Hello again

The source that the previous editor to yourself on the page, did actually source the official Miss Universe voting app, which is run by Choicely. Would that not be suitable as a source, even in the interim?

Kindest regards

A suggestion for News section on signpost

I remember asking one of the signpost regulars on discord about it, but it didn't actually get added. But meta:Wikimedia_Foundation_Bulletin/2024 was started last month and might be good for a small section on the News section. Best I can understand, it's WMF's ways of keeping the community updated on all departments and they recently published the one for 06-02, so we might see 07-01 before next signpost even. It's something I think more people will want to know about Soni (talk) 19:01, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Miss International 2024

Hello, why you remove these countries to contestants list. You cant falsing information Celestecourtesi (talk) 08:11, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Celestecourtesi:, I assume you are referring to this or an edit similar to it. The answer is simple and it isn't "falsing information". All information on Wikipedia must be verifiable: this is one of the core policies explained at WP:Verifiability. You or I or anyone else can remove information from articles that needs references, and is lacking them. So that's what I did. Please reply here or at one of the help boards if you don't understand. ☆ Bri (talk) 16:12, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note to talkpage stalkers

Fellow Wikipedians, I'm about to take a hiatus on most editing, starting with lightening up on monitoring of beauty pageant articles. It's a mess of unattributed unreferenced content, nonstandard markup including inappropriate use of flags, and ... let's say passionate editors. I hope that others like @Sciencefish: can keep the momentum moving in the right direction. This is after all an encyclopedia, not a fansite. I've listed some pages to watch at the top of this note, which I'll soon be taking off of my own watchlist. Note that many of these pages are protected due to persistent disruptive editing (including sockfarms) and all are under WP:GS/PAGEANTS. ☆ Bri (talk) 16:54, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Slowking4

Potentially G5 eligible articles

Thanks for filing that SPI. I had noticed both Gonecarpe and Oilycoldly and thought something odd was going on with them but am not familiar with Slowking. I tagged Gonecarp's article for G5 deletion because I did not think most of them really met notability anyway. Are you going to go through any other the other socks and tag those for G5? If so, let me know if you need help. Happy to grab a group or two. S0091 (talk) 17:21, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@S0091: Yes, I G5'ed one of their creations but will have to take a break for a while. Go crazy with the rest. ☆ Bri (talk) 22:20, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Some of those had too many edits by other editors to be eligible for G5 and while I did tag Ana Laura Portuondo Isasi, another editor removed it. S0091 (talk) 14:54, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like that editor had added some external links and an infobox, which IMO is not sufficient to qualify as a "substantial edit by other non-banned editors", but probably not worth fighting. ☆ Bri (talk) 15:27, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Teen USA (& Miss USA) articles

Hi Bri. While I was taking a break from WP I noticed you redirected many of the Miss Teen USA and Miss USA articles. Most have significant media coverage as evidenced by a quick search in Newspapers.com, but at the moment the Wikipedia Library connection is broken so that while I can search and view the articles, I can't clip them to reference in the article. Just wondering what the best way forward would be? Wait until they (hopefully) fix the Newspapers.com connection? Or just reference the newspaper details without a clipping link? I was able to fix some of the Miss USA articles from existing clips but the job would be a lot easier starting the research from scratch. Cheers CJinoz (talk) 11:17, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure exactly which page you intend to work on, but I think the ones I redirected had at most one or two sources. I guess the best way is to wait until your sources are accessible, then restore the page from the last revision prior to the redirect, and add the sources? Still, adding just one source to a one-source article probably won't be good enough for general notability, so I hope you plan to bring them up to snuff for WP:NEVENT. ☆ Bri (talk) 17:22, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just re-read your note and maybe you're worried about referencing an article that you can read without a URL to paste? This is OK, if you look at Wikipedia:Citing sources#Newspaper articles, you don't have to have an URL for a valid newspaper citation in Wikipedia. ☆ Bri (talk) 17:23, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Charm

Hello Bri, I know why not have a date for Miss Charm. That's why you put in draft 77.77.219.118 (talk) 10:10, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello anon. Yes, I draftified Miss Charm 2024. It was postponed as I noted leaving no indication that there is a Miss Charm 2024. Also discussed this on the talkpage before draftifying. Does this satisfy your inquiry? ☆ Bri (talk) 16:28, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reference for Miss Cosmo

Most of the sources about the delegates are announced on instagram, not on anywhere else but some editors did not allow to add these sources into the article. That's why i could not add these references. What can i do ? i thought that as long as these references from instagram will not take up more than 60% ? i had tried to add other sources as much as i can but some sources can only be announced and found on instagram Rain0099 (talk) 04:37, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Rain0099:Sounds like you are asking what to do if sources are less than exemplary. I'd say there are following options.
  • Leave the article as a draft (or move to draft) until better sources appear
  • Publish with poor sources and take your chances that it will be challenged by another editor and possibly deleted, stubbed, redirected, or draftified.
Personally I don't have a big problem with Instagram sourcing for announcements of regional contestants, but I don't think it's good to have the entire article based on Instagram alone. Lack of any independent coverage, especially after the finals, is a pretty good signal that the event was not notable. Good luck. ☆ Bri (talk) 13:50, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there Bri i know who is falsing information and protect vandalism its Aubrey O'Connell not PickMe10 Bina.biny99 and celestecourtesi. Please are u interested to unblock three users. they are not false information and protect vandalism, they're good editors to edit beauty pageant pages. Malincharanan (talk) 10:20, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Malincharanan: I do not have any special privileges to block or unblock. I'm a regular Wikipedia user like you – not an administrator. If you think pages need protection, you can ask for it at WP:RFPP. If you open a case there, you might mention that pageant pages are covered by pageants general sanctions (WP:GS/PAGEANTS), which makes it easier for administrators to take action. ☆ Bri (talk) 13:46, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

excuse me please better source for Miss Grand China winner. This page of MGI 2024 is prevent vandalism. 77.77.218.29 (talk) 07:15, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you are referring to this?
Sorry, I feel the burden is on the person adding a blank row. Not on me to fill in the row for them. It is supposed to be a table of selected people, not a table of names of countries followed by a bunch of blank columns.
In other words, tables of people "who have been selected" should not be set up for contests where someone has not been selected. It is self contradictory and just looks bad for a factual encyclopedia. ☆ Bri (talk) 13:34, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thon

Hello Bri:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Already added Draft Miss Cosmo 2025 per WP:DRAFT

Hi Bri, Good news i already add draft, since not ready withouth rediable sources. 77.77.219.225 (talk) 09:09, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't we just do this? You said you wanted one reliable source, and I'm going to hold you to that. This article has that source. --GRuban (talk) 12:54, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Back in July I said I refrained from making any more edits to the articles actively being rescued, in recognition of your good faith effort to improve them. But also in good faith you have to recognize that eventually all content, especially that regarding BLPs as these do, must be referenced under several policies including WP:V. Right? In other words, preservation of unreferenced content is finite in duration.
I think we're still in the same situation. Preservation of bad article state can not be indefinite. Hugely under-referenced articles, such as where there is only one source indicating the year's winner and what song they sang for the talent contest, or not even that much, is not tenable.
In all cases (unless I made a mistake), the Miss America articles were tagged for at least a couple of weeks before any more changes were made. Maybe you should propose a new way forward that allows for article improvement. In truth I don't know what's the problem with redirecting as it preserves all prior edits for any editor to restore – when appropriate based on referencing – even without admin privileges. ☆ Bri (talk) 15:05, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that it's not visible to the users, which is whom we're writing for, right? Not the editors? Anyway, baby steps. Miss America 2003, the one I'm talking about, has maybe half the content cited, you agree? Do you agree you are not going to turn it into a redirect a third time? Then we'll discuss the others. --GRuban (talk) 16:27, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll follow up on the specific article issue at Talk:Miss America 2003. ☆ Bri (talk) 16:42, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Universe 2024

Hello Bri

Earlier today, you removed ‘a blank row’ that was for Miss Universe Turkey. This was incorrect and should not have been done, as it clearly states in the Returns, that Turkey is participating.

I have corrected this error as the winner HAS been announced for Miss Universe Türkiye 2024.

Please bear this in mind during any future edits.

Kindest regards

Edit - I cannot seem to reply to you directly so have added my newer reply to you here.

As my above comment states, you removed the row for Turkey, when the pageant was clearly taking place tonight. Go back and look at the previous edit history. At 15.22pm this afternoon, you made that edit.

Sophies mommy1988 (talk) 22:30, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you show a diff? I last edited Miss Universe 2025 in July, amd before that once last year. Neither had anything to do with turkey. ☆ Bri (talk) 22:38, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
please add new comments below this one, it is very confusing to reply to a changed request that I already replied to once.
to cut to the chase, we are talking about two edits: 1) I removed a line that had only the word "Turkeys". and 2) you added a row with Turkey and a contestant's name but no references . only #1 is consistent with editing standards. pkease do not add unreferenced rows to tables, regardless of when in the future the contest will be held. ☆ Bri (talk) 23:15, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, but it IS permissible to add the winner of a pageant, along with the [citation needed] tag, as often we view the pageant online via streaming etc, and get the name of the winner, then after searching for a suitable reference, we can then cite that reference. Also, when I’ve seen a pageant is coming up, especially within the next 24 hours, other editors will add the flag deco and country name etc, in order that they or another editor will find it easier to input that winner etc. I’ve seen this happen this way for years, before I started editing on here.

I need your help
