Source request

Question for you on the al-Durrah talk page. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 00:52, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm posting this here and on article talk. You turned up to revert for Jaakobou, because otherwise he would have violated 3RR. You've not edited this article since 2008 (and then only twice), and you hadn't edited WP since yesterday. Yet suddenly here you are, reverting, and adding sources that don't support what you say. "Militiamen" does not mean "policemen," and neither of the articles mentioned policemen fighting or a day of protest. This is the kind of editing this article has had in the past, and doesn't need in the future. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 01:33, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please remove your edit about policemen. You've admitted on talk that it's unsourced. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 01:35, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You asked me some time ago to be on the lookout for the Oliphant-book, well, I´m not sure if you already know, but it is now fully available on the net:

Could you please explain...

Could you please explain some of your comments here?

1

In particular, I would appreciate an explanation of your use of the phrase "inherent POV".

Possibly, you meant the current version of the article was deeply biased? Is that what you meant? Forgive me for being pedantic, that wouldn't be an "inherent" bias. What our deletion policies, and other policies, guidelines -- even essays like the WP:Coatrack essay recommend is that the biased section of articles be re-written, or marked for rewrite. Passages that lapse from neutrality are not supposed to trigger nominations for deletion.

I know some people think topics themselves can be "inherently POV". But I don't see how that view can be supportable. Some topics are controversial. Some topics are very controversial. But just because a topic is controversial does not mean we can't write a respectable, neutral article about that topic. All that is necessary is following our core policies and procedures. What is necessary is to make sure we have good, authoritative, verifiable references, and that we cite those references, quote those references, paraphrase those references, and summarize those references in a fair, neutral manner.

2

If you re-read WP:Coatrack I think you will find that it does not recommend deletion as a response to a coatrack concern.

Also, please note it is not a policy. It is one of essays that have been boldly moved into the wikipedia name-space and that are frequently cited as if they were policies. The essay does make some interesting points. But, sorry, in my experience 90 percent of those who call upon its authority ignore its recommendations.

Part of the responsibility of the closing administrator is to weigh the arguments offered, and discount those that are counter-policy.

Should the closing administrator have counted the all the opinions of those who claimed the article should be deleted based on the authority of coatrack? I don't think so. But, if the closing administrator thought they should I believe they absolutely had an obligation to say why they considered calls to the authority of coatrack as if it were a policy, when it is not a policy.

Thanks for reading this far. You were not obliged to read this. You aren't obliged to respond. But I would be grateful if you did.

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 22:35, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Despite the article title, the text uses "Mahaneh Yehuda" with the extra "h". Is that the standard? Should the article title and text be made consistent with each other? Chutznik (talk) 10:02, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Israel place articles

Good to see that Israel has amongst the highest numbers of articles on places per unit of area - see this study! пﮟოьεԻ 57 14:08, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the article N57. I wonder if the study includes Judea, Samaria, Golan, Gush Katif, and Sinai articles... :-) I can only imagine the edit war that would occur on that blog for that issue. --Shuki (talk) 07:37, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. Once I finish the Knesset member articles (around another 150 to go I think), I plan to go through all the village articles, adding infoboxes/maps etc. пﮟოьεԻ 57 09:09, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish colonies

Not that it really matters, but I think the original implication was that it was an alternative name for the settlements, one the Palestinians might use (at least that's what I get from Israeli settlement#Terminology and other mentions in that article). ~ Amory (utc) 21:40, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish colonies

You seem to labour under the impression that Jewish colonies in Palestine are never referred to as such. Please see [1], [2], [3], [4]. 'Israeli colonies' will get you even more mentions. On a related note, do you know are there many Druze or other minorities in the colonies? Lapsed Pacifist (talk) 22:02, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List of Israel Prize recipients

With regard to the "Automatic parser for table format" created by you, I note that you have not responded to the suggestions made by me on December 2. I would like to proceed with the conversion of the remainder of the list, preferably on the basis of these suggestions. If you are willing to amend the template, I will be willing to amend the section of the list already converted in order to be consistent with the revised template. It has just been pointed out that the Template produces table headings of "!Name!!Field!!Year!!Comments" instead of "!Year!!Name!!Field!!Comments". When you get a chance, would you please correct it. Thanks. Davshul (talk) 15:34, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted article MOdi'in AFC

The article I put up on Modi'in AFC has been deleted by User:Number_57 I think based on a lack of notability. You confirmed the page. Modi'in, a major Israeli city as you know, has no other soccer team, and while we are an ameuter team, we are no less notable than the baseball team that has survived his knife. The press reports on our league and our team give us some credance. Is there anythig we can do about this? (AFC561 (talk) 08:47, 30 December 2009 (UTC))[reply]

The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow!

Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck! But you removed more than just the Mossawa advocacy center's comments in his edit. If that was your intention, fine, but I'd appreciate an explanation for your edit at Talk:Avigdor Lieberman either way. Thanks. Tiamuttalk 21:42, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ynhockey, I think you schould not delete articles from your submission page if you got the points. You are the only one doing it that wa and I think the bot does only sum up what is in your submission subpage and not add up to your points. I can't see what the bot is doing, because it is down. But there is a subpage I created manually:Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Standings there I will pit 2*10points for DYK.--Stone (talk) 17:38, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Citation to Official Site re Israel Prize awards

Ynhockey. As you may be aware, in the case of all articles on Israel Prize recipients, I have included a reference citing the page on the Israel Prize official site giving details of the award (including, for more recent recipients, the recipient’s CV and judges’ rationale which also appears on the official site from 2000). However, I am concerned that should the official site be reorganized, all these citation could be lost. Accordingly, I decided to try providing a reference that cites both the Official Site and an archived version using [[WebCite], see Joseph Klausner. However, this creates quite a long reference and I would appreciate your advice at arriving at a suitable template for these references. I am placing a comment similar to this on the discussion page, Talk:List of Israel Prize recipients, for the convenience of your reply. Regards and thanks. WikiCup 2010 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), our current leader, who, at the time of writing, has more listed points than Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) (second and third place respectively) combined. A special well done also goes to Isle of Man Fetchcomms (submissions)- his artcle Jewel Box (St. Louis, Missouri) was the first content to score points in the competition.

Around half of competitors are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. 64 of the 149 current competitors will advance to round 2- if you currently have no points, do not worry, as over half of the current top 64 have under 50 points. Everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places in round 2! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck!
