Kyrksæterøra is the main center of the municipality of Hemne in Norway. It was known as the "white town of the Hemnefjord" at one time, because there were only white houses.

At one time, there was a shoe factory, a shipyard, a lumber mill, and fish refineries in the area. Kyrksæterøra was bombed during World War II, but no lives were lost and there was minimal damage. The Nazis also had a large prisoner-of-war camp for Russian prisoners in the area.
