Requesting help in creating a WP:Shortcut
For example, there is a talk page shortcut available WT:MOS. I am requesting help in creating similar shortcut for Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Legal.
I could see help page WP:Shortcut, but I am not confident enough. Hence requesting help in creating a shortcut WT:MOS/LEGAL for Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Legal. Bookku (talk) 05:21, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Bookku, what benefit does such a shortcut bring to either editors or readers? I use shortcuts all the time, but cannot remember a single instance in almost 14 years of editing when I used a shortcut to the WT "Wikipedia talk" namespace. Which real world users would actually use such a shortcut, and why? Cullen328 (talk) 07:37, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry I did not know there would be any policy difficulties. I requested because my own usage of Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Legal is increased. For example I always use to reach out @ WT:WIRED, I thought similar thing would be possible in this case too. Bookku (talk) 07:47, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Bookku, I am not saying that there are "policy difficulties". I am just asking about the utility of such a shortcut. Cullen328 (talk) 08:03, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Just ease of use for myself. Presently, every time I am accessing that talk page first going to WP:MoS/Legal then I access to talk page there. I think a shortcut like WT:MOS/LEGAL may make my job little simpler, the way I use for WT:WIRED or WP:DYKNOM for that matter. Bookku (talk) 08:22, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Bookku done. Creating shortcuts are cheap and unless you're worried about confusing/DAB shortcuts, I'd just create it. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:55, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

For changing a wrong information
Hello, I want to change the birth date of Pranali Rathod. Because The given date of her birth is wrong. She was born on 15th of October 1999 not 1996. She's 23 right now not 26. So how can I change it? Also I want to provide more information about her family and career which I'm not able to do. Now what can I do to do so? 103.183.69.53 (talk) 13:43, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- What you should do is to discuss your proposed changes on the article's talk page, providing references. The Times of India reference shows her celebrating what it claims was her 26th birthday last year. Maproom (talk) 14:37, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- The best course of action would be to address the matter to the article talk page. Based on a short Google search, I can see what you mean: News Unzip, CelebWale and India Forums all claim that she born in 1999, despite other sources claiming otherwise. Good afternoon. Could someone explain to me what the difference is between (example) "1929/1930" and "1929–1930"? "The progress of Udinese in the Italian football league structure since the first season of a unified Serie A (1929/30)". JackkBrown (talk) 14:02, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- "1929/1930" could be the designation of a tax year, or of a football season — something lasting for 12 months. "1929-1930" could be anything that started in 1929 and ended in 1930. Maproom (talk) 14:40, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

I have already improved the following sentence, but it is not at all easy to make it as readable as possible; could anyone help me make it as readable as possible? "Iran Khodro Tabriz: is the leading Iranian vehicle manufacturer, with headquarters in Tehran.[81] The company's original name was "Iran National". In addition to Tehran, largest car factory in Iran have 5 automobile factories throughout the Iran. Iran Khodro until 2014 produced a capacity of 520,000[82] by building 150 Samand Arisan instead of the Bardo Pick-up Paykan[83] also this Iran Khodro site produces 100 IKCO Samand per day.[84]". Suppressing ref details in the source editor
I use the source editor. When I'm copyediting, I sometimes find it difficult to pick out the actual text from among all the references. It would be easier if there were a setting for the source editor, that caused each reference to be reduced to something not much bigger than a single character. (My choice would be, to reduce each ref to a black number on a grey-red background, the number being that of the ref as seen in the reference list. But that's a detail.)
Maybe clicking on the number would expand the ref, to show it as now. Or maybe it would appear in a pop-up. Those also are details, that I have no strong view on.
Maybe this has already been implemented. It doesn't seem hard. But I've failed to find anything of the sort under Preferences and Gadgets. Maproom (talk) 19:16, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Maproom: It's been a while since I've used it, but you may want to use Cacycle's WikEd script that's available as a gadget at Preferences → Gadgets → Editing → wikEd. I remember one of the buttons compressing references into small gray REF blocks that expanded when clicked on, which may be what you're looking for. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 10:00, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, WikiEd does what you say. The button is the fifth from the right in the top row: it shows a picture of a button with an R on it. But WikiEd also does other things differently. I'll see how it goes. Maproom (talk) 13:05, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Maproom A quick-and-dirty method is to use the Preview option (toggle) to the top right within the source editor. This gives a split-screen view where the text on the right will look exactly as it would in the final article. Hence you can copy out relevant text much more easily. Screenshots for talk pages
Is it possible to upload screenshots for display in talk page discussions? It'd be useful to illustrate issues related to the visual design of pages. I've been using https://imgbb.com and external links. It'd be nice to be able to display screenshots inline though. Thanks. fgnievinski (talk) 00:03, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi fgnievinski. It would depend on the copyright status of the whatever you screenshot as explained in c:COM:SCREENSHOT. A screenshot of a copyright protected work is also protected by copyright and thus would be treated as non-free content for English Wikipedia purposes. Non-free content can only be used in the article namespace per non-free content use criterion #9, which means it can't be displayed on article talk pages (see WP:TPG#Non-free images) or user talk pages (see WP:UP#Non-free files). You can, however, link to external websites in talk page discussions as long as doing so isn't in violation of WP:COPYLINK. In other words, linking to an official website in which it's clear that the original copyright holder posted the content is generally OK; however, linking to other websites showing copyrighted content or screenshots of copyright content not posted by the original copyright holder could be consider a copyright violation and should be avoided. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:02, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Changing the layout of downloaded pages
@ MohamedRefaat999 (talk) 00:31, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- 1. What is your question?
- 2. What do you mean by "downloaded pages"? --Orange Mike | Talk 00:47, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hello How do you do
- The problem I face is the new version of downloaded pdfs from Wikipedia pages
- I think it is since january
- But i didn't notice it except for now
- The new update that you have done changed the layout and formatting of pages after being downloaded as pdfs into mobile or pc
- Unfortunately It became awful
- Hyperlinks became black instead of blue
- Pages show mobile site instead of the much-better desktop site
- In brief,it became less friendly
- I hope the old layout and formatting of downloaded pages as PDF returns again
- N.B.
- The defect is from Wikipedia websites
- Not the web browsers
- I have tried many many browsers
- Both in pc and mobile, and they gave the same result..
- Thanks in advance MohamedRefaat999 (talk) 00:53, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- If you don't get a good reply here, you can try Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:28, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- @MohamedRefaat999 The .pdf files that Wikipedia offers are now in the same format as the Vector 2022 skin, not specifically a mobile or PC view. It doesn't matter what device you use to view a page, the download from it will be the same. The most noticeable difference is that there will be no section for a table of contents and it is true that the hyperlinks are now rendered with black underlining. I think that you could revert to the previous (legacy Vector) skin using the menu you will find upper left on PC screens (leading to an option in your Special:preferences) and once using the old skin the .pdf may (I have not confirmed this) revert to the version you are more familiar with. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:19, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I have tried this option
- I reverted to the 2010 version
- But no difference happens
- Still black hyperlinks
- Still mobile view instead of desktop site
- Now i don't know what to do
- &really can't understand why Wikipedia has made such a modification regarding .PDF Files which is absolutely worse than the preceding formatting
- clearly for anyone that the current interface &layout of pdf files is much less friendly
- But what i can confirm is that this PDF modification is related to the 2022 vector skin which began on (18)january 2023
- Because i have an PDF For a page that i downloaded on(17)january2023
- and it was very good-with the old layout&formatting of blue hyperlinks
- And Also i have an PDF For a page that i downloaded on(19)january2023
- and it was very bad-with the recent layout&formatting of black hyperlinks
- (I checked both dates in my file manager so i am sure for what i am saying) MohamedRefaat999 (talk) 11:32, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

- Agha Jan Muhammad In order to do that, there must be an article about you. In order for there to be an article about you, you must receive significant coverage in independent reliable sources, showing how you meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person. You are highly advised against attempting to write an article yourself, please read the autobiography policy. My advice is that you go on about your career and not worry about Wikipedia- there are good reasons to not want to be mentioned here. If you truly meet the criteria, an independent editor will eventually take note of you in independent sources and choose to write about you. Any article about you would not be yours to exclusively control like social media. 331dot (talk) 07:43, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Italics
For Italian foods with titles that include Italian words that are not common in the English language (e.g. "Bocconcini"), do I have to write in italics also the first (or first words) of the page (those in bold) and the title? JackkBrown (talk) 11:29, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- If you're treating it as an Italian word, rather than a loanword, then, in the article text, you should enclose it in a language tag, which will do any required formatting as well. In this case, {{lang}} and {{lang-it}} give "Template:Lang-it" and "bocconcini" respectively. So that article would begin Bocconcini (Italian pronunciation: [bokkonˈtʃiːni]; singular bocconcino [bokkonˈtʃiːno], "small mouthful")... Bazza (talk) 12:03, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Approval for Draft:Greg Brockman
As an AfC reviewer, it seems abundantly clear that Draft:Greg Brockman (a draft that I created) is highly notable and relevant right now. However, I cannot directly create the page, because it must be approved by an administrator (due to previous deletions). Is there anywhere I can notify administrators of the status of the draft, as my sense is they rarely look through AfC backlog. Ajshul<talk> 16:17, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- I see there is a review waiting. If it is approved by AFC, you or the reviewer who approves it can request it be unprotected at requests for page protection. I just took a look at it, and I think that although a lot has changed since the 2016 AFD, it's a good idea given the history of the article to tread with caution.
- He's mostly notable in the context of his company, and notability is not inherited. The most recent deletion discussion included a lot of chatter about sources that were more about his company than about him, and although in your draft I see more sources that discuss him in some depth, most of them are still more about the company and its products. Given the concerns raised in the last AFD I just want to see an independent reviewer sign off before unprotecting the mainspace title so it can be moved. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 17:05, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

- Hello, Blitzfan51. English Wikipedia administrators do not have the power to block anyone on another language version. Problem
On any foreign food page that has words that are not common in the English language, italics are never present, when in fact they should be. I've done everything I can, even more (and I'm still not finished). Could someone give me a hand? It is very demotivating to work for something and find out that all the pages in this topic are wrong. JackkBrown (talk) 02:51, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi JackkBrown. Are you aware of MOS:FOREIGNITALICS? In some cases, the common practice might actually be to not italicize such words. As for asking for help, you might want to try posting something on the talk page of a relevant WikiProject like Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:00, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, JackkBrown. What procedure are you using to determine whether or not a foreign food term is
not common in the English language
? If you say that it is uncommon and I reply, yes, it is common, how would you resolve that contradiction? Who are you to determine what is right or wrong? Such decisions should be made by consensus, not by a single editor on a campaign to italicize. Cullen328 (talk) 07:16, 25 April 2023 (UTC)- For example, you have italicized capellini, a word for a style of pasta that is in commonplace usage in the English language. If you go to Google Books and search for "capellini pasta", you will find many books, including some by famous chefs writing in English, that discuss capellini without italics and without explaining that it is an Italian word. A trip to the pasta section of any American grocery store confirms the same thing. The word is now commonly used in English, and should not be italicized. Cullen328 (talk) 07:27, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Cullen328: WP:AGF. You might need to qualify your references to "English" above with "American English". "Capellini" is not in commonplace usage here. I am not disputing your argument, merely pointing out that some loanwords have not made it to into common usage in all parts of the English-speaking world.
- @JackkBrown: @Marchjuly's advice above is sensible. Bazza (talk) 09:29, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Sir Thomas Molyneux, 1st Baronet
Hi ! Thomas is said to have married first a sister of the first Earl of Wicklow. It's impossible : the firts "earl" was... a countess ! Alice (1736-1807). The second earl, Robert Howard was born in 1757, when Thomas Molyneux was born in 1661 and died in 1733. Even the first VISCOUNT of Wicklow, Ralph Howard, was born in 1727. This first wife Margaret is thus a puzzle. However, the second wife, Catherine Howard, was the aunt of the first viscount of Wicklow... Who would have relevant infos about this alleged first wife ? Thanks a lot ! Jagellon (talk) 11:07, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

- Sorry for that. I'm French, and in the french Wikipedia, this sort of question is discussed on the community pages... I've just copied my remarks on the talk page of this article, as you told me. Thank you for your answer. Jagellon (talk) 11:41, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

In the page Brighton, the current order within the first caption, in my opinion, is not good, because there is an image ("Royal Pavilion") in the middle of the other images; I don't know which order to propose. Anybody got an idea? JackkBrown (talk) 11:41, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Can I make my wikpedia user page work on all wikimedia pages??? PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 15:20, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @PaulGamerBoy360: Hello Paul! The answer is yes, however you can't do it on the English Wikipedia. To create a global userpage you have to create a userpage on Meta Wiki and it will automatically display that userpage across all other WMF managed Wikis unless a local one has already been created. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:24, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Counter-vandalism utilities
Hi all. I am just curious if there is anything out there that can help me more efficiently spot and revert vandalism on Wikipedia? I am trying to work my way towards rollbacker rights and I acknowledge that I have a long way to go, but in the meantime I am wondering if there is anything substantial or not to help me speed up the process. If my userpage topicons are any indicator most of my work is done on the recent changes page. I sort by the likely have problems, unregistered user, newcomer, human (not bot), and page edits filter, along with using the gadget(?) that allows you to view a page by hovering over its hyperlink (the older one, not the more modern one currently in use; it allows me to see diffs quickly). There have been some hiccups along the way but so far this is all how I work and it is the best option I can think of. However, with all the tools available out there created to assist in doing this more quickly and efficiently, I'm wondering if there are any recommended ones that would make my job a lot easier. I should note that I already use Twinkle and infrequently use RedWarn (I am still trying to figure out how to work with it). If there are any tools for extended-confirmed/autoconfirmed/regular editors with no rollback permissions that could speed up my process—or if there is just a better method, please let me know. - Cheers, KoolKidz112 (hit me up) 16:26, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @KoolKidz112: Welcome, and thanks for fighting vandalism. Have you seen WP:CVU and WP:CVUA? Lots of good resources and training and a way to connect to other users also interested in fighting vandalism. RudolfRed (talk) 16:46, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @RudolfRed: Thank you for the pointers! I'd no idea there was an IRC channel for that, I'll have to check it out. have been looking around on the list of academy instructors for a while now and the two that have been there for a while are unfortunately very distant from my timezone and the most manageable one there (the one in GMT) has no slots open—are there alternatives and is there a way to "subscribe" to this page so that when an instructor chooses to add themselves to the list, I am notified? I am aware of the watchlist, but I want to know if there is anything similar to the subscription feature on talk pages that can notify me directly (email, top bar notification, etc.) rather than me having to go to my watchlist first. - Cheers, KoolKidz112 (hit me up) 00:23, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Information on me on Wikipedia has been deleted by unauthorised agent
I wanted to add some information on the entry on me (Ishtiaq Ahmed political scientist with user name Billumian47) and to my very great surprise found that some unauthorised person had entered as editor and wiped out all the information on me. The entry on me is more than 20 years old and I have from time to time updated it. In Febrary 2023, someone entered as editor and has deleted all the information on me. I am greatly saddened and angry. How can you help me? Billumian47 (talk) 16:48, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- Go to page history & revert to an older version. PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 16:59, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- Per WP:COI and the article history for why the content was removed, this is bad advice. The content appears to have been removed for a valid reason, not vandalism. And editing an article about yourself is strongly advised against by the COI behavioural guideline. Sideswipe9th (talk) 17:08, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Billumian47 This edit by @TrangaBellam with an edit summary of "Not a CV" removed the information. The article up to that point was reliant on a single source (http://www.dailytimes.com.pk) for its references and did indeed look like an advert for its subject. Bazza (talk) 17:06, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- It's generally considered bad practice to directly edit an article about yourself, your family, friends, company/work, or anything else that is directly connected to you. Looking at history of the article about you, it looks like the content was removed in January 2023 with the edit summary "Not a CV". Not a CV is a valid reason to delete content, and I can see from the state of the article prior to the removal that there was a heavy reliance on sources that you had written, rather than sources other people had written about you.
- If you wish to challenge this, you should first make a comment on the article's talk page asking why the content was removed, and suggesting what content can be restored when appropriately sourced. Sideswipe9th (talk) 17:06, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) @Billumian47: The Wikipedia article Ishtiaq Ahmed (political scientist) may be an article about you, but it is not owned by you (see WP:OWN). Anyone is free to edit the article to improve it, which can include removing unreferenced information. Because of your conflict of interest, you should not be directly editing the article about you. Instead, you may submit an edit request on the article's talk page, or use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard if you like.
- You may edit other Wikipedia articles where you do not have a conflict of interest, by adding/improving information along with published reliable sources. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 17:10, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

- Hello, Billumian47. I'm afraid that you have it exactly backwards. Almost anybody in the world is "authorised" to edit Wikipedia's article about you (provided they do so in accordance with Wikipedia's policies) except you and people associated with you. You should not edit the article directly, but should confine yourself to making edit requests. ColinFine (talk) 22:56, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- But I mean, jeepers creepers, the article has been there since 2006, and has had at least some of this info since then... stable version, much? WP:BRD is very much in play here. Revert, and technically its up to User:TrangaBellam to make their case on the talk page, but,User:Billumian47, you could do this yourself. Revert, and open a thread on the talk page with a short neutral statement to the effect of "An editor has deleted a lot of info with this edit, and I don't agree, so let them make their case here ad see how it goes" (As the subject, you pretty much ought to not participate).
- On the merits, well.... "not a CV" is news to me (I suppose there's a rule about it somewhere, but so what). What the heck else is an article on an academic supposed to have? I've written a couple-few articles on academics (nobody I know, they just came across my desk) and I mean they're pretty much "She went to school here, she taught this there, she wrote that, she got this award, and here's some of her stuff". If she was a baseball player I'd describe her teams and batting average instead, and so forth. Right? I mean, this is what we do here, kind of?
- And its straightforward. It's not like it says "he wrote this excellent book" and so forth.
- As far as references, I believe that, at least for writings, the work itself is the reference. This goes for books and records I think but maybe not for hard-to-get articles etc. In that case, ref it, and if you don't have time, tag.
- You could trim it some maybe, or rewrite it, and work that out on the talk page. I can see the point that the subject himself shouldn't participate in that, altho I guess you can't stop him. And if the subject overall is not notable, then WP:AFD is where you want to go. But assuming the article should exist, I would suppose a reader -- who, after all, has searched for this precise article, for info on this precise person -- might be interested in some of this info? Some readers anyway (nobody is required to read the whole article)? And the articles not to long. So why delete info that we already have? WP:BRD and talk. New article about Artificial Intelligence
Hello, Im a designer with 30+ years in the industry. I want to write an article about the history of my start up that I was fortunate to found in 1994, Creativa World Communications, being the first interactive advertising firms in Central America. Some of the earliest known interactive design companies include R/GA, which was founded in New York City in 1977 and initially focused on motion graphics and special effects for film and television, but later expanded into digital and interactive design; and Razorfish, which was founded in New York City in 1995 and was one of the first companies to specialise in website design and development. Also Organic, which was founded in 1993 in San Francisco and was one of the first companies to offer web design services; and Agency.com, which was founded in 1995 in New York City and focused on developing interactive marketing campaigns for clients. Between 2020 and 2021 became the worlds first AI-powered Multidisciplinary Design Company. I want to be able to claim this through the article not because of my ego, but more because has been a difficult journey to get to this point and I don't want others to take the credit for it.Design is everything to me. I want to know if there's somebody that could help me writing this article in a way that would be accepted by Wikipedia.
Thank you very much! haimeluna (aris) Arisluna (talk) 20:08, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Arisluna: Hi there! Creating a new Wikipedia article can be challenging, especially when you have a conflict of interest (COI). To learn how to edit, I suggest you start at Help:Introduction. I suggest spending a significant amount of time editing existing articles to hone your skills. Once you're ready to create an article, you would gather multiple independent reliable sources that have provided significant coverage of the company, and determine whether it meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". If so, you must declare your COI on your user page. Then you could follow the instructions at Help:Your first article, and be prepared for a process that will include waiting for review, rejections, and rewrites before an article is created. If you are successful, then you could never edit the article directly due to your COI, but could submit edit requests on the article talk page. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:20, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I guess it's going be very difficult that my claim will be accepted because of the COI . Arisluna (talk) 21:06, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Arisluna: It is a very difficult process when people write about their first hand experience with a company, and then struggle to find independent reliable sources for what they've written (see WP:BACKWARD). If you throw out everything you know and just paraphrase what the independent reliable sources state, you have a chance. GoingBatty (talk) 02:06, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I guess it's going be very difficult that my claim will be accepted because of the COI . Arisluna (talk) 21:06, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Arisluna Thank you for your inquiry. Writing a new article from scratch is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia, and I do not recommend that anyone start with that. Writing about a subject where you have a substatial conflict of interest, such as an article about yourself or your company, is strongly discouraged by our content guidelines. I also do not recommend paying someone to write the article for you, as most of the companies that claim to provide such services are scams, and even those that are not have a lot of hoops to jump through.
- All of that said, the guidelines for what kinds of companies can have Wikipedia articles are spelled out here. The key is to have 3-5 reliable sources that were not produced by or in collaboration with the company, and that cover the company in some detail. If you can find 3-5 such sources, I suggest you add the company, along with links or citation information for the sources, to Wikipedia:Requested articles/Business and economics and wait to see if a volunteer comes along who is interested in writing the article. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 20:23, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Incorrect usage of "America"
Sirs - The United States of America is actually "The United States", NOT "America". - "America" refers to either North America (Mexico, USA or Canada) or South America (including all of the countries which lie below a specific boundary separating North and South. - Mexico, nor any other country, would refer to itself as Mexico of America, or simply America. - Ditto Canada. They are either Mexico or Canada. - Why should the country in the middle of North America call itself "America" or call themselves "Americans" Everyone in North America and South America are "Americans" but they correctly identify themselves simply with the country's name.
Why do Americans who happen to live in the USA name themselves "Americans".
ALL OF US WHO LIVE IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE ARE AMERICANS! SURPRISE. 2604:3D08:5688:E000:AC27:FB9F:B193:C744 (talk) 01:27, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- See American (word). The common consensus on Wikipedia is that American, unless otherwise specified, usually refers to the United States or something relating to it. At this point, any attempt to change such will likely be quickly shut down per Wikipedia's Snowball clause. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 01:35, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Wikipedia uses words as they are used in our sources. When our sources use "America" to refer to the USA, we do the same. Wikipedia is not the place to "correct" your perceived misuse of "America". See WP:RGW. -Arch dude (talk) 03:18, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- So, re "Why do Americans who happen to live in the USA name themselves Americans", as you say, they do is all; we follow the herd, and when that changes we will. Besides, there's no good demonym or adjective for United States, as there is for Brazilian or Canadian or Honduran etc. "United Statesian" doesn't roll off the tongue. - Wikipedia is not the place to right great wrongs. The vast majority of the English language usage of the word "American" since 1789 refers to things related to the United States. English term for bread baking failure?
As seen in File:Zakalec w babce cytrynowej.jpg. Polish word is "zakalec" but I am not sure what the English word is? I'd like to add this image to the right Commons category, if one exists. - This reminds me that I had a friend in high school in Detroit who was born in Hamtramck, Michigan to Polish immigrant parents. He claimed to be fully fluent in Polish and challenged me to refute his language skills. I asked him what the Polish word for towel was, and he replied, "I don't know". At least he was kind enough to bring back an East German Praktica 35 mm camera for me on his summer trip to Poland. I think I paid him $50, which was a lot of money in the late 1960s. - Three of my dictionaries define zakalec (noun), zakalcowaty (adjective):
- 1. zakalec: "a doughy part (of badly baked pastry)". "zakalcowaty: doughy"
- 2. zakalec: "slack-baked bread (or cake)". "zakalcowaty: slack-baked; doughy; sodden; sad"
- 3. zakalec: "miejsce w cieście nie dopieczone" ["an incompletely baked place in the dough"], "nie wyrośnięte" ["unrisen"]: "babka z zakalcem". "zakalcowaty: mający zakalce: zakalcowaty placek."
- The Polish expressions seem to describe a half-baked part of a baked good.
- The Polish Wikipedia article on "zakalec" (pl:zakalec) lists 10 hypotheses concerning possible causes of the phenomenon.
- If no succinct English term for this phenomenon can be found, this may be a case where the Polish language has achieved an advantage over the English language.
- Nihil novi (talk) 08:48, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Four use the spelling "Rohitash Gaud", fourteen do not mention him, and one gives a 404 message. So unless much sourcing can be found, the title of the article should stay as it is. - Rohitashvgour Are you Mr. Gour? If not, why are you using his name as your username? As you have been told, what matters here is how independent reliable sources spell his name. If they have it wrong, this individual needs to contact them to get them to issue corrections. 331dot (talk) 13:05, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, this is Mr. Gour. I want to get this corrected. Rohitashvgour (talk) 14:08, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Rohitashvgour: Wikipedia reports what the reliable sources say. You cannot correct this in Wikipedia even if you are the subject and you know that the sources are incorrect. You must contact the sources and have them issue corrections. Sources directly related to the subject (instagram and facebook) do not count, but if other independent sources use a different name, we can at least indicate that both names are in use in reliable sources. Note that we do not have a paid staff that can verify that you are who you say you are and we have no desire or resources to implement such a mechanism. For all we know you could be an enemy of the subject trying to inject false information. Reliable sources have editorial mechanisms to verify their information, and their articles are published under the bylines of the reporters. -Arch dude (talk) 14:42, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Rohitashvgour: Because you have a conflict of interest, you should not be editing the Wikipedia article about yourself. Instead, you should declare your conflict on your user page. You may also submit edit requests on the article's talk page Talk:Rohitash Gaud or use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:59, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Publication
good morinng sir.... how can see what publication in wikipedia Likpata95 (talk) 08:45, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Likpata95 Hello. I'm not clear on what it is you are asking. 331dot (talk) 08:47, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- The navigation page Wikipedia:Contents/Portals may be what you are looking for. (It's linked on the Main Page.) {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.213.18.208 (talk) 02:14, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
I can know the size of the document
If I use REVISIONSIZE in the document, I can know the size of the document, but can I know the size of other documents in the frame? 222.117.225.233 (talk) 11:14, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- This is incoherent. 331dot (talk) 11:15, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
{{REVISIONSIZE}}
is a magic word. It does not allow a parameter for another page. You can only get the size of the page itself. Magic words have parameters after a colon so if another page was allowed then the syntax would have been{{REVISIONSIZE:Example}}
but it produces Template:REVISIONSIZE:Example which doesn't work. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:29, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Uploading a Page from Sandbox
Hi, I am a new user.
I would like to know how can I publish a new page (about a medical person) and post it as an Wikipedia page.
I have a draft of it in my sandbox.
Thanks a lot!
Bnaya. BnayaMeir (talk) 12:11, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- BnayaMeir You have no edits to a sandbox. If you have not yet clicked "publish changes", that simply means "save", it does not mean "publish this to the encyclopedia". New accounts cannot directly create articles(the preferred term, not the broader "page") and need to use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft. 331dot (talk) 12:16, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- No, BnayaMeir, User:BnayaMeir/sandbox is empty, and indeed your question above is the only edit you have ever made. The way to publish a new page starts with getting practice improving existing pages. -- Hoary (talk) 12:20, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @BnayaMeir: I can see you have been working on a page at User:BnayaMeir/sandbox but you have to click "Publish page" to save the draft. If you make changes later then it becomes "Publish changes". Both terms just mean that the saved edits are visible to others, not that they become part of the encyclopedia. Post again here when you have saved it so we can see what you have and give advice on the next step. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:15, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Also, if you have a personal or professional relationship with this person, please review WP:COI. You can still submit the draft for review once it's done, we just ask that folks be upfront about any potential conflicts of interest. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:19, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Preferred method to attract editor eyes after one has fixed a source flagged as "Unverified"?
Greetings. The article in question is The Everly Brothers#1960s–1970s more specifically the last graf.
I have removed the Rolling Stone URL and placed a new one from [Time (magazine)] which should resolve the issue I believe.
I tried reading the article on [Wikipedia:Verifiability] but couldn't locate any material within it detailing what one should do to get a new source reviewed to see if it passes muster to remove the flag.GBrady (talk) 12:33, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- GBrady the flag referred to the Rolling Stone citation. If you remove the citation, you should remove the flag. TSventon (talk) 12:54, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @GBrady: Fixed GoingBatty (talk) 14:53, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- In most cases, there is no requirement to get an edit reviewed. If you are concerned, then ask at a relevant WikiProject (see the article's talk page for which WikiProjects have been linked). But in general, editing works according to WP:BRD: if nobody reverts your edit, it has been accepted (insofar as that means anything). Of course, another editor may come along in months or years and disagree, and revert or otherwise alter your edit. ColinFine (talk) 13:45, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Way to detect what skin a visitor is using
Hi all. I hope this question has not been asked too many times before. My user page uses the File:Bathrobecabalicon.png image on the top left of the page (just for a bit of fun, obviously). However, this only really works on the MonoBook skin, which is the one I use. On other skins, it either looks off, is wrong, or doesn't appear at all. With the recent switchover to the new Vector 2022 skin, I am wondering if there is a way to perhaps change the position of the image or hide it if the user is using a skin other than MonoBook? Any help is appreciated. If the effect/element is not allowed in userpages for whatever reason please notify me and you are free to go ahead and remove it from my userpage. - Cheers, KoolKidz112 (hit me up) 14:50, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Template for article written in other language?
While using "Random Article" to check for unmarked stubs, I came across the article Oulad Ayad, which has a significant portion of it written in Spanish. Is there a template to mark things like this? TypoEater (talk) 15:15, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Help category
At Template:Admin dashboard there is a category on the upper right called "Wikipedians looking for help"; one request is outstanding, and it is apparently related to User talk:Chrisdevelop/sandbox. Because the user is receiving help, I've tried to clear the category in a few different ways. None worked, so I reverted all my attempts. What am I doing wrong?--Bbb23 (talk) 15:36, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- It was the subcategory itself which was counted as 1, not its member. Fixed by [4]. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:24, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Yearbook pic
I want to add a scanned photo of a High School Yearbook photo for an individual with a Wikipedia article that has no photo of him. There is no copyright and the photo/scan is of good quality. Is there a way to do this? Freeman24601 (talk) 16:38, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- It may be copyrighted. What year? What country? Is there no copyright notice anywhere in the book? --Orange Mike | Talk 16:51, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) @Freeman24601: Basically anything that is published is copyrighted by default: no notice is needed. Unless there is a written notification that the copyright has been released or the item's copyright is licensed under a suitable copyright license, we cannot use it. (There are exceptions, but probably do not apply here.) -Arch dude (talk) 16:53, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Guidance on handling Rebranding of Offensive Security to OffSec?
- Some time around March 1, 2023 a rebrand was announced.[5][6]
- An editor (with relatively few edits Special:Contributions/Gt6336) changed the Offensive Security article on March 5, 2023, and moved it to OffSec and changed it a little more on March 27.[7]. Similar, with fewer editorial changes, was done at OffSec_Certified_Professional, formerly Offensive Security Certified Professional.
- I am not sure if this is is best described as Rebranding#Corporate_rebranding or Rebranding#Small_business_rebranding, but should it follow the example of Altria where the rebranding is covered in the article, or should it be a simple name substitution as done by Gt6336?
- An example of concern in OffSec is the change to say: In 2019, J.M. Porup of CSO online wrote "few infosec certifications have developed the prestige in recent years of the OffSec Certified Professional (OSCP)," because the citation actually says "Offensive Security" not Offsec, so the quotation longer matches the source.
- Note: Related articles Kali_Linux and Kali_NetHunter have not yet been changed to reflect the rebrand.
- Note2: This has not been discussed on the articles' Talk pages. A COI notification by another editor, and claim of non-COI is at User_talk:Gt6336.
- I feel the edits at OffSec and OffSec_Certified_Professional should be mostly undone and the rebrand should be handled differently, but would feel better having independent confirmation first. Thanks. -- Yae4 (talk) 16:48, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Yae4: Hi there! The best place to have these discussions would be the article's talk pages. I suggest one central location on the talk page where it makes sense, and then posts on the other talk pages directing editors to the central discussion. GoingBatty (talk) 18:48, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Vandalism help request from 2600:6C64:7800:3F34:18AF:C18:E9AE:9F06
I have noticed some vandalism at Jacqueline d'Escoman.https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacqueline_d%27Escoman Namely, the French page has random and inappropriate place of birth, place of death, and activity. The correct details are Orphin (birth), Paris (death), paid companion/lady-in-waiting (activity). Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, 2600:6C64:7800:3F34:18AF:C18:E9AE:9F06 (talk) 18:51, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- The wrong info was actually coming from Wikidata ([8]). I've restored the good version, but I don't know how long it will take the change to propagate. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 19:48, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Link a name
On the page - Material requirements planning - Oliver Wight is attributed as founding MRP II, but there is no page linked to who he was. How can a page be established to outline who Oliver Wight was? ALSO, he was the originator of Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) - but is not mentioned on Sales and operations planning - Wikipedia
He is a hero of business planning. LGOWA (talk) 18:53, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @LGOWA, if you can find a reliable source which backs up your statement, feel free to add such a statement to Sales and operations planning. I'd recommend reading Help:Your first article very carefully to get an idea of Wikipedia's requirements as far as article creation goes. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 19:36, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

In the "Specifications" paragraph of the "Antonov An-225 Mriya" page I wanted to remove the bold from the colon (because it is not correct), but, unfortunately, I am not allowed to do so; I tried both in visual and non-visual mode, but it's not possible to make the change. Corrections
The Nation was fed a bunch of lies regarding COVID, and this website was labeling other information as "Disinformation" based on those lies. Please go back and correct pages that list information as "Disinformation". We have now learn that 98% of what the government told us was ALL LIES!! Further, any pages with government-fed information must be label as Non-evidence information. Lies from Intel agencies are NOT evidence or factual. By their nature, it is all false or intentionally misleading. 96.8.169.175 (talk) 01:55, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
