Bieber

For the same problem in the Bieber article, see Talk:Justin_Bieber#Selena

It is ridiculous that there is not even a sentence mentioning that she is dating Justin Bieber. It has been a well established public fact for months now, and whether some people like it or not, it is clearly a fact that belongs on her Wikipedia article. See, for example, http://www.torontosun.com/entertainment/celebrities/2011/03/06/17513671-wenn-story.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.65.67.94 (talk) 10:17, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

They're not married, and girlfriends don't count.--151.55.237.79 (talk) 13:59, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, this should be added.--Babar Suhail (talk) 06:06, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I actually think there should be a reference to her dating Justin. Longterm signifigant others ARE noteworthy. I've seen them mentioned many times throughout Wikipedia. 96.235.21.16 (talk) 17:06, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

i agree — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.50.72.187 (talk) 00:21, 17 October 2011 (UTC) _________________________________________[reply]

Perhaps someone should change her age to 19 years old, being that it's her birthday today. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.24.247.206 (talk) 03:00, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The birth date and age template is working just fine; I see her listed as 19. —C.Fred (talk) 03:58, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

THE FACT THAT SHE IS DATING BIEBER IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AND BELONGS HERE!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Memercury3 (talkcontribs) 23:40, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is a general consensus that JB should be added to this article. What possible reason could there be for its continued removal? Viriditas (talk) 03:05, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The romantic life of teenagers usually isn't considered important enough to add to articles. I probably wouldn't remove a brief mention myself, but many editors would.—Kww(talk) 12:16, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In general, I would agree that information on the romantic life of teenagers is to trivial to add. In this case, though, the relationship is pretty high profile and has attracted considerable press coverage.(Daily Mail, Christian Post, Daily Mail, Fox News, The Mirror, Vancouver Sun, MTV, CBS News, and hundreds more.) I think, at present, the omission is glaring. - SummerPhD (talk) 14:04, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Frankly I am not sure how it could be added without it appearing as a trivial mention in a "Personal life" section or the like. So far the relationship doesnt seem to have had an impact on the notable aspect of the person, her career.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 14:27, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's the major source of her press coverage in reliable sources. Such relationships (whether genuine or marketing driven) press her notability well beyond what it would be without it. Put actors from two shows on the same network together and it's yawn worthy. An actor from a tween/teen show with a tween/teen pop singer, though, and the press lights up, as I've noted above. Compare the sources currently in the article: one People article, an article in Oakland Tribune and a pile of mentions of "she'll be in this, that or the other thing" and "she won this, that or the other award". In terms of a biography, though, there isn't much, until we start adding The Mirror, CBS News, MTV and the like with articles about her. The shear volume of coverage in major, reliable sources makes me wonder why we wouldn't mention this. (It sure as hell isn't a privacy issue or for want of sources.) - SummerPhD (talk) 15:13, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
TriiipleThreat, I think you are using a different definition of the word "trivial" than is commonly accepted. There is nothing "trivial" about the relationship between Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, and the fact that it does not appear in this article is incredibly strange. Viriditas (talk) 23:45, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

For the BBC, being Justin Bieber's girlfriend is the only thing noteworthy about her: Justin Bieber´s girlfriend `nervous´ about show---88.73.2.147 (talk) 00:53, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That isn't how we use sources. That "source" isn't about Bieber or Gomez, it's about the MTV Europe Music Awards. If you are insinuating that we don't have good sources about their relationship, then I suggest you do some research. There is no good reason why it isn't described in this article. Viriditas (talk) 03:57, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really understand how things are added in articles that are like this one - or how this "discussion" works. But I would like to say - that Justin Beiber and Selena Gomez dating is something I would come to Wikipedia for to look up. They seem to have been dating a while, which even for young people would constitute some form of "significant other". In fact came on here just now to see if her article had anything about dating him, I was disappointed not to see anything. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.234.222.217 (talk) 11:28, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

>> To respond to 151.55.237.79 above, I agree that "usually" the personal life of a person as a teenager is not that important, but that tends to be in hindsight. The beauty of wikipedia is that each entry is a living document. A notable fact now, may merit inclusion, that later may be appropriate to take out as sum of facts about their life continue to change. The account of both Beiber and Gomez is life is far from over obviously, but their current relationship status should be included as it meets Wikipedia's definition of notability: "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Philip.Holdsworth (talkcontribs) 05:32, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should be added. The two have been dating for over 6 months and it doesn't matter that they're teenagers. A lot of articles about actors and singers include their relationships, which have started when they were in their teens (Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Nick Jonas, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas, Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner, Juliette Lewis and Brad Pitt, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, Tatum O'Neal and Michael Jackson, Brooke Shields and Mohammed Khashoggi and so on and so on). So I really do think this should be included and because we have a reliable source, I don't really see why this has to be discussed. And I do think that's important because for the last 6 months every second news article, related to one of them, is about this relationship.--Renesemee (talk) 18:13, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
this is RIDICULOUS. are people really fighting about this??? selena/justin are the BIGGEST couple right now. I think they've almost surpassed Bradgelina! even taylor swift as a tiny sentance about her FLING with John Mayor. Why is this an argument? it's definately note-worthy. --TaylorLanebore me 01:59, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kids' Choice Awards Argentina 2011

We'll need a better source: fansites are not reliable sources. —C.Fred (talk) 00:13, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, that's already in the article too. - SummerPhD (talk) 00:25, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Philanthropy

I don't think being a spokesperson for commercial organizations counts as philanthropy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.186.100.157 (talk) 20:54, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Even though Disney backs Friends for Change, I agree with classification of that as philanthropy. The other commercial organizations are in the next section down on sponsorships. —C.Fred (talk) 14:50, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life

You have mentioned in Joe Jonas page he used to date demi lovato and in Miley Cyrus page that she is dating Liam hemsworth and used to date nick Jonas Why can't you add Selena is dating Justin beiber . And that she got death threats for dating him

>> you also haven't mentioned about her stalker who is threatening her life or that she got a restraining order against him — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.68.129.195 (talk) 13:56, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Arguably, Gomez and Bieber dating is significant enough to mention in the article—and sufficiently documented in reliable sources. However, other articles exist, and just because similar details are in the articles for Lovato or Cyrus is not reason to include them in this article. There's also been significant discussion of this issue at Talk:Justin Bieber, where there has been strong opposition to mentioning it.
Regarding the stalker, again, there would have to be enough coverage in reliable sources for it to be a significant event, and it would have to be significant in the overall picture of her life. Gomez is probably neither the first nor the last celebrity to get a restraining order against a stalker. —C.Fred (talk) 14:50, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

2002 - Age 7?

2002-06 section starts by talking about her career at age 7. She was born in 1992 so something isn't adding up - is the age 7 wrong or does the header need to change to 1999? Cheers mates 97.122.103.212 (talk) 17:46, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The ref (a People timeline) says "At age 7, Gomez stars on Barney & Friends", with a 1999 next to it. On the other hand, imdb says she was on Barney in 2002. Gimmetoo (talk) 02:09, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ancestry

I found that her mother is of English (through Cornett, Harris, etc.), German (through Spangler), French (through Voirin), and Cherokee (through Brock) descent aside of Italian descent. Please, research and prove further to edit and cite the article of Selena Gomez though all of them are reliable. 112.206.171.184 (talk) 07:59, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
