external search engine. There are hundreds or thousands of them. I asked "Please post a link to the search engine page you refer to", but you didn't. Maybe your Chrome installation has a default search engine but I cannot say what it is. I have tried several search engines including Google but none of them gave the result you mention. Wherever you see it, it's almost certainly not a site controlled by Wikipedia although the site may display some content they copied from Wikipedia. how do i reply with a screenshot? NotQualified (talk) 23:38, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was about to change the citation templates on the three mainspace articles that link novoselic.com to |url-status=usurped, but it looks like the usurpation has been undone and the site no longer redirects to spammy trash. Folly Mox (talk) 00:12, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List of countries with universal health care

Why does South Africa not appear as one of the countries in Africa that offer universal health care to it's citizens? As a Soutn African I know that the state has governement run hospitals and clinics that offer free medical services and medication. Sizomgubuli (talk) 20:55, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest that you discuss your concern on the talk page associated with that article, Talk:List of countries with universal health care, where the editors that follow that article will see it. 331dot (talk) 21:01, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Note that a country having public health facilities doesn't necessarily mean it has universal health care; the US has many public health facilities but not universal health care. If you have independent reliable sources that claim South Africa has universal health care, please offer them on the talk page. 331dot (talk) 21:02, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Here goes. EPEAviator (talk) 01:11, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for doing that, EPEAviator – there are hundreds more in subpages of that page which is primarily what I was talking about in terms of there being a lot of links, though they might get few enough pageviews that it isn't really a big deal? Tollens (talk) 01:39, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I had not remembered the subpages, but I even clicked on one and was like "oh, this isn't some gambling site, great!" doh... it seems like a task for a very rainy day or perhaps a bot might be designed to do this kind of thing? It seems there is a business in buying unrenewed links with some amount of traffic, which makes me think this isn't the only place this thing occurs. Currently, at Wikipedia:FAQ/Article subjects there are two email addresses suggested for an article's subject to contact Wikipedia when legal issues are concerned:

    • Under The information in your article about me is wrong. How can I get it fixed? It says:
      • "For serious legal issues, including libel, please send an E-mail to info-en-q@wikipedia.org."
    • Then, under I would like to sue you for lying about me in your article. How do I proceed? It says:
      • "If you have a genuine legal concern, tell us about it by emailing info-en-q@wikimedia.org."

My guess is that any difference between the two domains is irrelevant, and emails sent to either one will all end up going to the same place — but I'd like to know for certain. Thanks in advance for any info on this. Regards,  Spintendo  09:29, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Submitting an article to WikiProjects

How do I get an article I created to be rated on the content assessment scale and projects importance scale by different WikiProjects? Salutations25 (talk) 12:33, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Salutations25 If you think you understand the criteria, you can do so yourself up to a point per Wikipedia:Content_assessment#Assessing_articles. If you don't want to assess your own articles (I rarely do), you can wait, someone usually comes around sooner or later, or ask somebody, maybe at a wikiproject talkpage. Note that below GA , these assessments are very informal. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:15, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adding all articles in a cat to my watchlist?

Is there an easy way to add all articles in a category to my watchlist? If so, is there any way to add all articles in the cat and its subcats?Naraht (talk) 12:46, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not aware of any such method- some categories have hundreds of thousands of members(and more) and would flood your watchlist. 331dot (talk) 12:54, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Although not adding them to your watchlist, a work around is to bookmark a link to "related changes" for the category. (Go to the category page, click "Related changes" under "Tools" then choose how many changes over how many days you want to see, and book-mark it)
This has four advantages: 1) you don't have to add multiple pages, 2) you can see all the relevant changes, not just the most recent, all in one place, 3) if a new page is added to the category it will automatically appear without you having to notice and then add it, and 4) you can ignore/delete the bookmark if you are no longer interested, rather than finding and deleting the pages from your watchlist - Hope that helps - Arjayay (talk) 13:14, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Declining AfC review question

I've recently become an AfC reviewer and I had some questions about an article I'm reviewing (Draft:Kachin History (Colonial Period)). The article is encyclopedic and notable. However, it focuses narrowly on part of a topic (History of Kachin State) that doesn't have an article right now. I think it should be normally be merged into that broader article- but that broader article does not exist. Is that a decline or accept? Also not sure if this is supposed to be on the talk page on AfC project administration itself so asking here EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 16:15, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. Well in that case, I might have to agree with you, which is rare for these posts on here. Remsense 21:28, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Kdwyatt, please read WP:IMDB to learn that IMDb is not a reliable source. Please also read the Notability guideline for creative professionals and WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Cullen328 (talk) 21:33, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Thank you Kdwyatt (talk) 21:39, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is absolutely not about self-promotion. It is not the place to advertise oneself. There are plenty of other places; typically one's one website or blog, or via an employer's website, or in the case of TV/film IMDB. By all means stay here and make objective improvements to other articles, based on reliable sources; they would be most welcome, please. But in general, in your early days, concentrate on areas where you are not too personally invested (i.e. where you will not be personally disappointed if more experienced editors revert what you have written.) Hope that helps. Feline Hymnic (talk) 22:00, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance in writing a physics/chemistry-heavy article

Hello people, I'm looking for assistance in writing an article on the chain-melted state of matter, linked here -> User:SonOfYoutubers/Chain-Melted state - Wikipedia. I'm not asking for someone to write it for me, unless you really want to, but I need assistance in explaining the physics/chemistry part of the article, as well as actually understanding the sources I'm reading, which use a lot of formulas and language and vocabulary that I simply do not understand. Thank you in advance for anyone willing to help! SonOfYoutubers (talk) 01:08, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SonOfYoutubers I'll have a quick look, you could also try asking the relevant Wikiprojects Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:03, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It might be an idea to move it from your personal space into the Draft namespace when seeking collaboration. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:50, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@SonOfYoutubers I think you have done a good job of creating a draft, which as advised should be best moved into draft-space and then submitted for review (see WP:AFCREVIEW for details). We have specialists like User:Graeme Bartlett who would I think be happy to accept your draft even in its current state. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:45, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So I move the page to draft and submit it for review? I don't need to add any additional information? SonOfYoutubers (talk) 20:49, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Neropenna: I also found it in the USGS Geographic Names Information System see here. DuncanHill (talk) 01:41, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Did you have a question about using or editing Wikipedia? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 06:38, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why is that page not semi-protected? It just got blanked by an IP, and given that it is a maintenance category used by bots, it seems odd that anyone could edit it like this. ChaotıċEnby(talk) 07:52, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Chaotic Enby: Edits like that are unlikely to confuse the bots. The bots probably only read and process the list of articles, not the text at the top of the category page. A bad/test edit every few months isn't enough to warrant protection, usually. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:13, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I was just afraid because there were several templates that got deleted when blanking along with the text, and I wasn't sure if some bots relied on these to know how to deal with the category. ChaotıċEnby(talk) 08:15, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Notifications

Normally, when a notification at the top of a page is read, it is greyed out with an option to remove altogether. I have two wikidata notifications that have greyed out, but there seems to be no obvious way to remove them. One has been there for a month. Please help Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:24, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is this for Wikipedia? To my knowledge there isn't any way to actually delete notifications or alerts; only mark them as read, which can be done by clicking on the small blue circle that appears in the top-right corner of an item when hovering over it. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 11:12, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jimfbleak All your notifications should be at Special:Notifications, which shows them in batches of 50 by default. There are options to change the things you are notified about but not, as Tenryuu says, to delete them. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:37, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenryuu and Michael D. Turnbull: thanks, I meant "marked as read", I guess. A real "duh" moment, despite all the years I've edited here, I didn't realise what the blue dot as for... Problem solved Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:15, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to change the title of a category?

Hello everyone, So the Wikipedia page As-Salt is named As-Salt, however the Category is Category:People from Al-Salt, how can I change it to People from As-Salt and ensure it works? Thanks Chacabangaso (talk) 10:42, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Chacabangaso Al-Salt is a redirect to As-Salt, so I wouldn't worry about it. Technically, category titles are changed in the same way as article titles are, by a WP:MOVE. See that page for moving categories (which describes how to request the move). Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:31, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Chacabangaso category names can be changed by a nomination at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion or in simple cases Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy. I have nominated Category:People from Al-Salt at the latter. TSventon (talk) 13:04, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Accessing and changing details for an account

Hello, I am having problems with another, older account of mine, which has existed since about 2006. I am currently logged into it on some devices, but have forgotten the password, and cannot change it as the email address is inaccessible. I realize that this would go against normal procedures - but I would desperately like to retain access to this account and change the password/email address. Is there any way to help with this? Thank you 138.251.189.184 (talk) 11:40, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

IP editor. If you have access to the account on a device, just navigate to Special:Preferences and set up a current email address. That page also has a link to change the password: but set the email address first! Incidentally, many browsers remember the credentials for the websites where they add them automatically, so by going into the settings on your browser, you should be able to find the old password. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:21, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You need the password to change the email address. See Template:Committed identity. If your real identity is private and you want it to stay like that then you can use the template while logged in to say which email address you want to be set for the account. Whether you can get somebody to do it is another matter and may depend on your contribution level but a committed identity is an important step to get a chance. Do it before randomly losing your login which often happens. Then you can try a request at phabricator. Local Wikipedia administrators like me do not have access to set an email address for others. Carlton Heard

    Hi –

Could you please review my references and inform me which sources are not reliable? All the sources come from outlets such as ESPN, Apple, Tubi, etc. Is the issue related to the order of the references, or is it related to how the article is written? Please advise on the steps I should take to ensure approval.

    Page: Draft:Carlton Heard BlackSpace7 (talk) 13:38, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

BlackSpace7 First, please disclose your connection to Heard, please see WP:PAID and WP:COI.
The issue is not the sources themselves, but their content- none of them seem to have significant coverage of Heard- coverage that goes beyond merely documenting his career. 331dot (talk) 13:41, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've discussed this somewhat on your user talk page- you have posted what appear to be professionally taken images of Heard and claimed them as your own work. Did you take these images? 331dot (talk) 13:43, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Hi 331dot –
Thanks for reviewing. Yes, these are my photos. So an article like https://www.espn.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/105391/low-meet-the-walk-on-who-changed-the-sec is not significant coverage? Or https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/carlton_heard
    -Carlton BlackSpace7 (talk) 14:30, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the first sources is an interview with him, which is not an independent source as by definition it is Heard speaking about himself. The RT source is a basic entry for him and does not provide significant coverage of him. 331dot (talk) 14:36, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BlackSpace7: In addition, 7 of the 17 references failed verification. Your goal should be to gather independent reliable sources and write the draft based on what the sources say. GoingBatty (talk) 19:18, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the guidance! Could you please share which sources were approved? Having that list will enable me to craft the article more effectively.

@Britfilm The template {{Transform-rotate}} can do this. Alternatively, you can ask for the underlying image to be rotated on Commons (assuming it isn't needed elsewhere in its current form). Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:34, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Getting current edit number

I am trying to use the Service award progress template, but I want to make it update with the current edit number. How would I go about doing that?
    Thanks, 23emr (talk) 18:19, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@23emr: Hi there! In Special:Preferences, on the "User profile" tab, you'll see your number of edits. GoingBatty (talk) 18:38, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And then, change the {{Service award progress}} template from |edits=310 to your current number of edits. GoingBatty (talk) 18:40, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any way to do it automatically? 23emr (talk) 18:40, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No. This would put an unreasonable load on the servers. ColinFine (talk) 18:56, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    why my article declined again

    Dear Editor,

I provided a draft that is dedicated to my supervisor Prof. Stefanoi De Marchi who is a great Mathematician.

I tried to write it complete and refer to all his achivements. I have seen many artticles about the other Mathematicians that are not so novel that have been already published in Wikipedia. But I do not know my draft is declined over and over. Please have a look at my draft. The links and references that I put in this draft show that Prof. De Marchi is a briliant Mathematician and I want to make this page in order to introduce him more to the young Mathematicians.

    Thank you in advance,

    Best regards Drmohammadimath (talk) 04:51, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

     Courtesy link: Draft:Stefano De Marchi Tollens (talk) 04:52, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Drmohammadimath: Right now, the draft contains no sources that are independent of the subject. Before the draft can be accepted, it will need at least three reliable sources, independent of the subject (his own works and works by his friends do not count), containing significant coverage of him (not just passing mentions). Wikipedia does not use the typical meaning of the word 'notability' – while in everyday language it simply means "worthy of note" (which this person very well may be), here it means "discussed in reliable sources", and as of now this has not been demonstrated in the article. Tollens (talk) 04:59, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Drmohammadimath, when I search for Stefanoi De Marchi on Google Scholar, page after page of results are for a heart disease specialist by that or a similar name. I do not see any easily accessible results in the scientific literature for the mathematician. Perhaps you should wrote a biography of the cardiologist first, if your goal is to improve the encyclopedia. Cullen328 (talk) 05:05, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Many thanks for your reply.
But in some of the references and links I provided he does not have any role. I can see a lot of pages in Wikipedia for some other Mathematicians who are less brilliant than him but with a published page. Actually I do not know how I can Improve this page more.
    Thanks a lot. Drmohammadimath (talk) 09:07, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to find out the edit count of pages with templates?

I am trying to find out the total edit count for 2023 of the page Wikipedia:Deletion review. If I go to view history, page statistics, year counts, you can see a sharp drop from 14,000 edits to 100. This is because of the use of templates to organize the requests. Are there ways to be able to see the true total of edits of the page? Regards, Thinker78 (talk) 05:15, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the history and count. There's 4.
Or 5125, if you actually meant edits to the daily subpages and not "true total edits", which really is 4.
And if you really meant "changes to pages during the time they happened to be transcluded on Wikipedia:Deletion review", that's not just-write-a-query level of difficulty, it's many-billable-hours level of difficulty, unless someone's happened to have already written a tool to do so (unlikely). There's no way to trivially get a list of all the templates a given page transcluded at an arbitrary time; it just happens to be mostly predictable for the daily logs. (Only mostly, because once in a while someone edits a subpage like that well after it's delisted, like so). —Cryptic 06:03, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. You are correct, the page itself includes templates for each day that are edited in another page each separately. I was hoping there was a way to get a count of the whole year of the sum of edits in each template in the Deletion review page. I guess if I copy paste into a word counter each template page text, I can get what I am looking for. And as you indicated, it would take me around 6 hours... Sigh. Maybe with some SQL code it could be achieved faster. Regards, Thinker78 (talk) 06:15, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, that's the easy case. 5125. The hard case is, say, looking at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2008 October 9, seeing that it transcludes {{cite news}}, and trying to include edits to Template:Cite news during the time frame while that subpage was on DRV. And to any of Template:Cite news' subtemplates. (But only while both they were transcluded onto Template:Cite news and it was on the daily page and the daily page itself was on DRV.) It's turtles all the way down. The only instant of time when you can get the whole list of transcluded templates is "now". —Cryptic 06:24, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are absolutely correct. And I didn't notice your SQL query. Neat! I appreciate it much. Regards, Thinker78 (talk) 06:52, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
