Šekovići (Serbian Cyrillic: Шековићи) is a municipality and town in northeastern Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The main economc activity is logging. The land area is 195 km².
Demographics
According to the 1991 census the municipality had a population of 9,639, including:
- Serbs (94.26%)
- Muslims by nationality (Bosniaks) (3.40%)
- others (2.34%)
The town itself had a population of 4,323 with 97% Serbs and 3% others. Most of the Bosniak population lived in the villige of Papraca.
History
During the Bosnian War the area was spared major devastation, but was the site of some Serb atrocities against Bosniaks.
