The Hunted is a 2015 American film created and directed by Robert Chapin based on the action comedy web series The Hunted (2001).[1][2] It stars Chapin and Monique Ganderton in lead roles and tells the story of a struggling actor who leads a group of misfit slayers against an army of vampires.[3] The film is one of the first to be produced under SAG’s New Media contract and was distributed online through Vimeo VOD.[4][5][6][7][8]

Plot

Coming to terms with his unsuccessful attempts at becoming an actor, Bob (Chapin) is bitten by a vampire, Susan (Ganderton). Susan is the daughter of a crazed vigilante slayer. Consequently, Bob becomes one of the "hunted". The hunted describes a small group of humans, bitten but not turned, and who use cold steel and fighting techniques to fend off vampires. The vampires, however, have developed an immunity to everything over the years and the only way they can be killed is with a sword. However, the plot stems around the fact that Bob knows how to wield a sword, mostly due to his starring role in an 80’s action flick called, “Vampslayer”.[9] Bob helps Susan and the hunted defend themselves against the vampires.

He collaborated with his friends and colleagues in creating this underdog story of LA-based vampire hunters.[10] The series garnered an active fan base who contributed to the series by creating user-generated content. These contributions became the main source of writings for this online series. The efforts by series fan to create content and thus try to become filmmaker mirrors the theme of the film, where soccer moms try to become vampire slayers. In their own way both are trying to discover their true self and achieve their ambitions.[11][12][13] The Hunted is known for often weaving lines from popular and literature into its dialogues. These includes reuse of lines from films such as Scarface (1983), Independence Day (1996) and even from Shakespearean poems.

Filming

The film received financial support in June 2011 via a Kickstarter campaign.[14] The film was shot in Hollywood, California in 2012 and is co-produced by New Deal Studios. Post-production was completed in March 2015. The majority of the film's cast consisted of stunt people.[15]
