Citong Township[2] is a rural township in Yunlin County, Taiwan. It has a population total of 28,939 (as of December 2017[1]) and an area of 50.8502 square kilometres.[1]

Name

Citong was named after Citong Lane (Chinese: 莿桐巷; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Chhì-tông-hāng). Before the Qing Dynasty era, Erythrina flowers (Chinese: 刺桐; pinyin: cìtóng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: chhì-tông) flourished without any population there where former people came to reclaim wasteland, choosing a small lane to establish houses for a village in which the flowers spread throughout the whole lane.
