A decision was made to move the previous variant of online petitions from the UK Government website to being overseen by Parliament and Government. This is in line with an historic role that petitions have traditionally taken. In use still today, there is a paper petitions bag within the House of Commons {for which purpose} |

In our first year, we've already seen petitions change Government policy and have an influence on what happens in Parliament. People who had never engaged with Parliament before are having their voices heard in Westminster. |

Origins
