Yiannis Melanitis (Template:Lang-el) is a Greek performance artist, sculptor, installation artist, digital artist, born in Athens in 1967.[1][2] Yiannis holds degrees in Painting (prof. X.Botsoglou), Sculpture (prof. G.Lappas) and a Masters degree in Digital Arts from the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA).[1] He is a PhD Fellow at NTUA, Athens School of Architecture.[2] In May 2010 he was elected as a Lecturer at the Sculpture Department of the Athens School of Fine Arts.[3] Among other artists, he has been reffering to M. Duchamp, I.Xenakis , Joyce, Joseph Beuys and was influenced by their work.[4]

His latest works include an interactive performance installation and exhibition called Kryographia (The Conductivity of Writing), which presents writing as a metaphor for absolute coldness, in Athens, 14 October 2010.[5][1][6][7] Dans Le Jardin d’ Epicure / Les elements comme des metaphors, a personal exhibition at the University Hospital of Geneva (Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève), Switzerland, in March 2006. Also, Pleasure Machine which was performed at The Eighth New York Digital Salon in Madrid, and at the Blue Stage in the House of World Cultures in Berlin.[1][8] Also Touch Terrain at the Monaco Dance Forum in Monaco, a multi-user interactive environment in 2006 and performance videos at Generative Arts, Milano, 2005.

In March 2008, he installed a sculpture exhibition at E31 Gallery, Athens, called Odysseus as Faust.[1][9] Texts about his work are written among others, by M. Digoni, Rea Thönges-Striggari, Edward Lucie-Smith (Art Tomorrow, editions Terrail; First edition (October 2002)), N. Adamou, and I. Maglinis.[1][9] Melanitis exhibited at the first Bienale of Modern Art in Thessaloniki.[10] He was one of the artistic directors of an exhibition dedicated to Joseph Beuys in Greece.[11][12] As an artist, Melanitis also exhibited his own art at the same exhibition.[13] He exhibited his work at the Eugenides Foundation.[14] He also exhibited at the second Performance Festival of Athens.[15]
